Kamala's eyes opened upon grey, windy skies, so different from the cerulean blue of Serenia. For a moment, Kamala simply blinked lazily at the sight, lost in a pleasant post-sleep daze. Then, a not so pleasant dull ache crept into the base of her skull, and she groaned.

Those damn Ayrala dragons! The memories of what had happened right before she'd passed out came flashing back. Kamala became unpleasantly aware of the hardness of the ground beneath her head. She could feel a particularly pointy stone poking into her shoulder. Gingerly, she picked herself up off the floor, growling as she shook her head. Another memory came back to her, and she checked the travel bag strapped to her side, relaxing once more upon feeling the Ayrala dragon orb within. Well, at least that encounter wasn't a total loss.

Kamala was beginning to get the sense that these dragons were just grumpy old cranks who hated anyone not dragon-y on sight. Still, she didn't want to make assumptions simply based on a single encounter of Ayrala dragons in Ayr territory. They were known to be very territorial, after all. Perhaps that was why those two Ayrala dragons had wandered all the way to Serenia -- they'd done something that caused them to become outcast by the other Ayrala dragons from their usual territory. Or they could have even been scouting for new territory themselves. Or, they could have been lost. Simple explanations were sometimes the best ones.

Kamala decided to give the dragons one more chance to make nice with her. She was not so different from them, after all. Her race was the fastest flyers of the Drakeins, and their clan was also the fastest flyers of the dragons. She disdained two-leggers, they hated them.

With these thoughts in her mind, Kamala took off into the delightfully windy skies. She would look for another Ayrala dragon, and go from there.

Ayr was a fairly small continent compared to Eowyn and Serenia, and it did not take Kamala long to cross from coast to coast. She supposed that the continent -- or island, really, albeit an island on the larger end of things -- was probably long in one way and then narrow in the other, and that Kamala was flying back and forth across the narrow way. At least, she kept seeing the ocean. Another possibility was that she kept getting turned around. Normally Kamala was fairly certain in her ability to navigate, even in unexplored territory, but in this awful fog Kamala could barely be confident she was still going in a straight line.

That was the reason she'd tell herself later on how they got the drop on her so easily. One moment, Kamala was doing her own thing just flying along, trying to get some bearing based on the patterns of certain mist clouds. The next second, shadowy figures swooped around her above, below, to all sides -- Kamala didn't know where to look. Her wings flapped erratically, suddenly forced to compensate; the winds were becoming strange again. "Oh, no you don't!" Kamala said, her words lost in the wind, but the conviction remained. Straining, she forced her wings flat against her sides and corkscrewed downward -- straight into one of the dragons.

It was an Ayrala, as to be expected. The dragon let out an undignified squawk as Kamala barreled into him, disrupting his contributions to the wind cage that had been forming around the Alkein. Kamala unfurled her wings in triumph, effectively stopping her dive instantly. The dragon was less coordinated than she, falling a few more meters before regaining his bearings with a few awkward flaps.

"What is wrong with you creatures?" Kamala shouted. "I haven't done anything to you!" Another Ayrala dragon zipped by, claws up and out, and Kamala dodged it narrowly. Then a third flew to her right, then a fourth to her left. The first dragon hovered below. Four Ayrala dragons in all, and they all appeared to be hostile. Kamala locked her jaw, steeled her eyes in a narrowed battler's gaze. "But if it's a fight you want," she growled through clenched teeth, "then it's a fight you will get."

The Ayrala dragons did not seem overly impressed by Kamala's little declaration of war. They had the look of silent predators, like reptilian bird of preys. They were as fast as they were silent, too, and Kamala was grimly once again reminded how their speed actually outmatched hers. She wondered why she'd even tried to make nice with them. Even if she had somehow become best buddies with them with the sparklyy magic of friendship, she'd have killed one of them eventually over a lost race or something.

They launched themselves after her all at once and Kamala threw herself in a series of dodges. "Ohhh, I see, you're all too scared to take me on just one by one so you gotta come at me all at once like the cowardly -- ack!" Her taunt was cut off by a well-timed headbutt to the stomach that sent her reeling through the air, gasping for breath. She flapped her wings to steady herself, then with a more purposeful powerful beat, launched herself back into the fray. The Ayrala dragon snarled and dodged to the right, quick as lightning, but Kamala was already learning to anticipate their superior speed. She aimed to the right with an undercut swipe, catching the Ayrala dragon full in the throat. He died with an anguished cry gurgling behind his eviscerated neck. Kamala neatly caught the dropping Ayrala dragon orb with her forepaw and tucked it securely in her bag.

Unlike the Ysali dragons, the Ayrala dragons did not seem overcome with grief by their kinsman's death. She did notice, however, a certain change in their focus. Their eyes had become razor sharp, and gave Kamala an uncomfortable feeling in her stomach. Or maybe that was just from the earlier blow she had taken to the gut.

Two of the dragons sped at her at once, and she could feel one coming from behind. Quickly analyzing the scenario, Kamala flattened her wings to her side once again and dropped through the air. One of the dragons sheered away to the side, but two of them met head on. In their confusion, claws were swiped and flesh was torn. One of the Ayralas caught in the tussle managed to get his teeth around the other's head, and skull crunched between his powerful jaws. Kamala oriented herself below the fight and caught the falling orb directly with her bag.

With their numbers severely depleted and one of the dragons severely injured from the accidental friendly fire, the dragons apparently reached the conclusion that Kamala was not the easy prey they had thought she would be. They met eyes with Kamala, and she glared back. Then they turned tail and fled.

Kamala gave chase. The uninjured one was likely too fast for her to catch, but the other flew in slight zigzags, drifting from side to side in a highly inefficient manner. Kamala easily caught up and, with a powerful slash through the back, severed his spine. Since she was coming from above, she actually had to dive to catch the resulting orb.

The other dragon had stopped its retreat to watch his final companion's defeat, impassively. Kamala looked up at him, and bared her teeth. "Go, and tell the others. If I see another one of your ugly mugs, I will wipe out your entire clan." Kamala flew off in the other direction, satisfied when she felt nobody following. Apparently, Ayr was done with her. Well, the feeling was mutual. It was time to go home.
