Name: Sophie Hawkins

Nicknames: Soph when one is needed, but Sophie's a nickname sort of name already.

Gender: Female

Age: 18 19 20 21 22 23 24

School/Job: Destiny City University, doing graduate-level work in Social Research. She holds an Associate in Applied Science (AAS) Degree from Sovereign Heights Prep, and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Sociology from DCU.

Fav. Food: Goat Cheese Gems with Spiced Pomegranate Molasses, a favorite recipe of both Sophie and her mother. Also freshly whipped cream, real hot chocolate (Swiss Miss doesn't count), and really most dairy products. It's the texture, not the taste, that she really enjoys.

Hated Food: Dark chocolate. Sophie's mother tried her on it when she was little, but Soph was bitterly disappointed (literally!) and now can't stand the stuff. In addition, nuts (due to allergy), dry cereal, and imitation cheese. Who would try to fake the perfect food?

Hobbies:

Crew: The daughter of a beach lover, some of Sophie's earliest memories are filled with sand and surf. Sophie tried getting into swimming, sailing, and surfing before finding her niche in rowing. Rowing keeps Sophie's body active and her mind structured, as there's more thinking to the sport than just pulling the oar. She is also a certified coxswain, but prefers the physical activity of rowing. In truth, she likes to pull her own weight. Sophie's capable of fitting into a number of different crews, but feels her strength is in coxed four, and is trying to stir up enough interest in crew at Sovereign Heights for a women's team.

Gardening: Sophie practically grew up on a farm, and her mother always kept lots of plants around the house. Now that she lives in a city, she uses gardening as a way to keep in touch with her roots (har har). She has a windowbox planter in her dorm room, where she's planted a selection of herbs, lettuce, and one strong pepper plant. She offers the harvested produce to classmates, and donates whatever she doesn't need to a local soup kitchen. She also volunteers her time at a local community garden, tending the vegetables and herbs there. Sophie sticks to produce; while she has nothing against flowers, she feels her time is better spent on something that can benefit people that really need it. No one needs flowers, but lots of people need healthy food.

Dominos: Some people play checkers or chess, Sophie plays dominos. Whenever she's feeling low-key, she finds that a good game will help her recharge. If she can't find anyone, she'll resort to making elaborate domino-tipping mazes, but it's the game of dominos that she really enjoys. At home, Sophie has no less than fourteen sets of dominos, and keeps another in her backpack in case of an impromptu challenge. She prefers playing in teams to solo games, and occasionally competes in amateur contests as a pair with her brother.

Volunteering: Most of Sophie's free time is spent helping those who can't help themselves (and often those who can). She's a frequent volunteer at the local soup kitchen and community garden, and spends at least two afternoons a week at a community center, working with children. But her efforts aren't restricted to charitable organizations. A lot of Sophie's energy is directed towards people who just need a hand with a project or moral support in a tough emotional situation. Whatever the need, no matter how small, Sophie is always willing to pitch in and help out.

Virtues:

Pillar of Strength: Like most pillars in architecture, Sophie feels she exists to support others. She devotes most of her energy to doing things that help other people. Even in her personal hobbies, she has more fun when working as part of a team, so that somebody else can reap the rewards of her hard work. This stems from the environment she grew up in; as part of a small, somewhat isolated community, Sophie knows to love thy neighbor. She's merely expanding it to include everyone she meets as her neighbors.

Good Things Come To Those Who Wait: Sophie is incredibly patient, to the point that sometimes it seems she's willing to wait for anything. She never complains about lines or being put on hold, lovingly coaxes her garden to grow every day, and is willing to put in every bit of practice necessary to improve her rowing skills. Work is important, she believes, but so is patience. This is also what keeps her going back to people who refuse her help. Sophie understands that you need to wait for people to change, much like you need to wait for vegetables to grow, and she doesn't mind. Someday is good enough for her.

