Name: Sanele (We are satisfied) Kubu (Rebellion) She goes by Kubu while racing, but her family and friends call her Sanele. Stage: Apprentice -> Beast Charmer-> Beast Tamer -> Beast Master Race: Oban (Fire Earthling) Gender: Female
Personality: 3 Base Traits: Courageous, Vindictive, Competitive Sanele lived in a busy household so one had to be loud to be heard and paid attention to. Her parents both worked hard and were often away from long hours, leaving the elder sisters to tend the house and their siblings until they themselves found work. The family came first for them; you helped your family at all costs! This mental attitude was passed on to Sanele and she is very protective of her family and will spend her last coin to help them.
She is very strong willed and will do things that she sets her mind to; to leave things unfinished is a waste of time and money! A sin! She despises wasteful behaviors, having had to scrap by and save every last thing. Nobles tend to piss her off the way they throw money around.
She hates to lose, and will remember each time she has lost and remember who caused the loss. She wants to get revenge in some way (usually by beating them at whatever she lost in the first place). She can put on a happy smile all the while plotting her revenge.
Sanele does not back down from any challenge and will fight against any fear she has to get the task done. She dislikes heights, but will not let that stop her from climbing trees t get at the fruits or nests of birds. Pain is bad, but she will work through it and do her best to not let it slow her down. She goes full tilt at her tasks, and won't let stupid fears keep her down!
Description:
A buff and lean girl, gangly at the moment but with more food (and healthier) she will fill out! Dark skin (Black+copper) with orange stones upon her checks and shoulders.Vivid red eyes and a rounded oval face with strong bold eyebrows and pouty lips. Her black hair is shoulder length, completely braided into many small braids and wrapped up with a red and gold kerchief.
Clothing: She wears comfortable clothing, loose pants with a hooded vest over a bikini top. She never wears shoes unless she absolutely has too, much preferring to feel the land beneath her feet. She has a ring on her
Accessories: She has copper earrings and anklets, plus a dark toe ring on her right foot and earrings. Both have one large hoop in them, the right ear has an extra Xaraan shaped cuff earring along the top of her ear..

SANE LE 'S.HISTORY
Sanele was born into the poorer working classes of Oba. They had no slaves nor did they see any slaves in their section of the city as slaves cost money to buy and maintain. To do something, you had to do it yourself; make your own clothes, tend to a small garden to supplement the breads and meats you bought (if you could). She was the fifth child and in fact, the fifth girl. her parents were a little distressed about the sheer number of girls in their family. Girls you had to provide dowries for and tended to find it harder to get jobs... So she and her sisters were raised almost like sons. They were taught not how to behave properly, but how to work. How to fight and survive. Her oldest two sister turned out to be good warriors and sold their swords to help bring in money for the family. The third daughter was frail yet beautiful... She planned to marry a rich husband when she came of age. The fourth daughter loved farming and works as a farm hand on a nearby farm. Sanele, though, always loved animals and had a way with them. She was able to keep the small coop they had next to the house always producing eggs; enough that they were able to share with their neighbors. Neighbors were after all like family!
As a child she was raised mostly by her frail older sister since the others were usually working. She loves her parents dearly as they would always do the best they could for their family... She knows other poor family's had sold their daughters and is very thankful that her parents are people they are.
Poor as they were, they still saved up so that every other week the family would go watch the Xaraan races and cheer on their favorite racer. It could be a waste to spend that money.. but they see it as a reward for the work they've done so far. And when she first saw the Xaraan races for the first time; longed to be on of those jockeys. She loved how fast they went, how the crowds cheered, the wild life they lived. her family could not afford to buy her a Xaraan to enter the races with, so Sanele had to think on how to get in through other means. her break came when her eldest sister came home from war to marry a fellow warrior.. who was the son of a breeder. Sanele was quite eager to get on the good side of the father in law.. and he soon saw that she had a talent. One he intended to nourish into proper paths for a Xaraan breeder. Sanele still lives with her parents, preferring to get paid and jsut travel to the breeding farms instead of getting paid in room and board.
Once she became 13 and had grown some, she approached Nhlanhla about racing. He was leery of it at first, but her determined and rather pesky way of asking about it finally got him to agree to at least let her enter some of the smaller races with his support. He claims she is just testing them to see if there are any good racers that he can sell to the big time racers.
Side note: Xaraan races occur in big stadiums much like how I picture the Roman chariot races. They were hugely popular and the jockey's were often invited by nobles to parties and shown off like ornaments. A jockey's popularity depended on how fast they raced and how often they won. They gathered huge groups who would support them. But this fame is often fleeting so many of the older jockeys would retire while the winnings were good and marry into wealth using their popularity or buy a plot of land to live off of the rest of their days... at least the smart ones did! Some got too addicted to racing though and ended up dying on the track or losing it all.
Another Side Note: She worships (as her main god) On’os the god of time and fortune as he is (in my version) the patron god of racing. Racers will pray to him to grant them a faster time, or bless them with good fortune in this race.
Timeline:
Age 13: Gets a job with her sister's In Laws. Age 15: Gets her first Xaraan! Age 16: Finally achieves the beginnings of her dream (tanks in part to her Uncle and her noble patron Nera) and races in her first Xaraan race! Age 17: Alkidike Extremists attack! She goes to defend and discovers she doesn't like battle. Age 18: Begins to learn about other animals and her boss send her off to a new teacher and she is dragged off into the wilderness. Age 20 She is ready to leave Oba!

