((Um, Fal, could I buddy you?))
Kynan watched sadly as several pegasi flew through the sky up above. He would love to be able to fly like them, unbound by the earth, free to go where he wished...All of his friends were blessed with wings...If only he at least had someone to spend the long days with, when all the unisi and pegasi were off exploring where he could never go...

((When I know you better. ;3 Sorry my reply is short and iffy- I just lost the entire post. ;_ wink )
Fane was mooching through the long grasses at the edges of the plain; lost in his own thoughts. His moods changed quickly, when there was something or someone to change it or distract him. But right now, he was stuck in his own mind, his moodiness pretty much taking over. When he had been younger, when his sisters went flying his father would spend the time with him, just the two of them. But more often than not, Fane snuck away in the mornings. He knew his father missed his company; but he also knew his father respected his wishes for privacy and independance. Somehow, it made the fact that he spent as much time as he did sulking, worse.

(Okay. Just thought I'd ask. sweatdrop As for your post, I like it. ))
Kynan looked around his surroundings, hoping to see someone his age nearby, but all around, he could see nothing but adults grazing. Several of his winged friends had taken off again, leaving him alone with his thoughts and nightmares... He knew nothing was likely to happen with so many full-grown unisi around, but he wished he had friends with him when his dark past cropped up again.
((Ack, this one didn't turn out well...
It's about time Kynan makes a friend his own gender. blaugh ))

Kynan woke up cold and sweating, nightmares shattering in the morning light. Though his dreams were no longer filled with acute terror, he still had long, dark encounters with his father, lost in his subconscious. The beautiful unisus who had sired him never touched him in these dreams...he just seemed listless, sad and yet menacing.
It was like a dull ache, rather than a stab of pain, and he hated it. He could no longer sleep well at night, for the uneasy presence. Shaking, he stood and walked slowly over to the nearby small lake.
The cold water helped dispel the last fragments of the nightmare, and the young unicorn slipped further into the water, submerging completely. Bright rays of sunlight pierced through the moving water, soothing him. Forcing the past into a tiny space of his mind, he drifted upwards for a breath, letting the warm sun heal his wounds once again.

Fane loved the lakeside. He had often imagined how the lakes of the land must look from the air; like shimmering jewels, winking in the sun as they rippled. He knew he could, and would, never see that; but he could see the way the tiniest movements in the water reflected the sunlight, causing a brilliant dancing of light. Perhaps they couldn't see this from the air; perhaps they couldn't appreciate it. He stepped to the water, his golden hooves shining back the sun just as the water over them did. His golden eyes, though there was nobody to see them, were similar; filled with life and joy.
Suddenly, overwhelmed by energy and a lust for life, the slender unicorn reared up; his dark mane flying back, with his braids falling against his face. His hooves threw up an arcing fountain of water, which split the light and caused a shimmying rainbow for just a moment. He let out a whinney and fell back to his forelegs; kicking his hind legs out and causing a huge spray as his hooves splashed at the shallow water.
As soon as his hooves hit the lake bed, his tail high, Fane was off; galloping through the shallow water, kicking and rearing from time to time just to expend energy and feel his body move. Water sat on his dark fur and shone like the golden spots circling his legs; he threw his horn in the air, caught up in the moment and in just... Living.

Before he broke the surface, Kynan felt a tremor of hoofbeats through the water, and a disturbance in the quiet, still lake. Startled, he raised his head out of the water to see another unicorn galloping away through the shallows, splashing as he went.
Unwilling to disturb the elated creature, he stayed where he was, swimming in little circles and watching as brightly colored fish darted in and out of the agitated sphere of water. He had such a terrible tendency to be moody and quiet...ruining others moods. Looking up again, he watched the young stallion rear and buck happily, and sighed.
((Sorry, this is a terrible post... crying ))

Finally, Fane's burst of energy faded and he slowed; then stopped to bend his head to the water and take a couple of mouthfuls. He felts elated; like he was glowing with life. He smirked; what a silly way to imagine it!
He blinked as he raised his head- was that...? Good grief, there was a unicorn swimming in the lake! Unless it was a fairy unisus- surely a demonic or pegasus would be dragged down by their wings...
Fane stepped closer; his head tilted to one side as he examined the, well... The head. The other unicorn couldn't have not spotted him, but he hadn't called out... Maybe he wanted to be left alone, but Fane thought he'd just double-check, in case he was in trouble.
"Hey- are you okay out there?" he called; concern evident in his voice.