A Little Bit Me, A Little Bit You: Despite the fact that she seems to live for others, Sophie manages to lead a fairly balanced lifestyle. She knows when to volunteer her help and when to take care of herself. Most of Sophie's favorite activities can be done in groups or teams, which allows her to take care of her own mental well-being as well as brighten the days of those closest to her. This isn't by accident; Sophie gravitates towards teamwork, doing her best to make everyone- including herself- happy. The happiness of others is usually enough to make Sophie happy, so she's willing to make some decisions that don't benefit her, if it makes everyone else happy. While she doesn't always succeed, the fact that she takes herself into the equation (unlike many people who try to please others) gives her reasonably high rate of success. After all, Sophie reasons, good mood is infectious, and it has to start somewhere!

Don't Worry, Be Happy: Despite the fact that Sophie has had some seriously shocking life experiences, she doesn't consider herself unlucky, or waste time thinking about how things might have been. Her motto is "Everything happens for a reason," and she repeats it often, both to herself and to others. Spending time worrying about could've-should've-would've doesn't help anything, nor does wallowing in self-pity. Whatever happened was the best thing that could have happened, even if she doesn't understand the reason, and Sophie tries her best to move forward without looking back. Sometimes this means she has to make mistakes more than once before she finally learns from them, but she doesn't let that worry her- though it doesn't engender confidence in her, either.

Flaws:

What's Mine Is Mine: While Sophie does want to help, she does not always want to share. Her helpful, self-sacrificing attitude often makes people think that she's generous, but only with her efforts. Her supplies are hers. Her garden is hers. And, of course, her friends are hers. If anyone tries to take something that Sophie thinks is hers without asking, she gets extremely clingy and won't listen to reason. With people, that means a constant shadow asking if there's anything she can do for you, but refusing to leave. Even if that's all you want. Even in the bathroom.

Mother Knows Best: You missed a spot. The typesetting's wrong. Is that really a number two pencil? Sophie notices mistakes and oversights, and she brings them to light. Even if they're minor, even if you were going to fix it later, she'll remind you. Even if you got along perfectly well without her, you can do even better with her on your side, or so she believes. This stems from her desire to help people, but her constant nitpicking grates on most people's nerves. She doesn't understand this, and feels compelled to tell people what they're getting wrong, even if they don't want her help. This is not a two way street, however. If anyone tries to give Sophie advice, she takes it as an insult and works double-time in order to prove her competence. The way Sophie sees it- and acts accordingly- everyone else can be the team, as long as she does the work.

One For All: Sophie isn't happy unless everyone on her team is happy. If a decision is made that excludes someone or doesn't reflect their best interests- even if it benefits everyone else- Sophie will demand that a different decision be made. Sacfiricing the one for the sake of the many is unheard of for her, and she refuses to even entertain ideas that hurt someone, even if that someone is okay with it. All this does is prolong discussions and unsettle everyone she talks with, and it rarely actually helps anyone. The one exception to this is if Sophie's the one hurt by the outcome, since the happiness of the group is what's important for her. In these cases, even if she has a legitimate objection or feels that the plan might fail, she'll keep her mouth shut in order to keep the peace.

Don't Ask, Don't Tell: While she's painfully helpful and carefully friendly, Sophie really doesn't trust anybody. Her experience has been that people will lie for the silliest reasons, and as a result, Sophie feels that it's safer not to believe anything anyone tells her. She tends to keep her personal feelings to herself, and while she will calmly listen to whatever people tell her, under the surface she'll be throwing doubt all over the place. This is part of why, when people tell her to go away, she doesn't. After all, they really need her help, so they must be lying. This is Sophie's biggest weakness, as she frequently disregards advice or warnings meant to aid her in making decisions, and ends up choosing poorly because of it.

PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION

Eyes: Hazel, usually wide open and excited.

Hair: Medium brown with light brown/blonde highlights from sun exposure. Cut in a short pageboy bob (or similar style) and usually worn loose without any styling or accessories.

Face: Round, with a bit of pudge and a smattering of freckles. Her skin is quite tanned from years of sun exposure.

Body: Quite tall and thick boned, with a somewhat boxy figure. Sophie has broad shoulders, broad hips, and little in the way of a defined waist. She's not chubby, but solidly built, with a good helping of muscle on her arms and legs.

