This is a private roleplay between Shin-Mu [Beejoux] and Cais [Never Crazy]

Setting:

The path leading down through the Noble estates.

Shin is on her way down to the Artisan's Path, and runs into Cais.
PostPosted: Wed Jan 05, 2011 8:46 am

Since the night of her and Huang's split Shin had been something of a recluse. She left the house as little as possible, and only when absolutely necessary. She'd realized quite early that her mood and temper simply couldn't hold up in public, as was made obvious by her duel in the bath house. Yue had been prodding her, baiting her relentlessly, but if not for her sour mood, Shin never would have risen reacted as she had. A calmer, far more rational Shin would have simply gathered her things and walked away.

That little incident had been proof enough to the noble that she needed time to herself, away from the annoyances of the general public, and so she'd shut herself in her room, avoided nearly everyone.

It had been a few weeks since, and though she didn't feel exactly like her old self(she suspected she never would again), she didn't feel half so bad as she did. At Rong's insistence she'd agreed to take a walk down to the Artisan's path. Perhaps a new puzzle or hand crafted trinket could lift her mood a bit. Really, anything in that moment that could take her mind off her woes was welcome. She didn't dwell as bad as she had been, but there were still times when her mind wandered back to the legionaire and their heartbreaking clash.

Like now. Growling under her breath, Shin forced the cold hearted b*****d from her mind, focused instead on the path under foot and what she might find at her destination. She'd spent enough time being sad and angry at him, she was ready to let go.

His mother was cooking a special dinner which required most of the day. That usually meant they were expecting a guest or making a large deal with merchants on their imported goods. Regardless of the reason Cais found himself booted out of the house while preparations continued and his father minded the shop. Not that it particularly bothered Cais to have a long while to himself, it was the fact of the WHY that bothered him.

It had been years since the well known catastrophe he had caused plagued the kitchen, but his little sister and mother had since agreed that he shouldn't be allowed near it, especially when company was expected. It irked him, but there was nothing to be done for it. With a deep breath he set out from his house with his hands buried in pockets.

Perhaps he would go exploring some of the Quiet Roads or even find a new dock to dive off of. He thought of finding new sands to use in making glasswork or maybe finding an underwater cave to explore. Any thought in his head besides any foul memory would be fine enough and any outlet to that fine by him.

"Guess I should just start by going this way." He muttered lightly to himself, walking down the road in the way of Noble Estates. He had yet to explore all of it and had many fond memories of running around as a child looking for abandoned houses. With a nostalgic sigh he kicked a small rock, looking up to where it had landed.

He was pleasantly surprised to see a familiar shape making her way down the same path. Shin was a ways off but Cais was happy to see her, he had never gotten to thank her properly for helping him during the Festival of Spirits. In fact, he hadn't even seen her since then. He took his hands out of his pocket and stood straight, smiling towards her. "Hey there!" he cried out, as nicely as possible. He was wondering if she'd even notice him.

Somber gaze trained on the foliage and houses lining the road, Shin didn't immediately notice the smaller figure wandering towards her a ways down the path. Not until a familiar voice reached her ear, and it took the noble a moment to place a face with the sound, though when she did she couldn't help but smile. Raising an arm to wave to him as she sped her pace a bit to close the distance between them a little more quickly.

She hadn't seen since their walk among the graves during the festival, she hadn't really seen anyone since that day, but she remembered him. He'd been very sweet and endearing, and she'd held hopes of running into him again. "Cais, Hello." Voice raising so she'd be easily heard, she called to him. "My, aren't you a sight for sore eyes." Frankly, there were very few people she would have been truly happy to see, and though they'd only met once, somehow the young man had made it onto that short list.

"Been doing well since last we spoke, I hope?" He at least looked like he was doing alright, though looks could be deceiving. She hoped, in this case, they weren't.

