Dressed up in his gear, some paint on his face to help him blend into his surroundings, bow in hand, Jacinthus of the village of Yera was on his way into the field earlier then he usually went out. He had been planning the hunt since a couple of days back when heard that the prices of witu hides were up. Jacinthus had never been a big fan of the beasts, especially given the fact that he still had the scars on his backside from where one of them bit him in his youth. They were a nasty, dangerous species that he always always only too happy to take on in battle. It was why he'd been so happy about the fact that people were actually seeking out the hides of those particular beasts, because he rather enjoyed hunting them. That wasn't the only reason to go after them though, sure, he didn't like them in the least bit, but with that money he would be able to get things that his family wanted or needed. The idea of getting more of those healing books for his mate for instance or something pretty for Korra, a bell perhaps so she wouldn't get lost as easily. Those were just some things that came to mind.
Jacinthus turned to glance over his shoulder for a moment before he continued on his way. He'd let Takoda know that he was going out for a while and that he might be back late. It mostly all depended on how long it was going to take him to figure out where the witu pack was located at the moment. The sooner he found them the sooner he picked up their tracks the sooner he'd find them, the sooner he found them the sooner he would get home. Turning forward once more the hunter started forward in a swift, silent run. Time to find the witu he thought to himself, his eyes scanning from side to side as he went.
It wasn't all that long before he found the first indication that they had been in the area. He found the remains of an aldabuk that had been nearly completely consumed save for the bones. The scent of it had yet to turn to the sickeningly sour scent that went along with rotting meat meaning that the aldabuk had been eaten some time very recently. That meant that he was on the right path, which meant that what he had to do next was find the tracks that would lead him to where the witu had gone after their meal. He'd put his money on the fact that they had gone to seek out water to help digest all the meat that they had devoured. After that they would find somewhere out of the way and safe to sleep.
Lowering himself to all fours Jacinthus moved along the ground, searching for a while, before his lips turned up into a smile, "There you are." He murmured, brushing a hand against the tracks before he pushed himself up right, hurrying forward toward where his prey would hopefully be waiting for him. If he was quick they wouldn't get sniped by any other hunters that were seeking the same pay out that Jacinthus was looking to get. As he followed the tracks he kept his eyes open for signs of any tracks that said they were being tracked by another earthling, but he seemed to be lucking out thus far. He just had to continue to follow them and hope that they would be where he thought that they were going. If the hunt was a quick but profitable one Jacinthus would be a rather happy hunter.
As he reached the water hole that the tracks lead took Jacin set to scanning the area, seeking out the witu that he was hoping would be there... only to find another trail that was moving away from the water. Alright, he was just behind them, the tracks appearing fresh, but they were just far enough ahead that he didn't see them straight away. His ears gave a twitch before he continued on his way. No reason to slow down now, not when he knew that he was starting to catch up with the witu.
The question now became how big was the pack? They had devoured an entire aldabuk but that didn't mean a lot, that particular beast was on the small side after all. It wouldn't take a large pack to finish one of them off. As such he just had be ready for any number of them when he did finally catch up. The tracks were too mixed up, looking as though they were running in single file, to make a guess at their numbers. He wasn't too worried though, it wasn't as though this was his first witu hunt after all. They were out there, he was catching up, and it was only a matter of time. As such he reached to his side, taking a pair of arrows from his quiver. The first one he held between his teeth as he ran, the other notched in his bow.
A short time later he saw them, up ahead of him, just specks against the horizon. He counted four of them straight away, though there could always be more of them sleeping somewhere. Best that he stayed on his guard so as not to find himself more of those beasts before he got bit in the backside again. Starting with those four though, even if he didn't get them all, would be worth it. In fact trying to drag four of them back home with him wouldn't be an easy task. Unless there were some trees nearby when he did catch up with them because he could build something to drag all of the witu back home with him. That might be asking too much though. So maybe he wouldn't get all of the witu that he'd tracked this far, but even a portion of their numbers would be welcome since he wanted their skins.

