Mine, might we stop by the lake for a swim after this?
Certainly. You did an excellent job today.
The wing had just completed their drills for the day, and the dragons were landing down to rest for a bit. The drills had been particularly intense today, and everyone was quite worn out. Once they touched down, S'ren dismounted and walked up to Tereth's head to rub his eye ridges. The brown rumbled in pleasure, leaning into the rubbing. It had been five turns now that the pair had been bonded, yet it still seemed to S'ren that it was only yesterday when the baby brown had hatched from his egg and toddled over to him. The link between dragon and rider was truly stronger than anything he could have ever previously imagined.
After scratching for a moment, S'ren turned to look over at the rest of the wing. It seemed, however, that most everyone else had already left to tend to their own dragon's needs. Everyone apart from H'oun anyway. Perhaps he had been distracted for longer than he thought, for he had even missed the wingleader's parting words. Giving a friendly smile to the other brownrider, he decided to extend the invitation to the lake. "H'oun, Tereth and I were about to go for a swim. Would you and Pierth like to join us?"

I don't swim, at least not with others. Please let them know that, H'oun.
The older rider softly smiled at the words of his dragon, the haughty tone echoing inside his head for a moment or two as the massive Brown looked over in the direction of one of the younger (if not youngest) members of their Wing. Usually Pierth had no problems with his fellow Wingmembers, he was always pleased to see them working, but for some reason today the dragon had a bit of Thread up his bum, or so to speak. H'oun thankfully was a much calmer individual, always had been, and he knew his opinion could override that of his grouchy dragon.
"I'll probably join you in the waters, good for my joints. Pierth says he may or may not go in, something about his wings and legs ache and he doesn't want to drown."
Please smile less when you're telling tales to others.
The Brown huffed and spread his wings to show they were just fine, the challenge taken that he would indeed get into the lake.
"Shall we walk there then, sending the beasts ahead? I know Pierth enjoys a good soak before actually getting a rubdown."

"That works well." Turning his head back toward Tereth for a moment, he smiled and said, "We'll meet you two at the lake then."
Don't take too long. We may just have all of the fun without you.
S'ren chuckled at the message and watched as the brown stretched out his wings before taking off again toward the lake. I'll keep that in mind. After the dragons had departed, the young rider walked by his companion as they started at a leisurely pace towards the lake. "Feel's nice to stretch a bit, doesn't it? Been sitting for too long."

"You've got some rough Turns ahead of you kiddo if you think today was tiring. We're Dragonriders, our legs and backs will always be sore from sitting on our partners all day. Can you imagine how their necks must feel?"
There was a hint of chuckle in the older man's voice, a teasing tone with his younger Wing partner. H'oun was known amongst his group for being the oldest and probably the nicest out of the bunch. Even if his Brown Pierth could come off as something of a snob there was nothing wrong with H'oun.
You're late.
Hush. We like to take our time in getting there, so wait a bit more.
The men hadn't reached the waters just yet, but Pierth was tired of waiting. He and the younger brown were already there, already in the waters, and he wanted his lifemate there soon.
There are females here. I have not seen one before.
"Pierth says that there are girls at the lake and we should hurry up if we want to catch them."
There was a mental huff.

S'ren laughed lightly at H'oun's warning. "Hey, I wouldn't have it any other way," he replied easily. The young brownrider always enjoyed H'oun's company. The older rider was very friendly was also one of the most experienced in the wing. He would have a long way to go in hopes of ever catching up to him.
Please do hurry. Pierth isn't the most pleasurable of company.
He had to fight back a small smirk at that comment. Be nice, now. We'll be there soon.
When am I not nice?
True enough.
S'ren blinked in mild surprise at the news from H'oun. "Oh? Well then, I suppose we'd best hurry." Naturally Tereth wouldn't have thought to mention there being girls down by the water. Ah well, people swam by the lake side all the time. Not really that big of a deal.

H'oun gave a strong, affectionate pat to S'ren's back, chuckling as well.
"That's good to hear, because there never is another way! Just us, the dragons, and Faranth forbid the Thread in the sky."
H'oun, one of the girls is talking to me. She speaks funny.
H'oun stopped in his steps. People talking to dragons wasn't something odd, but most didn't do it unless a rider was present. Interesting.
You can answer back, you know. It won't send you between to be friendly, but we'll pick up our pace.
"Pierth says one of the girls is rather chatty and it's making him a little uneasy. Would you mind stepping up the pace so we get there quicker?"