"So where are you headed today?" Perhaps he'd like to accompany her into town? Some good company would be welcome for sure. As she neared him she noticed the angle of his hat was a little off, and with a gentle nudge she pushed it into a more centered position on his head.

His eyes lit up at hearing his name come from her and it guided his steps to quicken. He stopped in front of her and smiled. "It's good to see you too, Shin." Cais always felt calmer around her, even enough so to shorten her name (he hoped she wouldn't mind it as he felt closer to her than most others he had recently met). Perhaps it was her aura reaching into his or perhaps he felt the necessity to act as such to impress her. Whatever the case, it was a welcome feeling to his normally frenzied and emotionally driven demeanor.

"I've been doing well. You know how it goes, life just rolling along as it always has." He continued to smile, though looked over her carefully. Something seemed off about her, though he couldn't quite place it. A concerned look appeared on his face and his brow creased slightly, though he stopped it so as to not to alarm her. "Oh, I actually don't have any plans today. Mother's taken over the kitchen so I've been kind of, cast out. I was planning on just exploring..." He trailed off, unsure if she'd be interested.

When she approached him he felt a strange surge of emotion run through him. He felt his hat move and smiled a little, his face flushing gently at the gesture. "Oh, thanks." he replied, rather meekly. He laughed nervously and looked back at her. "So, how are you doing? Well, I hope?" he blinked, watching her expression carefully. "Since I don't have any plans, would you perhaps like someone to walk into town with? If that was where you were headed that is."

He blushed again, but held his stance. He felt silly but stood behind his words. If she was feeling down he wasn't about to let her go off alone, not after she had been so kind to him in his time of sorrow.

Happy with the placement of the young man's hat, the girl was content to fold dark arms, either hand slipping within the sheer lengths of ocean toned sleeves, palms curling over the opposite elbow. It was something of a guarded stance, though it wasn't a conscious thing on her part. Admittedly, she had been having a tough time of things as of late, so a self comforting placement of arms was, at the very least, very understandable. She did smile though as he came to a stop before her, a genuine little up tilt of teal painted lips.

"I'm glad to see things have been going smoothly for you." At least they were for someone. She very carefully kept that lost thought from the inflection of her voice, there it may well have showed subtly on elegant features in a tightness aorund the eyes. There and gone in the blink of an eye. In response to his inquire upon her well being she gave her lower lip a tiny nibble, though her smile never slipped. "Well enough I suppose," she mused, chin tilting gently to the side. "Far better now, I can assure you."

Clearly the young man had some latent ability in live soul magic, for he'd just managed to dip into her mind. "I would like that very much." Company, very specific company, would be highly welcomed. "I was on my way to the Artisan's Path."

Her goal for the afternoon was to leave bad memories behind and not to dwell, and Cais' company would be a big help in that matter. His mannerisms and mood had endeared him to her, and his company was actually a comforting thing.

"Artisan's Path it is then." Cais said, nodding to her and taking a stance by her right side. A smile graced his lips as he began to walk with her. Peace was something absent in his life and peace is what Shin brought whenever she was around him. He felt obligated to continue into a conversation and coughed to clear his throat, smiling back to her in his natural fashion.

"Are you planning on buying something or just admiring the artwork?" He was genuine with his words and his voice infliction was merely one of a calm demeanor. He was not bold enough to ask her outright what troubled her, though he was aware of a troubling nature. No, he felt he should leave it be and perhaps keep her attention on something nicer, such as a walk with a friend down a row of beautiful shops.

As they passed through houses and turned down a street Cais's face lit up while looking to nearby shops. Artwork hung in the windows reflected back to his vision, causing a grin to appear on his face. After admiring the displays he turned back to his companion. "I hear the jeweler just got in some new gems and silver and will put the new pieces on display." he shrugged his shoulders lightly, "Though I don't really wear jewelry, I'm not really an expert... and I guess it will sound weird, but I do enjoy looking at it. Maybe it has something to do with an artist's view on art, I'm not sure. Er..." he was rambling and cleared his throat to stop himself. "I guess what I mean to say is, would you like to go take a look?"

