.:Failed Flight:.
The all too familiar scream tore through the air. Down at the feeding grounds a green was blooding her kill, and eager males gathered around to watch. A few of them even started blooding their own kills to ready themselves for the upcoming flight. S’ren watched the scene with only passive interest and was about to move on when he felt an inquiring mental nudge from Tereth.
Do you wish to chase?Do you mind?S’ren looked back over at the green again, trying to remember who the rider was. He was
pretty sure it was a female though.
Not at all. Have fun. The response from the brown was pleased, and he soon swooped in to join the other males in waiting.
Meanwhile the green was already blooding her third kill. Her hide was glowing brilliantly by this point, and with a lift of her head she bugled out her challenge to the dragons gathered about. The flight began, and there was a flurry of dragon wings rising into the open air.
S’ren was no longer just S’ren, for he was now Tereth as well. He watched through dragonic eyes as they all gave chase to the agile green. She did flips in mid-air, taunting her following as they tried to keep up with her. It didn’t matter. Swift though she may be, he was stronger. Just had to wait for the right moment.
Eventually the green began to lose steam, and that was when he struck. The few who were left now powered forward. Tereth swooped down from above, but the green still managed to roll side-ways to evade. To the side that she rolled however waited another dragon. The older and more experience brown was able to catch the green easily from there, and there was a second scream before S’ren came back to his own senses.
I hadn’t even noticed Pierth was there, he thought in a slight daze, dispersing with the rest of the disappointed riders. Now herein lay the downfall to a mating flight: the tense aftermath. He felt about ready to explode.
I was so close too, Tereth said mournfully to his partner as he flew back to their weyr.
You need to go find someone. I don’t think a cold bath will do it this time.I know, I know. I’m going.
