Teslaron was not accustomed with the general skill and forethought that went into actual combat. He could tolerate and endure pain, so wasn't necessarily afraid of being hit (not that he had any great desire to be). But that didn't excuse this woman, who he'd had an unfortunate meeting with on the road that led to these, less than favorable results. He found himself sitting in the dirt, glowering up at her and hesitantly probing at his shoulder with the tips of his fingers.
"You needn't have been so violent," he complained stiffly. It didn't matter that he'd been trying to steal from her. He hadn't succeeded, so it hardly seemed like anything worth violent retribution over.
After news of disturbing 'happenings' possibly occurring in his home, Tes had decided (thoughtlessly, sporadically) that he needed to return to Oba. When he'd left, he'd had a goal that he wanted to achieve, but any such thing was useless if there was no one to bring his treasure home too. Terrified, Teslaron had fled from his guard. Probably a terrible move, but in the moment, it seemed brilliant. That was nearly a week ago now. His emotions had quieted since then, and his pace slowed.
This woman (and her fists) managed to reinvigorate a sense of urgency. "If you're going to pick a fight, you owe me an apology." For having the wherewithal not to let thievery go unpunished, obviously.

Dris'rynne had no tolerance for thievery.
If one couldn't earn their keep through respectable means then they should live a more modest lifestyle. This water born wretch was far more ambitious than he had any right to be, and had picked on the wrong shifter. "Oh shut it." She snapped. Just looking at him had her blood on edge. Dris'rynne thought about clipping him on the back of the head for good measure, but graciously decided against it.
Dris'rynne let out a bark of harsh, surprised laughter, "Me? Give you an apology? When you've done something to actually warrant one you'll have one."

Rude. Teslaron's brow pinched, his bottom lip jutting out with a soft huff. He probably should've realized after their scuffle that she was clearly displeased and probably wouldn't take well to his demands for anything. Since he'd ended up on he ground with nothing to show for it, though, Tes might have expected a slightly more forgiving mood. Such was not the case. And while he might have been reasonably amicable initially, any such inclination drained almost immediately.
"You bled me," he accused irritably, pointing to his shoulder and the dark, ripped, wet-stained cloth that hung from it. "And since I didn't actually do anything to you, there was no need for any such thing. You owe me," Teslaron insisted.

And I'll do it again if you don't shut your mouth. It was hard not to pull her weapons on the cretin, but Dris'rynne had some semblance of self control, no matter how tiny it may have been in that moment. She didn't want to maim him, but spirits above, if he didn't shut up...
As a snappy response built up in her tongue, Dris'rynne's tipped ears picked up movement around them. She furrowed her brow, blatantly ignoring the water male for the moment. A dark shape dodged out from behind a stone, diving for another before she could make out the shape. She knew enough to wager that the creature was small, but those noises...It wasn't alone.
"Get up," Dris'rynne hissed.

What right did this woman have to look so irrevocably annoyed? She was not injured. Against Tes' attempts, she still had all of her belongings. And yes, perhaps this wasn't exactly the type of introduction most people enjoyed, but at least it kept things interesting. Neither of them were all the worse for wear for it, though Teslaron did feel ample need to complain about the shallow gash he'd received at her hand. If anyone should be annoyed here, it was most certainly him.
He shot the Shifter woman a narrow-eyed glower at her commands. He really didn't especially want to be on the ground, but somehow, being ordered not to be dampened that mood a bit. Still, his experiences with being at people's feet weren't exactly pleasant. With a stiff huff, he rose from the ground and dusted himself off. "If this is just the lead-in to getting another punch in, you might as well save your energy for-"
His gaze left her and trailed instead after the sweeping crystal tail of- "A perzi," Tes grunted as the thing hissed at him. Likely feral if the rough, coarseness of its skin, swollen shut eye, and the nicks in its ears were any indication. He didn't exactly dislike most animals, but anything that crouched and hissed and lashed its tail at him was clearly in a right foul mood. He scoffed and ignored it before turning back to the woman. It was just one creature, hardly worth commentary. When he tried to say as much to her, he spotted another standing behind them. Two more near a stone not a handful of paces away. All of them had their ears pinned back and their teeth bared. Tes suspected there were others he couldn't see, surrounding them, and-
Did perzi eat Earthlings?
Surely not. They were tiny and even in a pack, couldn't hope to take down two fully-grown and mostly trained adults. Teslaron's fingers slipped to the small holster he had against his thigh for his blades. Tiny or not, they looked angry, more so than the Shifter woman, and he wasn't about to get a disease from letting some feral cat sink its claws into him.

