Chapter 5: Invasion

User Image|| IC ||

All over the world of Tendaji the word was being spread. War was coming and it was coming soon. Messengers spread out, running as fast as their feet or mounts could take them and raced to the next village, speaking of the need to now move towards the battle grounds. It was time to take up arms, and retrace their steps to the fairgrounds that had been a time of fun just a summer ago.

The villages scrambled around, making the final preparations that had been worked on for so long now. Not many felt that they were ready for the war ahead of them, but whether they were sure or not, it couldn't be stopped now. A spy had been scouting the Oban territories for weeks, watching them gear up for the attack, and had returned with the news that it would be within the week. Tendaji had eyes and ears on the inside and it was paying off.

Would they be able to win against the tyrant coming against them?

The leaders of the various races gathered together in a temporary tent, strategizing and ordering the others to carry equipment, weapons, and rations for the time ahead. No one really knew what to expect, but the mood was somber all the same.

Those that were preparing to fight focused their thoughts in the ways they knew how, while those that were staying in the background healing, feeding, and helping others were preparing the cots, huts, and areas that would be necessary for survival soon.

Vollerei sighed as she watched people bustling about. She was perched in a tree, out of the way of the incoming warriors and others who had come to help fight against the invaders. Snack and Zweil sat next to her, watching the proceedings with interest. Vollerei, already packed and traveling about to taste new foods, had merely turned her wandering feet towards the fairgrounds when she'd gotten word that the army was coming in.
She gnawed on a strip of smoked and dried meat, curious to see if she would run into any one she knew.

Rayolun had, after finding his roati friend, been headed into Jahaur to find Lasarra and Gerraden, wondering what his two friends had been up to. Along the way he'd heard of the army and decided to follow along with a pack of shifter healers, figuring that he might as well help others get to the staging area before going looking for his friends. Now they'd reached the place where he'd been for the tournament, and he left his traveling group, his roati friend Rownin trotting along at his heels. He began asking around to see if anyone had seen a Shifter and Alkidike male or female that matched their descriptions. If he was going to have to fight, he'd rather be along side friends.

Mella was sick to her stomach and hadn’t even had to help with any injuries yet. She only hoped that she didn’t end up seeing any of her friends hurt. She knew that not all of her friends would be fighting but a few who might sprang to mind. Shivering she clutched her bag to her chest feeling it didn’t quite fit right filled with bandages rather than paints. It was almost as foreign as the smells around her. Biting her tongue she got up and decided to make a pest of herself to a healer hoping they had some meaningless task she could keep busy with.

BarAmal fingered the feathers of his arrows in a silent count. Interestingly he felt little. He knew there was a good chance he would not come back from this war, and more over he would have to kill others, yet the only thing that was flashing in his mind was the faces of his family back home and the hopes that this conflict would end here and not spill into Isd. His fingers clenched around his bow and he pulled an arrow to knock it preparing. He kept the string lax for now not wishing to tax his muscles unnecessarily. Shifting his weight he hoped not to go numb and be stiff when the fighting began. Limberness would be needed and he couldn’t afford not to be in his peak condition seeing as he lacked experience as it was.

Chandra Post 1

The young boy knew this was going to happen, he had known as soon as the adults had stopped including them in their discussions about the war that they were going to be separated. He knew that Uncle Jacinthus was going to leave, and Daddy...but...he didn't expect both Uncle Takoda and their mommy would be going too. They all left and though he tried not to cry and to be a big boy, the snot and tears that managed to seep out of his face and he only glowered as their family left.

Though they were with Grandma and other kids to help out with any wounded that come in he just felt one thing. Anger. The young boy was furious that mommy and daddy were leaving them. That all their family was off on this stupid thing called a war. The only thing he could manage right now was snatching up his brothers hand and holding onto it painfully tight. He didn't want to talk he didn't want to do anything. Actually he wanted to scream to throw a tantrum anything that would force mom and dad to come back...but he knew that they wouldn't. They were already gone...

Aysun Post 1

Aysun turned to look over at his twin when he took hold of his hand, his attention finally being dragged away from where their other family members had been but moments before. They had said their goodbyes and it was something that Aysun didn't like the sound of. Goodbye... it made him wonder for a moment 'what if they don't come back' but it was a thought he didn't voice, not wanting to upset Chandra anymore then he already was. He told his brother a while ago that he would keep him safe, and that was what he had to do, right? It was because of that promise that he couldn't let himself cry even as their mother left them here.

