User ImageKanoa watched her reflection in the shallows of a lake, letting her thoughts wander. She had found in the past week that there was more sadness and despair in the world than she had ever realized before. The filly had matured, both physically, into a lovely little yearling, though small for her age, and emotionally, growing to understand that life wasn't all happy. Sadly, she watched the clouds reflected in the rippling water, wondering if there would ever be someone out there for her, a love, or maybe just a truly close friend...

Fane galloped in the warm, summer's sun; the light highlighting his golden markings and making them gleam and shimmer. He was filled with joy; the sun was warm on his dark fur, his sisters were off flying with their father, and he was alone for now. A rare moment of peace; he treasured them, but knew that he'd miss his family were they away for too long.
He neared the lake and let out a whinney; the yearling's dark fur absorbed the heat from the sun, and maybe a cold dip was just what he needed. He galloped into the shallows, unaware of how like his boisterous, energetic father he was at that moment. Happy, he splashed and jumped; soaking his legs until his brown fur was black and his gold markings shone dark and vivid.

He was often a moody little yearling; depressed by his lack of wings, but today... Today it was him and the world; and his siblings never ran like he did. They never appreciated it like he did, they were so in love with the sky. But here he was; alone, happy, and appreciative of the ache in his legs and the water around his hooves.
He had simply never felt so... Free.

((Hey Fal, what do you think about another RP, with Fane and Kynan? Since they're both unicorns and all...I'm thinking "Earthbound" for the title--what do you think?))

User ImageThe sound of splashing startled Kanoa, who snapped out of her world of reflections, now distorted by strong ripples, to see a unicorn colt a little older than her, playing in the shallows. He was a really handsome yearling, dark brown with the most beautiful gold markings. The fact that he was a unicorn reminded her painfully of Kynan.

Silently, she watched the way he splashed contentedly, appearing not to notice her. Did he ever wish he could fly, like Kynan and Via did? Shy, she hung back, half hoping he would notice her, half considering simply disappearing quietly into the surrounding landscape...Starting to back away with her forelegs, yet with her hind legs still planted in indecision, she got tangled with herself, teetered, and fell with a splash.

((Could do. ;3))

The huge splash startled Fane from his own world with a jolt; the unicorn leapt backwards away from the noise and froze, half his tail plastered to his legs, his eyes slightly narrowed.
Seeing the female unisus, he half-contemplated running away. He had been so happy playing alone, he had felt so free! Why, why did this female, younger than him, have to come and disturb him?
But his father had raised him too well for him to ever say such things; to hurt another was a weak way to deal with one's own emotions, it had been taught him in so many different ways. He sighed; planning to end the meeting as quickly- and as politely- as possible.
"Are you okay?" He didn't move; but looked over at the white and blue female.

User ImageKanoa stood hastily, blinking back tears of frustration and embarrassment. "Yes, I'm fine," she assured him quietly. Noticing the colt was a little edgy, she said quickly, "I'm sorry, did I disturb you?" She felt horrible, wished herself a mile away.

Well, the female was polite at least. He blinked; unsure of what to say. His father preached honesty- but also, consideration of other's feelings. Was it even possible to do both? Fane thought about it before responding.
"Uhm. Sort of, but I wasn't doing anything... You know. Big or important or anything. So it's okay." He flicked his mane out of his face; there, he'd done it. Honesty and consideration! His eyes shone and he beamed; his father would be so proud of him if he were here!

User ImageKanoa tilted her head slightly, confused. "I'm sorry, but what were you doing?" Her feelings of humiliation evaporated in curiosity, before she remembered her manners. "Should--would it be better if I left?" she asked softly, feeling quite awkward. The colt seemed so pleased with something--she wondered what.

((K, here, I guess she was so embarrassed she stayed away from him for a long time.... User Image))

User ImageKanoa glanced around as she emerged timidly from the trees. Satisfied that no one was around, she picked a few daffodils that grew along the lake. They would make a nice gift when she went to visit Mother.

Ever since her awkward meeting with a handsome unicorn here, she'd become nervous around the place. The shy little unisus had a painfully good memory for embarrassing moments.