"A what?" Her voice was barely above a murmur as she looked at the creature. She hadn't become too friendly with Oba's wildlife during her stay, so it took her a moment to recognize the beast. The thing that hissed at him looked mangy at best; certainly not something she wanted to get too close to.
One, two, three...four.. Dris'rynne's eye traveled over the surrounding area, noting two darker shapes that seemed to melt with the shadowed stone. Had it not been for their vermilion crystallized tails she might have passed them by. Their numbers were growing, she noted with dismay.
She barely caught sight of one of the beasts as it launched it self at Tes. If the thing hadn't yowled as if it were the one being attacked, and not the other way around she may never have noticed. The shifter drew her blade, stepping forward just enough so that she could bat the feline away with he flat of her blade. Despite the creature's small stature, it's naked skin held muscle and the impact put an ache in her arm.
"Why are they attacking us?" Dris'rynne may have posed it as a question, but she spoke it like a demand. There was no time for niceties when vile little heathens wanted to sink their dirty claws into her hide.

Teslaron likely could've anticipated that one of the feline creatures would actually initiate assault. He might have even bee prepared for it. Maybe he wasn't especially trained in any combat arts, but neither was he a coward, and he was not about to let a tiny, mangy animal fling itself at him and do nothing about it. he stepped forward, dragging his dagger from it's clip, and-
The Shifter's sword was between him and his perzi aggressor. Tes stilled, blinked. He gaze followed the feline as it crashed back to the ground, clearly as surprised as Tes was himself. It shook itself and hissed. From there, he should have thanked her. It wasn't as if he expected any sort of protection from her. Instead, he shrugged it away as a warrior's impulse. "Do I look like I keep a compendium of reasons perzai attack travelers?" He quirked her a teasing grin. "I suppose I might've stolen one from someone not paying enough attention..."
Still grinning, he flicked his blade up from its sheath, caught it between two fingers and snapped it out at the feline. His intent, of course, was to actually hit the creature. Once, right between the eyes. Suave, smooth, easy as a Tale spring day.
Unfortunately, the perzi had other ideas.
It careened to the side, the thick, solid crystal at the tip of its tail hitting Tes' knife and knocking it away. There was a brief interim where he did nothing but stare at it, dumbfounded. The moment ended with the perzi's yowl and Teslaron's surprised gasp as he took a half-step back. Only a half step, because the heel of his foot collided with another of the mangy beasts immediately behind him. It was large enough and surprising enough that he couldn't steady himself in time. With a garbled half curse, "Shhht-" he found himself on his back.
There was significantly more cat-screeching after that.

Fluffesu 805 words for Dris (this is Moose keeping track lol) Dris'rynne might have felt remorse for striking the perzi if they hadn't been both aggressive and ugly.
However, she rethought that stance once Tes opened his mouth to speak. If Dris'rynne thought the animals intelligent enough she would have apologized, stepped aside, and played ignorant to his screams while the perzi maimed him.
Heck, she might have even been impressed with his knife play had he actually managed to hit anything. Dris'rynne didn't even hide her groan; she raised her hand, which still cupped the hilt of one blade, and buried her face behind it. Gods' give me patience. As much as she tried to rationalize it away as a bad shot, Dris'rynne kept returning to the sheer fact that a wild beast had knocked his blade away! How useless could he get?!
She was so distracted by the pathetic scene before her that the shifter didn't notice the approaching perzi behind her. Dris'rynne did, however, let out a very loud shriek when the beast launched itself at her, digging it's putrid claws into her shoulders. She twisted, trying her best to dislodge it, but when another attacked her leg Dris found herself at a cross roads. Why anyone would think to keep these things as pets was beyond her!
Dropping one of her blades to the ground, Dris'rynne reached down for her leg to pry the creature off, but the feline moved before she could grab it. Scratches covered her calf, as well as several dubious bite wounds. More pressing was the perzi using her spine as a ladder. It had moved up to her shoulder, focusing it's attention on maiming her blind side. This one she did manage to grab, and when she did Dris'rynne pried it off with such force that a bit of skin came with it's claws. The pain was only temporary; the satisfaction of flinging it as far as she could was more lasting.
"Are you- why are you on the ground?!"
Maybe if she had been watching Dris'rynne would have known, but for all intensive purposes he might as well have been relaxing.

