Admittedly, it was always hot at Trine Weyr, but some days were noticeably worse than others. This was one of those days. After flying around and about in riding gear for several hours, Tereth and S'ren both were more than willing to take a nice cool swim in the lake.

Wait, at least drop me off on the ground so that I can take off the riding gear, S'ren insisted when he noticed that the brown had been making a beeline for the water.

Very well then, Tereth replied, clearly disappointed by the small detour as he adjusted his flight to land on the shore. Do move quickly though. The water is calling to me.

And you think I feel any different? he thought back with a small laugh, giving his dragon's neck an affectionate slap as they neared the ground. This riding gear is great for Between, but the rest of the time I feel like I'm melting in it.

The pair landed next to the water with ease, and it was with much speed that S'ren undid the riding straps and climbed down off of the dragon. The moment his rider's feet hit the ground, Tereth bounded off into the cool water with a large splash, eyes whirling bright green in pleasure and relief. Then, to tease his partner, he said, You are slow, Mine.

"Oi! Stop saying that!" he replied back with a small smirk, taking off his riding gear and setting it off to the side as quickly as he could. "I'll be with you in a moment." The dragon just let out an amused rumble, wading in deeper so that he could submerge himself.

"Now can we go Mine? I wish to swim, I have been waiting all day to swim, and you are stopping me!"

"Opeth, love, shut it will you?" Xan flashed a grin as she stepped out of her weyr and gave the blue a slap on the shoulder. "All I did was ditch our gear and pull on something a bit more comfortable; anyone would think I'd spent six candlemarks doing up my hair the way you're going on."

"Mrrrr, fine then," the blue groused as his rider climbed onto his back. "Hold tightly to my ridges," he went on, spreading his wings, "I will not accept the blame if you fall off."

"Yea yea," Xan snorted, "I'm hanging- waaaaaah!" One moment her dragon was just flexing his pinions, the next he was shooting into the sky like an arrow; only a death grip on his neck ridges and thigh muscles that could crack nuts stopped her parting company with him at the word go. "Oh very funny!" the black-haired woman pouted as Opeth's flight leveled out. "Everyone is really impressed with your- aaaaaaaaaaaah!"

"Going down," the blue smirked as he swooped sharply towards the surface of one of the lakes. As much fun as scaring his rider was, however, he didn't want to hurt her, or himself for that matter, and so he leveled off his dive and skimmed over the water's surface. Once he felt he was going slowly enough to avoid injury he twisted abruptly in the air, causing Xan to lose her grip at last and land in the lake with a loud splash. "Next time," the blue broadcasted to his rider and any dragons who might be nearby, "don't hold me up when I want a swim."

Xan broke the surface and gasped in a lungful of air, a deep scowl on her face. "Opeth you evil little wher I'll get you for this!" As she finished her threat, however, she couldn't help grinning; at least he'd come up with a vaguely fun-loving way to punish her.

"Just to let you know," Opeth went on, diving into the water himself, "Tereth and his rider saw all of that."

"Hu-wah? Oh thanks Opeth." Giving a snort of amusement, Xan turned her head to locate S'ren and then paddled off towards him. "Afternoon," she called, "hope you don't mind me dropping in on you like this."

That was quite the amusing scene honestly. S'ren had just stepped into the water when Opeth and Xan flew overhead, his rider letting out a scream as the Blue made a sharp dive down toward the water. At the ungraceful fall and splash into the water caused by the abrupt twist of her dragon, S'ren couldn't help but laugh. Opeth may have often been a bit of a sourpuss, but clearly even he knew how to have fun. "Hello, Xan," the brownrider greeted back with a smile, trying not to look too amused as he swam to meet half-way. "Why would I mind? you should drop in like that more often I believe."

Tereth was also highly amused by the spectacle, giving an approving and amused rumble in response to the aerial stunt. Very nice work. I shall have to try that move myself sometime, he remarked to the Blue, although his words were not lost to his rider.

"Oi! Don't you be getting any ideas, Tereth," the rider said with a laugh, sending a small that dragon's way even though he was no where near close enough to actually get him. The Brown's eyes simply whirled merrily, still highly amused by the whole thing.