Jacinthus continued to follow after the pack of witu, slowly but surely catching up with the creatures that that he was after. It was a bit of a slow going hunt, not really the sort that he preferred, but he felt that it was going to be worth it in the end provided that he got the beasts that he was after. Not only was there the hides to collect but there was also the meat that could be eaten. It wasn't as though it would be the first or last time that he as going to be eaten witu, one had to eat whatever they could get their hands if it meant survival. At least that was Jacin's mind set about the whole thing where as his mate was a little more picky about what he ate, not really having all that much interest in eating meat. It was something that Jacin didn't quite approve of, feeling that eating meat helped to make a person strong. Not that Takoda wasn't strong... that was a thought he would definitely keep to himself, not wanting to be buried by one of Takoda's spells.
Ahead of him the witu seemed to be slowing down and as he continued to move he was able to better make out the group of them. There were definitely only four of them he thought to himself as he quickened his pace. He was finally going to get his chance he thought to himself, lifting his bow, and took aim as he hurried along. Once he was close enough to see them in detail he set to work deciding which of them he wanted to take. There were two of them that seemed pretty perfect, while one of them seemed too old and scarred up, meaning it's hide wouldn't be worth much and its meat stringy. Best to take the two that seemed to be young adults instead, because they would the most use to him.
Upon getting closer to the pack Jacin stopped moving, taking a careful aim at one of the witu that he'd decided was 'his' and allowed his arrow to go zinging forward toward it. There was a dull 'thud' sound as the arrow buried itself into the witu's side, the arrow head going deep into its heart. The creature stood there for a moment before it twitched and fell over onto it's side, still. One shot, one kill, just the way that Jacin liked it. He might not care for witu but that didn't mean that he wanted the beasts to suffer or anything. Instead he wanted to make it quick and painless if at all possible. Not to mention that when creatures were in pain that they tended to taste terrible. If he was going to eat something he wanted it taken out quickly.
The witu had barely hit the ground before Jacinthus was already notching another arrow, lifting his weapon, taking aim once more. The three remaining witu were on the move now, driven by the scent of their pack mate's blood. The second arrow went flying forward, doing the same as the first one had down, again dropping a witu. The other too, one too old and one too scrawny, continued to run away from him and it was something that Jacinthus allowed. He didn't want all of them, feeling it would be too difficult to return home with them, so he allowed them to go. Staying on his guard he moved toward the two slain witu, making sure that the other two didn't meant to return before he set to work quickly field dressing the pair of witu. He didn't want the meat to spoil so it was imperative that he went about the messy task as quickly as possible.
The witu innards were tossed to the side in a messy pile before he set to work then tying the legs of the pair of witu together, making it so that they would be easier to get back home to Yera. Once he made it home the real work would begin. He'd need to hang the witu up, skin them, butcher them out, then he'd have to get the meat to smoking before he brought the two witu hides to those who were buying them. Once all of that was done, and the meat was prepared, it would be time for him to go shopping for the presents that he wanted to get for his family members.
"Who would have thought that you witu would actually be useful." He muttered to the pair of them. Sure, they had their uses in the past as far as food was concerned but they were even more useful today. The idea of being able to get presents for his family members was something that had him smiling in a happy manner, all but humming as he started on the slow going journey that was getting home with two witu. It was normally something that would go faster were he to drag the carcasses home but it wasn't something that he could do this time. He wanted the hides to remain in as pristine condition as possible so that the price wouldn't drop. He'd be damned if he got screwed over because he didn't want to be careful.
Once everything was done he was only too eager to get back home to his family to give them their presents. He could also share the meat that he was preparing with his daughter Korra because she was, like Jacin, a fan of such things. Takoda wouldn't find any interest in cooked up witu meat but at least he knew Korra would want some. Given that he would likely end up with too much of it, even if it was cured or smoked, he could always sell some meat as well for a bit more coin. There was always an abundance of people willing to pay for meat instead of having to catch and prepare it for themselves. It was something that even Jacinthus had done before, though mostly back when he was younger.
Nowadays he could better provide for himself and his family, something he was quite proud of. After all of that, if there were extras left over, he would bring them to Keilana and the boys, and pray she didn't hammer him for giving her 'hand outs'.
