March 8, 2008--A Dreamer

I laid my book down on my bed and wandered over to the window. Outside, the sky was blue-grey and promising rain. I sighed longingly as I looked up at the clouds, hoping to catch a glance of the thing I wanted most.

All my life, I've been in love with unisi, horses, dragons, and gryphons. I still am. From a very early age, I would draw ponies and pegasi in my schoolbooks, a habit which never really went away. My notebooks and every scrap of paper in my vicinity still vibrate with the beautiful creatures, even in today, in high school. All my favorite books had horses or unisi, oftentimes both. My parents called me "The Unicorn Girl."

There are two passions I've had my entire life--Unisi, and writing. The Unicorn has always been a symbol of my dreams, hopes, and aspirations. My many attempts at stories have always been riddled with the hoofbeats of the unicorn, whinnies of the horse, and free spirit of the pegasus ruling the sky.

Today, I spent a full hour staring out the window. I have heard stories of unisi that can sometimes be spotted in the air, or running far in the distance. I hoped to catch a glimpse--just a fleeting glimpse--of one of those beauties, the epitome of perfection. But all that greeted my weary eyes was a sparrow, who watched me with his beady little black eyes, then fluttered away.

My current novel has launched into a world of unisi, for I can think of no other thing. I find myself miserable, day after day disappointed that I have not seen even the slightest flash on a unicorn's horn. Someday, though, I am fair certain that I will meet my soul in the unisus who will complete me.

March 9, 2008—Identity

I’m an aspiring writer. All my life, I’ve loved to write, to create worlds of my own and place characters within them. The world I live in hardly exists to me, for my dreams and fantasies are so strong.

Even greater than this passion, though, is my love for the Unisus. I have always wished unisi existed, which is one reason I dwell in Fantasy. My fantasies are filled with the beautiful, free-flying creatures. I love the night, for it is then that I can pretend that the shadows and shapes in the dark are my unicorn and pegasus friends. In the bright light of the day, these dreams are dispelled and I return to my saddened, lonely state.

I believe there is a unisus meant for me, my other half. She flies through my dreams at night, whinnying to me. Always, though, I am bound to the ground, unable to fly free and meet my darling. When I awake, I cannot remember what she was like, only her presence. I have never seen her in this world, but I continue to hope.

March 10, 2008—Beyond this Earth

They say that, if you close your eyes and keep your mind wide open, you can see worlds beyond the one you live in. Perhaps one day, I will be able to look beyond the polluted skies of this earth and see the blue, clear skies where unisi fly free and undisturbed. Perhaps I will be able to see the good that shines out unsullied from under the evils of this world.

Many friends do not believe in the unisi who grace my dreams at night. They tell me to give up the dream, that it is not worth it. The same people claim that I will never get anywhere with writing, so I refuse to take such counsel.

At the same time, I have met some very good friends as a result of this desire to see the unisi. Some say they have seen the elusive unisus, others are hoping the same as I do. This common dream has knit our souls together, a bond I pray will never break.

March 11, 2008—Glimmer of Hope

Today I saw a cloud in the shape of a horse. Though it had no horn or wings, it still called to mind my unisus…I could almost hear it speaking to me, telling me not to give up, to keep watching. Perhaps the time draws near when I will finally sight a unisus.

Every time I watch a horse gallop across the plains, I picture it with wings and a horn, and I wonder what it would be like as a unisus. Sometimes I wonder if anyone else in my family believes in horses that fly and have horns…

Even despite the flickers of hope that glide across my life now and then, I also have times of doubt and fear. I wonder sometimes…and I am afraid that maybe I will never be able to meet the unisus whose existence I have clung to in all my darkest hours. It is in these times that I most envy those who have already met with their unisi…

I often run out to the woodlands, where I can be alone, to think. Do unisi ever dream of humans who are meant to roam free with them? Is the longing mutual? Many laugh at this thought, but I believe that the winged creatures are as fully intelligent, aware, and plagued by emotion as I am.