((Lol, I love his reaction! If horses can swim, unicorns certainly can. 4laugh )) Kynan stopped kicking out his legs for a moment, startled by the other unicorn's call. His head went under before he came up with a small grin.
"I'm alright!" he called back. He turned and swam towards the shore, just to prove it. As he emerged onto solid ground, he looked over at the unicorn.
"Thank you for asking, though." He had the greatest respect for fellow males who were considerate to others--far too many decided they had to be rough and masculine.
With an apologetic expression, he fell to rolling, drying his coat a bit in the grass.

Fane let out a small chuckle as the other unicorn rolled around to dry himself off; shaking his head slightly. That was a new one- choosing to swim. Still, maybe he just thought that because he had been raised in a family of pegusi.
"You're more than welcome." He chuckled again. "Gave me a bit of turn- I look up and see a head floating around. Still, I, ah. I'm sorry if I disturbed you- if you wish, I can leave you be...?"

Kynan apologized for his sudden rolling. "If I air dry, somehow I get itchy." He chuckled at the unicorn's description.
"I suppose seeing a head floating would give anyone a scare." Especially now, when everyone's uneasy and on edge. And when foals are disappearing without sign or explanation.
He was a bit confused. Did this stallion want to leave him be, or would he rather stay and talk. "I'm sorry," he said awkwardly, "Are you desiring conversation?"
Well that was awkwardly put.

Fane blinked in surprise; before laughing a little. He could see he'd confused the unicorn; it was unintentional, but he understood what he had meant with his words.
"I enjoy company, but I noticed that you didn't call out to me- and I know I was making such a noise that you must have noticed me. The most reasonable explainations were that you were in trouble and couldn't catch your breath, or you wanted to be left alone. I know now you weren't in trouble- so I thought I would check to see if you wanted to be left alone. I'd hate to force my company on someone who prefered to remain solitary."
Fane knew he had a habit of speaking too much, at times- but he had learned from his father than consideration and honesty were the most important traits in a unisus- but it was vital that he was always clear as to his intentions, so as not to hurt others. When he talked too much, it was generally to elaborate on what he meant or thought- and generally, it got a positive response from others.

Kynan closed his eyes for a moment, satisfying his unusually slow comprehension.
"Oh, it's quite alright actually," he assured the stallion when he had got the message. "I only didn't want to disturb you, you seemed so content and happy here." He felt so unintelligent.
The prospect of company brightened him considerably. Though actually he was usually shy and solitary, the uneasy air of the times made him seek safety in numbers, even small ones.(( crying Augh!! I couldn't think of what to do...))

Fane blinked; a little taken aback that the male just... Hadn't wanted to disturb his happiness. He smiled a little at that.
"That's... Very considerate. Most wouldn't care about disturbing others." He grinned; the male really did seem caring and nice.
"By the way, my swimming friend, my name is Fane."
((Sorry it's short...))

Kynan chided himself for forgetting an introduction. "Oh--I'm Kynan." Suddenly aware of his mistake, he looked down slightly ashamed.
This Fane was so polite and courteous, Kynan wondered if he'd ever had any trouble with anyone at all.
"It's a pleasure to meet you," he said politely. There. He needed to practice beginning conversations someday.

Fane smiled. "You too, Kynan!" Definately nice- but not very out-going. Hmm, if he were to set the unicorn up with either sister, it would have to be Shaolin; her bubbly nature might help bring Kynan out of his shell, whilst Jazzy would likely just intimidate him.
Gah, what am I thinking? I don't know if he's unattached- or if he would be interested in Shaolin in the slightest if he were! Fane gave himself a mental shake; he had to stop trying to match-make his sisters, they'd probably not thank him for his efforts anyway. They'd want to find their own mates; not someone he'd analysed and approved for them. He put the thoughts to the back of his mind, and made an effort to get to know the unicorn just for who he was.
"So, Kynan. Do you want to tell me about yourself?"
