The windy winds of Ayr were definitely a lot of fun to fly through -- but the constant battering of gusts pulling Kamala back and forth drained her energy significantly. Furthermore, she wasn't used to flying so long at such a high altitude, considering that she'd fought off four Ayrala dragons while in flight and then hadn't bothered to take a rest on Ayr itself before taking her leave of the place. The thinness of the air was getting to her.
Therefore, although she really wanted nothing more than to return straight home to Serenia, Kamala knew realistically she needed to make a pit stop somewhere. Eowyn was the most logical choice. It was well into the early hours of the morning when Kamala finally reached the northern shore of Eowyn. She allowed herself to glide across the finally still skies over the Malro Desert, legs practically crumpling beneath her in exhaustion as they touched the tips of the sand dunes. The sand, white beneath the fading moonlight, felt soft and cool between her claws. Kamala rolled down the mound of sand on which she had landed, reveling in its coolness. She curled up where she fell at the bottom of the dune, and with a great yawn, fell into a deep slumber.

Kamala could feel the glare of the bright Malro sun through the thin skin of her eyelids even before she had the chance to open them. She squinted as she spat sand out of her mouth where it had somehow sifted its way in, using her long tongue to clean any stray particles from her teeth. The sand around her was no longer cool; on the contrary, it was burning hot. Kamala picked herself up, noting vaguely that the sand beneath her belly at least was still body temperature.
Kamala spat out another glob of sand, and realized that she could barely spit out anything any more. Her mouth felt unbearably dry. She looked up at the cloudless sky, partially shading her eyes with a wing so that she could look at the sun through the filter of pink feathers. The sun was so high in the sky; it must be noon or near enough, Kamala estimated. She let her tongue roll out, panting slightly. The inside of her mouth felt all grainy. She needed water. But where to find water in a desert?
Well, Kamala thought as she looked all around her, she wouldn't find water just standing here. Sand stretched on all sides as far as she could see. Kamala didn't fancy getting any closer to that hot sun, but what was necessary was necessary. She kicked off into the sky -- a slightly harder task than usual due to the slipperiness of the sand -- and circled higher, searching anywhere for a spot of water.
After a few minutes, she spotted an oasis not too far away, and took off for it eagerly. As she drew closer, however, her expectant grin faded and was replaced by a pensive frown. There were already three figures resting by the oasis, draconic and covered with sharp edges. They were Kiandri dragons. Two of them seemed fairly normal sized, but one was huge, easily twice the size of an average Kiandri. Kamala wondered if maybe he had eaten a twin brother in the womb or something.

Kamala observed the scene from a bird's eye view.
The huge Kiandri dragon obviously made the other two Kiandri just as nervous as he made Kamala feel. The big guy was by the deep end of the oasis, in the prime spot: more and better water, and plenty of shade cast by the desert trees which apparently found the spot as agreeable as the huge Kiandri did. The other two Kiandri dragons, in contrast, were clustered together as if for comfort at the other, shallow end of the pool, where the water ran thin and brown with mud. They lapped the tiny stream with a meekness that made Kamala "hrrmph!" with disdain.
Well, Kamala had to land sooner or later and as much as she was just raring to test her mettle against a monster Kiandri dragon, dehydrated and worn out from her trip to Ayr as she was, Kamala knew that she had to proceed with caution. She took a few seconds to start formulating a plan, decided she was too thirsty to even think coherently, discarded it, and swooped down with her hind claws extended toward the two smaller Kiandri dragons. At least she'd had the sense to aim for the right side of the pool.
The littler Kiandri dragons didn't stand a chance. Kamala pushed all her weight downward as she landed on the dragon's back, feeling him disintegrate under her feet instantly. The second dragon looked startled by her sudden appearance from above, and he died with that expression on his face as Kamala reached out and grabbed him by the neck. The larger Kiandri dragon's attention was caught from the other side of the oasis. He roared like the grumble of oncoming thunder, and charged.
Kamala swiftly grabbed the two Kiandri dragon orbs from the shallow bottom of the pool, tossing them in her bag, and took off. Not at her full speed though -- just fast enough to stay ahead of the larger Kiandri. He roared again, incensed by the flicking tip of Kamala's golden and crimson feathered tail. Kamala let the chase go on for a few minutes before corkscrewing upward and out of sight.
When she backtracked to the oasis, the large Kiandri was nowhere in sight -- probably still looking for her. He would be back soon, though. Kamala wasted no time, dipping her head toward the pure water and gulping as much of it as she could down.