Fashion: Depends heavily on what she's doing for the day. While volunteering, she sticks to simple button-down shirts and slacks, or loose clothes she doesn't mind getting dirty, depending on the task at hand. For relaxing in her downtime Sophie tends to wear athletic clothes- t-shirts, leggings, and sneakers for the most part, things she can easily move around in. She frequently wears bathing suits or wetsuit tops instead of shirts, especially when she's going for a row. When a more professional or polished look is called for, she'll break out the dresses and accessories and have some fun. Sophie likes classic styles and lines and is conscious of what looks best on her body, generally opting for flared or a-line skirts and cap sleeves that de-emphasize her boxy frame.

Interpersonal Relations

Sailor Senshi
Wait, what? Aren't senshi terrorists?

Guardians
Guardians of what, exactly?

Knights
Alfheim of Earth: Apathetic and kind of annoying, but that trick he can do with changing his appearance is amazing!

Negaverse
Captain Bazzite: A total sweetheart! And a ninja, for real! He saved me from a senshi and told me a little about this Negaverse group he works for. I think he's got a great attitude, but he needs to be more confident in his abilities.
Lady with the Net (Lieutenant Painite): Some weird lady who trapped me in a net in the park. I think she was some kind of disgruntled television producer. So far, I haven't wound up on Candid Camera, but it's only a matter of time.

Civilians
Zia Connolly: An old acquaintance from Shlip. I was hoping she could help me with career options, but I think she needs my help instead. If that's the case, I won't stop trying until she accepts my assistance.
Yvette Weaver: An accident-prone girl. I saved her from a monster, because apparently monsters exist.
Liliana Jacobs: A girl I know from volunteering. She's great with kids and has a beautiful voice. I really enjoy working with her.
Philomel Selyck: A nice girl I met at the supermarket and enlisted in SCYDC. We can always use more willing helpers!
Johnny King: A fellow Shlipper and a member of the Chess Club, who instructed me on the basics of the game. I wasn't expecting a personal tutorial, but he was very patient with me and actually got me kind of interested in chess.
Olivia Stanwood: Another fellow Shlipper, and a fellow volunteer as well. Olivia's lots of fun and has great taste in cafes.

Be ashamed to die until you have won some victory for humanity.
- Horace Mann

About Sophie:

If Sophie isn't in school, chances are you'll find her helping someone. She volunteers with a host of charitable organizations (including the local community center, soup kitchen, and, after the events of Tartaros, the hospital) and when not busy with that, tries to help individuals with their personal problems. Need homework help, or just someone to talk to? Sophie's your gal! Despite her caring nature, though, Sophie is incredibly guarded and doesn't like to let other people get too close to her, so while her aquaintances are many, her friends are few.

Current Events:

Since the battle with Kaguya at Christmas, and her temporary capture by Painite, Sophie has started paying more attention to the terrorism problem in Destiny City. After discussing it with the higher-ups at SCYDC, they'll be moving into addressing the issue of teen violence in the city, in addition to her usual volunteering. When not on the clock, she can still be found crewing or at greenhouses, or if you have a problem, she'd be more than happy to help solve it.

Plot Ideas:

- Sophie moved to Destiny City when she was eleven, so existing relationships from that time and later are A-OK and very much wanted! As stated above, she's hard to get close to, but she's far more likely to open up if she knew you from when she was younger. Existing non-friendly relationships are also cool!
- Schlippers unite! Do want much school-type RP. Sophie's courseload is pretty generalized, since she's not sure what she wants to do yet beyond helping people, so she can have practically any classes. If you're remotely athletic, she'll likely try to drag you into crew. I'm also open to getting her a roommate, if anyone's interested.
- Volunteering, of course! If you volunteer, Sophie has either met you or would like to. I'd love to do something with SCYDC even now that Tartaros is over. Maybe transitioning into helping victims of "terrorist" attacks? DO WANT BAKE SALES PLZ.
- Crew is not a very common activity, I know, but Sophie would love to drag people into it. A bit more common is her gardening hobby, and I would love for Sophie to meet others with green thumbs.
- I really want Sophie to have a run-in or two with a youma or Nega, aiming towards her having another cause to work for.
- Anything else! Sophie is not terribly exciting, but she's rather pushy when she thinks she's right (which is usually), and can elbow her way into most situations if need be.
