I would have had that race if Tereth hadn't gotten his last wind. Iweith grumped as he went into the lake for a cool down. The brown was, for once, being a little sensitive about coming in second place in the monthly wing competitions. Different games and races meant to lighten up spirits and simply have a good time. The past two games, Iweith had come in first in the brown races.

V'tur was in a much better mood than his dragon. He had enjoyed the race and the feel of the wind rushing around him. Normally, serious and straight faced, the wings competitions were one of the very few times that he allowed himself a good time. V'tur had even been joking and laughing with others of his wing. Amazing!

"Don't be a sore loser, Iweith. There is always next time. It was luck and skill. Now we know his trick and can use it to our advantage. Think of it as a chance to learn something new and fun." The brown rider soothed his beast.

The dragon muttered without really saying anything. Instead, he stuck his head under water and then pulled up, splashing about and trying to see if he could get his beloved wet.

Great job! You've picked up some speed recently I see.

That was quite fun. Might we go for a dip in the lake?

Of course! S'ren was quite proud of his brown's performance today, and was quite sure to send these feelings to his partner. Although a small part of him was mildly amused by this improved performance, as he couldn't help but wonder if this was some sort of preparation for the next flight.

The two splashed down into the lake water not very far from V'tur and Iweith. "Great race!" S'ren called over to the other two with a smile. "It was a close match." Truly, it had been a bit of a surprise that they were actually able to pull in the lead last minute there given the other brown's recent winning streak.

V'tur was standing on the shore and thus managed to be out of the range of Iweith attempted splash. A man truly in his prime, V'tur could appreciate the enthusiasm of youth. He played by the rules and if he won or lost, it didn't matter so long as things were done right. Nodding his head slowly, he replied raising his voice so that the other rider could hear him. "It was a good race, very close there. Have you been practicing in secret? Flying extra passes?"

Though V'tur rarely jested, he did jest now. There was a very light teasing tone in his normally monotone and low voice.

Iweith, still sulking, paddled to the shore. He wallowed into the mud and allowed the waves to lap against his scales. Wings closed in, he closed his first set of lids to pretend he was alone. Almost. Manners that V'tur had taught him were ingrained deep. Tereth.

"I haven't, but I think Tereth might have," S'ren said jokingly, dismounting his dragon despite the fact that they were in the water. He didn't mind getting wet, and he made his way through the water and to the shore to where V'tur was. The other brownrider seemed to be in a rather good mood today, so he may as well take advantage if it. "So how have you been recently?"

The same good mood clearly couldn't be applied to the other's dragon however. Iweith, Tereth greeted back cordially, not at all put off by the other's sulking. You flew well. It was an honor to race you.

V'tur being social! To strangers! Well, not quite strangers. V'tur made it his business to know all active riders and as for the brown riders, well brown simply was the best color. Able to fly high and fast or long and for the haul of a flight. His eyes danced merrily. "I have been well. Especially now that I am off rotation for doing the daily Pass. I enjoy the games between the wings. A test of skills. That just means Iweith will try harder next time and so will I."

If dragons had noses to wrinkle...

Thank you. It was a good race. Of course, next time I will win. It is good to have a challenge. That was the closest Iweith was going to gt to congratulating the other brown. Brown is the best color. We could easily out fly a green for distance. Blues for speed. And Bronzes for moving.
PostPosted: Sun Jun 13, 2010 9:00 pm

"The games are rather a nice change of pace," S'ren agreed. "As is the friendly competition. You can bet that we will also do our best next time." Friendly rivalry was always a good way to spruce things up. "So, you're off Pass rotation? How did that come about?"

Oh? I rather think that all colors have their merit, Tereth replied with a slight tilt of his head. Greens are quick, agile, and graceful. Blues and blacks are hardy and spirited while also possessing a decent amount of agility. Crimsons are strong-willed and can choose between fight or Flight. Bronzes are usually the largest and strongest males capable of flying the queens and Silvers can hold flame for a very long time. And of course Golds are responsible for the breeding of our entire kind. The brown dragon almost seemed to smile after having finished off his list, content that his analysis was accurate. Oh yes, and then there is the occasional rare White. More agile and speedy than a green while also able to tell When. Quite a gift.

V'tur shrugged. "Good behavior, maybe? That and I have been doing it for the last half Turn. Wings rotate about that often. If I am lucky, I will just have wing practice for a while and then back onto the hard shift."

V'tur searched his memory. It took a moment but something jogged his memory. "You Impressed about 5 turns ago, right? I think that Hatching was the first one I attended here at Trine."

This time Iweith did snort. He turned away and looked at his rider. He did appreciate the other colors as companions but as a dragon and a brown, Iweith did have some pride for his color. I suppose. Crimsons do breed if they chose to...
PostPosted: Sun Jun 13, 2010 9:36 pm

"Has it been half a Turn already?" S'ren replied in thoughtful surprise. "Hm, time sure does seem to fly, doesn't it?" The ebony-haired rider listened as V'tur brought up the Hatching. "Mhm, five Turns sounds about right. That was quite the day." Having not Impressed at any of the prior three Hatchings that he had stood at, the then teen hadn't been expecting much to come out of that one either. How marvelously wrong he had been. "How many Turns have you and Iweith been together?"

