Dris'rynne

Nicknames: Dris, Rynne, Rynni
Race: Shifter
Gender: Female
Description: Dris'rynne is clean cut girl whose bust is below average, and accented by her wider hips/thighs, giving her a pear shape. The shift is not so drastic that others would be able to notice from a distance, but up close it is obvious.

Dris is missing her right eye and as such is just getting around to living "normally", meaning she's learning to compensate for her blind spot.

Accessories: While Dris does have simple stud earrings in her ears, she also wears a bracelet around her wrist that was crafted by her younger sisters. It's made with more heart than focus, leaving it a little lackluster to some. They are young, after all, but their earnest effort made this gift more precious than any gemstone to Dris.

Romantic Status: Married to Teslaron

3 Base Traits: No-Nonsense, Dependable, Dauntless
Personality: Dris'rynne has a simplistic mindset in the sense that she tends to avoid drama, gossip, and any unnecessary activities that gets in the way of her day to day life. She has two younger sisters to care for while her parents travel so she really doesn't have time for leisurely activities. Dris prefers to get in, get it done, and leave. This mindset also applies to her eye; she would just prefer for people to ask about it instead of staring. That being said, she's a gruff girl with a very blunt mindset.

Since she's the eldest daughter, Dris'rynne has had to adapt into a reliable source for her parents over the years. She doesn't mind it at all; rather, she gets confidence from knowing that they trust her with so much. Dris'rynne would do almost anything to keep her family safe and happy; maybe even murder, if you catch her at the right moment. Even when she's particularly moody, Dris has never failed to care for an ailing sister, or travel across Tale in the middle of the night to make deliveries for her parents.

Dris'rynne is efficient to the point of fearless determination. Where most in her situation would have buckled under the weight of responsibility, Dris'rynne has developed an almost insane attitude towards situations that most would run from. She has never backed down from a fight (even when limbs have been broken), and when a thief tried to steal from her she allowed herself to be cut with a dagger just to tackle him to gain an advantage. While she doesn't seek out violence or danger, Dris'rynne isn't afraid to step into it by any means.

Interesting facts
-Dris'rynne knows the ins and outs of a weapon's forge, but her crafting skills are terrible
-While she may be able to work around fire, she's terrified of it.
-She's an obnoxiously peppy morning person. Dris'rynne is a very get up and go personality. Even before the morning hour she would be the one to wake up and prepping breakfast for her little sisters so they could start their day off right. But, instead of being a motherly type in the morning hours, she's sort of like a Drill sergeant who delights in a strict routine. So long as the morning works like clock work she's very pleased.
-She's easily embarrassed in matters of the heart.

History

Long before Dris'rynne was born a Shifter woman by the name of Briza was engaged to a charming young man with eyes like stars. Her family had been prepared to hand over the reigns of the family business to the lad since they had no son of their own, and he was to join a veritable clan of weapon smiths. To Briza this was to be the beginning to a perfect life; she would tame her gypsy love, and have him settle down into a life that would suit a future family.

The young woman had always been prone to melancholy, but this only intensified with each week her fiance spent away. He had gone with friends to ply their skills across Tendaji and had promised to return before their wedding. A last missive told of adventures in Zena, written in the hand writing of a friend, and then the letters stopped.

By the time news of his unfortunate death came to Briza the child he had given her had already begun to grow inside of her stomach. It was a hard blow, one that left the woman withdrawn for weeks, but with gentle coaxing from her family she was pulled back into productivity. When Dris'rynne was born all outward signs of the loss Briza felt inside were gone.

As a young single mother trying to hold a steady career, life was not easy for Briza, but she never once wished for anything less. She cherished her little wonder more than the moon itself. So when tragedy struck for the second time Briza thought she would lose it all.