S'ren paused when the other brownrider suddenly stopped, confusion written on his face before he suddenly heard Tereth talking to him as well.
I like this girl. She's very unique. The brown's mental voice was completely saturated with amusement.
What's going on?
The girls decided to approach us. One of them is talking to Pierth.
S'ren was brought back out of his surprised daze by H'oun urging them to speed up. "Ah, yes, of course."
--------
It didn't take very long for the two to reach the lake, and when they arrived it seemed that the two girls were still present. One of them (he guessed it was the chatty one) was currently petting Tereth on the eye ridges. The brown had no complaint on the matter and leaned into the small hand, rumbling in pleasure. You are slow, Mine, he remarked, still sounding rather amused. Pierth on the other hand didn't look to be sharing the same sentiment.
"Good afternoon, ladies. Enjoying a nice swim?"

Pierth, are you okay?
I'm fine. Her interests have turned towards Tereth, but she's not a bad sort. When I spoke to her she went silent and stopped talking, I don't think she is from the Weyr.
H'oun nodded mentally as he and his companion finally neared where the dragons were, his pace slowing as he noticed Pierth was sitting on the shoreline watching all the interactions. It was just like his dragon to not really want to get involved, but Pierth always stayed interested.
He couldn't think of anything to say right away, and was surprised to see that one of the girls was actually touching a Dragon and looking like she was pretty happy to be doing so. When S'ren talked to them both he noticed the one with the fire-hued hair look up, her gray eyes blinking at them.
"Oh, well hey. Ya must be the riders an' all. Greetin'."
H'oun could clearly see why Pierth was puzzled and interested all at once. He looked over at the other Rider, curious to see his reaction to this girl. She was...hardly dressed, after all - and looked diseased to boot if her arms were any indication.

S'ren honestly wasn't sure what to make of the woman really. Clearly she was friendly and she had already earned Tereth's approval quite easily, but her clothing was rather... lacking. And what had possibly happened to her arms? Still, the was no time to gape, for that would be rather rude. He smiled lightly at her assertion. "I see that you have made good friends with Tereth. My name is S'ren, and this is H'oun and Pierth," he said, gesturing politely to the two with him. "And you lovely ladies are...?"
"Ah, my name's Gabriel," the youngest girl replied. "And this is Ofelia." Gabriel had been mostly hanging back this whole time, watching with interest as the Tanner interacted with the dragons. She was quite forward it seemed.
"Well then, it's a pleasure to meet you both."
Will you be joining us in the water soon? I have an itch on my back.
"Ah, coming," he said to the brown, taking off his riding gear and setting it aside so that he could get in the water as well. He kept on his regular clothes however, not particularly caring if they got wet.

"S'ren and H'oun then? Ya can call me Ofie if ya like, s'what eveyone back at the Hall calls me anyway. I'm from Tanner Hall, here on business wit my brother. This one here is called Tereth? He's a lot nicer than the other over there, but both are pretty cool."
Ofelia still had her hand on Tereth, not really taking it off even as the riders approached. She was all smiles and cheer though, turning to face the approaching males without any hesitation. It rather puzzled her that Gabriel wasn't up and touching the dragons with her (she thought the girl would jump at the chance), but it didn't do her any difference. One of the guys was shedding clothes like he was getting in, the younger of the two, while the older went over to the larger and lounging brown.
H'oun was watching intently the two girls, knowing one of them to be a Weyrbrat he'd been seeing running around. Her name escaped him at the moment, sadly, but he still knew her face. It was when she introduced herself and the redhead that everything clicked and a smile crossed the man's face.
"Well met then, Ofelia, Gabriel. I hope the two of you aren't skipping out on chores then?"
I am a little offended by being told Tereth is something better than me.
Don't take it the wrong way. She's not from the Weyr, like you thought, so she probably doesn't know any better.

