❀Personality:___Socially Confused: Growing up she's had a hard time distinguishing between the living and the dead, and now she has a hard time dealing with the living, because the dead and the living are extremely different. The dead treat her one way, and the living another. The dead have been building her up and praising her her entire life, and they're very personal with her. She gets plenty of one on one time with the spirits and their undivided, caring, and friendly attention are what she's used to. Of course that's not always how the living will interact with her, and their reactions and responses can have her moods swinging faster then an irritated cat's tail. Her own reactions to the things people do also don't quite line up. Inappropriate emotional and conversational responses; She touches when she shouldn't, speaks when she shouldn't, takes offense when she shouldn't, doesn't get the concept of subtlety or sarcasm. She's blunt, forward, and clueless, and she takes things personally that aren't meant to be.
___Studious: Whatever faults Shin-Mu may have, laziness and procrastination are not included. She is diligent and prompt in anything she does. Taking pride in a job done well and in a timely manner. This carries over into her studies, and she has been known to spend hours at a time with her nose buried in the literature and research on Soul Conduits and Priests. She's ambitious, and even now at the academy level she's filling her head with tips, techniques, and anything and everything she can find that will help her hone her skills and give her a leg up her training. She understands that if you want something in life, you need to work for it. Hard work is rewarded and a sign of strength. Laziness is the mark of the weak willed. Everything her family has was earned through hard work, both laborious and studious, and it is the continued diligence of her parent's that's maintained the wealthy way of life that the Xia clan has grown accustomed to. Along with book studies, she's an apt musician, and certainly didn't get that way without hard work and dedication. She spends time each day practicing her instruments to keep her skills sharp. This is especially important, as she uses her Dizi to channel her powers and keep them controlled.
___Obsessive Compulsive: Dirt, filth, and anything considered unclean or messy have no business on or around Shin-Mu. She can't stand the feel of anything on her skin, specifically her hands. It's extremely distracting, as well as having a near phobic reaction, and she has a hard time focusing on anything else until she can remedy the problem. Like wise, though a little less severe, she doesn't like her clothing being messy or marred. Not only are messy robes unfit for a noble, but it also distracts her, just not as badly.
On a related note, she doesn't like failing at things. If her fingers fumble while playing her dizi, or she trips over something it irritates her to no end. It's embarrassing, and frustrating, and thus messing up is not acceptable. She's also a bit of a control freak. What she can't control she often get's frustrated with or avoids.
___Craven: She's a very haughty, hard to manage young woman. Appearing arrogant or even cruel to the people around her. Always pushing them away and keeping them at arms length. People leave her feeling confused, intimidated and unsettled almost always. She comes off as proud and sure of herself, but she's wracked with insecurities and nerves, and throws up cold indifference, cruelty, and arrogance as a shield to protect herself. To put it frankly; People scare her.
___Greedy: A mark of the privileged noble, Shin-Mu is very greedy, both for material things and for attention. She collects things that are important or of value to her, and is very protective of her keepsakes. She tends to be attracted to things of great monetary as well as personal value. Expensive musical instruments, commissioned hair ornaments or puzzle rings, assorted baubles and knickknacks. At a closer look, though, one would find that she's collecting these things to fill the void that a lack of "human" interaction has left. If she doesn't form bonds, she won't get hurt. Her possessions can never leave her, never ignore her, never hurt her. She controls them fully, and that control is comforting.
Attention comes to her from the dearly departed that follow her around like some macabre version of the Pide piper, and she soaks it up. In her mind, all of their focus goes to her, and her alone, and she adores the idea of that. When she does manage to get past her social confusion and fear of the living and manage to form bonds she becomes very, very attached to them, and she'll crave and seek out their attention and praise. Always needing their approval and showing great jealousy when they give their attention to anyone but her. She's clingy, and she's stubborn, and she will fight to keep said person's attention up to the point where you'd have to pries her away from them kicking and screaming to the last. That person is now -her's- and she doesn't like to share, and the thought of losing them can send her into a panic attack.
❀Quirks:___Picking: While not occupied with something, or if she's terribly nervous, she has a habit of picking at things. Anything will do, really, so long as it's clean; loose threads in her clothing, paint flaking off decorative pens or baubles. If those aren't available though, and they usually aren't, it's her nails and cuticles. She can usually hide it, long sleeves hold a multitude of sin, and there are times she's been able to control herself and stop completely, but it doesn't take long before she catches herself at it again.
___Color Coordination: This doesn't refer to her clothing, though she does organize her closet by color and occasion. This ties in with her obsessive compulsive disorder. When doing puzzles, Shin will first meticulously sort through all the pieces and group them by color before even beginning to work on it. When eating fruit, she tends to eat in the order of the colors of the rainbow. Red fruit first, then orange, then yellow, and so on. Her possessions are organized by color. It's not as severe a compulsion as her near phobic reaction to dirt, but it's definitely noticeable and very quirky.