The older Dris grew, the more she wanted to wield the weapons that her family crafted. Of course, she was always shooed out of the forge before she could get too grabby. "You'll hurt yourself!" If anything, it just made Dris more curious than ever to get her hands on something. During the late hours of the evening the little youngling snuck in with a few friends to have a look around. Her mother assumed she was playing in the trees; if only she had known. The younglings took up a weapon each and after admiring the craftsmanship, each was keen to test their might against each other. Of course, young arms wielding heavy weaponry, especially when one happened to be a heated poker that had been used to stoke the fire. While the embers had died, the metal still retained it's heat, as it had only been used an hour earlier. Each obtained a few nicks, but for the most part they couldn't lift the weapons far enough of the ground to do much damage. Dris had taken a dagger, her friend the poker and they had a duel. A friendly fight that ended in horrified screaming when Dris tried to dodge the poker, and took it in the eye.

Her grandfather was the first to arrive, and as he bellowed for the other younglings to go back home Briza ran to her daughter. The two couldn't get to a healer faster enough to do anything about it. While the poker hadn't pierced the eye completely, enough damage had been done to warrant it's removal, and the healer did his best to mend the burnt flesh that had been cut around by the pokers sharp edge.

It took months for Dris'rynne to heal enough so that she could rise out of bed. Not only did the pain of her injuries keep her inside, but the subsequent infections riddled her tiny body with illness. The entire time the healer's son, a merchant named Niyori, ran errands between his father and Briza so as to keep her daughter safe. Somewhere along the line his prescence in their home had become second nature, his fatherly affection for Dris as inviting as the bedtime stories he told, and a love for the healer's son blossomed in Briza's chest.

The accident did nothing to dampen Dris'rynne's spirit. Though the girl worried over her appearance, especially as other younglings can be cruel in their blunt observations, she grew to see it as a badge of pride. Her grandfather drilled into her head that she was lucky to have survived the event, and scars were the medals of true victors. His pride in her lessened the pain that remained inside of her heart even as the physical faded away. While Briza was keen to keep her daughter away from the forge for good, her grandfather encouraged it. In order to overcome ones fears they had to face them, and whatever reluctance Dris held in going back into the forge melted away with each task her grandfather asked her to perform.

Years have gone by since then. Dris'rynne now has two rambunctious little sisters who keep her on her toes. Since Niyani is a traveling merchant it suited him well to meld his skills in with that of Briza's family, and the two often go on long trips to sell their wares. At first Briza intended to stay behind, but upon seeing her mothers distress at allowing yet another love go off into the world Dris'rynne volunteered to be her sisters caretaker. She knows that her time is well upon her to have her own journey, so it won't harm her to stick around for a while longer.

Relationships

Family

Briza : Shifter : Mother - An insecure woman with a worrying heart, Dris' mother is on edge constantly. These days she's calmed a little more on the exterior, but the wrong phrase or action can send her off.
Niyani : Shifter : Step-father - Niyani is a patient man, and the only father Dris has ever known. He's a good partner for her mother, a wonderful father, and someone that the young woman holds very dear.
Sisters : Shifter : Younglings (Twins) - They will be offered as playermade adoptables and the personalities will be up to the players to decide. Dris'rynne is their acting maternal figure, though, and they were the ones who made a bracelet she rarely takes off.

Talisia: Shifter/Ice : Half sister - Apparently her father, Kaleo, wasn't as dead as everyone thought.
Ciaran (goes by Kian now): Shifter/Ice : Half brother - Is he dead? Is he missing? Where's Waldo?
Katori: Shifter/Ice : Niece
Taaru: Shifter/Ice : Nephew

Prentice Solo 1 - Meta Aftermath

Dris'rynne kicked at a stone in her path with a murmuring grumble. Her slender, yet calloused, hands came up from around her sides to rub at her biceps. Sauti just couldn't be warm for more than two minutes without a gust blowing through and chilling her to the bone. They had been on their return trip for a few days now, and with Talisia resting in camp with Callum, Dris'rynne had set off to explore.

