[.part one.]

"From the Deep, Dark Grove..."

After many years of slumber, the most well kept secret and 'treasure' within Azumoth's grove at last awakens from its slumber...

Paramekia Darkheart
...Cyn Generis Wakes Up...

Long had this beast chosen to lie in slumber, shrouded in secrecy and away from the view of prying eyes. His abode carefully selected by his most trusted companions, for years he had lay undisturbed. Enveloped in a blanket of darkness, he was embraced only by the warmth provided by the small confines of his chosen cave while the winds that thrust themselves through the small entrances of the catacombs, tore endlessly through the tunnels.

...Their chills had only one purpose in the minds of his keepers, they were there to serve as a warning and as a reminder that nothing unwelcome must step into the beast's chamber. They had done everything in their power to hide him, over the years their combined efforts had made him nearly invisible to the passing creature and yet as of late strangers had wandered ever closer and had threatened that which they protected.

They had given their solemn oath, a promise to let none discover the existence of their fallen Lord and yet as the weeks passed on it seemed that they were dangerously close to failing. The protector and guardian of the forests they had chosen to follow in their footsteps of their slumbering lord seemed to be encountering problems of his own. Once again the fates chose to play cruel games on mortals of this world and while Azumoth fought hard against them, things always found a way to slip by.

They did not blame their new guardian for this, the Fates were dangerous spirits and could not be completely opposed but they did consider it unfortunate that now was the time they chose to strike. Over a process of a few months they had observed changes in their own master, the former lord shuddered and quivered in his sleep as though his limbs were beginning to stir - his head would shift and while his eyes remained shut that murmuring could be heard.

Their slumbering lord, was deeply unsettled.

One more disturbance and they ran the risk of his waking up...when he had chosen this path of slumber he had been filled with rage, they weren't entirely sure that the sleep would do anything to help this matter if he was woken up prematurely.

...Or maybe it wasn't prematurely, who knew?

"Any news?" one particular keeper, one of hundreds of spiders within that single cave paused in the weaving of another web and fixed her many eyes on her comrade. Having scuttled alogn the walls of the catacombs for days, the word had it that so far no other had stumbled upon the cave and they were safe...that still didn't put anyone at ease though.

"None," the other female replied, clambering onto the web to admire the handiwork, a small tab of one of her legs indicated she was satisfied. The web was strong and thick, combined with the other webs it would act as yet another silken curtain between their Lord and the world outside - it would also keep him warm too. "The catacombs are silent, save the wind there are no disturbances."

"Not even for the flowers?"

"Not even for the flowers," the spider agreed.

Well.. Hell. This was the absolute last time that Lovey was going to let her mother tell her just a really vague direction to follow and from there she’d be able to “just n** and tuck her way home in a matter of hours.” Hell, days would have been better than the ridiculous amount of traveling it had felt like she had done. Not that ‘Naci had actually gone anywhere productive in the past little while. Just here and there around a tree up and down and back again.

It seemed that the farther she wandered in the particular direction the more silent and deadened things became. Her hoof steps were careful and very obviously measured because she had to make sure not to slip on anything or to change and go in an entirely different direction. Ignacia really wasn’t a “young” young mare anymore, but she certainly still didn’t have much of a clue on directions.

Her silver body crackled and shone in the eerie sunlight and her mane and tail were the loudest noises that she made. Every once in awhile they’d pop just a bit too loudly and she’d flinch and look up or back irritably. Why couldn’t they behave like every other Soquilis mane and tail did? But Nooo these just insisted on misbehaving and irritating her when it wasn’t appropriate. Sort of those things where you’re supposed to object or be quiet and that’s when she’ll have a double mane and tail popping.

‘Naci didn’t seem to realize that while she was going downhill, she wasn’t going downhill that led to more alive and brighter things. Her mind was off in the clouds and usually where she was quick as a whip the mare just plucked her way along happily. Part of her felt like singing and the rest of her that managed to retain a few ounces of cents kept her shut up tight.

She’d probably be home soon.

How was she to know if she would be or not?

‘Naci looked down and noticed something rather unusual not too far ahead. It was just barely within her range of site, but if she didn’t know any better she’d call it a cave. Moving forward carefully once again, ready to spring back if anything came her way Ignacia stopped about one hundred feet from the entrance of the cave.

Was.. That a web?