"Mmfh, I doubt you are agile enough to pull it off," Opeth told the brown bluntly, allowing himself to sink to the bottom and working his feet into the lake-bed. "At least none of them are hanging around here," the blue went on, his desire to grouse about the Benden dragons overcoming his usual stoicism. "They act as though they own this Weyr. They have no right."

"Well, maybe I will," Xan exclaimed with a grin, "I think that could actually be good fun if I was expecting it. Not that Opeth would do it if I was expecting it, not unless I seriously bribed or blackmailed him anyways..." Her lifemate's mention of the Benden brigade tugged her mood down abruptly, and the rider gave a heavy sigh; she'd been managing not to think about them all day, too. "So how are you and Tereth?" she asked after a moment. "You noticed anything... odd?"

Opeth was probably correct on the agility thing, but before Tereth could even reply to that the Blue brought up the Benden dragons, souring his mood instantly. There wasn't much that made the Brown upset, but the Invaders and their dragons were high up there on the list. They need to learn respect, he replied, eyes whirling orange and red as he remembered some of the things he had heard. Their disrespect and slandering of their fellow dragons must be put to a stop. He was referring of course to the fact that many of those from Benden openly put down Atypicals. Although not one himself, the Brown would not tolerate such discrimination against colors.

His partner's sudden downward shift in mood change caught S'ren off guard, but when he heard what they were talking about he understood. He held no love loss for the Benden Healers and riders himself, but his dragon had taken a particularly strong aversion to them. "We've been alright, all things considered," he replied. The brownrider chuckled faintly at the inquiry though. "That's a rather vague question, don't you think? Although in answer to your question, yes, I suppose I may have witnessed something a bit odd. I assume from your question that something has caught your attention as well?"

"Mmm... Yea." A deep frown spread across Xan's face and she shook her head slightly; she probably shouldn't say too much before she talked to G'an... Oh, shells, what harm could it do? So long as S'ren and Tereth kept it to themselves it's be no issue. "V'tur and I saw a Benden brown rider fighting with a black rider, I guess it was sparked by their dragons nearly crashing into each other earlier. Th brown rider should just have apologised, it was his dragon that nearly squashed the black, and he ought to have been watching himself in a Weyr that isn't his own anyways. Still, yea, Opeth and I are going to talk to G'an about it presently; 'till then could you keep it to yourself? I don't want this to spread into some massive rumor."

"Mmmmm," Opeth flashed his teeth, his eyes flashing brighter orange. "This is not their place," he elaborated, "they should be made to leave. They and those healers have no right to hang around Trine, let alone Trine clutches. It is not acceptable." And yet it was being accepted. He still thought they should just be driven off, politics or no politics.

S'ren was quite surprised to hear news of a fight between the riders. Fortunately it didn't sound as if it had escalated into anything too terrible. "No need to worry, we won't share this with others," the brownrider assured her. "It is probably wise that you are bringing this to your wingleader's attention though. Have you any idea who the riders were?"

Tereth let out a snort after Opeth had finished, his own eyes still whirling in agitation. Visitors are fine so long as they come in the proper fashion. Simply appearing at another's Weyr, however, and then proceeding to do nothing but stir trouble is not. No, the Brown did not think kindly of the Invaders' actions and words whatsoever. It was beyond him as to why they were even being permitted to stay really. Human politics were such a troublesome and nonsensical mess.

"Mmmh, yea," Xan nodded, "V'tur and I are going to approach him tomorrow; seems he's busy today and we don't want to make it obvious we're pulling him aside... I didn't know the brown rider other than to know he's a Benden man, and honestly I don't know the black's name. I recognize him, but you know I don't think I've ever spoken to the guy..." You couldn't know everyone in the whole Weyr, but she suddenly wished she did know him so that she could try to find him and ask him first hand what had happened before approaching G'an.

"Uninvited, and watching our eggs like a feline," Opeth surfaced growling, "they mean trouble, I know it, they mean lots of trouble but we are not allowed to make them go." He'd take any one of them, use size against the greens and speed against the bigger dragons. Against the blues... well, he would just have to be better.

"Seen anything especially suspicious yourself?" Xan quizzed S'ren, though her eyes wandered over to her irate lifemate. The sooner the Benden lot were gone the better; even she, laid back as she was, was struggling to cope with the constant anger coming from her partner.

