Isonoe had managed to take a break from Uni for the school festival. It had been a while since she had been a part of an event like this, so it was definitely a much needed break. She was happy that Apollo had wanted to come, it gave her an excuse to see everything. After grabbing their buckets she forked out some change for some cotton candy, sharing it with her son.

Apollo was happy to see the event. He was even more glad that his mother had managed to make it out. He even got a spider plushie from the very first booth they came to!

User ImageOkay, so this was Evelyn, Darryl's older sister? She looked nice, although she was also a really big kid. She looked about as tall as both of her parents now. Ruka shivered. Was she a nice kid? She couldn't tell. Instead of talking to any of them, she turned back to the dart game, where she asked for--and received--two more darts. The first one won her a candy apple, while the next one won her a stuffed bat.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageXeno watched his sister turn away with a sinking feeling in his heart. He leaned in close to whisper to Evelyn, "My sister's really shy. She's had some...well, she's had some bad experiences with people before. She's still getting used to nice people." Xeno took his own dart and threw it, landing him a nice glow bottle that he immediately hung around his neck.

User Image

User ImageEvelyn looked at the Geist and nodded sadly. "Understandable," she murmured. Evey was incredibly lucky--her parent, rather than abandon her for being hallowed, had kept her and raised her at great personal risk to themselves. Not everyone was as kind to their hallowed child--she knew that Talya had been abandoned at the Academy, and that plenty more had been as well. At least, abandonment was the reason she hoped Nkiruka had had bad experiences--she looked a lot like her dad. Evey looked Jurvik over suspiciously. Was he Nkiruka's real parent? And had he abused his child?

Evey pointed to her da. "This is my Da, Guereda Clark. Uh...I guess that's everyone introduced? I assume you introduced everyone else earlier." Evey picked up her own darts and threw them carefully. She got a stick of cotton candy and a stuffed bunny that was missing one eye. That was weird, but also strangely in-season for Haunted Hallows.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageTalya caught the suspicious glance her cycloptic friend had thrown the adult Geist and pulled Evey aside. "Nkiruka's adopted, just like Xeno is," she whispered. "I've heard good things about Jurvik from Xeno." Talya threw her own darts, winning herself a stuffed bat and some gum. It wasn't the good kind of gum, though, but the cheap gross kind that lost its flavor within seconds.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageDarryl shrugged. He really didn't care why Nkiruka was giving his mother the stink-eye, or his da. All he knew was that his parents were off-limits for angry glares. He threw another dart and won a pack of gross gum, the same kind as Talya had gotten.

User ImageUstule watched Perigor describe the colors with amusement. This was new. It seemed that Peri had found a new way to bond with Teo. It was very nice, mind you--it was a very sweet way of explaining colors to him. She did disagree on some of his description, though. Someone was passing nearby with candy, distracting Ustule from that thought. She held out her bucket and gave them her largest smile--which was still pretty tiny. "Trick or treat!" She came away with a bag of candy corn. "Thenk you! Heppy Haunted Hellows."

User Image

User ImageTeo smiled. "Those are some really nice colors, Peri," he murmured. Then he tried to think. Okay, so he'd mentioned pine trees and apples, which were both growing things, so that was green. But he'd also mentioned candlelight and sunshine, which were illumination colors, which were supposed to be yellow. "So...they're a green and yellow sort of color?" he asked Peri.

Someone was walking nearby. He held out his own bucket. "Trick or treat?" he said. From the sound of the object as it fell into his bucket, it was a rubber glove full of popcorn. It was one of the classics--a disgusting classic, but still a classic.

User Image

User ImagePerigor giggled. "Not quite. They're both greens, but they're both sort of on the lighter side of green, hence the sunlight and candlelight." Perigor turned to the adult, grinned, and said, "Trick or treat!" He, too, got a popcorn glove, but with the added benefit of a stuffed rabbit that was missing one eye. "Poor dear," he murmured sadly, looking at his rabbit. "Ustule, do you have a button I could borrow later? Well, I say borrow..."

User ImageUser Image

User ImageIt wasn't until they'd reached the next house that Fena looked over at his brother and noted that the green ooze in his pocket was leaking. "Uh, Frankie, you're oozing green," he said, pointing at the growing green stain on his shirt. His younger brother cried out in dismay, but Batholith swooped in to save the day.

