"I have a set of tools, screwdrivers and hammers and the like, that're enchanted to be stronger and easier to handle with my claws," Ares spoke up once there was a lull in the volunteers. "Most tool sets are made to be used by those who have . . more flexible fingers and it makes it difficult to work with them." A quick wave of his hand showed them his set of claws. He'd broken several of his friends' sets while using them because they weren't enchanted. Now, thankfully, he didn't have that problem anymore. There was also his soccer ball that he'd been working on enchanting, but they didn't need to know about that one.

Gwen started her research about practical magic, she would have guessed that divine major would cover healing magic, but she was mistaken and learned at Practical magic covered. Household magic, Healing magic and Protective magic. All things that Gwen wanted to learn when she was able, so she could better protect herself when she was studying her scientific research. Gwen said "Household magic can be used to clean and keep a household in order, which I personally would use to help keep my lap clean, once I get one." Then she went on to say "Healing magic is of course for healing wounds, which I would us for any injuries I accidently inflicted on myself or others." Then she finished with "Protective major can be used to protect objects like boxes, which I wonder if I could enchant a batch of beakers to not break.."

Ayuu waited until a handful of zer classmates had spoken before piping up zerself. Ze hadn't often thought of magical studies, considering that ze planned on being a pianist, but the discussion today had zer wondering if the two couldn't be more closely related than ze'd thought.
"I don't mean to sound presumptuous," ze said, clearing zer throat. "But might musical magic be categorized under the divine? I don't think it's task-based like practical, or particularly methodical, like the arcane. And while nature makes its own melodies, the kinds we produce on harps and flutes are far removed from that these days. Music affects us like... love." Ze swallowed. "Or something else that we can't measure or study up on. I think it's possible. Of course... I could be wrong."

Bebe was a huge fan of diviniation and illusion, but seeing as she couldn't take those electives as a junior, she chose to study foundation magic. Unsurprisingly she chose to comment on divine magic, and she was quick to leap straight into an answer. "Divine magic is all about spiritual energies and the spiritual energies like the soul, right? And the soul makes up who you are?" she clarified, hoping it would bolster her next argument, "so it can totally be used to manipulate people! If your soul is your personality, then soul-magic, divine-magic, can influence your decisions and how you feel about things." She was speaking about the topic passionately, but quickly realised how her words could be interpreted and was quick to reassure her teacher, "n-not that... you should manipulate people, of course. But you could. Plus, knowing someone else could do it to you can allow you to prepare your soul and mind to prevent it!"

Cybelle thought about the question of magic types he was most interested in elemental, practical and racial since he recently started working on controlling his chimera fire powers, racial magic had been on his mind. "I thought maybe elemental and my racial magic could be used in my tinkering and carriage repair work, maybe to repair cracks in the medal or to soften and bend it.. " Cybelle said softly "Or maybe it could be used making art, like glass blowing." Cy wasn't really comfortable talking in front of the rest of the class. Cy wished Taffy or Wren were here, but he wasn't sure if he would ever see either of them again, they all had their own things to focus on, so they might have drifted apart.

Ah, yes, magic--the gateway to the future. Ustule quietly took a seat and listened to the lesson. She tried to think--and think like a normal academy student. "I em...not entirely clear about racial megics. You say that the arcane arts are channeled through our heritage, end yet, our racial megics are clearly part of nature, since we are es much of nature es everything around us." She drummed her claws on her desk as she considered the quandary. "I think...the types of megic cen maybe be molded together into a single whole, yis? Thet way, our heritage would mix with the natural surroundings to perform our tasks."
She made a face. "Okay, off-topic, I know. Divine megics...maybe they could be used to invoke protection of the gods, or to win their favor." She wasn't really interested in divine magic, much. Unlike most Litches, she had little time for the gods. They weren't around when she needed them. "Netural megic could maybe be used to manipulate our surroundings, such es to maintain the health of a garden or a farm. They could be used to keep bugs out of trees to protect our forests. I suppose you could combine the two to protect sacred groves?"

