So go ahead and grab your goods or grab your gold and take a shot at bartering.
This prompt can be played from either side: your character can be the merchant, or can be looking to purchase an item. Groups can RP with both characters on the same side, or trying to barter with each other.

The thing that had brought him to the market place had been the rumor that the price of witu hides was up, something that had lead Jacinthus to go hunting for that particular beast. He wanted to put his hunting skills to good use, get a couple of pristine hides, and sell them so that he would be able to then buy something for his family that they had been wanting. For Takoda it was books of various natures ranging from those about magic to those about herbs to those about various sorts of medical care that wasn't magic related. He wanted to get his hands on anything like that for him, so that they could add those books to the growing number of them that they already had at home. Something that made Jacinthus also think that maybe they could also use some new shelves as well. For Korra there were things that he wanted to get for her that would be for her own good, like a necklace with a bell on it so that he could more easily locate her. He loved his daughter dearly but her lack of any sort of directional sense could often be worrisome. Best to do all he could so that he could keep an eye on her at all times.
Those things aside he would then spend whatever was left on various sorts of supplies that Takoda might need as a healer, things that Jacin would need as a hunter, and things that were needed for their home. What was left after that he'd give to Korra so that she could buy herself some stuff of her choosing. She was a girl after all, one different from Keilana, so he couldn't always guess correctly what it was that she might want. Best to let her pick things out he thought to himself in an idle manner before moving forward.
Having known that a couple of witu hides, as well prepared as they were, weren't going to buy anything Jacinthus had brought other things along as well that he would attempt to trade away. Some crystals that he'd found, which were always a hit, along with various dried meats that he'd prepared. There was witu, aldabuk, scorra, all dried in tasty, well spiced strips, all of which was extra left over that his family wouldn't need and could be sold off to get them other things. On top of all of that were just left over things that some people found interest in. Horns, bones, a container of nondwa dust, and various other fiddly bits like that.
Upon reaching the market place he found himself looking around, inspecting those that had gathered. It seemed that every passing day there were more people trying their hand at the merchant game, wasn't there? People who were making things by hand, trying to sell them, and it was a good thing. The more people selling things the better quality they would have to be to stay in competition with one another. It also meant he could walk around, chat with the merchants, and find the best prices for the things he was selling. Back in the day when there were fewer merchants one only had one price to sell things by and that was the price the merchant quoted. This was much more to his liking... though he couldn't help but to notice that there was a mix of merchants here. He did his best not to completely ignore the Obans, despite still not exactly having the best rapport with them, as he sent about selling what he had brought with him.
Jacinthus wasn't a merchant himself, but he'd been around long enough to know people, to know when they were trying to swindle him, and it was those sorts of people that he walked away from. No reason to waste his time after all on people that wanted everything but gave nothing. It took some time, more then he was used to, to sell or trade what all he'd brought with him, but in the end he felt good about it. A couple of merchants had offered some interesting books from far away, one of which came all the way from Matori and another Oba. While he might not care for the Fire Tribe he felt that books that came from their lands and beyond were the sort that Takoda might like. He'd also been able to find some of the other things on his 'wish list' like a pair of cute bracelets with jingling bells on them for Korra, and a various other useful items. His packs had gone from heavy with trade goods to heavy with purchases, and soon enough he was on his way back to the home he shared with his mate and daughter. He was eager to get back and give them their gifts.