Mhm, he replied, amused by how the other was taking his discourse. Tereth certainly had pride in his color, he just didn't necessary agree that any one color was 'the best' per se. The dragon waded a bit deeper into the water to more easily splash himself in the water. A dip in the lake was always a nice way to cool down after activities. Is the mud comfortable?

"It will be twelve turns at the end of this Turn. I was 20 when he hatched for me in Igen. Sometimes, it only seems like yesterday." V'tur answered, recalling the day that he and Iweith became one.

The brown rider had settled down on the sands and was going through his pack. Ah! There it was! Shaking out a blanket, he pulled out a couple of meatrolls. "Hungry? I am about famished. I normally keep a pack like this with my saddle but today Just managed to grab a couple things I needed."

It is cool and keeping the biting bugs away. Once I am ready, I shall come for another swim and then I think a nap.
Iweith replied watching the other brown paddle around. He was slowly starting to lose his sore temper. Not that he could keep it very long.
PostPosted: Sat Jun 19, 2010 7:26 am

"Twelve Turns is quite impressive," S'ren replied with a smile. "I believe Impression day is probably the most memorable to all riders. No moment prior to it truly compares."

As V'tur settled down on the sand, S'ren decided to sit down as well, watching the two browns in the mud and water. They seemed to be having a discourse of their own, although he hadn't really been paying much attention to it. He did hear Tereth listing off dragon colors a moment ago, although he wasn't entirely sure what lead up to that part of the conversation. The rider was drawn out of his speculation when his companion offered him a meatroll. "Ah, I suppose I am just a touch. Would you have enough food for yourself though?" he asked, concerned to possibly diminish the other's meal.

That sounds like a nice plan, Tereth agreed before ducking under the surface of the lake. He came back up again a moment later. Hm, perhaps I might join you for some sun.

"Yes... So much has happened during that time," V'tur replied quietly. He shook himself mentally and gave a rueful smile. "Truthfully, I just try to go from day to day. Makes life much easier."

Quite comfortable and leaning back, the brown rider raised an eyebrow and replied. "Eh? Yeah, go ahead. I always plan ahead. It is good to keep prepared for just about... Well, whatever. Makes things easier."

If it pleases you. Iweith closed his eyes and settled deeper into the mud. You did race well today.
PostPosted: Mon Jun 21, 2010 8:12 pm

Thank you, Tereth replied, pleased that the other dragon was feeling more amiable. Working his way slowly and leisurely through the water, the brown made his way back onto land to settle into some mud himself. The warmth of the sun's rays felt nice on his back.

"Thank you then," he replied, accepting a meatroll from his fellow brownrider. "So, what did you think of the blue races?" S'ren watched as his brown made his way back to the shore, and was faintly amused when the dragon settled himself down in a large spot of mud like the other. You do realize that will take forever to fully clean you of that, right?

I wouldn't mind another dip in the lake after a bit. You need not worry so much though: my hide is brown. Who would notice?

The black-haired rider nearly laughed. Don't think that mud is so easily hidden. Even on you it will stand out.

Oh well, he replied, entirely unconcerned. His own tone carried a hint of amusement with it at the light banter.

"The blue races? I had half a mark on Hysueth who finished third. I think I might have seen Xan and Opeth. Which would be interesting as I thought Opeth would not like racing at all." V'tur shrugged it off. He had tried not to pay much mind when Iweith watched the greens. "How bout you? Any marks won or lost?"

You let the mud dry and crack. Then if you can call a flit or two, they scrub the best. Iweith advised Tereth. Did you watch the greens fly?

Dragon gossip.
PostPosted: Tue Jun 22, 2010 7:47 pm

"Yeah... I lost a mark in the blue races," S'ren admitted with a self-depreciating chuckle. "Looked like a promising bet, but oh well. That's what happens with gambling." He actually didn't place bets very often simply for that reason. He generally wasn't too good at picking the winner.

Of course. It was a very interesting race, Tereth replied. Also rather insightful. It was good to know which greens would put up the biggest challenge to catch. Of course, he likely wouldn't even remember by the time that information became relevant, but it had still been fun to watch.

"I was talked into what I thought would be a good gamble. Oh well. Not a big deal. A whole mark and I might have been upset." V'tur replied in good humor. A little sleepy for the day's events and just in general, he tried to stifle a yawn. "I think them bubbly pies are starting to catch up to me. I made a glut of myself and ate two."

There were one or two in fine form. Ones to watch.
Iweith replied calmly. He truly had no preference though he likes his greens to be long in limb or those who could do a nice wing move. I heard today from one of the bronzes that we might go on a feline hunt soon.
