Bebe's family was one of the few that leaped at the idea of leaving the desert, believing there was fortune to be found in the 'big city' of the new world that had been opened up to them. A more underlying reason for their departure was far less innocent, however. Even more rare than a family that left the desert, Bebe's family had deep-rooted distaste for nagas. Most bakanekos enjoyed the union between their species, but Bebe's family were incredibly traditional and their wealth led to pride and xenophobia, as it often did. Because of this, an unhealthy level of subconscious racism was seeded in Bebe, even though she herself was almost entirely raised in Asphodel.
Despite this unfortunate family trait, Bebe has always been an agreeable and charming individual. She adores attention and, being an only child, it was easy to get from her parents. Not only was her fur beautifully vibrant but it contains three colours, delighting her parents. Furthermore, her critical thinking and seemingly endless curiosity of the world has made her prized by her family and their acquaintances, almost overcoming the judgement her parents have received for only having one child. Bebe's agreeableness and desire to learn has made her school life wonderful, although she was only sent to the academy as a junior having been home-schooled by private tutors as a freshling.
Bebe's empathy and critical thinking recently helped her during a school expedition to the Forbidden Forest. Her parents were hesitant to even let her attend, but even they find it difficult to say no to the charming young neko. While there, Bebe not only easily made new friends wherever she went, she also helped ease tensions between her group and a new species they encountered - the kumiho. After this expedition, she's only become more and more interested about the world around her and all the different species in it. She still tends to subconsciously avoid any naga she comes across, but currently this isn't even something she is aware of in herself.
Bebe's interests now lie in politics and negotiations, although she has always held a deep keenness for divination. Her future is uncertain as she continues her schooling, however an arranged marriage from her upper class parents may be secretly in the works.

fluffy.
though he wasn't given the most original name, fluffy is a loyal and loving fennekit. bebe has showered him in love and affection ever since the two came together, and that has made for one pampered familiar. however he can't help the nature of his breed, so fluffy is rather aloof around anyone but bebe. furthermore, if he feels that she is snobbing him or hasn't been giving him enough attention, he gets pouty and will end up exploring outside for days on end. bebe is happy to let him explore as it helps him burn off some of his seemingly-endless energy, but she easily wants for a tail-brushing buddy.
sparky.
sparky is the physical reminder of the questionable adventure bebe experienced in the forbidden forest. while searching for a lost kumiho child, bebe and her friends encountered a number of friendly wisps. whether they were simply susceptible to others or if the young kumiho had tamed them, they were happy to accompany the small group back to the academy. sparky is a surprisingly active and social wisp, often imitating actions of affection such as 'nuzzling' - to the best of their ability, in any case. bebe decided that this is because they have been feeding off her life energy and, after all, who's a more fun-loving, affectionate nightmare than bebe?
forest.
forest was a gift from bebe's dear friend nashira. the beautiful spectrefox was named after the place where bebe and nashira first met - the forbidden forest. as a cheerful person, bebe had avoided spectrefoxes due to their association with death, but after spending time with forest, bebe has learnt how intelligent and loyal the familiars are. for his part, forest has settled in well with bebe and her other familiars. during their first encounter it almost appeared as if forest chose her, so it's not surprising that he tends to stay by her side.
teto after enthusiastically embracing society outside of her village, teto has been overwhelmed with the cultural and technological differences. as someone who was there when the kumiho were rediscovered, bebe has offered to befriend teto and help explore the new world with her - after all, it wasn't so long ago the bakeneko were in the same situation. both bubbly and social, the two became fast friends and nearly inseparable.

Connor was raised in a boisterous household. The mothers who raised her were a naga and a bakeneko; both parents had two children from previous imbuings and one that they imbued together. All of Connor's siblings were brothers, and she fought desperately to fit in. Of course, gender stereotypes weren't pushed on the children, but their mothers were always competing with one another. They jokingly said they 'fought like cats and snakes' and were constantly trying to beat each other at whatever activity they participated in; cooking, cleaning, even changing diapers. This bred a competitive nature in all their kids and, being the second youngest, Connor was determined not to be left behind.
In order to stand out, all of Connor's siblings seemed to pick a speciality. All of them competed in sports, but they favoured different games. Connor's oldest sibling aced their classes and became a doctor. The second eldest became a semi-professional musician and the middle child has already received many awards and merits for their football skills. Only the youngest brother hasn't received dozens of accolades, but they're already beginning to show immense artistic talents. This, naturally, leaves Connor in a stressful position with a lot of pressure placed on her young shoulders. Her mothers are supportive no matter what, but they always encourage their children to do more and always try their hardest.
Currently, Connor is trying to find a sport that she can excel in. The young naga is leaning towards basketball or soccer, not wanting to look like they're 'copying' their elder brother by playing football. A hidden passion of Connor's is alchemy; she knows her mothers wouldn't mock her interests, but she's less certain about her brothers and peers. At school, Connor is something of a bully without meaning to be. The competitive nature of her household has simply transferred to her school interactions, and as a result she leads something of a gang. Connor hasn't made any close friends, but she considers herself socialised due to the 'followers' she has accumulated.

victory is a highly intelligent vespercat, even for her breed. while connor may not appreciate this while she is a freshling, she'll no doubt in time come to acknowledge how special her familiar is. victory, while blatantly not a fan of children and their messy ways, is surprisingly affectionate towards connor. she enjoys riding on her owner's tail or batting at the rattle-tip. victory is one of the few creatures towards which connor is openly affectionate and kind, and perhaps the familiar appreciates this special treatment as she rarely causes difficulties for her owner.
alexander connor befriended alexander after a brief soccer game in which she believed they established a friendly rivalry that would hopefully persist throughout her time in the academy. their friendship is still beginning and they often bond over various sports activities.