Wyrdda listened carefully to everything the teacher had to say, and to everything her classmates said. One thing someone said made her frown. Music? As a divine magic? Of course, music was wondrous, a gift from the spirits...but it was the premise she disagreed with.
I disagree with Ayuu, she wrote as her assignment. I've played music since I was old enough to hold an instrument, and it is a lot of hard work. Daily practice, discipline, studying other forms of artwork and culture. Given the hard work--and the way our heritage and our experiences shape the way we play and the way we listen--I think music is an arcane magic. I think it can be used for many things--it could become divine magic if it pleased the gods, performing acts that most arcane magic could not perform, but I think music magic is, in itself, a form of arcane magic. She tapped her pencil against her claws. Was there anything else to say? Ah, yes. Magic need not come from a holy source to be wondrous and set our souls free. She nodded with satisfaction and handed the paper in. With that done, she listened to the rest of the conversation as it went past, unable to participate, but able to learn.

Yaviss neatly ignored the racial magics. It was an instinctive dismissal on his part. Nightmares might discuss it freely, but he was not a Nightmare. Instead, he decided to concentrate on practical magic. "Practical magic must be the magic that imbues stones," he said quietly. "Since it comes from inside each of us, and is used in every day life." He tried to think of what else could be used with practical magic. "Like computers--it's the magic that powers them, right? I guess it could also be used to fix computers when they've gone wrong, or whatever. Sort of...adjust the magic inside the crystals."
He considered the problem further. "Maybe practical magic could even be used to harm the crystals themselves from an outside source? Like a virus or something." He fell quiet, nothing much else to add to the conversation.

Nai considered the various magics laid out before him. So many different ones. He wondered which ones he was most interested in. He supposed nature magic and practical magic. As for how they could be used...
"If practical magic is what makes stones, then could practical magic be used to trace families around? Each individual must have a distinct magical signature. We know that because people who are related to each other can't imbue stones together. If we could detect each person's magical signature, then we might be able to trace bloodlines around. Wouldn't work if someone else in the family was dead," he added thoughtfully. "But adopted children could find out who their parents were and reconnect with them later in life. It could be very useful for reuniting families. Tracing magic like that would definitely be practical, I think. Or, if imbuing is nature magic, then tracing would be nature magic." The idea, once it had landed in his head, was starting to stick...

Taliesan was always focused on honing his magical skills. Thus it was he enrolled in a night class on Magic Theory. Though his mother had taught him much, he was always curious to practise the methods of another.
This time, in inhaling deeply for his Casting channelling, there was no strident voice of mother, no rapping cane across his knuckles if he made even the slightest error in the gestures. And yet...somehow, the results were not as crisp as his usual casting. The energy flowed through him, of course, but without being clamped down, trying to impress mother, his focus was warbling and loose. It followed that the energy would rip through him with the same abandon.
What did this mean for him? That he required external pressure to cast? That simply would not do! He would need to practise in solitude more often, or experiment with his environmental factors to improve his versatility.

Oriset concentrated on the flow of energy and reached deep inside herself for the power she needed. She felt her life force flow through her, a bright, hot energy that struggled to escape her grip. She forced it to behave, bending to her purpose--to change the appearance of her desk so that its legs looked like wolf legs. As she let the illusion flow away, a wave of exhaustion hit her. Her control was lousy--she'd lost some of her life force in the course of the focus-channeling. She was done for the day. Anchriesel reached into himself to perform the casting-channeling. He murmured an incantation he had learned last night in a textbook--to enchant a pair of headphones to block all sound. The enchantment probably wouldn't last very long--he felt the energy in him wriggle out of his control, and he knew that he was putting way more energy into the enchantment than he should have. Such an inefficient use of magic was sure to make his casting...impermanent. Oh well. It would be nice to use while he could. He wouldn't be able to do any more magic today, though--he was exhausted, having used some of his own life force. It would be back by tomorrow, but until then? Magic would be difficult, if not impossible.Note: Anchriesel has taken this class before, so I added 5 to his score. Previous class.Note: I had originally posted a third character before I reread it and saw that we are only allowed to post two characters of each stage. This character has been removed.

Raven wasn't too interested in magic, but it was one of the least-deplorable electives available to juniors. He chose to practice the casting theory of channeling, seeing as he was most interested in enchantment and temporal magic. The sensation of the magic flowing through him was surprising, and he found himself wanting more. He managed to perform basic casting, but knew there was raw power being wasted in the process. "Incredible," he muttered, looking at his hands with desire, his eyes sparkling at the potential he'd discovered within himself.