Her small hooves barely left a mark in the soft mud as she went about choosing the nicest flowers she could find. Kanoa had always been small for her age, and even now, fully grown, she was tiny and had grown slender and faerielike, the white of her body milky and soft. She still had no idea how beautiful she was.

With a little squeal of delight, she spotted a little sliver of blue among the yellow. The first forget-me-not buds of the season! Gently, she blew on them so that they opened ever so slightly, revealing the gorgeous color inside, just for a moment. She sighed happily

Fane was headed for his usual haunt- the lake. His family rarely went there, which was why he did- he loved them dearly, but as an adult stallion, he desperately needed his own space. His sisters loved to spend time as a family; although his more cheerful sister, Shaolin, often irritated Jazmeena with her almost permanently bright mood and optimistic view. His father always laughed it off; but Jazmeena was so passionate, when something was wrong she wanted the world to cry or rage with her, just as she made damned sure the world laughed when she was happy.

Fane smiled; so lost in thought about his family as he wandered to the lake's edge. They'd both make wonderful mates for the right stallions; neither was weak by any means, but their strength showed in such different ways. He let out a quiet chuckle as he bent to drink, his front hooves in the water; they were a real handful. Hopefully one of them would start a family soon; he'd had no luck finding someone for himself, so he'd settle for being the eccentric uncle.

User ImageA soft footstep met her ears, and the little mare was quickly alert. Raising her head from the blue flowers, she glanced around for the source of the noise.

To her immense surprise and panic, there walked the very dark unicorn she'd made a fool of herself in front of. What if he recognized her? Did he remember what a klutz she'd been?

Dismayed, she realized she stood out clearly among the yellow daffodils, just like the forget-me-nots. If she moved she'd be spotted, is she stayed she'd be spotted. Feeling small, she watched the stallion come closer, so far oblivious of her presence.

Fane was far from noticing the female who stood so still to avoid his notice. He had taken her presence in- but his conscious mind was so firmly fixed on his family, he hadn't attended to the fact that he wasn't entirely alone. He would surely have gone to say hello, otherwise.

After quenching his thirst, he stepped deeper into the lake until it covered most of his body. He bent his head and soaked his mane; rubbing his horn along his flanks and swishing his tail through the water to clean himself of the sweat and dirt he tended to gather as he ran and played. His mind was still on his family.

He tended to meet more unisus than his sisters; there was a pegasus he'd met here, perhaps he should introduce him to one of them. Jazmeena, probably; the pegasus had been boisterous, and would be best suited to her passion. But then again, they might not appreciate his trying to set them up... But he knew they craved other male company, especially Shaolin. His mind roamed over the best course of action as he cleaned himself and his body savoured the cool water on the hot day.

((Oh, Fal, if I happen to rudely disappear, it'll be because either I was dragged downstairs for lunch or someone came in and I had to close the window. User Image))

User ImageKanoa breathed a tiny sigh of relief as the stallion passed her by. She hadn't been around a male since Grim, who'd frightened her and whom she hadn't seen for ages.

((Sorry, gtg now. crying ))

((I'm back!))

As a yearling she'd been infatuated with her best friend's foster brother, Kynan. Later on Grim came along... He was polite and kind to her, but somehow he made her uneasy and nervous. Over time, she had become extremely wary around males.

Quietly, she slipped away through the flowers, towards the safety of the trees.

The movement did pull Fane from his reverie; and his first thought was how nice it would be to have company. He took a step in the direction of the movement; but as he saw the female moving away from him, his tail and ears drooped. Ohh... Not company. He sighed, blowing his wet mane away from his nose. Looked like he'd be alone with his thoughts today. Not that his thoughts were bad; but company was much better. As long as it was willing company.

User ImageKanoa, who'd been watching the stallion from the corner of her eye, stopped short when he suddenly drooped, like a wilted flower. Had she done something wrong? Why was he suddenly upset?

Though she had yet to have foals, her motherly instinct had already begun to surface. She turned back towards the stallion. “Is something wrong?”

((Short and horrible... crying I blame my brother. User Image))