"A lab coat is designed to protect you from spills," he said. "A stain on it only proves that your lab coat has been doing its job. It makes your coat look more authentic."

That seemed to do the trick. They reached the next house, said the magic words, and got their treats. Fena got a purple skull candy that he just knew his mother would never approve of.

User Image

User ImageFrankie was annoyed that the ooze had spilled over his clothes, but he also felt mollified at Batholith's explanation. Yeah. That's right. He was a real scientist, with real stains on his real labcoat! He was proud of the stain now, and when he put his new glow necklace on over his coat, he was happy to see that the green glow caught the green of the ooze and made it really stand out.

AIGH, I FORGOT TO ROLL D8 Oh well.

Jurvik was beginning to think that bringing his new daughter along trick-or-treating with a group that included two strange adults might not be a good idea. He took his daughter by the hand and led her a little ways away. "Sweetie," he murmured. "Are you going to be okay with this? Going trick-or-treating with this group? Because if you aren't comfortable going with these adults, then just let me know, we can split off and go trick-or-treating on our own, and we can pick up Xeno later. I don't want you to do anything you're not comfortable with."

Guereda was glad to be back with their family, about to go trick-or-treating. They probably had some time yet before Lillian joined them, unless they really did decide to go on ahead of the Nixie. Guereda had picked up a lantern at the entrance to the fair, just in case, and joined the rest. "Quiet evening so far?" they murmured to Mesektet. They leaned against Mesi, entwining their free hand with their lover's.

User Image

Mesektet nodded. "Pretty much," they murmured. "Darryl's being himself again, though."

User ImageVeddy nodded furiously. "Exactly," he said. "We should do what old folks did a long time ago and put a mark on that house so that everyone knows we can't ever, ever trick or treat there again." He perked up. "We could use the ooze!"

They were eventually able to talk him out of it on the grounds that no one wanted to actually touch the ooze. Sound Lee and Aura were starting to get tired as well. Their buckets seemed heavier than ever as they walked down the street to the next house. It was hard to deny that this was a good house, though--upon ringing the doorbell and chanting "trick or treat!" together, they each got a prize they loved. For Vederat, it was a stuffed skeleton. He wasn't as enthusiastic about the gum--it was the sort of gross stuff that people around this time of year bought for little kids.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageSound Lee's treat, on the other hand, was a stick of cotton candy, bright sea-green, with waves in it like the ocean. It was only with the greatest reluctance that he admitted to himself that it must someday be eaten. Oh well. Nothing good can last...

User Image

User ImageAura, too, had gotten cotton candy, although theirs was dark red. They was pretty sure this one was going to be flavored, but they were also determined not to open any of their candy until they got back to the dorms. They wanted to be able to spread it all out on their bed and just look at it all. That, of course, required not scarfing it immediately.

User Image

User ImageChries chuckled. He was at least eighty-five percent certain that his roommate had a crush on him, which was perfectly fine so far as Chries was concerned--he'd had a crush on Zalir since back when he was dating Ganymede! Zalir was just too cute. That was one of the reasons he had been so eager to go trick-or-treating with the Litch. "That's pretty good luck," Chries said solemnly. "Would you like to test that luck out on some games?"

Someone passed nearby holding a big box of candy. Chries reached out with a claw and tapped them on the shoulder. "Trick or treat?" the Imp asked.

The adult hesitated. "Sure thing," they said. "Uh, hands are kind of busy at the moment, so--each of you take one candy out of the box?"

Chries smiled. "You got it," he said. He selected a purple sugar skull for himself, then stepped aside to let Zalir make zeir selection.

User Image

User ImageJust standing next to Anchriesel got Zalir excited. He was just so handsome and fluffy and...well, he was very good looking? And smart? He liked enchanting, so he was also interested in magic, and he loved books, too! So it was pretty natural that Zalir was crushing on Anchriesel really hard at this point. Zey nodded. "I, I would love to, Anchriesel, um, I'm not sure which to start with, though?"

Oh, they were going to get candy? Zalir stepped forward and took a large lollipop from the box. "Thank you!" zey stammered. "Happy Haunted Hallows!"