While Gabriel did absolutely love dragons, she had held back on approaching them originally for their own sake. The older brown hadn't looked too comfortable around anyone apart from his owner, and the younger one... well, he seemed ok. But now that his rider was here with them she wasn't entirely sure whether it would be more or less ok to approach. "Nope. Already finished all my chores." the young teen replied with a smileto the older rider's question. "Came down here after for a nice swim."
S'ren meanwhile made his way over to his dragon's side. "Where's the itch?"
Right in the middle of my back. The great brown lifted up a foreleg to help give His a boost. Yes, right there. Thank you.
"No problem," he told Tereth before looking back down at the woman in the water. "So, you said you are from the Tannerhall, Ofie? Is it the family trade, or did you decide to branch out to that on your own?"
Gabriel had watched briefly as S'ren climbed onto his dragon's back to settle an itch, but she then turned her attention back onto H'oun and Pierth. "Won't you join us in the water? It feels great," she said with a smile. In her mind she noted that H'oun was older and thus vastly more experience of a rider. Someday (soon hopefully) she could learn a lot from him.

"If you don't mind an old man like me splashing around with you then I certainly don't mind getting in."
H'oun started to strip down his rider clothes to the bare essentials, a cotton shirt and slightly thicker pants. His boots came off and were set down at Pierth's side, and with a childish whoop the man got a good run before he darted and jumped out into the part of the water that looked deeper. He made a sizable splash, one that splattered those closest to him with water, and when he emerged to the surface Pierth was rumbling with amusement.
I'd say you were going to get in anyway even without an invite. You never change.
"So kiddo, you wanna race? Show this old man if you can really swim in these waters?"
Pierth's rumbling stayed for a few moments, his eyes turning Green. The girl from the Tanner Hall was watching the interaction with great curiosity, as she'd never really seen all this. Ever. Her attention would have stayed held if not for the fact the younger man was talking to her now.
"Aye. My whole family have been Tanners since I can remember, and I've always been expected ta take up the trade an' follow down that path. It's not anythin' bad though, I love Tanning. Jus' sometimes makes it hard for people ta look at me, because of my arms and hands. I'm proud of 'em though, they're marks of my craft."
Ofelia moved her hands and touched a patch of skin, the strange hues looking so odd when against one another.
"An' what about you? Always a rider?"

Gabriel laughed and let out a cheer as H'oun jumped into the water and made a huge splash. "I don't think you're really as old as you make yourself out to be," the teen replied with a grin. "And sure I'll race ya. From where to where?" She almost never turned down a challenge.
The scene certainly had been an amusing one to watch, but not at all surprising. They had come here to swim after all. "Bear your marks proudly then," S'ren replied with a smile. To her question he answered, "Nah, grew up in the Beastcraft. My family lives here at the Weyr however, so I guess I've been around dragons for quite a while."
Pierth, won't you rejoin us in the water? Tereth asked the other dragon. It feels very nice.

"I'm likely old enough to be your father, that's for certain. But for the wager....let's go from here over to that big rock and back. I can have Pierth get in and act as a swimming point too if you think a large Brown dragon would make it easier."
I'm not meant to act like a rock for your games, H'oun, nor do I wish to get in when there are so many people already in. What if I was to step on someone? I'm not as careless as other dragons.
The message was relayed to both H'oun and Tereth, an emphasis being place on the last bit of words. Pierth probably would get in the water eventually anyway, it was hot enough out that he'd want to be cool. It was only a matter of time, and his rider very clearly knew it.
Spoilsport.
"I've never seen dragons before comin' to the Weyr, at least not as close as this. My brother and I are gonna stay ta watch the Hatchin' but we'll probably be leavin' after that. No need to lurk around when ya already got a good Journeyman Tanner here, not ta mention plenty of others who know the craft."
Ofelia placed another hand on the part of Tereth she could touch, still marveling at the creature. She'd touched Puck plenty of times to know what hide felt like, but there was still something wonderful about an actual dragon. Her brother would certainly be getting an earful from her that evening about all of this, that's for sure.
"I dunno if I could ever care for a dragon though, like everyone seems to be doin'. I'm certainly not a Candidate ta be standin' on the sands when that time comes."

Careless? I do not see anyone being stepped upon, Tereth replied, frowning telepathically. He didn't much like the insinuation that the other had made.
"Nah, the rock is fine," she replied. Gabriel couldn't hear the telepathic conversation going on, but she could guess from the older brown's demeanor that he wouldn't wish to be used in such a way. "Alright then: on your mark, get set, go!" The two took off toward their goal.
S'ren wonder what exactly he had missed in the exchange with Pierth, but he didn't exactly get much of an opportunity to ask due to his conversation with the Tanner. He did however continue to pet Tereth's back while speaking. "I wouldn't doubt that you could if you needed to," he replied. "Besides, your partner would be sure to let you know of his or her needs, and there would always be the assistance of the other riders and werylings."
