History:
Arissa was born in Unova, and lived with her parents in Nacrene City. Her parents were artists, which was why they loved the city. She also had a rich, overbearing aunt who thought her parents were peculiar and disliked them immensely. But for some reason the aunt thought Arissa was the sweetest thing since chocolate and doted on her.

As a result, her aunt gave her many lavish gifts she had no use for, such as an elaborate gown that Arissa only wore once when her aunt came to visit, then stuffed it in her closet and never touched again. The aunt also regularly took her to fancy events and pressured her to join her in "cultured" society. Arissa enjoyed some of these events, like the Pokemon Musicals, but thought many others were dull or tedious. Yet despite herself, she did acquire a bit of a taste for pretty things. She would never be as into fashion and elegance as her aunt, but she did like things with a touch of flair.

Arissa eventually expressed an interest in pokemon breeding, since she thought it might be fun to try breeding for unique and beautiful patterns. Her aunt thought this was a wonderful idea and on Arrissa's next birthday her aunt gifted her with a unusually-colored Archen, the most rare and expensive pokemon she could get her hands on in time. Arissa loved her new pokemon and privately considered it to be the best gift her aunt had ever given her.

Arissa soon found out about the Zatao region, and heard how it had reports of many strangely-colored pokemon, was a regions still in development, and, of course quite far away. She arranged to travel there on pretext of investigating the cases of rare and unusually-colored pokemon there, maybe get some for breeding purposes. But half the real reason she went was to get away from her aunt, who wouldn't want to leave all her social connections and move to a land that was still growing and might be a bit backwater. Her parents were fine letting her pursue anything she wanted to do, so she set off as soon as possible (on the best ship possible, courtesy of her aunt.)

When she got to Zatao, she discovered the Pokemon Contests, which where quite different from the Pokemon Musicals she knew at home. She found she rather liked the mix of skill and flair they required, so she started training her pokemon to participate in that as well. She still keeps in touch with her family; her parents and aunt alike are glad that she's taken up an artistic profession.