There were an unfortunate amount of teeth and claws and tails to go around from that point forward. After hitting the ground, Tes became aware of little else. The perzi that tripped him had been startled enough by his fall that it deemed the Water man an immediate and violent threat. If it hadn't planned on attacking him before, it did now. And Teslaron was quick to learn that a well-muscled, feral creature that came up to his mid-thigh in height was not. Light. It landed on his chest with the full weight of its body, and bit into an unsuspecting crumple of his shirt. Another behind him took particular offense to his hair and, more notably, his ear.
He yelped and twisted, rolling to his side and blindly fumbling out with one arm to stuff the perzi in his immediate vision into the dirt. It hissed and twisted faster than he was prepared for, and half an instant later, raked its claws down his face, from (thankfully) just beneath his eye to the corner of his mouth.
"You little fuc-!" It didn't immediately register what had just happened, and sometime in the interim one of the critters had managed to scurry out of his reach. The other did not, and Tes lurched sloppily for it from his position on the ground.
He caught it by the tail and yanked downward, earning a yowl and a whole slew of writhing scratch-bites to the limb that held it. Under normal circumstances he might have (and probably should have, for all the damage it was still doing) let it go. But his face hurt, and it somehow seemed fair to impose something similar on the creature that started it. With a grunt, he shoved himself to his feet, dragging his still-squirming captive with him by its tail.
Tes huffed as he shot the Shifter a look. "I wasn't just down there by my own choice," he informed her briskly. "This thing put me there." He gave it a shake, and it screech-spat in response. "Hey, you ever tasted kit-skin?" He became aware that he was panting when he couldn't say any more than that without taking a breath. "It's oily, but-" Breathe. "Y'know, if you cook it right, it's not bad." He decided it wasn't him being nice to the woman, so much as he was being mean to this. Thing. And that somehow, made it all the more acceptable.

The tiniest part of Dris'rynne didn't want to gut these mongrels simply because of her half-sister. If Talisia found out about this she would give Dris 'the look'; that stare that spoke of nothing but disappointment and sadness. As an older sister she hated that look most of all, which meant as much as she wanted to beat the little bugger who kept climbing up her calf, Dris'rynne had to settle for bopping it on the head with the hilt of her blade.
The shifter bounced from one foot to the other, shifting and twisting around the scrambling hoard just so they would stop climbing on her like a friggin' tree! In her efforts she didn't see the crimson perzi that wriggled it's rump before pouncing on her chest from atop a high rock. It landed atop her bosom, sinking it's claws into the material of her top while it's fore-paw came up to thwack her across the face.
Dris'rynne let out a string of curses even the foulest of sailors wouldn't have repeated before dropping her blades. She scrambled to grab hold of it, though trying to get to the perzi's torso amidst a flurry of swiping paws was no small feat. Once she had it, however, there was no way to pull it away without getting her arms shredded. To her, however, that seemed a small price to pay in order to keep her remaining eye in tact.
By the time she had her self free, having flung the latest attacker from her, Dris'rynne was covered in sweat, blood, and perzi spittle. For a moment the creatures seemed content to just look at her and hiss; she hoped it was because she'd caused a good number of their kin to limp, but she also feared they were prepping for round two.
Breathing heavily, she turned to the matorian and quirked her brow. She didn't want to laugh; it was a completely involuntary thing, something that obviously wasn't directed towards him, but rather the ridiculousness of the situation. In her mind it sounded sharp, like most things that came from her mouth when tossed his way, but in reality it was light and feminine. A true laugh. "I'm sure we can wrangle up some fruits and a good wine to go with it."
The mere thought of them eating like nobility on stray perzi, bloodied and covered in scratches, only brought on more laughter. This time it was more subdued; just a silent little snort that shook her shoulders.