Now then, this was just too weird.. What sort of spider was big enough to make a web that big? Her body trembled with fear but her mind forced her forward. Silver flesh quivered as she sidestepped and just about danced her way forward. Amber eyes stared very seriously at what was ahead of her and finally ‘Naci was within touching distance. Touching distance that was, if she leaned her whole neck, head, and body forward and managed to stop the shaking.

Wait, first she’d try calling for someone.

Her voice was soft, gave none of her fear away. (well, maybe a little but she’d deny it) “Is there someone in there? Can ye hear me?”

Paramekia Darkheart
The labyrinth was extensive - while the cave entrance to the vast underground tunnels was tiny that which lay beyond it was gigantic in comparison. Looks could truly be deceiving and while the spiders had worked hard over the years and through their generations they could only do so much. Admittedly, projecting an image of a huge spider was a good defence - the sheer size of all the webs clipped carefully together was illusion enough! It was just a shame they couldn't conjure a giant spider too...

Unfortunately, while she may have been a long way from the slumbering beast within the very deepest regions of the underground labyrinth...her voice still carried. Echoing and bouncing across the walls, it caused all walks of life (regardless of how small) to glance up inquisitively. In a manner of speaking, her voice was almost ghostly to them but it was so audible that it caused a great deal of worry.

...A stranger, again?

A female no less and her voice was loud enough to wake the dozing beast. No longer was his sleep so deep to ignore that and from within the depths the great form seemed to shift before dropping into a slumber once again. Such motions even stirred the slumbering spiders from their sleep while those spiders...those secret keepers on patrol either rushed towards their treasure or towards the entrance to inspect who was there.

"I thought you said there were no disturbances!" The lead spider hissed as it dropped the silken thread from its grasp.

"There weren't when I looked!"

Ignacia once again felt herself being torn in two as to what precisely she should do. It very obviously seemed to be the entrance for a rather large spider’s home, but if that were the case…. Wouldn’t the spider not be able to comfortably get out of there? A lot of smaller spiders maybe? Wait, a few medium sized ones? “Och.. Me damn mind has gon’ an’ snapped.” Because figuring that it could be a few medium or a lot of small just was.. Well on the close side to crazy. ‘Naci knew she could do it.. She had to now.

The blue flames had gone a deeper blue color, telltale of actually having some heat to them. Slowly the sleek coated mare made her way towards the entrance. Her body shook quietly because every instinct told her to run, the rest wondered what was down there. That, unfortunately, is what won out in the end. The desire to seek out the unknown.

Sizzle. Sizzle.

Her mane, tail, and hooves were burning down the entrance rather quietly. The smoke began to billow. A white etch that made ‘Naci seem like an alien. Blocking out what she normally would see but making the creepy-crawly feeling of trying to push cobwebs away with her nose disappear. ‘Naci called out again into the darkness, trying to hold the fear in her heart. “Hello in there? I.. I’m not tryin’ ter hert anythin’ an’ err.. Oi.”

Oh.. Dear sweet jesus.

Spiders..

Even in the smokey lighting she could see them moving. ‘Naci stood at the singed and now cleared entrance. Well… Step one was completely. The flaming mare continued her way into the cave. Her flames still singing a bit.

Paramekia Darkheart
"SHE'S ON FIRE!" One spider shrieked at the top of its lungs, something that came out more as a tiny squeal than a scream. Given its size it was a damn loud cry though and the terror in its voice was enough for the other spiders (and creepy crawlies) to scream and panic as well. Thus the walls literally began to ripple and so to did the floors as the tiny shrieks rose and fell - combined they made quite the racket.

"Douse her in water!" cried another as it dropped from the ceiling and onto her muzzle, staring at her with all eight wide eyes before giving another shriek when it spotted the damage she'd done to the 'door' - really she had no idea how long it took to construct something so unique! They could mend broken web but they couldn't mend burnt web! All those years, all the work their kind had done through the generations.

...It'd all gone up in smoke (literally).

"Eeee she broke the door!" Screamed another few, a number of 'brave' spiders scuttling towards the 'door' in a frantic attempt to mend it. They didn't care if she got stuck in here but they couldn't let anyone else in, their treasure would get angry if he woke up...if he was discovered!

"FIX IT!" Ordered another, joining the commotion as spiders flung themselves back and forth behind her while others attempted to weave around her feet - some even brave enough to creep up her hooves and fluffy hair. Were they trying to tie her down? They certainly didn't want her to go any further that was for sure...not if she wasn't going to destroy all their hard work.

