Aftermath

It wasn't really that Jacinthus had thought much of the Obans to begin with, they seemed like a people that had grabby hands, seeming to want more then they really needed. After the run in that he and Chalcedony had with them it had become even worse. The fact that they would pretend to kidnap children to lure the two of them away from everyone else, that they would threaten them, and then in the end they would use some sort of giant bird to try to kill them... it really was a frustrating thing. It made him really wonder if they had been spying on the tournament that had happened some time back. Had they spied, figured out that Jacinthus and the idiotic shield barer were dangerous, and in the end decided to try to kill them? He supposed that it was possible, if one wanted to weaken their enemies then it was a good idea to just take them out as quickly and ruthlessly as possible. He understood it, but all that it did was make Jacinthus think that much more poorly of the Fire Tribe as a whole.

If nothing else at least it had encouraged him as far as taking up arms against them went. There was always that part of him that didn't really want to get into a massive, head on war against the unknown tribe after all. The part of him that might have been tempted to leave well enough alone had been pretty much destroyed after having to deal with the pair of them in the woods. The only real solace that he'd gotten after the incident was the fact that he'd shot one of them in the hand. The look on the man's face had been priceless, as though he wasn't expecting such a thing to happen. Good, he deserved to be surprised in such a way, especially after what they had done... or at least claimed to do.

How he was looking forward to giving a few more of them their comeuppance... and to make sure that they didn't actually get anywhere close to those that he cared about. The idea of such a violent race getting near to those that he cared about, Takoda, Keilana, or the little ones, it made him want nothing more then to track down that pair and take care of them... he wanted to do so but he wouldn't. He had far better things to do after all. The most important of those things being to find Takoda, wrap his arms around him, and hold onto him tightly. After that he would go and find his sister and her children, to see with his own eyes that were in fact safe, and warn her about the Obans that were skulking about like a pack of mangy witu. In the same manner that he would take care of some witu he really wanted to do the same about the Obans.

A thought that caused him to give pause, forcing himself to take in a deep, steadying breath. No, he couldn't let anger rule him or else his arrows were never going to be able to hit their mark. It was something that he'd learned over time, that any time he really got angry or frustrated, those were the times when he couldn't hit a target if he was standing on it. Instead he would need to take some time to calm his raging nerves, force himself to breath, and then and only then would he really be ready to face off against his enemies. If he were to rush them now he'd be likely to get his backside handed to him, not the best thing since it meant that he would then have to deal with Takoda. The healer might seem as though he were a cute, sweet, and innocent sort, but he knew what his magic was capable of. Were Jacinthus to do something supremely stupid then the handsome Shifter would be more likely to pummel him then heal him... best that he stayed on his good side.

That wasn't even bringing up what Keilana would do to him were he to be too headstrong he thought to himself, giving the slightest wince at the though. No, it was likely best that he stayed on the good side of Little Kei or she would be sure to beat him to near death with her hammer, injuries that Takoda would think he deserved and wouldn't heal him of. So yeah, it was best that he went about dealing with the Fire Tribe in a manner that wouldn't land him in hot water with two such dangerous people. Of course if his little sister thought that the Obans actually would do something so foolish as to threaten her children, instead of just pretending to, he might almost feel bad for them. She wouldn't let anyone get away with such a thing, making her as tenacious as a mother witu if you asked him.

As his home village came into view Jacinthus found himself breathing a sigh of relief. How happy he was to see Yera, wanting nothing more then to run the last bit of distance between himself and that place. The sooner he got home the better it would be for him since Takoda would be there to get snuggles from. How eager he was for something so simple as that, as if he knew that the one who could best calm him at this point was his beautiful Takoda. Here was to hoping that he was home and that nobody else was visiting, meaning that he would be able to have Takoda all to himself, all alone... and if not maybe he could just scoop him up and carry him off instead? He was sure, with a bit of luck, they could find a place where the two of them could be alone together he thought to himself a bit of a grin. That thought in mind he actually did start running forward toward home.

A Daughter?!

