It wasn't even a matter of the oasis anymore. As with most things for Kamala, it had become a matter of pride. She realized how silly she had been now, to think of making a home here in the desert. She was a creature of the forests and the swamps, where there was enough water for green everywhere and boukens and other tasty things that bled juicy redness. She was sick of this desert with its dryness and heat-hardened occupants, and she would take her leave -- but not before proving to herself that she wasn't a coward.

It stung that she had run away. In her younger days, Kamala might have attacked the giant Kiandri dragon outright, despite the enormous disadvantage. There had definitely been a part of her itching to do so -- and who knows, she might have won through sheer luck and persistence, like in that fearsome battle against six dragons in the Serenian woods. But that had been a narrow escape from death, and now a little older and wiser, Kamala had learned how to bide her time. The giant Kiandri dragon was out of her league to comfortably handle. First, she would train.

Kamala took to the skies like the feathered predator that she was, scanning the desert below for any signs of life. She flew for a good long while. Somehow, her body must have been acclimatizing to the hotness of the bare sun, because though it still felt hot, it no longer felt burning. Finally, she spotted two Kiandri dragons. She landed right in front of them, and they drew up short, inspecting this new pink gold green feathered oddity barging her way into their business.

"Hello," Kamala said politely. "I need your souls please." Then she launched into action.

These two Kiandri dragons were no where near as large as Kamala's giant nemesis, but didn't seem quite as small as others either. Kamala supposed because they took care of their own instead of being forced to serve the giant, they were healthier specimens. No matter. Kamala aimed for their throats again, having learned where the softest spots were on these hard desert creatures.

They shimmered, as if caught by a heat wave, and when Kamala blinked they were no longer in front of her. She cursed, scanning the desert for her prey. Something whooshed toward her right wing, and she immediately ducked, rolling on the smooth sand to avoid the blow. These dragons were a little trickier than she had thought they would be! Kamala did another dive roll to get out from under the flashing claws of the two Kiandri dragons, obviously taking mortal offense to her attack. Kamala darted forward again, using her wings for an extra burst of speed.

The Kiandri dragons shimmered again, and one of them disappeared as before -- but the other was not fast enough. Kamala caught him in the neck, and grinning, she swiped downward, ripping through the entire soft underside of him. He vanished, but never to reappear in another location -- a Kiandri dragon orb appeared in his place.

But there was still the matter of the other dragon. This one -- a female -- launched herself at Kamala's back before the Alkein could react. She tried to dodge it, but the Kiandri latched onto her shoulders. There was a huge weight upon her and she felt she could scarcely breathe. A growl rumbled by her ear. Panicking, Kamala flapped her wings and rose into the air. The Kiandri dragon dropped away, jostled by the flapping wings, and snarled his distaste at her retreat.