The place was bustling around them as people got ready for incoming wounded, something that it seemed was inevitable. Despite that he couldn't find it in him to move quite yet, still waiting and watching as though something would cause their parents or uncles to return... but nothing yet. They were out of sight and they weren't coming back, were they? They had to get ready to fight against the invaders, something that sounded far too big and far too heavy for someone Aysun's age to quite understand. All he knew for sure was that the invaders and the war were both dangerous things that threatened... well, everything he gathered. They must be awful, huh? Some sort of monsters with sharp teeth, maybe something like earthlings crossed with witu? Why else would everyone, even the giant bug ladies, be gathering here to find those from the place called Oba?

After a time an older, but still beautiful, Shifter woman knelt down in front of them, reaching out to rest a hand on each of their shoulders, "Come on, little ones, how about we go to the tend that we are in charge of?" Zahra, Chalcedony's mother and their grandmother, along with a few others from their family, were to look after some of the injured when they came. It was a tough job but someone had to do it. It was because of how big a threat Oba was that they were even here. She'd much prefer to have stayed deep in the depths of Jauhar but running away wasn't exactly something that she could do. Not when her son and husband both would be out there fighting, "Come on, I am sure Reva and Vera would love your help with getting things ready." She said, hoping that mention of their oldest aunts, those who were also twins, might perk the boys up at least a bit even under the current circumstances.

Rishima Post 1

Rishima was a little on edge at the moment, the day that he knew would come eventually seemed to be upon them, Oba was finally on the move. It took longer then he would have liked and yet at the same time it seemed as though it had taken far too long. He had been on edge for so long, with only Gerraden there to calm his nerves, but that very person had insisted upon coming along. It was one of those times where he wished that Gerraden was living amongst the Alkidike as he wanted nothing more then to abuse his rank and get Gerraden assigned to some far off location so he wouldn't end up on the front lines. He wanted for him to be somewhere safe! instead he had followed him to the one place where Rishima didn't want him to be.

Giving a soft sighing sound, antennae twitching up a storm, he turned to look over at Gerraden then said, "You know you can always head back, it's not too late." Though he highly doubted that he would be going anywhere, huh? He seemed so determined, to a degree that Rishima almost couldn't understand. What was it that drove him? He seemed to follow Rishima around a lot, was really friendly, always concerned, but he felt that it was a bit different then say the way that Jerarda treated him. It was strange but at the same time it was something that he found himself enjoying. In turn it caused him to just want to look after the younger male that much more. It made Gerraden being here, so close to where the battles took place that much more difficult for him to deal with. He couldn't really look after him and keep him safe if they were in the midst of battle. Sure, he could try, but what if they were out numbered? What if they were ambushed? What if they were caught while they were sleeping? So many ifs.

Planting the butt of his spear against the ground he leaned against his weapon, already feeling a bit tired and nothing had even happened yet. All the waiting, even now, was getting to him. It was almost as though he felt that if something finally happened that somehow he'd be more at peace. Likely it was because at least then all of the waiting would be over... but despite Oba being on the move they had yet to catch sight of them. Soon he felt, but not quite yet. Just given the potential threat though he took an unconscious step closer to Gerraden, eyes still on the horizon.

Jerarda Post 1

It was time, the word had spread and now the horns of war had blared. She had been on the edge of the Jahaur forest wanting to stick close to Tale to keep an eye on Animah. The tale about the fire to her home was enough to make her on edge, though now she was worried they were focusing too much on the people from Oba than they were on the evil that was deep in the forests of Jahaur. But now there was no time to think beyond gathering together to fight.

Her bandaged hands tight on the shaft of her spear she walked through the immense gathering of warriors, looking for her sisters, looking for those she recognized though there were so many in the crowd. There was something uniquely odd about it all though, could all the tribes gather together against a common foe? It felt like it wasn't very long ago that they were rushing forward to claim new territory so that their 'enemies' wouldn't have the advantage.

Sighing she ran a hand over a shoulder, tilting her head to stretch it while her dark eyes cast over the many bodies and different skin tones here.

Betoto Post One

Betoto sat, trying to be as quiet and as useful as she could. She remembered to when her family spoke about it, but she couldn't let the old woman she called grandmother go, even if it was to heal. Nnena was still ill so Betoto told them she would go instead. Now she is sitting here, not really sure if it was the right choice. She was so clumsy and hoped nothing too serious would come her way. She looked around and saw people getting ready for what was to come, and with a frown, she grabbed the supplies and laid them out hoping she wouldn't need anything but bandages.

Uquin Post 1:

Loathe though he was to admit it, Uquin had been terrified when a threat of war first came, and he'd been certain that he would remain at home when war came. He was a prentice- and for a time he'd told himself, in no uncertain terms, that he would simply be underfoot and useless in a battle, unable to heal or do much of anything.

However, the moment he heard the call to arms, Uquin seemed to forget this moment of cowardice and joined a group from Yera and traveled with them to the Fairgrounds. He didn't stand around uselessly for long - soon enough strong hands were needed to erect healing tents, or help unload caravans of goods and weapons, and everywhere he went there was someone able to use even a prentice like himself for something or other.

