There were a few good things about still being in school. Finals did not make an appearance on that short list. Just because Sophie was only taking classes because she didn't know what she wanted to do with her life yet didn't mean that she didn't take them seriously. Which meant that during the last weeks of classes she spent more time than usual at the library, studying and making sure all of her work was up to date. It was late when she finished reviewing for her psychology class- and making up a couple of late assignments- and she rubbed her hands together as she stepped out into the cold night air. If she knew more about what went on in Destiny City at night, she might have opted for a taxi. But her mother's apartment was only a fifteen minute walk, and moving around would feel good after sitting still for so long.

Sophie sighed. She really needed to find another place to live, before she or her mother snapped. With everything else going on in her life, though, it wasn't exactly a priority. Not until blood was shed, anyway. She probably had at least a few months before that happened. Hopefully.

A crashing sound behind her interrupted her thoughts, and she turned around to see what all the commotion was. Nothing was there. Sophie shivered, she assumed from the cold, and kept walking. The sooner she got home, the better.

She hadn't even made it to the bus stop this time when something had crept up. Something that had crept up and caused her to stumble and practically fall on her face. She let out a yelp, which probably wouldn't help her situation in the slightest.

"...owww..." she whined as she gradually pushed her upper body up off the ground. Her chin was throbbing from the impact, tears starting to build up at the corners of her eyes. She already knew what was happening and miserably glared at her legs.

"...not now... please... not now..."

Before she had made it to the end of the block, Sophie heard another noise behind her. This one was much softer, and for a moment she was sure that she had imagined it. She was just letting the news and what Zia had said get to her. It was a quick and easy walk home, and she would get there without incident, because there was absolutely nothing going on. So convinced, she turned around to prove it to herself.

And immediately regretted thinking it was nothing, since there was a girl on the ground. Sophie ran back up the block, mentally kicking herself for dismissing the sounds of someone in distress. This girl needed her help, and there she was being more concerned about having a quick trip home! Once she was close, she knelt down next to the girl- or young woman, rather, though that wasn't immediately apparent- and put one hand on her shoulder lightly. "Are you okay? Don't move if it hurts to. Should I call 911?"

Her chin was not very happy, but in general, Yvette wasn't really very happy either at the moment. There was a monster nearby and there wasn't much she could do about it. She could stay there and hope someone would rescue her. She could sit and hope the monster would just avoid her. However, if her previous encounters had taught her anything, it was that the monsters liked to pick on her.

However, as the dark haired girl attempted to sort through the mess of anxieties rushing through her brain, something approached.

Fortunately, it wasn't the monster. It was a brunette girl. And she was asking Yvette if she was okay.

"Oh..." It made sense, since she just fell to the ground for no seemingly logical reason.

As much as she wanted to leave and seek out safety, the girl soon enough found herself rambling out "...y-you... need to get out of here! There's a monster nearby! " Her cheeks flushed a bit, but it was already out in the air.

She just suggested that monsters were real.

As the girl spoke, Sophie looked over her for signs of injury. There wasn't anything glaringly wrong with her- no pools of blood or bones out of joint- but that meant almost nothing. Even though she had some basic first aid training, there was no way she would be able to treat anything more serious than a papercut at that moment. Whatever had caused the girl to fall had probably been far more serious.

In fact, when the girl spoke of monsters, Sophie was convinced that it was some sort of cranial trauma. "Don't worry about the monster," she said in a reassuring voice, offering her arm as leverage. "Can you stand up? Stop if it hurts, but if you can, I'll help you get someplace more comfortable."

There was another noise behind her, this one coming from the opposite direction. Sophie frowned. She hoped this wasn't another epidemic like the coma disease. No, she was reading too much into it. First she needed to get this girl taken care of, and then she would investigate the other sound.

This girl was talking down to her like she was a child. It made Yvette bite her lip slightly, since gosh darn it she was 20! Had this been any other situation, the girl probably would have swallowed down her pride and let the other continue on as she was. However, with the monster nearby and prowling about, it wasn't time to stay quiet.

"I-i'm not joking around! There is a monster nearby, and if you don't leave soon it is going to attack both of us!" Her eyes shot a glance to her relatively useless legs, since Yvette really wasn't capable of glaring at them like she wanted to.

"I... I won't be able to stand until the monster is destroyed or far-far away from me... this happens... every... time..." The sound behind the brunette didn't go ignored by the small adult. In fact, she looked outright terrified as to what would be shortly approaching them.

The more the girl spoke, the more alarmed Sophie got. Not because she was afraid a monster would come out, but because she was concerned about the extent of the injuries she had sustained. Getting agitated over delusions wouldn't help her situation either. "I know you're not joking." This was true; Sophie didn't think she was joking, but did think that she was suffering from some sort of episode. "But I'm not leaving you here, so it doesn't matter if there's a monster coming or not."

She offered her arm again, patiently. "Can you try to sit up, at least? If not, I should really call an ambulance. I don't want to move you if it's going to make things worse." The last thing she wanted to do was exacerbate whatever injury the poor girl had sustained.

Where was Camelot when she needed him? He was usually pretty good about vanquishing the monsters and saving the day. Of course, the girl knew she couldn't just rely on a man from a Renaissance fair to rescue her every time she dealt with one of these monsters. However, it was a vague comfort in her life.

She needed those during these monster-encounter sorts of times.

