"Are you really so surprised she would say something? She seems like a sharp shooter." It had certainly taken Dris by surprise, but she hardly knew the woman; Tes should have had some inkling that she would say something, especially given how apparently obvious their behavior had been.
Was he actually blushing? That was a good healthy flush spreading up his cheeks, and fanning over his ears; one that Dris'rynne hadn't seen before. He may not have been embarrassed, but he was certainly getting flustered, so something about this conversation had to be striking a nerve, which meant only good things, right?
"I am mean, everyone says so." The boys in Jauhar, the girls in Jauhar, hirelings in Oba, her own sisters..."But I never wanted to be mean to you. You're annoying and you get under my skin, but there's something kind of charming about that." Her eye went down to their intertwined hands, her own fingers flexing instinctively, moving closer to cup around his own. She did remember coming to his home; there was scant a time that involved Tes that she couldn't remember.
Her skin felt warm, and she was sure that she sported a nice, dusky flush when he pulled her close. "Nows as good a time as any, isn't it?" He loved her. Teslaron loved her. She had never felt as loved and delicately precious as she did when he put his lips to her nose, the urge to actually kiss him stronger than ever-
And then it was gone. She scrunched up her nose, instinctively moving one of her hands up to her mouth. Dris'rynne playfully popped him on the bicep and shooed him out of the room, "Go on then, get back to Malila. I'll be back once I've cleaned up."

As a matter of fact, he was surprised, not because Malila had said anything that occurred to her to say. Teslaron was well aware that the Matori woman had no qualms about speaking her mind. But he hadn't- still didn't expect that she'd care enough to say anything in this regard. And he probably assumed that anything she did say wasn't likely to win him any favors. But... her interference turned out better than he expected.
For so long, it'd felt like saying anything to Dris'rynne on the matter just gave her an open opportunity to rebuff him, and there wasn't much need to add fuel to that fire, in his opinion. At least not when he was content enough to go on like they were. Were there better options? Of course-
They could've cleared it all up like they had just now.
But that wasn't what he'd thought would happen. He'd expected worse. In the aftermath of Dris puking up her stomach, somehow he'd said he loved her, and she hadn't taken it poorly. Teslaron didn't really understand how this process worked, but he decided it wasn't worth complaining over. Instead, he beamed, and laughed, and slipped from the room.
Malila leaned against the wall on the other side of the threshold. When Tes blinked at her in confusion, then frowned at her for her very apparent eavesdropping, she just shrugged. "What?" She demanded tartly. "You left me alone in an unfamiliar place, and I got bored. What did you expect me to do? Sit quietly and wait for you?"
Tes graoned, snatched up her arm, and tugged her back down the hallway. "Don't be long, Dris'rynne!"

She tried not to roll her eye, but the urge was just too strong. Teslaron was absolutely incorrigible, though she was realizing that was one of the many reasons she loved him. There was no doubt that a life with him with be far from boring, which at one time would have intimidated her, but now she was just happy to have the chance.
Of course she heard every word being said, seeing as the two waterlings weren't that far the room she was still in. The knowledge that they had been spied on, that her private confession had been made somewhat public, brought a fresh wash of color to her cheeks. At least you're not crying in the street again. Dris'rynne supposed when compared to that spectacle having her feelings heard by one person didn't seem like such a big deal.
Dris'rynne didn't dally; she rinsed out her mouth, cleaned up her teeth and washed her face off as best she could. She still looked pitiful, in her opinion; bags under her eyes, a sickly pallor to her skin, but Dris'rynne supposed this was as good as it was going to get until her children saw fit to 'move out'.
When she came back to the living area her eyes surveyed the room, landing on the cup of tea she had abandoned. "Is it still warm?"

"Weeeelp," Malila stretched her arms over her head as she and Tes reentered the living room and stepped as casually as possible in the direction of the exit. "I should probably be on my way." She cast a squinty-eyed glance to her own abandoned and virtually untouched teacup and shrugged. "Ya'll seem like you got a lot going on, and I'm not gonna hang around and ruin it for you. Besides, you keep glowering at me like I've done something wrong, and I weirdly don't feel too welcome."
Teslaron trailed after her with a quiet groan and a shake of his head. "I'm not glowering at you," he retorted. "And I do want you here. Just... there's a lot going on. Dris is getting near the end of this thing, so I know she's not feeling at her best, and I probably should have waited to invite you until after-"
"Oh, but then we'd have these little monsters ruling our lives, and that wouldn't have been a good time, either..."
Lila's arm snaked out to wrap around his neck. "Quit yer prattling, dummy. I'm glad I got to meet her, glad I got to be here this time, and there'll be other chances in the future. S'not like I'm going anywhere, and I don't expect you are neither." When Dris'rynne joined them a moment later, Lila turned to the other woman and dipped her head 'politely.' "Thanks for having me over. It was nice meeting you and your, uh... kids. And I hope to see more of you sometime soon."
Tes slunk to Dris' side and looped an arm about her waist. "If it's not to your satisfaction, my Goddess, I'll warm it for you." He grinned.

"Come by anytime you like." She wished that their first meeting could have gone a little smoother, but it wasn't as if Malila wouldn't understand. Dris'rynne just hoped that the waterling's pregnancy went a lot easier than her own.
Instead of reaching for the teacup, Dris'rynne leaned against Tes, moving her hand to place it atop his own. When she felt more movement in her stomach, she moved them both, guiding his palm so that it lay over the section of flesh where one of her little ones seemed content with using her innards as a punching bag.
"I'm sure you could, but...maybe after they've calmed down and I've had a nap?" Dris was aware that that was far from the 'sexiest' statement she could have said in the moment, but she could save those embarrassing lines for after a few z's.

Malila knew when she'd fulfilled her purpose in this household. Ah, maybe it wasn't what those two had thought or intended, but she personally felt a little sense of accomplishment of her own. It worked out best for all of them, really. Teslaron would be happier, surely, and when the time came, she might feel comfortable enough to leave her own kid in their hands. Still, in this moment, she almost felt like she was intruding. She saw herself out, and clicked the door shut as she went.
When Dris' hand caught his, Teslaron did not initially think anything of it. In fact, if he had to guess what she was doing, he'd probably say that she was plucking his hand up to flick it off of her. So when his open palm brushed the curve of her belly and was promptly assaulted, he jumped with a soft gasp. "Oh. They're moving."
And wouldn't it just be horrible to be on the receiving end of that. Kick in the kidney, anyone? "Well, they feel healthy, at least." So that was always good.
"Anything you'd like, Sky Princess," Tes agreed with a dusting of his lips to her cheek. It occurred to him to pick her up and carry her to bed, since she did look as though she needed a nap and it wouldn't hurt anyone if he happened to be there, at her side, when she awoke. But even that much seemed to just be asking for trouble. So he tugged her along instead, and collected the teacup from the coffee table as he went. Just in case.