It felt wonderful, to be useful! Finally the first wave of controlled chaos subsided and Uquin retreated to sit outside a tent where healers were ripping bandages and preparing medicines, where he could sit and watch and, hopefully, learn some sort of skill that would come as aid in the battle to come

Yaholo post 1

Yaholo had woken far too early for his liking this morning, and his eyes were just barely open a peel. He knew he needed to wake up soon, to prepare himself for the battles he had ahead, and flicked the side of his face in an attempt to keep himself awake.

"Rastiiiaaaaaan..." He whined. "Do you have anything that can wake me up? My paranoia isn't doing enough..."

Rastian post 1

The young healer peered up from his books and gave the Massif a look of disbelief. Was he joking? Seriously? He grunted, sighed, and tossed a bag of beans towards Yaholo.

"Those are stimulants, eat about six and you should be good to go." He huffed, before continuing his reading. "Where is that spell...?"

[Dyakida - with Kaalnia - Armory tent]

Dyakida didn't need to see the people around her to feel the tension in the air. It was thick, spiced with sweat and fear and bloodlust. You could almost cut it with a knife... which, incidentally, she had. Plenty of them. As well as other weapons and of course her tools. She was prepared, and ready for the fighting that was to come.

Peyla rested by her side, and Dyakida stroked her sprite gently. She'd filled Peyla up on nut snacks. Hopefully, when the trouble began in earnest, her sprite would be ready. In the meantime, she was kept out of trouble.

"Kaalnia?" Dyakida called. Where was her annoying bodyguard? Dyakida wished she wasn't stuck with the loudmouth woman, but Brie had insisted that she let Kaa protect her, and Dyakida didn't want to make Briella worry any more than she was doing already. "Come here for a moment..."

[Kaalnia - with Dyakida - Armory tent]

Kaalnia was still feeling the obnoxious stomach bug that had laid her low. It really wasn't fair. Why couldn't she have gotten something sexy, like a fever?

But no, she had to get a stomach bug and... well it was best not to mention what had happened. Suffice to say, she still felt halfway like death and misery, was too thin for her liking, and was too off her game to go out and fight.

Which majorly sucked.

But Kaalnia liked to look at the bright side. She was here, in a camp full of lovely sexy women (and men, of course, but a good deal of women), and she was probably the strongest one among them. It was kinda like a buffet, a dream come true.

And she finally had the sexy blind chick alone, which was good. She needed to work on her.

Her antennae twitched up as her name was called, and she put on her best smile - slightly wobbly after being sick, but still very much Kaalnia - and strutted into the armory.

"Heeeeey there 'Kida!" she said, giving Dyakida a solid pat on the shoulder, "Whatcha need?"

[Biroki - Looking for Prentices to interact with - Healers tents]

Biroki had tried to stay home. It would have been good to keep his daughters as far away from the front lines as possible, keeping them safe and sound until their mother's return.

But when Reshel said that he would be staying behind to tend to Sen'oda and the village, and asked Biroki to take his place in the healing tents, Biroki couldn't refuse.

He would at least be able to see Zuri one more time before... No, he wasn't supposed to think like that. She would come back to him.

In the meantime, he set up the simpler supplies and started sorting out ingredients for tea. His daughters were around somewhere - but he wasn't too worried. Zumurundi and Loxodonta were with them, and between the two he felt, surprisingly, rather calm about his daughter's safety. So long as they stayed in the camp.

He frowned at the work ahead of him. He knew what he needed.

Help.

He grabbed his staff and left the tent, searching for prentices with nothing to do, trying to look official. He needed help, they needed work, and he was going to put them to work.

"Any y-young prospective healers about?" he called, seeking.

Samoset Post 1

"I think auntie went over here, Ken!" Samoset announced, tugging his brother along. Aunt Pahana wasn't the easiest person to keep track of, it seemed, but chasing her around was fun enough, to say the least. He kept his hand somewhat tightly clamped around Kennet's and moved forward, peering around tents, avoiding the legs of others, and peeking through random objects that happened to be lying around.

He knew, in the back of his mind, that this place wasn't for fun, his daddy had said so. But, with all the things to look at and all the people to talk to, how could it not be interesting? The curious hybrid lead his brother through the crowds and eventually stopped short of a tent, his eyes focused on a pair of boys in front of them. Eagerly, he bounced towards them.

"Hi! I'm Samoset!" He cheered, grinning at Aysun and Chandra. "Who are you? I've never seen you before!"

