Another day had come and gone at Trine Weyr, and as the day was beginning to draw to a close two dragons could be seen laying out by the lake. Their riders were currently at dinner, so the brown and green were taking the opportunity to enjoy the last the sun's rays before darkness came. Tereth let out an amused rumbled at something that Eltimioth had said, his eyes whirling green and blue.
So you and Yours will be searching for firelizard eggs soon? Perhaps a return trip to the beach will be in order.
Somehow he had a feeling that any flits the greenrider acquired would forever become little slaves for the the pretty green. Well, at least they probably wouldn't be able to cause any trouble if they were always busy.

Yes. The beach...or anywhere else we can find them. She'd asked around and determined beaches were the best places to start, though it was possible to find green firelizard clutches elsewhere. It wasn't as if she were searching for a particular color, just that they do her bidding. And she would be bigger than them, so having them do her bidding shouldn't be hard to manage. They are sort of charming, in a tiny way. Also it will make it easier to expand my collection.
She paused, resettling her wings before continuing on. Next time I may not have to bother you and Yours. Listening to music is probably more fun than beach-combing, yes?

Tereth almost chuckled. I think both together would be best, he replied. It is a shame that neither of Ours were harpers. The end of the brown's tail swished ever so slowly back and forth, echoing his contentment. Regardless, the beach-combing was enjoyable. We were able to assemble a nice collection.

We shall have to find a Harper to accompany us the next time then, Eltimioth declared. Tereth spent so much time with them, surely he could have S'ren coax one of them along? It was probably something a human could brag about, the green decided with a brisk nod to herself.
She was distracted by the sky turning lovely shades of orange and the light hitting the lake of Trine, the rippling of the water sending the light scattering in interesting ways. Then the tangerine of the sky reminded her of her shells; and that reminded her Tereth had complimented the collection. Indeed we were. Perhaps we should start new collections--I will collect firelizards and you collect the adoration of Harpers, yes? The green seemed to be teasing, but she was half serious.

Mm, that would certainly be nice, he replied, imagining a harper actually accompanying them to the beach. Then again, he likely wouldn't get any work done that way so perhaps it was for the best that they remained separate. It would be all too easy to get wrapped in the music and neglect searching for seashells. Or eggs. Whatever they would be searching for at the time.
The seeming change in scenery as the sun began to set was certainly a beautiful one. Very pleasing to the eyes. A collection? The thought amused him. I rather prefer my harpers free personally. The music is more original that way. However, I would be glad to help you search for flits.

They can be free and still be something you collect--hmm...like a queen collects bronzes! The comparison utterly amused Eltimioth, who had a merry chortle about it, eyes whirling a bright green.
And I and Mine should be glad for the help. Perhaps you and Yours shall have an egg as well? I am certain we can find more than one or two. If nothing else, they were all together very good at finding what they were searching for.

I suppose that is true, Tereth replied, also rather amused with the comparison. Queens did always have quite the following of bronzes. Still, he could never quite imagine himself like that with the harpers. He enjoyed them most as they simply went about their own business.
Perhaps we shall. Naturally though priority would first go to finding eggs for you and Yours. Perhaps one of the local firelizard might be able to aide us in finding a nest. The group really did make a nice team when they worked together. And the tasks they worked on were usually quite different from the regular day to day minutia.

Hmmm. That is a good idea--use a firelizard to find a firelizard nest, the green agreed, though the only firelizard she knew was still young, and she wasn't sure if it would in fact be able to help. Maybe E'lai or Tereth's S'ren could befriend another with a firelizard to aid in the search?
There will be enough for all, she added complacently. They'd just keep looking until they found enough.
Then she remembered the other reason she was talking to Tereth--getting the gossip from the source. There was a Flight and you did not win, she said, half sympathetic and half curious. You almost did though. That seemed to be an attempt at encouragement.

True, there was certainly no shortage of firelizards on the Southern continent. They would be sure to find enough of the little creatures given time. Eltimioth's abrupt topic change took the brown by slight surprise. Yes, that is correct, he replied, eyes not quite as bright as before. He didn't like to think on his losses too much. What did you wish to know? It was overly clear whenever the green was fishing for gossip, especially since they had known each other from hatching. And her question couldn't lie in the outcome of the flight since she already knew that part quite well.

Eltimioth's tail swished from side to side as she ploughed onward, direct as usual. So how did Yours relieve his stress? It wasn't like they didn't have this sort of conversation regularly--and Tereth wasn't the only one Eltimioth asked about these things.
Though it didn't really matter one way or another to the green what the gossip actually was; she just liked having something to talk about and Flights were an easy, regular subject.

Tereth was somewhat amused by the question. Well, I managed to talk him out of trying a bath, so he went to the usual place with the other riders. Met up with a very interesting Tanner girl there. Ofelia. They hit it off quite well. The brown let out an amused rumble as he continued. After the fact didn't go so well though. Mine is not the best when it comes to relational matters.

Neither is Mine, Eltimioth agreed. E'lai was so untrusting of good things it was difficult for him to form any sort of romantic attachment without finding a way to send the other participant packing. And sometimes they just weren't worthy of her E'lai-mine. Between the two problems...
This girl is interesting? Why? the green said, curious.

Why was the Tanner interesting? Ah, where to even begin... She is very forward, Tereth mused, thinking over the different reasons that he found Ofelia to be a person of intrigue. And she is very comfortable about and social with our kind. The first time I saw her she came straight up to Pierth and I and struck up conversation, even though Ours were not around. That alone had been unusual in of itself. Even the Wery-born girl with her had not made so bold an approach. Her personality and way of speaking are also rather unique. Mine liked her a lot as well. Overall his assessment of the woman was definitely a positive one.

She sounds as if she would be a good Candidate, the green said, finding Tereth's assessment amusing, if only because it sounded like he was waxing poetic like his beloved Harpers. You like her and Yours likes her. You should help Yours? Eltimioth suggested. She hadn't yet seen E'lai like anyone a lot yet, and, as long as the human was suitable, that would be her course of action.

Tereth nodded his head in agreement with Eltimioth's words. Yes, she would make a fine Candidate. Unfortunately, it is not so simply as just helping Mine. The dragon's eyes whirled with mild disappointment. She is not a Tanner of our Weyr, and after the Hatching has passed-- possibly before even-- she and her brother will be moving on to other Weyrs to show them new techniques as well. Short of a stand's Impression, I am not sure how she can be convinced to stay. Not to mention the fact that she appeared about ready to age out. If she were ever to become a rider, the next clutch would likely be her only chance.