User ImageDenidar smiled in satisfaction now that they had made their decisions. "Follow me," he said. He led his family along to an old, dilapidated looking house. It looked like there was already a group there waiting to go in, but they went in almost as soon as the Ramorths got there.

A pair of adults walked past the house, shuddering. "Ugh, that place," one of them said. "They seriously need to clean it up." They looked over at the Ramorths. "Are you about to go in there?" one of them asked incredulously, pointing at the house.

Deni nodded. "Yes."

"You're braver than the average kid," the other adult said. "You couldn't pay me to go in there. Here have these," they said. "For good luck." They handed Deni and his family four objects and scurried away.

Deni took a pack of gum and handed the stuffed sphinx to Sara. "Y'all should have this," he said. "It's sorta yer thang."

User ImageMelisara watched the adults walk away. "D'y'all think they maghta been potted plants?" she wondered. She shrugged and took a lollipop and the plush sphinx. It was unbearably cute... "Thanks, Deni."

User Image

User ImageNiol, at least, was pretty excited for a haunted house advertised like that. "Ah'm all for it!" he said, picking out a large lollipop. "C'mon, let's get in lahn before someone else does!"

User Image

User ImageThe vendor thought about it for a few seconds, then nodded. "Sure," they said. "Go right ahead!" Eidil surveyed the pumpkins carefully. How to pick? Chiropteromancy, a voice in her head said. She grinned and pulled Ratty gently off her back. "Pick one," she said. The bat seemed to think for a minute, then scraped its claw across the one on the far left. Eidil looked up at the vendor. "We'll take that one. Oh, and the one in the middle."

The one in the middle turned out to contain a box of raisins. The one on the end, on the other hand... Eidil gasped, barely containing a squeal of delight into a tiny whistle of happiness. It was a small green nezubat! A live one, not a stuffed one! "Ohmygoshthankyousomuchyou'rethebest," she said, although she wasn't sure if that was directed at the vendor or at Ratty. Of course! Bats were social! They would know where other bats could be found! Wait...where had that idea come from? "Are you psychic?" she asked Ratty suspiciously.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageCal snorted. "I wouldn't be that surprised," she said. "It's Haunted Hallows, after all. This time it was Cal's turn to pick a pumpkin, and she picked the center one again. She was in luck--that one contained a bag full of skull-shaped candies.

User ImageExploration of the house more or less came to a halt as the five of them--Oriset, Wyrdda, Kunibert, Naihilus, and the "porcelain doll" worked together to calm Jie down. As soon as she was sure that everything was in hand, Ori turned to the room and started exploring. It was no fair asking the doll for help--they'd have to do this on their own. Thankfully, there was a door in the wall, which sort of implied where they needed to go next. As she walked over to it, a rat skittered across her toes. She bent down to scoop up the dear and put him in the bucket with her other rat. "You're too cute," she said.

She waited by the door until her friends had rallied, then opened the door cautiously. It opened out onto a dark hallway lined with doors. Okay, this again. An upstairs hallway. Holding out her lantern, Oriset passed by faded, moldy pictures of previous occupants of the house. The doors were all locked except for the door at the end of the hall. Typical. As Oriset opened the door, however, something screamed immediately behind her. She whirled around to see what it was, only to be hit with something in the back of the head, coming from inside the room she was trying to enter. "I thought you couldn't throw stuff at us!" she shouted.

User ImageUser Image

User ImageWyrdda rubbed Jie's back until the Bakeneko had calmed down. She patted her new friend on the back one last time, then went over to Oriset to follow her down the corridor. When the door opened and the scream rang out, it echoed from everywhere. To Wyrdda, it seemed to be coming from inside herself. She shuddered, and only barely managed to avoid being hit with an object from the doorway, which was now spitting things at them. In her case, it was a stick of candy floss. Okay?

User Image

User ImageJie eventually calmed down from Wyrdda patting her on the back and Kuni patting her arm. Mostly she calmed down from the "porcelain doll," which was continuing to talk quietly. Now that she had a better look at the doll, she could see that they were a Hallowed Demon, or possibly a Demon/Fallen hybrid. They had merely been painted to look like a doll. They were very nice looking, and obviously a nice person.

