It was a beautiful and sunny day out. Much too fine to waste any time in simply lounging about his weyr anyway. Currently the large brown was lounging next to the lake, listening with eyes closed to the sound of two harpers practicing nearby. Their music was quite soothing to him, and he never at all tired of listening to the various melodies and ballads played. Even just the simple tuning of an instrument brought the dragon great joy. There was just something about these simple vibrations that held an incredible amount of power over his being.
A solitary green-blue eye opened again at the sound of footsteps on the sand, and once he caught sight of the familiar approaching figure he blinked and lifted his head to face her. It was the Tanner girl from before. He waited patiently and watched her with interest, waiting for her to speak.

Ofelia had waddled out into the sunshine after a long day at the vats, she and her brother teaching a few of the Weyr tanners how to treat a leather in a new way. It wasn't a style the siblings invented, it was something that came from the Hall, but it didn't help that the others didn't know what they were doing. She spent all day showing the same motions again and again so her arms were tired and she smelled faintly of picked urine. Not exactly her favorite smell but one she hardly noticed thanks to how long she'd been around it in all her turns.
Now that she was outside, Ofelia saw a familiar face amidst the sunshine, one that brought a massive smile to her own. She liked the brown dragon even if she was breaking rules by talking to him on her own, but hey! Dragon!
"Tereth! How ya been? Good ta see ya!"
She had to practically stop herself from running over.

I have been quite well. It is good see you again.
Unlike the chatty green with whom he spent much of his free time, Tereth was not one to normally talk to humans other than His. The brown dragon was more traditionally quiet, but for the Tanner he was willing to make an exception. The woman intrigued him, and he also found her quite a bit amusing.
Have you been well?

Not being from the Weyr, Ofelia really didn't know that all dragons weren't naturally chatty. Lucky her!
"I've been good. We're trainin' the Tanners here ta perverse the leathers inna new way, ta prevent them from over dryin'. Lots of work, but when we get done wit it my brother says we're leavin'. No point in hangin' around he says."
The Tanner didn't even make mention to ask the dragon about his rider but thankfully S'ren was no longer a sore spot on her mind or memory. She'd only been a little more than overwhelmed that day because of anything and everything that was happening, but now she looked back on it like something that probably occurred daily. Of course she could think that all she wanted, but in reality she always hid herself in her room whenever she heard a dragon scream now.
"I dunno if I'll be here ta see the Hatchin' or not, if they get eggs on the Sands. We leave when we leave, but it makes me a little sad ta think that."

Tereth was a bit sad to hear that the interesting young woman might be leaving soon. S'ren had rather liked her too after all. The brown craned his neck closer to the woman as she was standing a small distance from him. So soon? I will be sad to see you leave. The dragon's words were backed up by his eyes whirling a soft grey color. I don't suppose you'd mind us visiting on occasion?

Considering that Tereth was moving towards her Ofelia took the motion to be an invitation to touch the dragon, and she walked over and placed her hand on the tip of his snout. There was a soft smile on her face and she shook her head.
"I dunno. My brother says we have to go to all the Weyrs and show them what ta do even if the other Journeyman are makin' the same rounds. My brother is pretty good at what we do and he's teachin' me the ropes, so I dunno if I'd ever make it back. I like the Weyr an' all, but this isn't my home. There's really nothin' here for me."
Ofelia patted the snout with her hand again before she actually moved and gave Tereth's head a hug. She loved his smell, the warmth of his breath and the sound of his voice!

Tereth rumbled lightly at the touch, closing his eyes comfortably as she moved in for the hug. I suppose it can't be helped then. Still, if you ever need a lift anywhere, I would be happy to help. After all, it was easy to travel about the world as a dragon. They weren't limited to ground movement as humans were.
"Ofie?"
S'ren was quite a bit surprised to find the red-head hugging his dragon, or even to see her in the first place. Ever since that mating flight the brownrider had been unable to find any opportunity to speak with her. The few times he had even caught a glimpse of her around she had always been busy. Recovering from his surprise, the brownrider smiled and approached the two. "Hello there. I hope I'm not interrupting anything."

"I'll have ta take ya up on that sometime. I'm gettin' a little sick for my Crafthall and maybe one of these sevendays I'll just have ta bother ya for a way there and back."
There was good-nature humor in the Tanner's voice. While she really did miss the Crafthall there wasn't a dire need to return. She'd get there when she got there, and then she'd Walk.
Her brief moment of alone time with the dragon was interrupted by the sound of his rider approached and Ofelia turned to greet the rider with a large smile, her eyes honestly happy to see him.
"Hi S'ren! Nope, yer fine! Yer dragon an' I were jus' talkin' about trips around Pern an' all."