The battle against the Fire Tribe was a rather dangerous one, the sort of things that he had sort of expected... save for a few things here and there. A war was never so easily read after all but at least he had been a bit more prepared for it after what he'd dealt with against the pair of Obans in the forest. Now what he wasn't quite ready for had been what came after. Takoda had brought a little lost girl home with him, a Wind Tribe member, named Korra. She'd lost her parents, lost her way, and had ended up with them and Jacinthus was... happy. He'd never really considered the idea of being a parent really. After what happened with his little sister and himself when they were younger, the loss of their parents and having to grow up fast, was hard.

Even putting aside the fact that the idea of being a parent was a slightly scary one then there was the simple that the one he loved was Takoda, another man, who couldn't exactly give him a child. At least not in the natural way it would appear since he had in fact done so in his own way. Upon meeting he he felt... well, oddly elated. The idea of having a daughter was something that he rather liked the sound of in fact. There was a part of him that worried that her 'real' family would arrive, that they would take her away from Takoda and himself, something that would likely break their hearts. Its why he agreed to take her in but didn't want to get too attached... not that it was so easy. How could only just shrug off the presence of a child or try not to get too close to them after all? It wasn't as though she were a pet or something, she was a lively little youngling who seemed to be all too good at getting the attention of the grown ups around her.

After a bit of time had passed, time that didn't include the arrival of any other Wind Tribe members coming to take Korra back, Jacinthus found himself completely won over by the girl. She was their daughter in his heart even if she was very different from either of them. It seemed to only make their little family that much more interesting though. A family made up of three people from three different tribes living together, and he was... happy. It was strange and new, it was fun, and actually a bit on the scary side, and yet it was something that he hoped that they could continue to do. He wanted them to continue to be a family though he was already wondering if she was going to eventually want to go to Sauti to look for her family. Would she just want to meet with them? Or would she just want to eventually visit her homeland? It was something that they were going to have to think about one day even if they did continue on as her parents for the rest of her life. She was of the Wind Tribe and Sauti would call her one day.

It had been... well, ages, since he'd been to Sauti himself. There wasn't a lot that could cause him to leave the area that he felt was something akin to his 'territory' of sorts. He stayed around Yera, hunting that area, and sometimes went as far as Jauhar when he was seeking a specific sort of food, but really he didn't go that far out of his way unless he was given a reason to do so by the elders in the village. Even then his tasks didn't seem to draw him too far off... it was just the war against the Obans that had done so. It wasn't something that felt like it was over either, meaning that he couldn't just settle down and relax. Instead, now that Korra was with them, he had yet another reason to stay on guard and be ready for whatever it was that they might want to send his way. He didn't care what they tried as far as Jacin himself went but his daughter... if they even looked twice at her he would knock their heads clean off their shoulders! With his bare hands even, no weapons needed!

He was a new parent and yet already he was a fiercely protective one... and he wasn't alone in that. He was more then certain that if anyone looked at Korra wrong that it would also bring into play the ire of her 'mother' Takoda. Korra was in a position now where she would end up a very overly protected girl... which was sort of important given her lack of any sort of directional sense. Jacinthus cared for the girl dearly but she had the most uncanny ability to get lost within taking a dozen steps in any direction. Only that much more reason for them to be protective parents he supposed.

There was a moment, however brief, when Jacinthus thought about other things that could crop up in the future like boyfriends but decided that he didn't want to think about it. He had just become a father after all, the idea that he might have to fend off some foolish idiot that wanted to come near his daughter wasn't something he'd waste time with right now. He'd save those fears for later... fears that would likely cause him to think about Kei who had ended up with some surprise babies after a foolish encounter with that idiot shield barer. No, no... that wasn't something that he was thinking about. Ever! No, back to thinking on simple things he told himself. Odd that he would find dealing with the Fire Tribe seemed somehow more simple and easier to think about then dealing with a boyfriend or something...

Giving a sighing sound he tried to turn his entire thought process to that, as well as how he'd keep his family safe from them, so that he wouldn't have to think on the 'b' word again.

