 Aki glided gracefully through the air, her eyes closed as she took in the cool breeze. The wind was her friend, caressing and comforting her when she was upset, speeding her along at breakneck speeds when she felt happy and adventurous. She was in somewhat low spirits, discouraged by recent events. Right now, all she wanted was to fly forever, never come back down to where she felt like such a pest. If only there was someone like her, who could understand the need to be with others, to talk, and to be a bit crazy at times. She was lonely, she realized with a jolt of surprise.

Sundew loved his sister; there was no doubt about it. His parents were so supportive, and he and his sister so close; the little foal was happy.
But, although he could never put it into words, the little pegasus needed time away every now and again. It was hard to do- his parents were always looking over him, after all- but every now and again, he managed to slip away for a few minutes. Like now.
He was sat by the edge of a lake; peering into the waters. He smiled to himself; it was beautiful, and clear, and the sun was warm. He had exhausted himself getting away from Jasmine and Mother and Father, and was perfectly content just to sit for a while.

Beginning to tire, Aki spiraled gently downwards, thinking all the while how much she missed her friends. Making her characteristic crash landing, which she had never managed to overcome, the grey-and-red yearling landed among the trees just short of the edge of the forest, scraping herself among the branches. With an exasperated sigh, she set about extricating her feathery wings from the grasp of a thorny bush, wincing. This would have been so funny if there was someone else to share the moment with. A larger thorn pierced into her muzzle as she tried to push it aside, and she jumped backwards with a yelp.

((Okay.  ))  Aki spiraled gently down after an elated flight, paying close attention the angle of her wings so that she would land properly, at just the right speed. She was rather proud that she now flew so much more gracefully than she once had. She felt more confident, less self-conscious.
With a triumphant smile to herself, she lightly rested four hooves closely together in the grass, fluttering her wings delicately, like a faerie.
A little sheepish, she looked around to make sure no one had seen her childish display. Kanoa probably could have gotten away with something like that, she was so tiny and dainty, but Aki suddenly felt like an elephant, despite the fact that she herself was rather small.
"Sparrow," would have been the right word for the young mare. Though not nearly that small, she had the quaint little movements of a small bird, along with the light, cheery air about her. But, always comparing herself to her beautiful friend, the poor pegasus felt large and clumsy.

 Sundew was soaring over the plains and valleys; enjoying the updrafts and breezes. He had more difficulty flying that the typical pegasus; he had inherited his father's huge, muscled body and frame, although it was still lithe with youth, unlike his aging sire. Still, both of them had to work harder to keep their heavy bodies aloft; their wings huge and just as muscled as compensation, but they still preferred to keep their flights short and move on the ground. Still, today the air was so lovely he had had to take a short flight. He surveyed the ground, considering landing, when he caught sight of a female pegasus beneath him. A smile spread over his muzzle and made his brown eyes twinkle; he did enjoy meeting others. He spiralled down; letting gravity do the work, only using his wings to stop himself plummeting to the ground. He landed with a grace that belied his weight near the female.

Aki nearly squealed in surprise as a huge white stallion landed beside her. As it was, she stumbled backwards.
He was well-proportioned, muscular, and handsome, but so big! Composing herself and bringing her splayed limbs into order, Aki gave the other pegasus a friendly smile.
"Hello," she greeted him. A slight tremor shook her voice, not fear but the last traces of surprise. Again she looked up at him, marveling at his size.

Sundew blinked; then let out a laugh. His voice he had also inherited from his father; deep, big, but incredibly gentle. His laugh was the same. "I am very sorry." His eyes sparkled as he looked at her; she was small and attractive; and the spark in her eyes and the way she held her ears led him to believe she was bright, too. His social skills were something he had not inherited from his clueless father. "I didn't mean to startle you- I just thought that company is good on a day like today." He tilted his head to one side; his thoughts on courtesy. "Of course, if you'd rather not have company, you only need to let me know."

Aki was taken by surprise--this large male was incredibly polite and courteous, as well as friendly!
A sudden wave of remorse washed over her. How could she immediately assume someone was boorish and rude just because of size, never having met him before. A frown pulled at her mouth before she smiled brightly. Well, she certainly didn't think anything of the sort anymore!
"Oh, it's no problem at all," she replied pleasantly. "And I would love someone to talk to, if that's what you mean." Again she caught herself amazed at his size.
"I--I'm sorry, I didn't mean to stare." If anything, this large stallion was more polite than she was!

Sundew was highly amused at her changing facial expressions; but he kept it to himself, until she apologised again. Then he let out another laugh, and deep and gentle as the first. "It's quite alright! I get a lot of it- although, when I'm with my father, he gets all the attention. I'm as tall as him, but not as muscled." He smiled; he didn't see his father as often as when he was younger, but he was still incredibly fond of the socially inept stallion. "My name is Sundew." He knew it was a far more delicate name than suited his body; but it suited his nature. His mother had chosen it, and he had never hated it or wished for something different.

Aki blushed. She hadn't even introduced herself!
"I--I'm Aki," she stammered. But Sundew's gentle, friendly smile calmed her, eased her agitation at herself until she smiled at her own bumble.
She wrinkled her nose slightly when he compared himself to his father. "I think too much muscle doesn't look that good," she told him. Then her eyes widened.
"Meaning no disrespect to your father," she blurted quickly. Oh, she was making a complete fool of herself! She changed the subject, hoping he hadn't noticed her unwitting insult. "I--it's nice to meet you, Sundew."((Poor Aki. ))

Sundew smiled. "No offence taken, Aki. To be honest, on most stallions I'd agree; but given Father's size, he looks fine." He leaned closer to her, speaking with a light, mock-confidential air. "Most other stallions with that much muscle- it seems they're trying too hard to prove how "male" they are!" He smiled at her; leaning back again. "Father, though- it's just how he's built." Sundew took a step towards a little copse of trees. There were a number of streams in the area; and he knew there was a small pool there, which would be refreshing. He waited, though, to make sure that was okay with Aki. "By the way, Aki- you don't have to be so worried about offending me." His eyes sparkled with friendly mischief. "I'm not as scary as I look, I promise!" Not that he looked that dangerous, with his pink patches and shining collared marking...
