❁SOLO ROLEPLAY❁
To Be a Ysali Kamala turns to an old enemy for guidance.
With some supplication, some reasoning, and some contrition, Kamala asks her ex-enemy to teach her Ysali magic.
From "By the Lake"...
The Ysali dragon turned to look at Kamala, and she caught sight of a scar on his snout. A moment later, the nearby bush rustled and a smaller Ysali dragon emerged, a mere child.
"Oh," Kamala said. "It's you."
"Hey -- wait up!" Kamala stumbled as she tried to keep the Ysali dragons in her sight. They knew the forest well, taking twists and turns through bushes with an easy familiarity. Kamala supposed that after the rest of their pack had run into her, they had decided to move somewhere far, far away, in hopes of never seeing her again.
Well, too bad for them. It might have been an accident that they'd saved her life, but she intended to thank them for it. "I'm not going to hurt you, I swear," Kamala called for the umpteenth time. "I don't hurt children." Inwardly, she winced at the phrasing; so was she just going to wait for the kid to grow up before hunting them down?
The dragons showed no signs of slowing down, and Kamala suspected that they were leading her in circles, unwilling to let her know where they lived. Snorting, Kamala suddenly changed directions, off the path of pursuit. Scarred Snout stopped, the child running into his tail in his haste. He sniffed the air.
Suddenly, Kamala dropped down right in front of him, a newly dead bouken in her jaws. Scar jumped, and Scar Jr. made himself very small behind his father. Kamala dumped the bouken in front of Scar, nudging it toward him, and he regarded suspiciously.
"I want your help," Kamala said. Scar stared at her then to the bouken, then back again, evidently perplexed. Kamala tried to look as humble as possible, which was difficult for her. "I want to learn Ysali magic. You're a Ysali dragon, and I'm a Ysali Drakein -- it's like we're cousins, right?"
Scar gave her a look of withering scorn and, in one smooth movement, scooped up the proffered bouken while turning to dash away again. Scar Jr. anxiously followed, nearly tripping on his father's heels in his efforts to keep close.
Kamala growled and took after them again. "Please, I need your help!" she said, ducking a low hanging branch. "I -- I don't know what to do." An idea came to her, a way to appeal to Scar's survival instincts. "If you teach me, I can help you guard your territory from the Peisio dragons, or any other people or Drakeins who intrude on your land." Scar glanced back at that, but did not slow his pace.
"Please." Kamala did not like begging, but somehow felt it was the right thing to do in this situation. Part of the right thing to do. There was more that was needed. "You don't even have to do anything. Just let me watch you, let me see how you do what you do. I'll each myself."
The dragon ducked through another bush, and Kamala almost lost sight of him. She swore. Why was he being so difficult? She flashed back to their first meeting, and their second then third. Well, everybody had a history...
Scar made another difficult turn, sort of around a tree and under a root, and Junior couldn't keep up. He fell flat on his snout. Kamala's shadow suddenly loomed all around him, and when he looked up, Kamala stared calmly down at him. Junior whimpered.
Scar reappeared, hissing at the sight of the Drakein over his son. Slowly, Kamala lowered her head toward the child dragon, and Scar sprung forward in action.
"Up you get,"Kamala said, nudging Junior back to standing position. Scar immediately was between Junior and Kamala, pushing his son away. His urgency was lost, however, and he regarded Kamala with a new curiosity amid the suspicion. Kamala kept her gaze on Junior, but she spoke to Scar. "I'm...sorry about before. What happened.
Scar turned away, but stopped as Kamala continued. "I know my apology doesn't fix anything." Kamala paused, unsure what to say next. "But I'm...I'm really sorry."
After a moment's silence, during which Kamala wondered what more she could say, Scar made a little harrumphing noise. With a clucking noise to the son, Scar began to trot away again at a moderate pace. Kamala knew to take what she could get, and with a meekness that was new to her, she followed.