"I'd like to meet you after this," the doll breathed softly. "To make sure you're okay. You seem really spooked here."

Jie nodded. "Yeah. This place is creepy." She didn't know why she was speaking as softly as the Demon was, but it felt appropriate. "Um, okay? When do you get off-shift? Er, do you?"

"Nine o'clock," the doll said. "Meet you out back? I promise, no one will jump out at you back there, it's just us actors there."

Jie smiled. "I'd like that. Um, see you then?"

It was time to leave this room. Jie crept along the corridor. When the scream came, she just sighed. She didn't have the energy to be frightened anymore. Her tail was puffed out so badly she was certain it would never get smooth again. She caught one of the puppets as it came wheeling past. "First dolls, now puppets?" she said. "So is this going to be the puppet room?" She peered inside and whistled. Apparently it was--the inside of the room was a doll-maker's workshop, full of disembodied limbs strung with wires and strings. She shivered. "This is worse than the last place!" she said. It looked like a charnel house without the gore!

User Image

User ImageKunibert was not good at comforting people, but he did his best by patting Jie on the arm. "Zere, zere," he said. "Zere, zere." When she had calmed down enough to move, he followed along behind her. Nai, however, was lagging behind, crouched on the floor. "You coming?" Kuni asked.

"Yeah, in a sec," Nai said. "Go on ahead, but don't get further than the next room, please."

Kuni nodded. "Right." He followed the others into the corridor and was promptly pelted with a puppet and a stuffed bat. He tapped Jie on the arm and offered the bat to her. "Vould you like zis?" he asked her.

User Image

User Image <-- given to Jie

User ImageNai had to stay behind--there was a kitten there. He pulled the kitten out of the shelving and turned to the doll. "Is this yours?" he asked.

"What is it?" the doll asked out of the corner of their mouth.

Nai frowned. "It's a kitten."

The doll sighed ever so slightly. "I'll explain to your friend later. Keep it."

Nai needed no second bidding. He already had a plan for what to name this kitten. He stuffed it, resisting only slightly, into his pumpkin and followed his friends out into the corridor. As the last one there, he picked up the last object left on the ground, a green candy apple. He tapped Jie on the shoulder and offered it to her. "Would you like one?" It was the best way he could think of to comfort her.

User ImageYaviss was surprised that the hybrid had stood up alongside him, even moreso when Quilo offered to stay with him. Yaviss...didn't really need companionship, but at least he wasn't being pressured into anything. Yet, he added quickly. As they waited for the Naiad's reply, Yaviss received another stuffed animal and a candy apple from a passerby. "Thanks," he murmured. "Happy Haunted Hallows!"

User ImageUser Image

User ImageQuilo wasn't sure what Zuna's reaction was going to be. He didn't know them that well. It seemed to be taking them some time to come to a decision--stay with the group, or go off on their own? In the meantime, Quilo received a lollipop from a passerby whose color reminded him of Ella. Okay, he was getting more and more depressed now.

User Image

User ImageZuna hadn't exactly expected them to be served like royalty, but they had definitely expected their comma--suggestion to be met with acceptance or even enthusiasm. Instead, what they got was pushback! "Alright," Zuna said. "You two can stay out here playing like little babies. I'm going to celebrate the holiday in style and go to a haunted house." With that, Zuna turned on their heel and marched off in the direction of a nearby haunted house. The same passerby giving the boys treats handed them a striped lollipop. "Thank you," Zuna said coldly. They were in no mood right now for cheer, dangit!

User Image

User ImageCiel trembled with excitement. That was such a nice person who passed through. They hadn't caught their name though! Oh dear, was she about to get in trouble now for breaking character? There were security cameras hidden in this room, but they didn't have good enough resolution for that, did they? To see their lips move? Not that their lips had moved much...

The trapdoor opened and Berek, the Geist working in the torture chamber, poked his head through. "I heard that," he murmured.

Ciel groaned. "They were so upset!" she said. She had to keep her voice down so that the teenagers didn't hear, but she desperately wanted to howl. "What was I supposed to do?!"

"Not hit on a minor?" Berek asked. His voice was tinged with amusement.