"Don't let her get any further! Keep the monster away from the treasure," obviously a voice in charge as it held much more reason and strength than the other more frantic and panicked that had been present before hand. "We can't let her hurt it, we can't make master mad!" It continued, a web dropping from the ceiling as the spider perched firmly on it and (while it was difficult to see in the dark), pointed a tiny leg at the mare accusingly.

"You! You leave right now!"

`Swirly
As soon as one of the spider’s shrieked… ‘Naci did the same thing but in a much quieter choked manner. It felt like part of her voice had just boxed itself off and wasn’t going to let her talk. Slowly she breathed through her nostrils, snorting and making quite a bit of noise and echoing throughout the cave. Letting the noise reverberate all over the place. Her hooves were locked into place by the deadweight of her legs.

‘Naci figured that in all the panic anything she said would be easy to hear, her voice was a cracked and rather warped attempt to be easy. “Uhm.. Ye canna douse me in water.” Wait.. Would they understand her accent given that they well, lived in a cave. “No Water.” there.. That was the easiest to say given her accent. She looked over her shoulder and took another deep breath. Lighting the spiders around her hooves on fire didn’t bode well.

She felt bad about the door now.

‘Naci rotated her body around -very- carefully so as to not step on anything or one. Right now her mind was a bit of a muddle as to what precisely they meant by their treasure and why would they fix it when she was so obviously inside. Did they hide gold or something?

While the chaos was going on one spider looked up at her and told her to get out on no uncertain terms. Now, usually ‘Naci wasn’t disrespectful.. But they hadn’t been overly nice to her and the flaming mare didn’t take nicely to orders from rudeness. She snorted and lifted her eyes to the one that was still looking at her rather commandingly.

Now then, ‘Naci knew she had two choices right now. Either leave without question or continue on. Neither of them seemed to be quite right, so she’d stay put for now and talk to the spider that hung in her face like a cranky mother of sorts, “Uhm.. Would ye mind tellin’ me why? Besides .. Yer door I’ll nae hurt anythin’.” The mare did have to admit that starting things off by burning part of their home hadn’t really been the best of plans.

“I’ll leave when I please… but I promise not ter burn anything’ else.”

Paramekia Darkheart
Her movements caused a great ripple along the floor as spiders shifted and served away from her looming and devastating hoof. Her sheer size, regardless of ho lightly she said her hoof down would cause mass death if they should miscalculate her steps and so there was a great intake of 'breath' from the hoard of arachnids. It was an action that the leader, who now remained suspended above Ignacia's head was highly unimpressed by.

Was she trying to get them all killed?

"You have no reason to know, this is not your land now get out!" The spider snapped sharply, narrowing its many eyes as it fixed its gaze on the mare. Tone still firm, stance unchanging it was fully unprepared to allow her to advance further. In fact, the spider was fairly certain that if the spiders invaded her lands she would be most unhappy - stomped all over her treasure.

"You keep your muzzle out of our business and we will keep our's (figuratively speaking) out of yours." A spider didn't have noses after all, so keeping such a thing out of another's business was a little difficult. All the same, the point had to be made.

"This is not your cave and not your treasure, did your mother never teach you any manners?!"

`Swirly
She knew that moving around in the cave would be more than a bit difficult.. What else was there to do? Burn them alive or something? Gah, her temper was on the rise from being yelled at and if she couldn’t keep it in check her mane and tail would become true fire. Closing her eyes and counting down from ten.. Letting the words echo about in the less-than empty cave.. ‘Naci managed to get control of herself.

“Being sneaky doesna make me want ter leave.”

She had never found a place in the Soquili lands that she was truly unwanted. That meant not stumbling onto a Kalonas cave and such, but honestly.. Was there some sort of creature down there that was dangerous? She wanted to know. These spiders seemed different to her from the ones she found at home, perhaps it was them yelling at her that made them seem… less fearful? Hurting them would make her sad… Voices made people more real in her mind.

“All right.. I’ll keep my muzzle out of your business… but my business right now is in this cave.” A rush of adrenaline flew through her body, making her nerves sing with anxiety and thrill before she opened her mouth and yelled out…

“Helllo? IS ANYBODY DOWN THERE?” The echoes of her cry moved through the cave… ‘Naci wondered if something had heard her.

...to be continued - still in progress...