She sure as hell didn't plan on returning to Sauti any time soon, so she might as well get a good feel for it. There was a certain charm about the place, but it was tainted. Every little noise might as well have been an Alkidike ambush for Dris. She jumped up when a few sandscale fluttered away from a little pool, hidden in the crags, and had been jumpy ever since. Logically she knew that hating all of the Alkidike for the actions of a single group was wrong, but if they had taught them tolerance as children then this wouldn't be an issue!

"Stupid giant bug women." It was as close to a racial slur as she had ever gotten, and Dris didn't even feel bad for it. They were terrible! She had been assisting in the med tents during the entire skirmish, so she had seen first hand how terrible they really were. Dozens pouring in with bleeding wounds...crying for lost family members...sobbing through the pain...one Leaf man had even held onto her hand as he slipped away. His wounds were just too deep. Dris'rynne had bound a large whole in his hip herself, but within moments the bandages were soaked through with blood. "Naila...Naila, carry me home..."

She didn't know who Naila was. Dris'rynne wouldn't even know where to start looking to tell Naila that he had passed. Even if she had decided to try, what could she say? She didn't even know his name! Sitting herself down ontop of a large, jagged stone, the young shifter craned her head to look into the sky above. The same stars that shone over Jauhar watched her now, and somewhere up there, was the Goddess.

"Where do I go from here?" She mused. "Grandfather says that the Alkidike are evil, heartless creatures...but some of their kind fought with us. He said that the Oban were slavers to the core, but Shalvesta was nice. Has everything he said been a lie?" Surely if the other tribes were this awful her parents wouldn't leave Jauhar to trade with them as often as they did. Her mother would have had a panic attack if the thought was even mentioned, were that the case. Sighing, Dris'rynne ran a hadn through her soft hair and frowned. When she pulled it away she found flakes of dried blood in her palm. Even when she wiped it away, the bits had lodged themselves under her nails and refused to leave.

The worst part was that it wasn't her blood. It was a patients. Maybe they lived, maybe they died; she would never know. She had seen enough wounded Alkidike to know that they bled red, the same as anyone else. So what made them so evil?

"Ugh, I need some sleep." Thinking too much always put her in a foul mood. Dris'rynne stood, looking one last time to the moon before making her way back to camp. Whatever was wrong with the world wasn't her concern; finding her family was. They were traveling in Tale at the moment, and someone needed to be there to guide them home.

Prentice Solo 2 - False Flattery

Dris'rynne was out of breath by the time she found a little cave large enough to hide in. Her eye was wild with fright, darting to and fro just to check out her surroundings. Like an insect, she pressed her body as close to the stone as possible, limbs akimbo. For a moment all was still except for her breathing, but even that died once a pair of feet came into sight.

The cave was so low to the ground that anything above the calf was cut off. Dris'rynne could barely make out what they were saying above the thrum of her own heart beat. "...come on, I just wanted to talk! I don't smell or nothin', do I?" A masculine voice called out, but when no reply came he gave into a sigh. The bare feet shuffled around in the dirt before her pursuer gave up.

It wasn't until a few good, solid moments later that she allowed herself to relax. Sauti as HORRIBLE. They had passed a village for supplies, and all eyes had turned their way. It wasn't as if she was the only shifter in their group...so why was she getting so much attention?! This was the third person that day to openly pursue her, and Dris'rynne didn't think her heart could take much more of it. Words like 'delicate', 'beautiful', and 'luscious' were being tossed around so often that if they were stones she could have built a house! It was terrifying! One man had even smacked her behind. She had returned the favor by slugging him in the face. Needless to say, she had assumed the others would take the hint and back off.

Not a chance.

Her little hidey hole was cramped, but Dris wasn't sure she wanted to ever come out. Maybe she should just stay until Talisia or Callum found her. Wrapping her arms around her knees, she hunkered down and placed her forehead against the stone at her front. Why were they so...so...persistent? Didn't they see anyone else that struck their fancy? Or maybe they were just making fun of her? Dris'rynne's cheeks burned so hot that she buried them in her hands. That's what she feared the most; that the compliments were only being given to her on some kind of dare. It's what the boys in her village had done. 'See if you can get a kiss from one eye Dris'.