Ciel made a face. "I wasn't hitting on them! I was just...offering them comfort!"

"Offering them comfort," Berek said. "Now that's an old euphemism."

Ciel waved her hand as if swatting away an annoying fly. "You know what I meant!"

"That's okay," Berek chuckled. "Your secret's safe with me. The boss will never know." He started to close the door, then paused. "Here, take this," he said, sliding what sounded like a bag of candy. "It'll cheer you up a bit." With that, he ducked his head back down and closed the trapdoor.

Cybelle hummed softly to himself, their relationship was great when they were freshlings and he still cared a lot for Wren but things changed. Cy shook his head then turned back to the flitterrat race game. Cybelle attempted to line up his shot to hit the target to move the plushie flitterrat along the track to win the game. Raleka grinned, nodding vigorously at his question, "I'd love to do that!" Tonight was the perfect weather for pumpkin picking. She'd already carved a gourd with her children a few nights prior, keeping the pumpkins near fresh with her green thumb magic, but something about doing it with Addie seemed so special. She could already see the pumpkin patch on the edge of the festival, and she began leading them toward the field. She was so excited, she didn't even notice when someone walked by and slipped a few items into her pail. "Do you like making spooky faces, or more complicated designs?"

User ImagePlacing the bag of candy eyes into her pail, Gilly turned to her friend with mischief glinting in her eyes. "Know what? I say we follow my new friend here and let him lead us to all of the candy!" Already knowing what her more level-headed friend would say about the caretakers, she reached over and clapped Zoe on the back. "It'll be just for tonight, and really; how can they expect us to just go at their slow pace when there's SO MUCH candy out there waiting? And if anyone asks, you're good at talking to people; you can talk them out of turning us back over to the caretakers!"
Every problem solved in her own mind, Gilly grinned at the vespercat. "Okay, we're ready for the next treat!" The creature turned around and pranced through the crowds, stopping at a game booth that featured a balloon dart game where you could win paper ghosts. "Oh look; how cute! Let's win some, Zoe!"
A few minutes later, the pair left the stand, each with their own small ghost on a string. Gilly giggled as she swung hers around. "Wooooooo! Look out; it's a ghost!"

User ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser ImageUser Image

User Image
Despite the fun the night was already turning out to be, Zoe couldn't help but fidget. She hadn't seen their caretakers since they started following Gilly's new friend, and she wasn't usually one to just run off on her own. So when Gilly suggested they just run off for the whole night, she naturally balked at the idea. "B-but.....I......the care-.......but!" But of course Gilly just ran off to the next big adventure and left her there sputtering. Sighing and hoping this wouldn't come to light if she ever managed to be a big important figure when she grew up, Zoe gathered up the ends of her reaper robe and followed.
She stopped at the ghost booth and couldn't help but look up eagerly at the paper ghosts with all of their funny little faces. Finally resigning herself, she grinned and picked up a dart, watching her friend throw a wild throw that nicked a balloon can caused it to emit air with a loud squeal, and chose her sight more carefully, neatly popping a balloon and pointing out the ghost she wanted.
Walking away from both the booth and the last of her doubts, Zoe grinned at her friend and waved her own ghost around. "My ghost is gonna haunt my teacher!"

Ruari continued to munch away on his candy apple, realizing far too late that the caramel could easily stick your mouth shut if you're not careful. Taking a bite of exposed apple in an attempt to mix it in with the caramel surplus in his mouth, he didn't notice the shady figure in a long, dark robe until it tapped him on the shoulder. "Excuse me," a voice that sounded as dry and raspy as withered leaves and yet strong enough to be heard in the crowd reached Ruari's long ears, and he whirled around, mouth still full of apple and caramel. "Mhuh?"
The figure in front of him might have been someone costuming as an old crone, but it was so incredibly lifelike that it was hard to tell if it was real or not. Milky-looking eyes fixed onto Ruari, and a withered hand reached into the robe's musty interior, reemerging with a colorful candy bar. "This candy is infused with a special spell; perhaps it might come in handy to a young prince?"
Ruari took the candy and looked at it curiously. "Looks like a regular candy bar to me.....what kind of-?" He looked up and gasped as he saw that the strange crone was gone. "Huh......" He looked at the colorful candy bar, briefly offering it to his friend to sniff, and seeing no averse reaction, put it in his pail. "Who knows; might prove for a fun night some night."