Kennet Post 1

Kennet was used to being lead around by his brother, and as usual, his mind wasn't focused on his surroundings at all. His body would often bop into his brother's side as he paused to inspect a curious object or chat with a stranger, but only spoke when his brother nudged him to do so. He was fairly sleepy, much like his father, and it showed heavily in his eyes. However, no matter how tired he was, he wasn't about to complain about his brother's energetic nature. Samoset kept things interesting and fun by pulling him around, so that he wasn't just sitting around by himself. He couldn't complain about that, at least he wasn't alone.

When his brother bounded towards another pair of twins ahead of them and stopped in place, he found himself flopping against his brother, and wiggling to the floor. Tiny black eyes flickered up to the other boys, blinked, and closed halfway, before a tiny hand gave a weak wave.

"Kennet, what are... You?" He asked. His conversation skills were way off their par, and he didn't really care.

Pidgeons Go Meow X3

[Hijil - Rastian and Yaholo - General Camp Area]

Hijil straightened her scarf around her neck and face, hoping that she was obscured as she lumbered into camp. She had deliberately come quietly and alone, hoping to slip in, do her part, and slip out. She would do a good bit for the war effort, break some invader heads, things like that, but she was still wary of showing herself. She was likely being too cautious, but better to err on the side of caution than to ruin everything.

She scanned the crowd for faces she recognized, looking - especially - for one face in particular, though she didn't know what she would do if she saw her here. She had no doubt that she would be here, though. None at all.

She found, however, a very different familiar face, and stalked over, somewhat surprised. "Yaholo?" she asked, coming up from behind and looming over the halfbreed, "Is that you?" she asked her voice slightly muffled through the scarf.

[Nuawahn - looking for old and new friends - Anywhere you want him to be]

Nuawahn skipped around the camp, delighted at all the things that had sprung up in such a short time. He was excited, and he didn't quite know why, but it wasn't a bad feeling and he wasn't going to question it.

"What do you think is going to happen, Amma?" he asked the Capramel

La'amu was wary. This smelled of blood and death. Why did her notcalf want to be here? But he did, and so she would be here too.

"Ooo, this is going to be fun!" he said, ignoring the Capramel's indifferent wariness, "Ooo, thats right, I need to get beads!" he said, delighted at the prospect of getting more stuff. "C'mon! Lets find the things we need!"

It hadn't seemed to have hit the young prentice just how serious it would be, and just what could happen to him... and to others... out there.

Gerraden Post 1

Gerraden was hot on his 'mates' trails. Alright so they weren't really mates..in fact Gerraden hadn't even told Rishima about his crush/borderline obsession with the man yet. Though in Gerraden's mind there was nothing to tell, it wasn't as if his affections for the man were subtle, he hadn't kissed him yet but he certainly wasn't going to rush things. More so...

Sword strapped to his back he was walking only a few steps behind the other hybrid. His eyes glancing down to where Rishima's hand was.

Reaching forward he gently took his lovers hand in his, forcing Rishima to turn around as he gathered him in his arms. Staring into his lovers gaze the sun giving him a striking silhouette you could almost imagine sparkles appearing around his form.

"Do not worry about me, for I will protect you at any cost. I would give my life for you though I am hoping to spend my life at your side...forever." He would lean forward... to kiss him...

Blinking the real world rematerialized in front of him, he had just caught what Rishima had said to him and he gave a large smile and laughed his hand coming to rest on Rishima's shoulder giving it a firm squeeze. "I can't let you have all the fun without me. Besides with my new rank I need to work on furthering my strength and proving how hybrids are the way of the future." He continued with a slight nod of his head, his hand lingering on the males shoulder a moment.

Yaholo post 2

Yaholo gnawed at the beans he had been given and quickly began to perk up, just as Hijil approached. He tilted his head, her scarf giving him some trouble identifying her, and grinned.

"Oh, Hijil!" He exclaimed, patting the ground next to him. "Come, sit! It's good to see you! You've come to join the forces, too?"

Rastian post 2

Rastian peered up from his book and blinked at Hijil. Hm, disguising her face, a good strategy... He clapped the book closed and turned to face the pair.

"Lovely to meet you, Hijil." He said, extending his hand out to her. "I'm Rastian. What weapon do you wield?"

Ogbonna - To Nuawahn - By some large rocks, sitting - Post 1

Shockingly, Ogbonna had decided to remove himself from the crowds and sit atop a few large stones that lay to the side of the camp, for some brief meditation. His grandfather had taught him that this was a key element in honing his abilities, because it calmed the mind and healed the soul. Oggie liked the idea of healing his soul and clearing his mind, even if it meant sitting still for a while. He had been in a good position for close to an hour, until he found his eyes snapping open at the sound of Nua's voice.

"Hey! I know where to get things!" He called, waving to Nua and La'amu. "What beads do you need?"