But it...in a strange way it made her feel good. So long as she never HEARD their jeers, they weren't really harmful, right? It was still flattery and for a small amount of time she felt like a real girl. A pretty girl that someone was actually interested in.

Too bad it wouldn't last. She wouldn't be able to return to that village ever again. And for that reason alone she stayed in her cave until her knees ached and she was forced to return to camp.

Prentice Solo 3 - Hello from the Other Side

A din had settled over the rainforest, bringing with it the sort of peace only those native to Jauhar would understand. The trees were still very much alive with activity, but they might as well have been dead for all Dris'rynne heard. She sat atop the roof of her grandfather's forge, listening for the not so distant cries of her mother. The young girl brought her knees up to her chest, wrapped her calloused hands around them and held herself tight. What was going to happen now? The uncertainty of it all killed her. Still yet she had not allowed herself to cry, and the effort of holding back her emotions was more draining than allowing them to run wild.

Her eyes traveled up through the trees, farther up than even her own home in search of the moon. She couldn't see it, not with the thick leaf cover in the way, but Dris'rynne thought she could feel it. The myriad fungi brought the kind of lighted comfort that she needed at the moment. It helped her to imagine the moon, though with a definitively less neon feel.

"Kaleo." She spoke on a whisper. That was his name. Her father's name. It felt so strange on her tongue and yet, solid. As if forgotten pieces to a long neglected puzzle were finally being reunited. The man who had impregnated her mother then left for Zena, never to know what he left behind was named Kaleo.

There wasn't much she could guess about him. Dris'rynne had questions, but they wouldn't help to comfort her so she hadn't asked any to Talisia. Her sister. What did he look like? Did she look like him at all? What were his favorite foods, what did he smell like, how did he...? Dris'rynne bit her lower lip and inhaled slowly. The tears had started again, but she would not allow them to fall. It wasn't right for her to grieve over a man she had never met! What would be the point in it? Kaleo was long dead, probably buried under ten feet of Zena snow without a single care over the daughter he would never know. Niyani was her father, her real father, and that's all that mattered.

Then the rains started. A slow, thick drizzle fell atop her as she sat. It covered her in a blanket of water, soaking through her thin clothes, but Dris'rynne didn't mind. After dwelling in the humid heat one learned how to take pleasure in rain. It helped to calm the burning on her face, and what few tears managed to seep out could blend in.

"Did you like rain?" The question was quiet and soft; completely vulnerable and not at all like her. The more she spoke the louder she became until there was an almost bite to her words. "It's all your fault. If you hadn't left in the first place then you wouldn't have been taken away from her. Mother needed you, but you...you just needed yourself." Even as she said it Dris'rynne regretted it. Kaleo was dead, and there should be some semblance of respect for that. She also knew that he likely love her, had gotten trapped and was unable to remember. Talisia had told her that much. Dris'rynne wiped a swatch of hair away from her eye and leaned back until she was stretched out along the angled roof. The rain was coming in lighter now; a sure sign it would end quickly enough.

Dris wondered if his family had ever tried to contact her mother, perhaps even tried to get to know the child he sired and Briza had just shut them out. Maybe they had never even tried.

But she had too. Not just for herself, but for her younger siblings. All four of them. Someone had to find out who Kaleo was before and after he left Jauhar. Someone had to be the bigger person, the one to shield the rest from the backlash of this dramatic storm and as always, it was her. Dris'rynne sat up with a determined grimace. It wasn't going to be easy; burying everything back into it's hole again, but she had to try.

She had no right to grieve for Kaleo, but her mother and Talisia did. "I have to do what I can to help. They're family and like it or not, we're all connected now. No sense in hiding that." Picking herself up, Dris'rynne carefully padded to the side of the roof and swung herself down to the ground. She brushed back her tears with the palm of her hand, taking a few minutes to compose herself before taking a deep breath.