She waited until he took up a post at her side before beginning to walk again, pace easy and unhurried. As he asked about her plans dark shoulders rolled in the smallest of shrugs, lips pursing as she considered it. "I have no real plans for when I get there, though if something truly fantastic catches my eye I'll have to have it."

He noticed the slight shadow in her mood, she knew he did, but he hadn't yet asked. She was grateful, or at least she assumed she was. Frankly, she'd only really gotten to speak to one other person about everything that had happened. Would it help to talk about it further? Or should she continue to bottle it up? She simply didn't know. She'd never before had to deal with anything even remotely close to the emotional turmoil she had been put through, was still going through.

She admired the various paintings and trinkets hung in the windows of shops as they passed by them, concentrating on them, and the young man beside her, rather then anything negative that hoped to nag at her memory.

Cais was proving to be a very effective distraction though, and she smiled down at him as he mentioned the jeweler and prospect of admiring some lovely new pieces. "I would love to." She actually lifted a hand to rest it on his shoulder lightly.

She didn't have a great many friends, had never really thought she needed them. She had her ghosts, the spectral guardians that had been her companions for as long as she could remember. But she was finding as of late that she perhaps needed more.

A thin pink line crept onto his cheeks again at the feel of her touch. It was a warm feeling and truly enlightening for him. Generally he would shy away immediately but felt calmer than usual. Shin usually did have that affect on him and he was growing quite attached to this non-frenzied self of his. Clearing his throat he walked beside her, admiring the shops silently while the two moved in close proximity. Slowly, his eyes moved to a smaller shop and he stopped, staring at a painting hanging near an open door.

"That's beautiful." He muttered, taking a step from her to study it. Upon further inspection he found it to be a woven tapestry, sewn with such precision it looked as if to have been painted directly onto the fabric. Gesturing her over, Cais moved aside for her if she wanted to look. He felt like a giddy schoolboy but couldn't help himself in both the presence of fine artwork and good company.

Studying it for a moment he turned back to her with a smile. "What do you think? It was a simple question, but he was looking forward to getting to know her better. Artwork lifted his spirits though he wasn't sure if it would help hers any. "I bet whoever made it has a lot of passion..." he rambled on, catching her eyes for a moment. "Do you have something you're passionate about? I'd love to hear about it." His words were genuine and kind. A bit unlike him but with good intentions none the less. With wide eyes and a solid smile he continued to look between the artwork and Shin. His true intention was to make her smile or perk her interest... but often times he was unsure if he even knew how to cheer someone up. I hope this works. he thought loudly.

Her hand upon his shoulder allowed for her to let her gaze drift to casually look over windows of the shops with little fear of running into anyone or thing, and she happily took in the lovely sights around them as they walked. The many trinkets and pictures strung up around them were beautiful, a riot of every color and shape, and Shin was as ever entranced.

Although he was very much real beneath her fingers, warmth a comforting thing, his voice took the girl by surprise, and she could only blink at him for quick second before realizing he was asking her about the tapestry in the window. "Oh." She offered softly as she stepped up, stalling her answer with a sweep of delicate fingers along her brow to smooth blush colored fringe.

"It is beautiful, and the intricacy is most impressive." She'd seen work by this artisan before, and the detail they managed to capture with needle and thread never ceased to amaze.

As he further went on to question her about her own passions she glanced down at him, a shadow of a smile flicking at the corners of her mouth. "Certainly. I'm an apt musician, and take great pleasure in literature and puzzles." The smile deepened, and she reached around to trace fingers along the length of the flute tucked at the small of her back. Drawing it out from the metallic cinch to show him. To say she was apt was being humble. She was gifted with the dizi, and making incredible progress with her newest instrument.

"How about you?" Perhaps he'd like to visit her at the Xia household. Share a cup of tea and a puzzle. It actually sounded like a very appealing idea.