"No cross-Weyr confrontations, but C'amil and I were privy to a disagreement between the Masterhealer and one of his subordinates. We couldn't hear all of the conversation, but Givon kept going on about cross-Weyr communications and waved a paper around in his hand a bit before stuffing it into that clipboard of his. Right as they looked about ready to part, a flit came and shared something with them, leading the other healer away in a right hurry." It had been a suspicious scene for sure. What was on that paper that had Givon so upset, and what had the other needed to rush off to see? It wasn't as if the Benden Healers had that much business about their Weyr. "Tereth's also noticed that there seems to be a lot more flit activity around as of late in general, but that can be attributed to various things really."

While Opeth surfaced, Tereth took the opportunity to duck back under the water himself and cool off. That didn't keep him from letting loose a small rumble of agreement from under the water though. We shall watch them as they watch us then and make sure they do nothing foolish. Whatever it was that was being planned, they would need to do their utmost to make sure that no harm resulted from it.

"...Hu. Weird." That was about all there was to say about it. "Things don't feel right," Xan went on, shaking her head, "the sooner I talk to G'an the better. I wish we knew what they really wanted here... and if their purpose is so innocent, why keep us in the dark? I'm not one to stress out for no reason, but I don't like this."

"...I suppose there's not a lot else we can do," Opeth admitted grudgingly, the orange of his eyes dulling somewhat. "It would be good to just chase them off... but we cannot. If our leaders think it is best for them to be allowed to poke around we must humor them." He wished it were otherwise, but it wasn't otherwise; as ever he would just have to live with the disappointing farce that was life.

"Shards. I can't relax now," Xan sighed, rubbing her face, "maybe I should go try to do something useful like talk to V'tur about what happened, or look for one of the riders... Something the brownrider said worried me. He said we ought to watch ourselves, because he had the backing of Benden, and Benden had the backing of all the old Weyrs. It seems likely that he was just bluffing, but still..." Xan trailed off and shrugged; people did boast, but if what he'd said was true...

"'Backing of all the old Weyrs'? I wasn't aware that we even had any enemies among them," S'ren remarked, surprised by this little tidbit of information. "It was likely a bluff on the Brownrider's part. I hardly imagine anything that serious going down." Trine had done no wrong after all, and the only thing he could think of that the old Weyrs might find offense in was in their acceptance of the alternate colors. That was nothing new though. With a faint smile, he said, "Do what you feel that you must, but it would be such a shame to leave already after that grand entrance. That would be a waste of Opeth's excellent acrobatics."

"...Right. You're right." Xan sighed out a huge breath and sunk up to her neck in the cool water. "I'm letting him get to me," she said with a slight grin, "he's so worked up about the Benden lot, even before things seemed a bit weird he was on edge. I guess I should try to keep his feeling apart from mine; I need to talk to G'an... but yea, that comment probably means nothing." Probably. She was still worried. Shaking her head, the rider struggled to push away her worries and find her usual relaxed spirit. It was no big deal. Everything would be fine... Right?

Tereth chose that moment to abruptly surface right near the pair, sending a huge splash their way. S'ren was caught off guard by the water attack, having been too involved in his conversation with Xan to to notice the other's plotting. "Ack! Tereth!" he 'scolded', sending a futile splash back at the dragon. "Are you trying to drown us?"

The Brown rumbled his amusement, eyes whirling blue-green. You are both good swimmers. There has been no harm done, he replied easily, slowly submerging himself below the water once more.

"Ah geez. I think we'd better start heading for the shallows if we don't want to be assaulted again," he said with a small laugh, watching the giant brown form move about below the water.

"Too right!" Xan laughed, making a conscious effort to push her worries down for the time being. She'd talk to the wingleader, and stuff would be sorted out. It's be fine... Humm... Slowly, a grin began to creep across the blue rider's face. The best way to relax, she generally found, was to mess about.

As such, she chose that moment to splash the other rider in the face. "Race ya!" So saying, Xan dived forward and set off for the shore at top speed; she was no dolphineer, but a wasted youth of messing around on the coast had given her a fair turn of speed in the water!

S'ren was caught off guard by the splash directly to the face, but he had to grin at the other's antics. "Oi! Cheater!" he called out with a laugh, swimming futilely after her. He wasn't much of a racer, but he could swim for a good while if need be.

Tereth 'helped' his rider from below by giving him a light push toward the shoreline with his snout. Didn't help much, but it did give the brownrider a little extra propulsion.
