Willow trees were so nice. They were one of the joys that Ju found in this world. They were so elegant, their thin branches hanging down so delicately. Though they looked weak, they were actually quite strong, and held to their tree very well. They sometimes reminded her of herself. Looking frail and weak, but being able to hold on and be strong.

This is how her thoughts wandered as she lay under one of her favourite willow trees, gazing out across the vast expanse in front of her. She was having quite a nice day and felt downright pleasant, which was a rare case for her.

Cyn Generis, lord of a grove that lay within the highest reaches of the mountains. Largely unknown, it was unsurprising that his existence was unimportant to the world that lay beyond the embrace of these thick pine forests. However, while not particularly curious about his surroundings this stallion was largely unaware of what even lay two inches in front of him and thus...had a rather sorry habit of wandering outside of his grove.

To say his luck was good was an understatement.

With his lack of sight it was a wonder that he even managed to get down the slopes without injury but as things went he found himself in an area that didn't smell like his forest and nor was it quite as chilly. It wasn't something that caused him alarm, but his fluffy ears did twitch within the ridiculously chunky locks of hair and he lifted his head to sniff at the foreign air.

It was oddly sweet.

Nevertheless, as he continued to walk he was more interested in the ticklish quality of the long grasses upon his thick fur. So accustomed to bushes and undergrowth it was a rather pleasant experience but alas... Unaware of what lay ahead of him it wasn't long before he had drifted towards this particular willow tree. There would be no doubt he would probably end up in the lake if he kept walking in the same manner but if he was honest, he wouldn't have cared anyway!

A lack of care for his still dusty fur and cob webbed hair should have been evidence of such things.

As she lay there, Ju heard the steps of something approaching. When she turned to look she was shocked to see a mass of black fur and hair and feathers, all covered in dust and cobwebs. As it got closer, it appeared to be a Soquili....but a very strange one.

She quickly stood up to face this other Soquili, and was a little alarmed at his appearance. Even more alarming was that he was heading straight for her, and seemed to have no intention of stopping. She took a few steps back, but felt her rump bump up against the trunk of the tree, and realized that she had no more room to back up. But he was still coming...

She squirmed a bit, taking in this strange Soquili, wondering what he was going to do with her, and why he hadn't stopped yet. He had already violated her personal space...

"Stop! What are you doing?!"

"Hrm?" It was the cry that had made him stop and midstep, hoof still raised he came to a halt. It took him a further few moments to set the hoof down and with a quiver of his ethereal wings his ears perked forward within the fluffy mane and pointed directly at her. It was a good thing his expression couldn't be seen given that he had arched a brow - not out of insult but more out of surprise...but one could never tell how a stranger would react to a simple facial expression.

"Oh..." Nostrils flaring, it was then and only then that he detected the faint smell of a mare and shook his head. Failing to back up at all, he instead held his ground and continued to point his muzzle towards her in an otherwise oblivious fashion. Completely unaware of her horn and it's potential dangerous, he really was an individual who was an accident waiting to happen!

"Apologies, I did not see you." He replied at last, releasing a slight chuckle as he stated what most would say was the obvious.

Ju scoffed.

"Well, of course you can't see. Maybe if you took better care of your mane, you might be able to see. Its quite rude, you know, walking around, not being able to see where you're going. You almost ran into me, you know."

She shifted to the side a bit, trying to get farther away from him. She got away from the trunk of the tree and moved outward. Now that she could see him more fully, she noticed that it wasn't only his mane that he had neglected.

"Ugh! What have you been doing all your life, hiding in a cave? You're covered in dust and cobwebs!"

The obvious carelessness that this stallion had for his appearance was almost insulting. How could he bring himself to face others when he looked like that?

Well...yes, would be the answer to her question but would it have been rude to agree? Cyn had rarely been able to follow the logic or train of thought of lowland soquili even when he had been an active socialite but he was fairly certain that agreeing to things usually annoyed people. Ah, to be asleep again - how he craved it so and yet at the same time something within him had already alerted him to the fact that he could not.

A storm was brewing in his life.

What was one more? By the sounds of things this mare was easily angered and he hadn't done anything! He may have been about to bump into her but he hadn't so was it necessary to continue chastising him? No would be his answer to that but he wasn't a lowland soquili so he could hardly predict what her answer would be! That being said it was rude for him to continue to remain so quiet and thus he spoke.

"Although I assume your question was rhetorical, you would be surprised at how terribly accurate it was," a mild smile formed on his lips at this and as if to emphasise the point the rather large spider began to descend from the very tip of his horn to peer at the mare through it's many eyes. Otherwise harmless, it swung back and forth on the breeze for a few moments as though assessing the situation.

"However one might say that my mane is in good condition - it is clean and carefully bound by cobweb braids...It may be thick, but that simply means it is warm to the touch. A valuable thing to possess in the mountains."

"Speaking of 'rude' though," well he might as well say it, "It is rude to immediately insult a stranger's appearance too, particularly when they make no reference to your own."

Ju shuddered at the sight of the large spider, and took a few more steps backwards. She listened to him answer her questions, and squirmed as the spider swung in the air.

"What do you mean, accurate? Have you been living in a cave?"

She scoffed again as he said that his mane was in good condition. She was just about to say something to the contrary, when he suddenly accused her of being rude. Her mouth hung open for a while as she thought about this. It wasn't the first time she had been called rude, and likewise, it wasn't the first time that it had taken her aback. She was so vigilant about pointing out somebody else's rudeness, but when she was accused of it, it always slapped her in the face.