FAMILY Kubu is the last name of the family. It is her father's family name. Father: Vuyo (Joy) Kubu - works as a delivery man for a carpentry shop; he and a set of others transport the huge furniture to houses for fairly low wages. Mother: Ciko (dancer) - bar maid/cleaner at a tavern. Sisters from oldest to youngest Ayanda (Augment the family ) - soldier(swords) and married to Thabo (Happiness) Litha (Ray of Light)- soldier(archer) Nobuntu (Kindness) - gorgeous yet frail at home person. Seeks to marry rich. Thandie (Beloved) - farm hand and wants to own her own huge garden. (will end up gong to Neued) Sanele is here!
In Law's Nhlanhla (Luck) Mandla (Power) - father in law of Ayanda, owns a Xaraan breeding farm. (Nhlanhla Xaraan Ranch) Gijimi (messenger) - married to Nhlanhla Thabo (Happiness) - Eldest son of Nhlanhla and married to Ayanda - soldier but now learning how to run the breeding farm. Khethiwe (Chosen) - Middle son of the Mandla family. Fancies himself a musician. (so so, better at carving.) Njabulu (Happiness)- youngest child and only daughter of the Mandla family.-spoiled and Sanele hates her.

Comes from middle class Oba. Chahaya: Fellow Apprentice at the Xaraan farm. Two years older than Sanele she's quiet and really good at calming animals. Tall and thin and comes from poverty like Sanele. Sabiyya: Fellow Apprentice at the Xaraan farm. Nobility and a bit arrogant but not too bad. She at least gives respect but sometimes the snob comes out. San and her love to tease and anger Njabulu. Kartini : Fellow Apprentice at the Xaraan farm. two years younger than Sanele, he is from the upper upper crust of Oba but is painfully shy. Loves to work with animals which is why he is here and not off learning elsewhere. Naseema: Fellow Apprentice at the Xaraan farm. Comes from poverty; from the more gang ridden section of the city. She is seeking to get herself out of there as she has only herself to rely upon and no family like Sanele. Very serious and studious. She is a good two heads taller than everyone else (stands ~6ft)
Eishta vas Olrika:: A hunter of Janarima and one of the better teachers. An older oban, with wild blindingly white hair barely contained by a handkerchief. Took me into the wilderness and forced me to live off the land (******** that!) and try to survive and not die... I learned though. Gods how I learned.
Jenjei: master of an exclusive filthy rich Janarim breeding farm. He sells only the best for ridiculous amounts of money. (I wish I could do that... )
Khewzi Section Chief of Breeding the Racer Xaraan. Likes Sanele's spunk, but thinks she needs more experience. The fire earthling is tall and narrow, with a wild hairdo barely kept back by a scarf tied about the many tiny braids, he always projects an air or youthfull exuberance despite his age. Very soft whispery voice. He's super sweet and easy to work with! PC's
Kiyelt: Ice: a very fascinating person! I admire a man who'd come so far from his land simply to learn its beasts... It's what I want to do! If he can do it, than so can I!
Nera: Fire: rich pampered little Perzi is what she is; but hey, if she's willing to drop so much money on sponsoring me who am I to blame? I don't like that idea of a beast fighting ring she mentioned... but otherwise she seems a decent sort. I'll use her as much as I can before I can make enough to not need a sponsor any more.
Sebastien : Fire: he's cute! I'd like to get to know more about him; he's working at the new King's personal ranch so maybe I can sneak over there and see what the most powerful man in our land is doing yes? Nice to see a fellow commoner like me doing so well!