Niyani wanted to go to Oba? Then they would go to Oba. They would go to Oba to clear the air, and when she returned Dris'rynne would set things right. Her mother would come to see that it wasn't Kaleo's fault, accept the fact that he was with another, and move on. If Briza stalled her life any longer than she already had she would waste away in her depression. Dris'rynne couldn't allow that. She loved her mother dearly, but Briza was selfish in her pain. She had children, two young girls, that needed a mother to watch over them. At least their family was whole; a true mother and father. If she could keep that from being tainted then maybe she could try to put this Kaleo business behind her.

And that's when it hit her.

Maybe Dris'rynne wasn't anything like either of her parents.

Briza was an anxious weapon's crafter who needed a man in her life to secure her. Kaleo was apparently a free roaming gypsy. She was neither of those things. Dris'rynne had learned to stand on her own two feet, and had long since dug her roots deep into Jauhar. She was tone deaf, couldn't dance if she tried and all of her attempts at smithing ended in ruin. All either one had gifted her with was life. Even Briza, in all her years of mothering, hadn't played nearly as big of a role in her life as her step-father had. More often than not she would have been confined to her bed in another fit of melancholy, leaving Dris'rynne to watch over herself. She hadn't been neglectful, not by choice, but she couldn't help being bitter towards the woman for it.

Her mother was a fool and her father had been a wastrel.

But Dris'rynne...Dris'rynne wasn't so weak. She was going to Oba with Niyani and Talisia, coming home and sealing it all away so that she could live.

Ignorance may have been bliss, but denial was the only way to survive.

Prentice Class Affinity Solo

For as long as Dris'rynne could remember she had been the caretaker for her sisters. They required near constant supervision as they were prone to pranks, but all in all she couldn't say she was unhappy. To her, it was as if they had been her own children instead of her sisters. Watching them now, learning to climb the thick vine ladders up to their canopied home, was rewarding. It was the one thing that could bring her peace in these troubled times.

After that bit with the extremists Dris'rynne had been on edge. Arguably, so was most of Jauhar, since it seemed to be ground zero for more than a few battles. She spent more time with her sisters than ever before, and fussed when they tried to go somewhere without her. What little freedom she had allowed them was being sapped away, much to their chagrin. Now that she was officially traveling to Oba Dris'rynne couldn't sleep. The news about her father, traveling with Talisia and Niyani, leaving her mother alone with the twins...it was enough to make her sick. How could she trust Briza to keep them safe when she couldn't even keep herself from trouble?

When Briza had birthed the twins Niyani had been away, and Dris'rynne had feared leaving her mother to get help. The labor had gone quickly; much too quickly for a doe eyed child to comprehend. She had remembered Niyani's father teaching her mother how mix certain herbs in order to sooth the pain in Dris'rynne's eye socket when the accident had occurred. While her mother had cried through it, Dris'rynne had clumsily scoured their house and finally crafted her version of the concoction. Briza liked to say the shock of her daughter's clear thinking was the reason the twins had really been born. It had loosened her muscles, then pop, here came the twins. After that Dris'rynne had gone to retrieve her step-grandfather so that he could take over. He let her help check the babies over, and then while he tended to her mother, he allowed her to hold one of her sisters.

It was love at first sight. Dris had never seen something so sweet, even if the babe's face was puckered scarlet from all of her previous caterwauling. The thought of dropping such a precious bundle had the young girl scrambling for a seat, and awkwardly she climbed into it before setting her sister on her lap, careful to hold her head just the right way. When Niyani returned the man had to make room for Dris'rynne to sit beside him every time he held one or both of the twins. She insisted on helping anyway she could, all except for poop duty. No one volunteered for poop duty.

Shortly after Briza's father had come to visit, and while his wife was with their daughter, the older smith took his granddaughter aside for a little chat. He was a burly man, even then, with a beard large enough to hide several berries and biceps the size of large branches. "Big sister, huh? I was the oldest in my bunch too, and let me tell you, it's not going to be easy." She watched as he brought a pipe out of his side satchel, and began to light it. "They'll test your patience, ruin everything you ever wanted to keep special, and piss on your dreams. But, in the end, you'll not want it any other way." Seeing how confused she was, he had reached over to ruffled her hair with a large, calloused hand. "It's going to be your job to protect them. Your mother can't do it and Niyani's going to be traveling a lot. Those girls are your responsibility from now on; see that they make it to adulthood."