March 12, 2008—Shimmering Dreams

Every time I look at the sky, I can almost see a shimmer of something in the sky. I know not whether it is my imagination or if I am really beginning to see glimpses of the unisi. Perhaps my eyes are opening to the world of unisi, perhaps not.

A dream is such a wonderful thing. It is often the only thing that keeps me going, that holds onto my hand when I would let go. I thank my dreams for the times they have pulled me through, and I would like to pay them back, to aid the unisi of my dreams in their own peril. For, though I would rather I lived in their fantasy-like world, I know that there is no world that is not fraught with danger. Perhaps with the combined strengths of the human and the unisus, a world can become a safe and better place.

March 13, 2008—Soul-Creature

True love justifies anything. This I believe firmly. Everyone has five people truly destined for him or her. One is the person’s soul-mate, or lover, the one who will take the person’s heart away and love the person with the passion reserved for those in love. The second is the person’s soul-sister or soul-brother, more commonly the “best friend.” One’s soul-sibling is like a same-gender version of the soul-mate.

The third is the mentor, the one who will guide a person through life, helping him or her make wise choices and teach the person what needs to be learned. Accordingly, the fourth is the younger student, who the person will be a mentor and often second parent to.

The fifth, I believe, is the sister-creature, or the brother-creature. I think that each person has an animal bound to him or her through destiny. It could be a dog, cat, dragon, gryphon, unisus, voronwe, soquili, or anything. I believe my sister-creature is a unisus, which is why I have always been drawn to the unisi.

March 14, 2008—Pony Child

I remember once, when I was five years old, my mother told me she had once seen Pegasus. I cried bitterly, unable to accept that she had seen a unisus and I had not. She, who mocked my devout belief in the beautiful creatures and told me to keep my feet on the ground and my head out of the clouds. I soon found out that it had been a mere made-up bedtime story.

Still, I have never forgotten that night, for it was then that I first began to garner the hope that perhaps, someday, I would see and meet a unisus who would be my friend, one of the closest to my soul. I had already been pony mad since the age of two, but now my horsecrazy spirit really took wing.

I began collecting anything, everything, that had to do with the unisi I loved. I gathered picture books, plushies, toys, all with unisi or at least horses. As I grew older and had more money in my pocket, I began purchasing pieces of art, posters, and novels that carried into the worlds where winged horses and unicorns roamed free.

At age nine, I wrote a poem about a unicorn. That started me on writing. Every passion I have experienced in my short fifteen years so far has stemmed from my ongoing love for the unisus. I have devoted my life to the hope of meeting, preserving, and watching the elusive unisus.

March 15, 2008—Special Creatures

Today, I was watching a neighbor’s dog run around, wildly barking and having a good time. I wondered…why is it that there is such a lovely form of horse, the unisus, and yet apparently none for any other animal. I wonder why there is no “unidog,” or a guinea pig with wings…It is a rather funny thought.

Sometimes I believe the horse has been blessed, and that is why the unisus exists. Other times, I consider what truth there is in the theory that the unicorn, unisus, and pegasus are simply their own individual species of animals, that only happen to resemble horses. But one fact truly rejects this theory; that the unisus, unicorn, pegasus, and horse can interbreed. By definition, separate species are unable to interbreed…

Well, whatever the reason, I know my heart is drawn to the unisus. It does not matter whether or not it is a special creature, but it is the creature of my dreams.

March 16, 2008—Many Companions

When I think of how many more animals there are than humans, I wonder if perhaps we have multiple soul-creatures. I have found myself attached to many animals in my short fifteen years so far.

There is such a huge variety of animals! It fills me with joy when I watch horses gallop across the plains, guinea pigs squeaking and eating, or dogs howling for attention. I wish I could have a special bond with each and every one, for I fear that some are alone in life. My hope is to bring a deep friendship and closeness into the life of every animal I meet, and to cultivate friendships with others who do the same.

As I look around, I find that many other people also love the fantastic beauty of the unisus. I have begun to pursue friendships with such people, and hope that we can form a tight, close friendship…
