JANARIM (pl. Janarii) - These large, scaled creatures are vicious with piercing teeth and clawed feet. While speed is not their strong suit, they will move in packs of 3-5 to corner their prey, using their strength and spiked tails to take down their food. Bred in Oba for war, they are almost impossible to tame in the wild.

Learn to notice the small things, the half hidden signs of where a janarim has passed. Learn to tell how long ago it was, and how many there were and the age and size of the beast from the traces of its passage.
Sanele sighed as she considered this and the land before her. The harsh desert sun illuminated the oranges sand before her, warming up the cold winters day. Rolling hills of shifting sand stretched out all around her, rock outcrops thrusting out from the sand at random places and some small shrubs grew about the bases of the rocks. Apparently janarim had passed by here! The scale upon the ground and the scratches on the rock she was crouched by told her that much. But the scale could have been blown by the wind, and the scratches could be months, even years old! She stood up and walked the dunes nearby, looking for tracks and other signs. With the wind blowing the sand around, tracks vanished quickly… and even without the wind, sand didn’t hold tracks very well anyways! She smiled when she saw the next stone outcrop. Below was a half buried corpse; perfect! It was still fresh, there wasn’t a trace of maggots at all! And the blood was not all drained. That means the Janarim was by here recently, and that they’ll come back!

She hurried back to her original rock and scampered up it. The janarim wouldn’t have gone far! Not with fresh meat like that still uneaten!

She looked and saw not one but two Janarim trotting towards the area where the meat had been buried. She cursed as both their heads swung towards her and they stopped. Bad timing! They were too close for her to make a run for it… and they’d noticed her right off the bat. She sighed and sat on the top of the pillar. Best to just wait it out then! Besides… it was nice out and she had all day for them to get bored and leave!

They approached and circled her stone pillar and she got a close up view of the lovely beings that they were. One was obviously a youngster, the smoothness of his scales showed his youth as did his oversized feet. He’ll be a big one when he grows up. Sanele thought with a smile as she eyed the mother. Road and covered in scars this one was a fighter. Probably too aggressive and starts fights. Either that or she lived in a contested area and had to defend her territory a lot.

Sanele didn’t make a movement, just watched and admired them since she had the time and safety to do so. They only circled for a bit but soon left her alone and went back to their buried kill. Because she was not making an aggressive move and was in a spot easily watched, they didn’t’ feel too threatened. But she stayed up there until they were long gone then she hopped down and trotted back towards her base camp, a bit too warm from sitting under the sun all day, but glad she’d gotten to observe a mother and pup safely. You learned a lot from observation!