A Battle's End

The battle against the Obans was... over. It was something that caused him a great amount of relief though he knew that it was a battle that had been won through the spilling of a lot of blood. It wasn't even just the blood of the Obans either, it was also the blood of those on the side of the allied army. It was hard to call it 'worth it' because it was a lot of blood and death to deal with, people that Jacinthus had been forced to fight and kill, and he was left... cold really. He didn't like the Fire Tribe, not in the least bit, but his skills were something that he'd much rather have always used to provide food for his family, to protect them against dangerous creatures such as the witu, and to win tournaments. To kill other people though... it was something that made the Leaf Tribesman feel as though he'd dirtied not only himself his weapon. It almost made him want to toss it aside, to go about getting a new one that hadn't been stained by the war.

To do so would be a show of weakness though, wouldn't it? If he just threw away his weapon because of what he'd been forced to use it for, it wasn't right. The weapon had served him well for a long while after all, it allowed him to protect Yera and the villagers within, it helped him to feed his family as well as others who couldn't provide for themselves. His weapon wasn't at fault, the Obans were, and he felt as though he would never really be able to forgive them or see them as friends or allies. They were an invading force, one that caused a lot of pain, both physical and mental, they stole from the other people the lives of their friends and family, Jacinthus could never and would never forgive them for the atrocities. It didn't mean that he would go picking fights with them at every turn either though. He wouldn't actively hunt them down but he wouldn't actively help either either. Leave them to their own devices, and if nature or the witu decided to devour them then so be it. He saw no reason why he should risk himself for them.

There was a part of him, a more logical and less emotional part, that said that not all of the Obans were bad. Surely there were those that didn't wnat to be a part of such a long, drawn out war, and while it might be true that didn't change his mind. The most the could offer at the moment was not becoming a vengeful spirit given flesh. He wouldn't go after them, wouldn't chase them away from Yera if they approached, and that was something if you asked him. Hells, if you asked Jacinthus that was a lot more then they deserved. Given the fact that they had lost the war they should just be chased back to Oba, thrown across their borders, and never allowed any further north then that... but the thoughts of one man wouldn't sway the thoughts of everyone who just wanted peace. So let them travel, if they wished, but he really hoped that they never thought to ask anything of him because he didn't mean to help them. He wouldn't even give them directions he thought to himself with a bit of a sighing sound.

Lifting a hand he looked down at it, finding a bit of blood staining his hands, and it was something that made him wrinkle his nose. He couldn't even be sure whose blood it was at this point. Was it that of an enemy, an ally, his own, really he couldn't be certain and he supposed in the long run he really didn't want to know. He wanted to wash himself and his weapon clean of the blood that clung to both, then and only then would he feel right about seeking out Takoda and his daughter to hold them. As it stood presently he felt as though he would just be dirtying the two of them by holding them as he was. The question was what would it take to become clean again? It wasn't something that a simple bath would fix, was it?

Stepping back, away from war, away from fighting, and returning to the life of a family man and a provider he thought to himself. The issues with the Obans had passed and surely that meant that he could leave the rest to the elders of the various tribes? It was probably for the best anyway because it meant that he wouldn't have to worry about his own very colored biased coming forth during any meetings that they might have with the Obans. Telling them off during what was supposed to be a peaceful meeting likely wouldn't over well with... anyone really. The last thing that he wanted was to be the one that caused there to be a hiccup in the lot of them striving for peace. He wanted peace after all, wanted his mate to be safe, wanted his daughter to be able to grow up without fear, it would be a good thing for everyone involved... even those that he didn't care for.

Slowly the ranger lifted his weapon up, slinging it over his shoulder, deciding that it would stay there for now and until he got home and was able to scrub it clean of the blood that clung to the green wood it was made from. Once that was done then the next time he strung the bow it would be because he wanted to catch something, like an aldabuk, for his family to eat. The next time he used his bow it would be as a hunter, not a warrior, and hopefully when that time came his hands wouldn't shake. He feared that his mind might return to the battlefield and what he'd had to do on it. Here was to hoping that wouldn't be the case. His bow was his livelihood after all, something that he needed to be able to use as time went on. He couldn't let the battles against the Obans, however terrible they had been, break him. His bow fed not only his family but others in Yera, and it would continued to do so. In time at least.