Cais grinned. He saw her eyes light up for a moment, it was that spark which he enjoyed, the spark of an artist. "Music is wonderful." His voice said quietly as his eyes met hers. Floundering for a moment with his gaze he cleared his throat calmly, rubbing one of his hands hanging at his side methodically with the other in his thoughts. He smiled. "Unfortunately I'm not very musically inclined." He said with a laugh. "I bet you play beautifully.l" An awkward moment passed as he held back any other words, leaving it at that.

Clearing his throat, he continued. "I like reading, though don't really have time for it. With puzzles, well... " A hand found the back of his head nervously. "I can do them, just not on a conventional way, or more often than not my little sister comes along and finishes them for me." He regarded her again, letting his arm drop idly by his side.

Ignoring the world of beauty surrounding him, his thoughts went back to his passions, his crafts; it made him smile, the same spark she had but moments ago, igniting in his eyes. "Glass blowing is my main passion. Taking something as ordinary as sand and forming it into a beautiful decorative piece or practical use, such as a glass or vase." A spark in his face created a glow about him as he continued, never taking his eyes from her. "Though, aside from that, I love to explore. It might not seem like it but there are a lot of corners of this city that I doubt people have seen in a long time. The ocean also..." His eyes moved from here, glancing towards the ocean.

"Diving for new sands, new locations, it's also really therapeutic." Catching her eyes again he coughed lightly with a balled hand near his mouth. "Sorry to take off there for a minute. Should we keep looking?" He said, that slight nervousness coming back. He hadn't been alone with someone to talk to in a long while, aside from his family. It was exhilarating, though Cais had often feared he would come off awkwardly or seemingly sheltered. He was sure Shin wouldn't think poorly of him either way, but it did little to stop his natural reaction.

The floundering confused her but she would very graciously take his kind words, ducking her head in a small bow before slipping away the flute once again at the small of her back. "Thank you, perhaps someday I could play for you?" Or even teach him a thing or two where music was concerned. If he wanted, of course. She would certainly not pressure him.

She wanted to invite him to her home for tea, but she stilled her tongue for now and merely listened as he shared his own views on those hobbies already mentioned and then added a few of his own he was passionate about. A few of which were particularly interesting in that Shin knew next to nothing about them. "Glassblowing? You know how to make those beautiful multicolored orbs, glasses.." She trailed off, there was too much to list. "That is amazing, Cais." Did he have a gallery? A collection of his work somewhere where she might be able to admire? She hoped so.

Diving as well, this boy was turning out to be quite expectational and Shin was thrilled she'd gotten the chance to meet him at the festival. "Please do not apologize for that, I dare say you've got me mesmerized by your unique skill set." She chuckled softly, the back of her hand coming up to press lightly along her lips to quiet the sound

"Mm, Yes. Let's continue watching, though I think you've now captured my attention more then the stalls." She replaced her hand lightly upon his shoulder, allowing him to lead her once again. "You really do all of that? It all sounds very exciting." Considering her upbringing, her status, Shin had never dared wander off to explore beyond the familiar streets of the city.

"I would enjoy that a lot I think." He said with a smile. It seemed to spark something in her just as talking about his passions had done. It was good to see since she had seemed so down and Cais was determined to keep it that way.

His body warmed and he smiled a little bit, shaking his head. "It's really not that great." He said, rubbing the back of his head nervously. "There's some of my work mixed in with my families' in the storefront. The shop is part of the house so it's kind of small, but we sell a lot." He said, shaking his head a little. "It's never about money though, not for me at least." He said with an embarrassed smile.

"Thanks." He said sheepishly. Swallowing a little bit, he looked back at her as she pressed her hand on his shoulder. "Probably not as amazing as the things you can do. You're very gifted Shin." He said with a smile, watching her carefully. "Do you get out much?" He asked, watching her as they walked. Like her being interested in him, he began to wonder about her - realizing he didn't really know that much about her.