User Image Leannan decided she could no longer stay away, even just buying groceries the other day she had over heard so many people talking excitedly about how fun the festival was. For some reason, the elf just hadn't felt like being part of the festivities. Now that she was there, she could definitely see the appeal. A nearby vendor waved the elf over, and pressed something into her hands. Raisins...?

User Image Lillith had woken up quite late finding herself swamped in work. Deciding that she needed to get out, Lillith decided to go to the Festival she had been hearing so much about. Upon her arrival, a Nightmare in costume gave her a bucket and told her to use it to collect whatever treasures she might receive. Intrigued, Lillith briskly made her way to the nearest booth. The vendor prompted her to pull a straw from a darkened jar, and so she did. Choosing at random, the girl pulled a straw out, with a green coloured bottom. The Vendor smirked, and dropped something into Lillith's bucket. Raisins...?

User Image Kess thanked the Nightmare who gifted her a brightly coloured, red pumpkin bucket. She understood the main idea of the event was to play games and try to win prizes, but she wasn't entirely sure of how her skill at these games would be. Approaching a booth, Kess noted that there didn't seem to be any sort of real skill applied to this game, as she watched others simply picking duck's out of a small pool of water. After a few minutes of observing, Kess decided to take a chance at this game. Picking out one of the ducks, she handed it to the vendor to see what she won, or if she had at all. The vendor grinned after glancing at the bottom of the rubber duck, and tossed a bag of candies into Kess' bucket.

Elyn
-----------------

After receiving her collection bucket at the main entrance to the festival, Elyn giddily pranced up to the nearest booth. The vendor smiled at the girl and gestured for her to pull a straw from the jar on the table. Doing as instructed, Elyn pulled a straw with a purple coloured bottom. The vendor smiled and handed her a big cone of candy floss. Delighted, Elyn skipped off to the next thing.

User Image Eliza perked up at the kiss, cheeks turning a brighter purple. Ah. That was nice. No - wonderful. She wanted to ask for another one, yet her nerves took over. She wouldn't dare. Not yet.

"Where do you wish to go?" Eliza questioned faintly, pretty sure she had already asked this before, yet that kiss had honestly fogged her brain.

User Image His laugh was cute. Not the kind that grated your ears, or left a headache coming. It was kind, just like he was, which was further proved when he handed her a candy skull. Accepting the gift, the baphomet's tail wiggled slightly as she looked at her new fennekit, offering them a tiny piece of cotton candy. The familiar wagged their tail violently, lapping up the treat before running in circles at her feet.

"Cute." She whispered, eyes catching as a paper ghost fell into her pail. Suddenly, an idea came to her. Gently, she scooped up the ghost, pulling out a tiny pen she always brought with her before, sneakily, writing her number within the folds.

"Here, you should have this." She wasn't about to, out right, tell him her number was in it, but hopefully he'd eventually spot it later.

User Image Water and boats. Fair enough. She doubted they'd run into those things anywhere at the academy. Probably if they left and entered the city, but Maple knew she hadn't asked her mother and texting Ava during this event was straight out. Ava was probably struggling with Ariel and her duties.

"Okay." She repeated, gesturing towards a spooky hedge maze. "Why don't we start there?"

User Image She set her familiar down for Nasai to pick up, eyes locking on the plushie in her new friends hands. Where could she get one of those, anyway? It was a little known fact she hoarded the small, lovable plushes. If one entered her room they might find it impossible to traverse thanks to her expanding collection.

"That'd be wonderful." Cherie chirped, head turning slight to see..... another lonely Revenant. Eagerly, she reached out, tugging on Nasai's sleeve. "Hey, there's your chance to take one home!"

"Spooky, honestly. It gets me in the spirit of the event. What about you?"

User Image Lapis nodded softly, appreciative he'd take the kitten home. Quietly, she stared at her fennekit before, finally, asking the question she had been holding onto.

"The kittens we found. Are you looking for homes for them?"

"Thank you.... for spending time with me."