"I-I'm sorry. I didn't mean to be rude...I just...you are very strange looking, you know. And I guess I was just nervous because you almost ran into me, and I didn't want to get dirty..."

"Ah, am I truly so filthy? My companions assured me it gave me an almost mythical air," Cyn's voice held a rather soothing quality to it that emphasised the fact that he wasn't quite as insulted as he should have been by her behaviour. If he looked untidy to some, then so be it! There was little he could do to fix that and he was perfectly comfortable with how he was now... So she didn't go for the magical look - meaning she must have been more inclined towards a soquili of the younger generations.

Not a loss, if he was honest.

Nevertheless as she apologised a ghost of a smile did flicker onto his lips. It was impossible to tell whether or not this reached his eyes but given his general appearance and the air about him it was possible to guess in a most accurate manner. She was right in a way, he had been rude in not watching where he was going but it seemed that his spider companion had chosen to go off duty for that moment and hadn't warned him either.

Just poor luck.

"As to your question - yes, I have been." He replied simply before releasing a small chuckle, "A rather comfortable place to snooze, might I add."

She lowered her head a bit, ashamed that she had made it sound like such a bad thing. Well, he was dirty...but when he said 'filthy' it just sounded so much more....harsh.

"I'm sorry...again, I didn't mean any offense. And I guess you're not filthy. I never said that...but just a little dusty."

When he mentioned that he lived in a cave, she was surprised. She was even more surprised when he said it was comfortable. She knew many words that she might use to describe a cave, but 'comfortable' was never one of them.

"How is it comfortable? Isn't it all rocks?"

Ah, he had always been under the impression that dust had created an air of mystery about an individual. While he couldn't see the extent of the dust upon his form he had trusted his eight legged companions and in turn they had sworn to ensure he remained suitably composed. So he wasn't filthy, that was good news but he could excuse his companions in the sense that he wasn't certain they could dust...And besides, spider webs held his hair in place rather well.

"That comes with age," he pointed out calmly, offering a wry smile as she continued along the topic of conversation that related to his living quarters. Yes, they were unusual to most soquili but he was hardly' most' soquili and thus he was permitted to defy stereotype. One who was less than fond of the light, he found himself more inclined to welcome the embrace of the shadows while also returning the ice touched kisses of the mountain's chilled gales.

Truth be told, a cave was suitably more comfortable than other places during certain seasons and weather conditions.

"That would depend entirely on where you sleep, m'lady," he added after a few moments of careful consideration, "Plants do grow within the depths of caves, they often provide comfortable bedding."

Well, you learn something new every day. She had no idea that there were plants in the caves. She had no idea that there was anything that could be described as 'pleasant' inside the caves. She considered what it might be like, taking these plants into consideration. She was about to ask how he saw in there, but seeing as he couldn't really see out here, that was a pointless question.

"But what about all the...bugs, and the slimy animals?"

Looking to his horn at the dangling spider, she shrugged and assumed that he really didn't mind the bugs. But she honestly couldn't imagine falling asleep in a place where large bugs and pale, scaly animals could crawl all over her, doing whatever they wanted while she slept. She shuddered at the thought.

[[Nori I only have one thing to say - holy s**t Zian is awesome]]

Cyn had never really taken the time to consider the bugs and creatures that lurked within the catacombs. They had never bothered him, had went about their daily business and those aware of his presence and his desires had respected them. He would be the first to claim that the insects were some of the most misunderstood creatures within this world given how so few seemed to appreciate them. Alas, he wasn't entirely certain as to how to address that subject in much a direct manner so he cast it aside.

"They rarely interrupt my reverie," he replied at last, shifting his head slightly. This movement caused the spider to sway ever so slightly but it maintained its balance with surprising ease. "The spiders provided me with company, one cannot complain about that," he continued, a small smile lifting his lips as he made reference to the creatures that had 'guarded' his secret for many years.

"Am I to assume you dislike such things?"

((Thanks!!! I love him!!! ))

She shifted uneasily again as the spider swung from the other's horn.

"Well, there are certain ones that I dislike. Like that spider. I hate spiders. They scare me."

She felt a shiver along her spine as the spider crawled around. It was the creepy movement of its long legs that scared her so much. She just didn't like the way it creeped and crawled all over the place. She tried to divert her attention away from the spider, changing the subject.

"So, how long have you been up there, in the cave?"
PostPosted: Mon Jan 21, 2008 1:46 am

"Spiders are nothing to be concerned with," Having lived in the company of spiders all of his life, the stallion was uncertain of how any could be so frightened of something so small. Perhaps it was due to the fact that both he and the aracnids were kindred spirits, that they had both made arrangements to benefit one another...but not once had this Angeni ever been afraid of them.

"They are as you and I are, surviving in their own way though they may not look the same," his words ended here, the smile on his lips difficult to discern in terms of how genuine it may have been. Ah, when they said that eyes were the windows to the soul they were not lying! So hard it was to detect a lie when they couldn't be seen.

"As for how long I have existed in such a place..." He faltered at this, recalling only why he had entered the cave and chosen to enter his reverie. To ask how long it had been was much the same as asking him to count all the grains of sand upon the beach within an hour. In all honesty he had no clue how long he had resided in that location and consequently, he could find no answer.

"Many generations of my kind have passed away during his sleep." The spider spoke up, the voice scarcely audible given the size of the owner, "Many, many years have passed."
