ASPIRATIONS/PERSONALITY/BIO
Aspirations: To become a strong swordsman that can serve the Sanctum and keep those who serve the Sanctum safe.
Personality: Jolanta is the sort that is very dedicated to the cause that he is taken up since becoming a prentice, zealously so in fact, wanting nothing more then to do whatever it takes to keep the people of the Sanctum safe. He is the sort that always seems to have a serious, stoic sort of look about him, rarely cracking a smile. He feels that jokes and play can be left to those who aren't seeking to go down the path that he is going down.
If he is asked to do something by a member of the Sanctum Jol is willing to put his all into any request that is given to him. It doesn't matter how big or how small he is willing to do everything and anything to the best of his abilities. If it will make those he wants to serve happy then he's more then willing to do his best to fulfill their requests.
If a request involves any risk to his person its a risk that he is willing to take, feeling that he owes everything to the Sanctum. What is a wound or two if it means making the people that saved him happy? He feels that he can always visit a healer and get patched up and be back to work the moment he's on his feet again. The idea of taking it easy never really occurs to him.
Bio: Jolanta is a very serious young man, one who has a single minded desire to do one thing, that being to become a guardian of the Sanctum. Since the outsiders arrived on Yael his desire has own grown that much stronger as he sees those from outside the village as a threat but that wasn't what started him on such a path. Due to various things that happened when Jol was a child it was thought that he was in fact cursed.
The youngling seemed to be accident prone, often seemingly tripping over nothing, getting lost in the forest even when sent on the easiest of tasks, and even nearly getting trampled by a Limbara that was far from its normal hunting grounds. It were as though nature itself were against the poor boy and as such brought to the Sanctum to be inspected and given a blessing in order to cure him of his curse. His family wanted Jol to be able to lead a normal life, one that didn't involve so many incidents to pile up one after the other, and before the curse was able to kill him. In fact after all he went through he was lucky enough to be left with only the one pronounced scar on his back as a reminder of his dark past.
Once he became a prentice Jolanta moved from Ilidan where he lived his parents so that he could live with one of his aunts in Pajore to be closer to the Sanctum. His parents weren't exactly certain about him going off to Pajore to live with his aunt at first, given the way that he grew up they were fairly over protective of him even after he went to have his curse lifted by those in the Sanctum. It was the fact that he was so adamant about it, to the point of being ready to go without their blessing, that they even allowed him to go.They try to visit as often as they can, wanting to check up on him, and when they aren't able to make it they send him letters with others who make the trek between the villages.
His reasoning for going is simple to him, it's that it was the intervention and hard work of the Priests and Priestesses at the Sanctum was able to help him break free of his curse. The fact that he is still alive and in one piece is something that he attributes to the Sanctum and those who live within it. They are the reason that he is still walking around and its something that makes him want nothing more then to work for them and protect them in any capacity that they deem him worthy of. No matter what they might ask him, even the most menial of fetch quests or an escort around the village, he is willing to do anything and everything for them.
He isn't even the sort of question their requests either, willing to step up and do anything that is asked of him. It's something that leaves him a bit open for teasing on their part though but even that he allows. If it makes them happy then he's happy, though it can be hard to tell at points since he takes everything so seriously.
Jol plans to become a warrior, wanting to be someone that can devote his entire being to those in the Sanctum. He will be their sword if that is what is required of him, especially now that it's come to light that the Alkidike that were banished to Yael are growing in numbers. It seems that the best thing for him to do in such days when the threats are gathering on various fronts is to take up a weapon and protect those who can't due to their serving the Sanctum. If he can stand between the Priests and Priestesses and anything threats that come their way, if he can take any wounds meant for them upon his own person, then he would be happy. To die so that they can live feels like a fair trade given his life is owed to them.
Presently he sort of lumps everyone together. Either they are outsiders (non-Yaelian) and a threat or they are his tribe and those that he wants to protect. He won't exactly be welcoming to those from the Mainland, especially if they approach any of those he's wanting to protect. If he's on his own there is a possibility that they might be able to try to talk to him but he would be fairly standoffish and more then ready to draw his weapon if he felt even the least bit threatened.
With time he might learn that there are various layers to the outsiders, that some are worse then others, but at the moment they are all one in the same in his mind.
~ A very serious young man who is currently living in Pajore, Yael. Jolanta is a man whose goal has been set in his mind since he was young. He wants to serve the Sanctum as a paladin, offering all of himself to keep everyone within safe.
