Ah, he'd lost count of how many rules had been given to him by his mother. His father had said nothing, simply listened to his mother as she had gone on endlessly about what to do and what not to do while in the lowlands. Ambroise had of course, come with a chaperone in the form of his father but as was custom with all his family, his chaperone permitted him a wide area to play in and rarely 'appeared' so to speak.
Truth be told, Grencia had taken to walking on the small hillock along side the babe as he attempted to find his way down the slopes and in doing so, ensured that his son remained safe. There were no arguments in that regard, Grencia was particular good at his duties as a father and was rarely far away from his children - they may not see him but he was to remain a permanent fixture until they had reached what he would consider the 'coming of age' mark.
...For this particular babe it wouldn't be for a while.
Thus, it was with an oblivious prance that the little foal continued on his way down the snow ridden slopes and found himself amidst the trees and foliage. Quite the change from his ordinary home, he could do nothing more than release a squeal of delight before ploughing into the nearest fern, only to scramble to his feet again at the sight of another.
Pfft, he had come down here with a goal in mind but that seemed far from his mind at this particular moment in time as he drifted between the various plants.
So much for meeting the relatives then...

Walking through the woods could be a rather frightening experience for a small foal all on her own. Even with the bright snow fall coating the naked branches--save for the pines which shed their needles in the summer time--and the thick layer that settled around Caelyndei's fetlocks the woods still seemed a dark and mysterious place. To adults who may have felt serene ambiance the raven splashed filly felt mystery and a looming sense of unknown.
Too many strange scents filled her flaring nostrils and various noises seemed to approach from all angles causing her ears to swivel like slender radar dishes in constant movement. It was easy for her overactive imagination to be carried away to a far more frightening place with little provocation at all. Maybe it was all in her mind, but at the moment the spindly foal didn't care to find out.
It had started with a sound. A sound like breathing as her own came in short busts of mist from her muzzle. From there each exhale grew more vivid until she could see the rows of gleaming teeth. A lolling pink tongue and dusty, earth colored maw which curled around each pant. Moments later a pair of golden, glowing eyes peered from the depths of her mind within a lupine head.
Caely's heart rate jumped several paces as she walked along, treading lightly, attention straining.
Then came the scraping of clawed paws in the snow and hot breath on her haunches. A chill rode down the length of Caelyndei's spine, her fur bristling with horror. Maybe it was only her imagination getting the better of her, but whether it was or it wasn't the tiny filly didn't take the time to look. Large jade eyes rolled in her head with fright, squealing shrilly as she kicked into a gallop, hind legs springing her forward as gangly limbs stretched as far as they could reach with each thrashing stride. Fear rising in her throat, threatening to strangle her as her breath seemed to catch in her chest.
In the now current frame of time tiny chest heaved, legs buckling as they weakened with the stress of maintaining the rash pace, gaze desperate on a small line of bushes. The edge of the forest? If she could make it into the open she'd certainly be safe. No wolf would attempt to hunter her in such unprotected space, right? Caely's nose was raw and frost covered the white velvet of the tip of her muzzle from where her heavy breathing had caused droplets to freeze.
Lowering her head as she neared the hedges tiny shoulders squared, bursting through the leaves in a powdery spray of snow. Almost immediately as she broke though did the chocolate and ebony filly strike a rather solid object which caused her to topple tail over nose and slide on her back across the frozen ground, hooves flailing. Resisting the urge to cry, Caely sniffed and hiccuped breathlessly. Oooo-ikk-ooo-ikk-owwww!!

The impact was a surprisingly powerful one and the tiny colt when tumbling backwards when struck. This wasn't to say he had been completely floored, winded by the initial 'attack' but it did take rather a long time for him to recover. Thus, he sat on his rump, tail swishing back and forth against the snowy carpet while his mind attempted to catch up with the body that had already flown a few inches away without any warning.
Really, his mind was in half a mind to chastise his body for performing such a disobedient act. The mind had specifically informed the body that it was in charge now that they were out in the open and the body had refused? Well it simply wouldn't stand for that at all!
Blinking rapidly, the colt at last blinked a few times to regain his composure and fixed his gaze upon that which had struck him so abruptly. Baby blue eyes shifted towards the now hiccuping filly and he could do nothing but blink a little more. Good grief but she looked odd, she was all spotty as though she had been playing in the mud. Well figuratively speaking, Ambroise had yet to leap in to any mud given that practically everything upon the mountain was frozen solid!
"Is that a real word?" He asked at last, his tiny voice high given he had yet to be struck by puberty. It really made him quite adorable, the 'sage-like' expression combined with the high pitched voice simply didn't match but it was who he was. Intelligent eyes remained fixed on the filly following his question, though he did take measures to push himself to his hooves so that he wasn't sat at the most awkward angle...horses weren't meant to sit anyway.
"Or did you just make that up?" Apparently he wasn't accustomed to pain and fear just yet either...

Several moments of wheeling limbs later, Caelyndei finally flopped over onto her side, exhausted. She might have looked dead if not for the fact that her side rose and fell rapidly as the frantic filly attempted to catch her breath, small tendrils of mist curling from her nostrils and rising into the air where they dissipated in the cold. Steam billowed off her disheveled pelt which was damp with sweat from her frantic rush.
Attempting to lift her head off the ground, small backside ached where her backside had been scraped up from her sliding across the unforgiving earth. Out of the corner of her eye she could barely make out the form of a small Soquili about her size before her head fell back to the ground with a soft thump. Small hiccups made her body jump and it took all her effort to push her cheek against the snow to get a better look at the colt she had plowed through in her hurry.
W-whaaaa-ikk-aaaah? Caelyndei whimpered dazedly, the high-pitched voice that greeted her sounded far more collected than she would have expected for their fly-by encounter.

It was official, every last one of the Kawani land soquili spoke absolute gibberish except for his parents and perhaps his siblings. This little fact was completely unavoidable and while unfortunate, Ambroise could only assume that he would have to take measures to 'fix' this little problem. Unfortunately, he wasn't entirely certain of where to learn such a peculiar language given that his father didn't speak it either!
"What?" He asked again, tilting his head to the side as she spoke more gibberish. It was only on closer inspection that he took note of her quivering sides and her overall exhausted form. This in itself made him raise a brow and he could do nothing more than stare. How rude, his mother would be horrified.
"Are you alright?" His words were final, he wasn't accustomed to social encounters and thus he struggled to find the appropriate words for the given circumstances. No doubt when he matured he would know exactly how to handle himself but this was the first soquili he had encountered outside of his family!
...It never really struck him to ask if she would like some help.