The herd was thinning.
When Teslaron had a free moment to glance to his surroundings that wasn't immediately interrupted by being assaulted (by anything more than the creature he still held in his hand that yowled and bettered at his arm with its back claws), he noticed that, for the most part, the perzai didn't seem quite as interested in engaging. Many of them were still crouched, annoyed, and hissing, but they all looked suitably worn. Not that any of them had looked that great at the outset, and they certainly didn't look any better now. But he expected they'd be content to flee, given proper incentive.
During the stall, he caught himself glancing back at the Shifter woman. She looked a little worse for wear, herself. Bloody, battered, sweaty, shirt in shambles- He blinked. And stared. For a moment, no rational thought processed. Somehow, that didn't deter his lips from moving. "It looks like one of them got a little rip... top..." He made a vague gesture toward his own chest.
His movement earned him another sharp and briefly unexpected jab from the perzi's claws. In his distraction, his grip slackened, and the feline landed on the ground with a hearty 'thwump' and a yelp from the Water man. Teslaron's attention ripped from the woman and her shirt too late. The beast was on its feet quickly. After delivering a parting swipe to Tes' shin, it darted off toward the rocks, and another instant later, its comrades followed.
He stared after them, still slightly confused and maybe also fairly miffed. But since he didn't have his immediate attention on the female or her cleavage, rational thought gradually returned. What had she been saying just a moment before? She'd been laughing for one thing. And while it was hardly the time or place, it would've been surprising if not for other, equally surprising matters. He coughed to clear his throat and ran a casual, calming hand through his dark hair before focusing on her- on her face specifically- once more.
"I wouldn't waste a good wine on it," Tes informed her. "But if you have one on hand, I'm sure we could put it to use."

"A little...?" Dris'rynne moved to place her hand on her chest, even before comprehension stole it's way into her brain. Her body seemed to still, warmth spreading up the sides of her neck to rest on her cheeks in an instant. The top wasn't entirely ruined, just cut in just a way so that bits of her breasts were on display. Thankfully nothing too distasteful, but still more skin than she was used to showing up top. It made her sad to think about possibly having to toss it, since she'd had it for so long, but maybe in that sense the perzai did her a favor. A new look for a new woman.
She just wished it had come at a time when she wouldn't have to worry about something flying out and flashing the man. Still, it didn't stop her from keeping one arm crossed awkwardly over her chest as she bent to pick up her weapons. Dris'rynne sheathed them as best she could, all the way wondering what had finally made the perzai scatter. Surely they hadn't taken offense to...Gods above, no, what am I thinking? They had been battered enough without their help, so it stood to reason they were simply exhausted.
Weapons properly placed, she crossed both arms across her chest in a more comfortable position. She wanted to snap at him, tell him to look another way, but he was at least being respectful of her situation. "I'm not in the habit of drinking, but after this I wouldn't be opposed to buying a bottle or two."
What she really wanted was a good, warm bath and something to clean out her wounds. Even minor scratches could become infected easily, and she had no desire to pick up a disease from the rotten little mongrels. She looked over to the water man, gauging his wounds along side her own and focusing on his ear. "Are you-?" She gestured vaguely to her own ear without removing her arm completely from around her bust. "We should get that looked at."

Teslaron glowered after the perzai. He really would've liked the opportunity to skin one or two of them. Not so much for the food (they all looked old and mangy and were probably the worst kind of stringy), but for the fact that the pack of cats deserved to lose one or two of its members. Maybe then they would know not to sporadically attack people for no reason. What had they even been trying to achieve? Tes didn't know. He didn't care. It just felt like he deserved some retribution for his struggles.
Because there was an awful lot of burning stinging in places there shouldn't be. Namely, all of them. His arms hurt and his chest hurt and his face- He reached with the least bloody of his fingers, dabbing lightly at the scratch tearing its way down his cheek and winced when it made contact. Touching wounds should not make them hurt worse. He was being gentle, after all.He reached further, skimming the spines of his finned ear before deciding that, too, didn't appreciate the touch.
Gr-eat.
At the woman's commentary, Teslaron scoffed. "Yeah, yeah, I could say the same to you. Get-" He gestured down the entire length of her body. "all of that looked at. Might even find you a nice curtain to drape yourself in." The whole situation felt like her fault. She still hadn't ever apologized. Though if she really was prepared to buy a drink that he could partake in, maybe that was apology enough. "Know any merchants that happen to carry the good stuff?"
He shook his head. "Name's Tes, by the way. Teslaron." He squinted down at a particularly lengthy and wide scratch on his arm. "You think those things might've been diseased..?"