It had been a large task for such a small girl. She had taken to spending more time in her grandfather's forge, learning the ins and outs of various weapons. On the other hand, she also spent as much time with Niyani's father in his medical clinic. Her nurturing side begged for a future profession in healing, but Dris'rynne's sense of justice wouldn't allow it. She would never be able to sit back while battles raged on without her. Even as a child, when a neighbors radaku had threatened her sisters, Dris'rynne had smacked the creature upside the head with a log. It had resulted in being tackled and ultimately bitten on her forearm, but a lesson had been learned.

Briza would never be able to protect them like she could, and Niyani was never around. It wasn't his fault; someone had to do it, and he fussed over them when he returned. When he did Dris'rynne would go off on her own and train. Every morning, some hours during the day and at night after the girls went to bed; it was a near constant routine that left her body sore. Most was simple hand to hand combat drills, but occasionally she would sneak a weapon away from the forge to practice with herself.

Something had clicked in Dris'rynne during those years. She developed a very obvious soft spot for for the girls, one that extended to other children as well. Briza had even suggested more than once that she take up a career as a midwife, and Dris'rynne had to admit, it didn't sound terrible. Sometimes she would volunteer to help Niyani's father in his clinic, and would watch as mother's brought their children to see the healer. There was a fine line in that; the Dris'rynne that could nurture, and the one that wished nothing more than than to seek vengeance for the innocents who were dragged in. Once her patience had been tested with a man came in with his wife, claiming she had fallen from the tree when Dris'rynne knew darn well how she had gotten those bruises. Her step-grandfather had stopped her then; It's not our place to fix problems outside the clinic. That woman had a child at home, a young infant, and Dris'rynne hadn't been able to sleep well for weeks after because of it. What if he did it again?

So when his wife returned with the babe, her left eye swollen shut, Dris'rynne left. She searched for the husband, and when she found his familiar face in the crowd she wasted no time in punching him in the septum. Her years of hidden training had given her quite the left hook; as could be seen when he was knocked flat on his butt in the dirt. He didn't stay long, and a fist fight erupted. It had taken several men to pull her away, and several more to get her to go home. Briza had been furious; did she want to get killed?!

But Briza's father had taken notice. He watched her, measured her worth as the months dragged on, and before her trip to Oba the old man pulled her aside. "You're not healer, girl; never will be, not with that fury. You keep it bottled up like that and you'll end up hurting those girls. You want to serve, to do something good? Make the world better? Then take these."

In her hands he had placed twin blades; as glorious and magnificent any she had ever seen. "How did you...when did you make these? I've been in and out of the forge for weeks but I never..." Taking them in hand, she turned the blades until they caught the neon light of Jauhar's ever present fungi. They felt heavy, and the sharpened edge was frightening, but it felt right.

She was no merchant, like Niyani.

Nor a smith like her mother and grandfather.

Nor a healer, like her step-grandfather.

He saved so many lives, and even brought life into the world. Were it not for him she wouldn't be alive this very day.But she knew that wouldn't truly save anyone. "I can't wield these. I have a blind spot, and I can't keep them in the house, not with the girls around. What if they-"

"I made them for you, Rynni." He looked her in the eye, his beard barely masking a deadly serious expression. "Spent a long time gathering the right stuff from all over Tendaji; you'll find no finer blade anywhere else. Everyone in our family has had the potential to do something about the world, but as much as I hate it, we haven't done jack about it. You're meant for more than a babysitter; and one day you'll see that."

Dual blades. He wanted her to wield dual blades in battle and overcome her own insecurities to do so. It was intimidating to be sure, but not unwelcome. "...Thank you, grandfather. But...could you not tell mom?"

"Gods, like I was ever going to. I'm not ready to kick it just yet."