"Tereth was talking with you?" S'ren asked, slightly surprised once again. "Well, I'm glad that you two are getting along so well."
I don't know why you are surprised. I already told you that I like her, the brown remarked, a hint of amusement returning to his voice as he spoke with his rider.
"Yes, I suppose you have mentioned that several times, now" he said with a light chuckle, reaching up with a hand to pat his partner's neck. Truly, he was rather glad to see the Tanner again, and it pleased him that there didn't appear to be any awkward feelings. He had been worried that his prior carelessness might have made things harder between them. "So, Ofie, been working with the leather a lot today?" he asked conversationally, noting a rather strong and peculiar scent about her. He assumed it was due to something related with her craft.

"Is it odd that he was talkin' wit' me? He always talks ta me every time I see 'em - does he not do that for everyone else?"
Ofelia still had a hand of her own on Tereth's hide, her wrinkled and stained hands hidden behind the gloves she'd decided to wear for today. The Tanner was surprisingly well-covered, back to her usual default look of full-body wrapping or clothing, her hair not pulled into it's usually customary buns. It hung about her shoulders in several long and thick braids, giving her the look of a person still in the middle of fixing their hair for the day.
"Ah anyway, yeah - been workin' my arse off actually. Wit' rumors and all that the Queen'll be ready ta fly soon and with that clutch we've been gettin' as many people ready ta make leathers for future Dragonriders as much as possible. My brother wonders how most of ya worked before we got here, as many of these people dunno their craft proper. Shame, really."
There was a sigh that escaped her lips, but it wasn't one of haughty arrogance or anything else. It was one that indicated Ofelia was tired - tired of having to keep working doubleshifts just to help out the so-called Weyr-tanners who just were getting by on the lesser qualities. She knew though for all that she was tired, her brother had to be even more.
"Enough 'bout me though, how are ya? Haven't been seein' either ya nor Tereth around lately and it makes me rather lonely. Missin' my friends and all ya know."

"Just a bit. Tereth doesn't really talk to very many others aside from myself usually," S'ren replied with a small smile. The only other human he could think of that the Brown occasionally spoke to was E'lai, but not nearly as often as he himself heard from Eltimioth. "He's rather fond of you."
The rider listened with interest as the Tanner explained about her day with the local Weyr tanners. She certainly seemed tired, but that was quite understandable if she and her brother had been as busy as it sounded like. "Ah, I've been well," S'ren answered when she inquired as to what he and Tereth had been up to. "Just been rather busy with drills and Weyr business. I've rather missed being able to talk with you as well." He decided it might be best if he didn't explicitly bring up anything about what happened last time considering that the woman seemed to have moved well past it by now. "It's rather difficult to catch a break sometimes, isn't it? Things can be surprisingly busy around here."

"I guess I should be honored then. Thank ya muchly Tereth, I'm pretty fond of ya too. Yer by far one of the better lookin' browns I've seen floatin' 'round 'ere, an' lately the skies seem to be floodin' with dragons. It's hard ta believe all of it sometimes, since I'm so used ta never really seein' any of 'em. Goin' from none at a time ta a sky full is a big change."
Ofelia continued to rub the dragon's hide gently enough, though at S'ren's words about missing talking to her she paused for a moment and swung her head to look at him. Her face seemed pensive for a moment, as though she wasn't sure what was to come of it, but that quickly passed and the familiar Ofie Grin that seemed silly spread over her lips at a rapid pace.
"I'm glad ya like ta talk wit' me! It's hard ta find people 'round 'ere mah own age or close enough so willin' ta talk to someone who isn't a rider. I mean, most of all yer people are friendly, I get that, but not many will actually settle ta talk. Yer a refreshing change of pace from someone tryin' ta get me ta hurry on a leather order. I'm wonderin' if there's a reason for all the hustle an' bustle of late."

Tereth was quite pleased by the compliment, and leaned into Ofelia's hand with an affectionate rumble. Yes, he was very much fond of the Tanner, even if he couldn't fully explain the reason himself.
"I don't believe there has been any more hustle and bustle as of late than there usually is," he said with a small smile. "The Weyr is a busier place than most give it credit for. As far as finding people to talk to, be they riders or non-rider, you just need to look in the right places. Try in the messhall more often perhaps. There is usually much friendly conversation going on around meals."