Yvette really didn't like the tone which this girl seemed to be taking with her, especially with a monster practically around the corner. However, no matter how tempted she was to swat the hand away, she didn't have the courage to do such a mean thing. Because it was mean.

Super mean.

She didn't take the arm though, and easily pushed herself up into a sitting position. "I can sit up... it's just my legs that won't work when the monsters are around... the rest of me is fine... well... minus my chin right now..." Tenderly she rubbed at the chin while still holding herself up with one hand at her side.

And then she saw them. A pair of red glowing eyes from a distance away. It was too dark to see the rest of it, but she was very certain that those red glowing things far away weren't brake lights to a car, but indeed eyes that belonged to a monster.

"...beans..." she whimpered out as an expletive.

"Do your legs hurt? Do you have these sorts of episodes often?" Sophie was reaching for her cell phone, thinking that if this was serious, she would be better off calling for an ambulance. The last thing she wanted to do was to make the situation worse. If this was a chronic ailment, though, then maybe it was at least safe to move this girl. Sitting on the street like that had to be uncomfortable.

She made no more mention of the monsters, and wasn't planning to bring them up again. "Silly touchscreen," she muttered, sticking the phone back in her pocket and ripping off one of her gloves. Looking up from her work, she noticed that the girl was watching something, and glanced in that direction. Was that a car? No, it wasn't a car. Even though, at this point, she really wanted it to be. But if it wasn't a car, what was it?

"We should get out of here," she murmured, but made no movement. The whole thing was just too bizarre.

The red eyes blinked before they started to get larger, as if they were starting to get closer. The menacing thing about the ordeal was that a body wasn't really viewable. In fact, it almost seemed as the pair of eyes belonged to a shadow.

"Y-yes..." It was hard to disagree with that point about fleeing the scene. However, she legitimately was stuck at the moment. She had explained it numerous times now, and if she said it one more time, it probably wouldn't do anything.

So instead, she cowered, leaning her forehead against her arms, almost childishly hiding from the shadowy creature. All Yvette needed was a security blanket and she'd probably complete this imagery.

Sophie was too busy staring to ask what the 'yes' was in response to. In theory, the more she looked, the more of an idea she'd get about what those eyes belonged to. The fact that she didn't get any more of an idea no matter how she stared disturbed her, as did the fact that, without concrete information, her brain was coming to its own conclusions, none of which were good.

"This happens a lot, you said?" Suddenly her voice was a lot more urgent, though she was still trying to be reassuring. Just because this was an emergency didn't mean they had to panic. "Does that mean that you can be moved, or do you need to stay here?"

A snarl came from the vicinity of the eyes, making Sophie jump slightly, but she would not run on her own. No matter what the consequences would be. Nothing would make her abandon her principles, even imminent death-by-monster.

She winced as she heard the sound of the monster threatening them. Of course, it wasn't very visible since she was already covering her face. However, her brunette companion prompted her, wanting to find out what the girl knew.

Even though she had already decided she wasn't going to say anymore, she spoke up. Yvette was quite the pushover.

"...yes... a lot more than people could imagine..."

A pause.

"I can be moved! I just can't use my legs... I'd much rather not stay here!"

Despite Sophie's anxiety- not panic, since she was still perfectly in control of herself, but anxiety- she shot Yvette a quizzical glance. "It does, huh?" Somehow she didn't think that the girl was only referring to her paralysis episodes. That didn't make any sense, though. "Shouldn't this sort of thing make the news? If this is so common, why doesn't anyone tell people about it?"

Unless there were no survivors to tell people. Suddenly the situation seemed a whole lot more urgent than it had been before.

"Hang on tight." Sophie bent down again and scooped Yvette up in her arms. It took a couple of tries, but Sophie was a good foot taller than the girl she was carrying, and had strong arms from rowing and carrying supplies, so she managed without too much trouble. "If you're the expert on this, where should we go?" If not directly to an insane asylum. Considering she was taking talk of monsters seriously, that might be the best place for both of them.

If there was one thing that Yvette's momentary savior could expect, it was that the girl would be hanging onto her for dear life. The brunette might not have been a senshi or a knight like Camelot, but she was currently the closest thing she had to a hero right now as anything.

Of course, the hero's attempts to get advice from the girl she was now toting about weren't going to yield any answers that couldn't come from any other idiot on the street.

"...just try to get away from it as far as you can... or get someplace it can't reach!"

Of course, with wide purple eyes, she gazed back, only to see the red eyes rushing after them. Whenever someone else had rescued her before, they were easily able to outrun these monsters, but this monster was closing the gap pretty easily.

"...H-hurry!"

As soon as she was sure girl was hanging on tightly, if perhaps a bit too tightly, Sophie took off. Her progress was not quite as swift as she would have liked. She had strength and stamina on her side from rowing and gardening and constant activity, but speed had never been her specialty, at least on land. Carrying someone else slowed her down even more, and she wasn't sure she'd be able to get them away from this monster (why was she taking this monster thing seriously?) fast enough.

"Well, where can't it reach?" By this point she was babbling slightly, as she turned the corner and saw, to her relief, that it didn't lead to a dead end. "Can it go through walls? Or knock them down?" If she was believing that they were being chased by a monster, what was to say that the monster couldn't get them even if they hid inside? "What about high places? Or low ones? I'm not sure how long I can outrun it!"

Already she was starting to tire, but the adrenaline in her system kept her chugging along.
