The end of the year at Sovereign Heights was chaotic. A few late-scheduled finals were still underway. Boarders were moving out of the dorms. The bookstores were filled with clamoring students trying to get as much money for their textbooks, in various states of wear, as possible. Grades from earlier exams had started to be released. Yearbooks were being handed out. And, of course, graduation was imminent.

Sophie wasn't graduating yet. She wanted to at least complete a basic degree before venturing into a specific course of study. It was, she told herself, the best way to know what she wanted to do with her life. Not that she had any doubt on the basics: Sophie was going to change the world. But how? Two years into her "higher" education, and she was still just as clueless as when she'd come to Shlip.

In the meantime, there was lots of work to be done. The yearbook club members had finals, which left them without someone to man the table that afternoon. Sophie was only too happy to help, which left her at a table in the quad, with several boxes of books stashed underneath, and a list of students who'd paid for theirs already. Every so often someone would come, and either pick up a prepaid yearbook, reserve one (as an unofficial helper, Sophie couldn't take money), or try to steal one.

It wasn't the most interesting work, but it was a nice day to sit outside. Better still if she could be useful. Though she did wish for some fun way to pass the time while she worked.

Zia was absolutely dreading graduation. She had always dedicated school to her top priority to finish up this year with the best GPA possible, only to suddenly find herself bogged down this semester with the supernatural and bi-weekly senshi meetings. Now she was out of time to boost her average and even though it was a nicely adequate 3.2, she was livid with herself. Everything made her livid, like preparation for the end of the year ceremonies both official and social were landmines of constant reminders that she had missed out on her final year at Shlip.

She was just sort of trying to drown it out when she accidentally agreed to haul a forgotten box of yearbooks out to the quad and found herself learning very quickly how to both lift with your legs and simultaneously walk in heels.

"Hey, Sophie," She grunted, dropping the box as gently as possible and untying her blue jacket from around her waist and leaning backwards to try and work the strain out of her back. "You okay holding down the fort here?" She asked, looking at the stacks around the table and the growing line.

It was, Sophie decided, rather diverting to watch an already tall woman carry a large box of heavy books in heels. Considering she'd been counting yearbooks a moment ago, it didn't take much to divert her attention. Yet again, she was glad she didn't wear heels. For one, she didn't need them, and wearing them always made her feel ten feet tall. For another, they looked needlessly hard to maneuver in.

Zia, however, handled it remarkably well. Sophie stood up to try and help, but by then it was too late to do much. Instead, she gave a light round of applause. "Are you okay? That was quite the feat!" she said, looking the other girl over to make sure she hadn't accidentally hurt herself. Everything looked alright, but she moved aside and offered her chair, just in case.

"Consider the fort held." Really, there wasn't much to it. Looking up a list of names, checking them off, handing out books, making sure nobody who wasn't supposed to walked away with one. It was silly, the lengths people would go to to take a silly yearbook. Sophie flipped one open absently and leafed through it. "Can you believe the year's almost over? Feels like it just flew past."

"I'm fine!" Zia said in a not so assuring, breathless voice before she leaned back to stretch.

It was quite a feat, but she figured she wouldn't go on and on to Sophie about her amazing balance in heels that could rival any veteran wearer. Sophie probably didn't want to hear about that.

She nodded a little when she said she had the fort held down. She didn't understand the appeal of yearbooks, but then, everything about Sovereign heights was little more than a stepping stone between her and college and further ambitions. And not a memorable one, either.

"Yeah... way too fast," She huffed. The fact the year was already over was just frustrating. Of course, certain things had assisted in making it fly by like getting your soul hijacked by a talking cat. That sort of made her stop paying attention for a while. And suddenly, it was too late. Grades were final, things were finishing up, and everything was going to crap.

"So what's next for you?" She asked, wondering what Sophie's plans for next year were. Maybe she had something more exciting going on, not being magically tethered to Destiny City by supernatural responsibilities.

"If you say so!" Sophie replied cheerfully. "But maybe you should sit for a minute anyway, just to make sure." She gestured to the chair again, standing quite comfortably behind it. Even if Zia didn't take her advice and a load off, she didn't show any signs of wanting to sit again anytime soon. Instead, she knitted her fingers together, raised her arms, and stretched backwards. "Boy, I forgot how tiring it could be to just sit."

Strange, but true; Sophie found stillness a lot more tiring than activity most of the time. Objects in motion tended to stay in motion, and when Sophie was at rest, she found it hard to do anything but rest. It was good to have an excuse to get her blood moving again.

Zia's frustration at- well, Sophie wasn't sure what at, but definitely at something- was obvious. But trying to bring it up bluntly probably wouldn't help. As she thought about how to gently inquire, the question caught her by surprise. "Next for me?" she repeated. "Well... honestly, I'm not sure. I've still got another year of Gen Ed before I can apply to any specialized programs... but if I knew what sort of specialized program I wanted, I would have done the coursework for it already." The truth was that Sophie was in Gen Ed because she didn't know what, specifically, she wanted to pursue. At least with a solid grounding in the basics, she would be able to enter any course she wanted, once she knew what course she wanted.

"What about you, Zia? You're moving on, right?" Pinning the focus on someone else was always more comfortable for Sophie, but she was also genuinely curious. "Do you have it all figured out already, or are you still waiting for something to come your way?"