SANE LE 'S.HOMES
Sulburi
(Sool-boor-ee) Population Size: Very large The capital of Oba, Sulburi is in the heart of Oba and governs from their large, vast city. The living quarters are stacked one on top of the other, creating buildings large enough to block out the sun from the floor level and main roads of Sulburi. This creates some protection from the harsh sun and funnels any wind into the area, keeping the city cool. The south of Sulburi holds the King's palace, inhabited by not only the king but much of the nobility of Oba.
She lives in the poor section along the edges of the city. The buildings aren't as big and often there are small rooftop or window ledge gardens. A small coop is attached to the side of the building like a small hanging room in which small farm birds are kept. They live on the top and lay claim to the small garden on the roof though they share its produce with others.
The building is carved on every possible surface; generations of Kubu's have lived here and transformed the small ugly building into art. Her mother has painted many of the carvings and the floors are covered with thick hand woven ruds and the curtains are also hand woven.

Simba Male Xaraan-- Calm, father of a lot of racing Xaraan, protective Sanele has saved up and finally bought her very first Xaraan! At an exceedingly low price....Simba is her official Xaraan racer and Lan decided to take a risk and lowered the price just for his niece in law (who he dotes upon since she's so much more fun and less annoying than his daughter). Lan's actually really interested in racing... but he's always sold the Xaraan and never response one himself before. This is his experiment to see if its worth it.. also to raise awareness of his farm and if San does well he intends to use that as a selling point. Sanele is just ecstatic about it. She loves Xaraan...and intends to use Simba as both a racer and a stud... as well as a traveling mount for when she ventures out of Oba! Speech: #C23400

Mufasa Male Xaraan: His coat is a calm color, quiet... very unlike Mufasa! Mufasa is small and fast and fiery. He kicks, bites, screeches, and wants all the ladies and attention. Sanele's Nala is unimpressed and ignores him. Mufasa is one of Sanele's racers, built lean and small and fast. He can out run Simba on short runs, but the medium or longer races Simba will always win by a larger margin. Mufasa does not have stamina. Bought with reward money from a race. Speech: #60613B

Sanele finds him lurking about the Xaraan race tracks after her first official race(and not a show race!).... which she gets third in. She'll be miffed she didn't do better but seeing the perzi scavenging will make her remember her own life and how far she's come. Realize that third place in her first official race is more than she ever dreamed.. Adopts Czar and gives him a scarf that matches hers so everyone knows who he belongs to. Speech: blue

Earthlings: Fire
The people of Oba live in cramped conditions, producing Tendaji's first real cities to reside in its time. These fire earthlings live in a desert-like environment with two large Oases that the cities crowd around. This requires light, breezy fabric and shoes to endur the heat of the sands during the day.
The fire earthlings of Oba have skin ranging from a medium tan to a skin the shade of night, all in a reddish hue. Their hair is dominated by reds and browns, ranging from light browns to dark deep reds and blacks, this red hue seems to also carry into their eyes, ranging from light light red, almost white, to deep wine colors. Like the other earthlings of Tendaji, the Obans have crystals, though these crystals are large, orange, and shaped like smoothed, polished rocks, not round, but not rough either. These large orange crystals are found almost exclusively on their shoulders and upper backs, possibly creeping up to their necks or as far forward as their upper chest, residing in virtually no other place on their bodies.
Due to the structure of their society and the working of their people, they have a wide spread belief that they not only are the favored people of Tendaji, but they are meant to rule the rest of their neighbors. Even those who do not actively want to conquer, can't seem to find it in themselves to care about what happens to the other folks of Tendaji, having the ingrained belief that they are chosen by the gods and turning a cheek to the rest of Tendaji, almost as if they don't know how to acknowledge other's sufferings or degrading positions in comparison to their own society.
Religion: The people of Oba believe in a whole pantheon of Gods and Goddesses, partitioning all parts of life to a god such as birth, death, fishing, ocean, a king and queen of the gods, etc. There is always a different name to pray to depending on the situation at hand. The major players in their pantheon include: Nerad King of Gods, god of judgement Essd Queen of Gods, goddess of life and death Drach God of storms and rain On'os God of time and fortune Lenoxe Goddess of fishing and feasts Kiyom God of wood and lumber Hatald Goddess of fertility, marriage, and women Jonal God of men and war Ubeli Godess of the moon and ocean Atun God of the sun, forging fires, and desert
Government: The people of Oba live under a nobility system that peaks with a King to dictate all that goes on in his lands. The King and his family, as well as many of the nobles live in Sulburi, Oba's capitol, while there are lesser nobles living in the other large cities as the eyes and ears of the King. The King also dictates the forces of his army, which involve another system of rank including generals, advisors, and strategists that all live within the city of Sulburi in the surrounding area of the palace.