Another One Ends

Jacinthus had done well in avoiding fighting for a while, taking on only things that were a source of food, and even not doing all that much in the way of duels with others. He really hadn't wanted to deal with anything that involved fighting other people after the war against the Obans. He'd kept himself from doing so too, for a while at least. Until the Alkidike, people that he'd actually come to think of as allies after the battle against the Fire Tribe, decided to stab them in the back. It wasn't just the earthlings though, they'd done the same to some of their own as well. It seemed that those who supported not being a bunch of biased, hateful sorts weren't welcome among their group either. Rumors spread about how dangerous the 'zealots' were, something that he had been fine with not becoming a part of... until he heard that one of those zealots had actually attacked his nephew.

It was then that he found himself actually looking more closely at what was going on with the zealots, what they were up to, where they were going, and finding himself getting drawn back into another conflict. There was that part of Jacinthus that wanted to complain and say that he was 'too old for that crap' but he wasn't about to stand back when his family was in danger, it was something he'd never done before and this particular battle wouldn't be the start of it.

People had gathered in Yera, much to his distaste, wanting to gather and discuss what was going on, what they should do, where they should go, and the like. The zealots it seemed had decided that they wanted to go after Sauti for some reason? It was one of those things that he'd never really understood, not really, something about one of their 'mystics' wanting to claim the place because that was where the firebirds lived. It seemed like an odd reason to invade but he couldn't say that there was ever a good reason for such a thing. The Obans had done it for slaves, the zealots did it for birds, and he was sure that someone else would do it for other foolish reasons in the future just because they thought that they could. In the end, and after another bloody battle, things had gotten wrapped up when some rather important looking people from yet another far off land, this time Zena, appeared to lay down the law.

Banishment had been decided upon. The zealots and their supporters were going to be sent away to some distant island to live out the rest of their days and Jacinthus had found himself kind of... impressed. There was a part of him that had worried that it would just end with nothing but blood and a slap on the wrist but instead it had been banishment. The women would never be seen again, if those sending them away got their way. A nice thought, though since they were alive and likely bitter it did make one wonder if that were actually going to be the case. Would they stay away? Would they try to figure out how to escape from the island they were banished to? Would they want further blood shed when they reappeared looking for revenge? It was something that one had to think about though Jacinthus didn't want to do so, not yet at least.

The battle was over, and he just wanted to gather his family and go home. This battle had been worse then that against the Obans in some ways after all, mostly the fact that his nephews, warriors in their own right now, had also been dragged into a war themselves. His own daughter Korra had been saved from being a part of such a thing but for how long? What would happen with the next battle that cropped up? Would she too have to be dragged into such a thing? Would she too be forced to fight and kill? It wasn't a thought that he liked the thought of. To think that a while back the worst thing that came to mind was her finding a boyfriend but now he found himself thinking about the idea of his darling having to stain her hands in the same manner that her fathers had been forced to do on various occasions in the past. Sure, as a parent, he hoped that she wouldn't have to deal with such things. He could remember how he'd felt after the battle with the Obans wrapped up, how awful he felt, and he didn't want for her to have to go through the same thing. After this battle the sting was still there, as was the feeling of wanting to wash himself clean, but it wasn't as heavy and painful a burden, maybe because the battle hadn't been as long and dragged out, perhaps?

He wanted to protect Korra from such things for as long as he was able to do so. No matter what it might take. He wanted nothing more then think that this was the last battle, that they would have prolonged peace, and that Korra could grow up without having to worry about such things. He wanted to think that, but he didn't. It was more a matter of hoping that the peace carried on for a while before the next big threat appeared from... well, wherever it would appear. It was hard to say who the next enemy would be or where they would come from. The Fire Tribe had been a surprise, as had the zealots, so it could come from a far off land or next door, they wouldn't know until it happened... but he hoped that it was some ways off.

Turning on his heels Jacinthus decided that he would leave the wrap up to those fancy looking people that had ridden in to stop the battle and the elders. He would herd his family together and go home to Yera, that was where he much preferred to be after all. The sooner that he could get back there the sooner that they could return to what was normal for their family, something that Jacinthus was looking forward to. He'd been through far too many battles in his life time and as with all the rest he would be happy only once this one was completely behind him.