~ Armed with a great sword, a real one now instead of a wooden one, as well as being taken on as a true paladin of the Sanctum. It's not a time for him to rest on his laurels. Instead it's time for him to work even harder to show that he is truly worthy of the title that he's been given.
~ Jolanta has gone from a protector to a mercenary. His heart is colder now, his personality changed, and he sees zero reason these days to attempt to save anyone. He works for money now only, seemingly with the only goal ahead of him staying alive until his next hunt. It's just the results of all that he's lost coming to a head in his mind and all he can do is pray to Dafiel to forget what he lost so he can try to find at least a bit more meaning going forward.
~ Still a serious man but one that seems to have gotten a goal that is worth chasing after, that being a girl that he met. She's an odd one and far different then what he's used to dealing with but that is what makes her interesting. She's someone that has inspired him to quit his mercenary work in Oba so that he can chase after her, hoping to catch her before she disappears.
~ Wooden Sword: A wooden sword that his aunt helped him get so that he could practice with it. It's a similar weight to a real sword which allows him to get used to carrying the weight around with him at all times.
~ A female janarim that Jolanta caught as a pup, partly by accident. He named her after a flower that has a similar name to the Goddess that his sends his prayers to. He's training her to become a good mount so that he's able to do his merc work more easily in the future.

EARTHLING: YAELI
The island of Yael is home to the yaeli earthlings, a surprisingly odd race of earthlings that have evolved over time to suit their surrounding. Yael was once the destination of those cast off in exile from the mainland of Tendaji. The outcasts, the hybrids, the criminals, and the mentally unwell were shipped off to the coast of Yael, left to either figure out a way to survive, or die off. After hundreds of years, the island was forgotten, and the mix of races on Yael merged and melded into one: the Yaeli. This group shares genetic material from seemingly all races of earthlings of Tendaji. Though the island has long since flourished and the genetic blend has taken on its own set of racial markers.
The skin of the Yaeli takes on dull olive tones, often tanning or freckling from the harsh sun and hot weather. The chemicals and pollution permanently rooted in the soil and ground underfoot has turned their crystals and sclera a dark, deep black. The Yaeli's hair is purple tones of all shades, and their crystals tend to form on their stomachs predominantly, but can be found anywhere on their bodies.
Their eyes are a light gray color, and oddly enough, the chemicals in the soil has caused the Yaeli's irises to glow. The same chemicals also tend to leave the Yaeli with bad eyesight, sometimes from birth. Those that leave the island - and consequently change their diet - lose their glow, though it does seem to return with some time back on the island.
Their access to dyes and coloring for their clothes leave them with a dull color palette, containing many different hues, but no vibrancy in their clothing. The people of Yael wrap themselves in loose airy clothing, as an attempt to keep the heat and humidity away.
Once cast off from the mainland, the Yaeli over time have developed a phobia of the mainlanders, fearing their evils, and effectually creating a boogeyman vibe concerning the rest of Tendaji.
Religion: The yaeli believe in only two dieties: the Goddess and the God. Lurin is the God of the Land of the Remembered, a place where those who have died have living relatives to carry on their names and celebrate their life. Dafiel is the Goddess of the Land of the Forgotten, where souls come under the watch of their Mother when there is no longer anyone to mourn for them. Lurin The male God, God of the Land of the Remembered, often depicted as the light side of the deities Dafiel The female Goddess, Goddess of the Land of the Forgotten often depicted as the darker side of the deities
The Yaeli are also incredibly superstitious in nature. They believe that if bad things are happening to them that the gods are displeased, and if something bad is happening to an individual that they have been hexed or there is someone out there sending them bad juju out of jealousy or anger. They believe in cleansing their houses of bad spirits and getting their children blessed at the Sanctum to protect them from the dead. Their list of superstitions can get pretty lengthy.
Government: The Yaeli have developed a government ruled by their religious leaders. The Sanctum (their official estate) holds a hierarchy of priests and priestesses, with a male High Priest and female High Priestess as their leaders. The High Priest and Priestess are the mortal voice of the two deities and are only replaced when they age and retire. Young children are often chosen from the villages for showing some sign of being "touched" by the two gods and are pulled into the Sanctum for the beginning of their training as priests and priestesses, though only one boy and one girl are chosen to replace the High Priest/Priestess when the time comes. Some of the children do not make it to the end of their training and assume positions of small religious governing under the lesser priests/priestesses creating something resembling a council.