Quinn was the youngest of two children born to a high-class Elven family. Despite still being within the upper crust of Elf society, his family is not particularly wealthy. They still have an abundance of assets, but certain poor business decisions in the fifty year war left Quinn's family in great debt to many other families. Quinn's older sister has taken on the role of trying to bring their family back to greatness, focusing her studies and passion in business, trade and networking. Staying true to the tradition of 'the heir and the spare' in wealthy families, it was decided Quinn would be sent to study in the Academy to try and form connections with established families Below. Quinn's family believes this networking and finding new trade partners will be essential in recovering their family's name.
Quinn was more than happy with this arrangement, although her opinion hardly mattered. Having realised at a young age that she was bigender, Quinn had found Elven society distasteful. There may not have been prejudice against her specifically, but being part of a minority group made it easy to identify others. The class differences in Elysium disgusted the young Elf who had formed a sense of social justice at a young age. Of course, being raised in an upper class family had formed a sense of snobbishness in her that she finds difficult to avoid, causing her to be superficial when it comes to accessories and aesthetics. Quinn finds value in beauty and will subconsciously favour anyone who is skilled in magic.
As a freshling, Quinn has picked up what he refers to as a 'quaint lower class interest' in the form of playing the guitar. He is a somewhat lazy and complacent child, but fortunately his wealthy upbringing has given him a head-start when it comes to his studies so he is able to do well in classes. Quinn spends a lot of time studying and practising all forms of magic and is determined to master them all. The goal to establish trading partners has been somewhat forgotten, although he intends to pursue it as he grows older. He may not approve of all of Elven society, but he is still proud of his heritage and wants to see his family return to greatness.

it's said the personality of familiars reflect that of the owner, and this has certainly proved true in the case of stripes. the lazy flitterat spends most its time sleeping and is oddly laid-back for its species. due to quinn's relaxed nature, stripes has chewed his way through a few personal items already with little training to tell him otherwise. one trick he has been taught, however, is to squeak along when quinn strums a tune on the guitar.
alecto quinn met alecto in a beginner music class and the two quickly hit it off. soon after quinn requested to become roommates with alecto, and now the two can often be heard making music in their dorm.

Raven had an average upbringing in an average home to two average demons in Asphodel. He has nothing of interest to say about his childhood; his parents simply met when they were in university, got married and imbued a stone. His parents treated him with love and care, with one mother going to work and the other staying at home to look after him. Completely normal. This, of course, infuriated Raven as he grew older. He saw the fortune of a loving family and stable shelter as nothing more than mediocrity and began to make up his own drama to compensate. He was a rebellious child, much to the confusion of his mothers, and they were somewhat relieved when it was time to send him to the academy. They rationalised that the stability of school would calm him down and they were, much to Raven's disgust, incredibly supportive of him regardless.
Wishing he was a cool, troubled soul, Raven put on an aloof demeanour even as a freshling. He wanted everyone to know he was far more interesting than they were, not even having the time to amuse them. Somewhat ironically, this attitude did cause him to become more interesting to the other students and many rumours were started about Raven's home life. The most popular - and the one Raven would never deny - was that he lived alone in a haunted, derelict house and communed with ghosts. Young Raven was delighted - he could hardly invent such wild stories himself, but it gave him the reputation of a dark, mysterious young lad. This caused many freshlings to want to be friends with him, but he was always dismissing; secretly, of course, he delighted in the attention.
As he grew into a junior, most of the wild stories about Raven disappeared, but the 'damage' was done. He was widely perceived as cool and dark, and this was only enhanced by his newfound interest in make-up and accessorising. His accented contours and shadowy eyes only lent itself to his reputation, and there were many young juniors who began to pursue him. Any relationships Raven entertained would fizzle within a month as there's only so long someone can put up with his dismissing, arrogant nature. Any relationships that lasted longer were usually quite toxic, as the other party would try desperately to change him, to be the one exception to his aloofness. The truth is, of course, that Raven can hardly see beyond himself. Despite his mothers' care and attention, Raven seems to have avoided developing empathy. Now his vanity causes him to spend most of his time practising makeup application rather than studying, but only time will tell if this affects his development.

raven would be the first person to state that he was not an animal-lover. he never understood the appeal of the annoying responsibility and yet - perhaps ironically, due to his name - has found himself in the possession of two cockatriels. the two started following him around during the winter celebrations and don't seem to want to leave, much to raven's dismay. it seems appropriate that he would get such arrogant and snarky familiars. nipper appears to be the leader of the horrifying duo - raven has assumed it was because of her brighter colours. birdbrain isn't quite as aggressive but if he sees nipper antagonising raven then he tends to join in. all in all, raven tries to leave the two alone and hope they'll do the same, but it would appear that the cockatriels are starting to somewhat respect their rude and cocky owner. soon they may even be biting his enemies.

raven had only just started to adjust to life with his two cockatriels when guano came along. the junior was horrified when one of his teachers offered him the nezubat, insisting they needed someone to take care of it and he'd done such a good job with his other flying familiars. not seeing much of a way out - and come on, nezbuats were pretty punk - raven reluctantly took him in and gave him a nasty name. the ever-happy guano seems surprisingly content with the situation, even though he's become the new target of the birds' bullying, much to the relief of raven.
