Saykiro walked into the store room to grab another bucket of oil. At least this time he gets to help the rider as a chore in a little way. He looked at the supplies and noticed some more oil missing from last time. He sighed, grabbed the bucket and went to meet the brown rider. Maybe he will know what is going on with the oil? He might know more about how much oil gets used with the added dragons. He thought about it while grabbing a brush, too.

He had been told to meet the rider down near the lake in the early afternoon. It was almost that time as he walked down and seen the brown dragon and S'ren.

Mine, I do believe that we need to refill our oil stores.

I know, I'm sorry. I hadn't realized just how low it had gotten. S'ren was currently working on oiling the Brown with what little he had left, but it definitely wouldn't be enough. He had been using a bit more oil since getting Ruby, true, but it had been careless on his part to let his reserves go for so long without refilling. At least someone should be coming soon with some more oil.

He is here now, Tereth replied, eyes whirling gently as he watched the boy approach.

The brownrider turned in time to see the Candidate nearing them. "Ah, good day to you," he greeted with a smile. "Thank you from bringing that. We were nearly out." The dragon in front of him gave a small rumble of greeting to the other as well.

"Good day, Sir." Saykiro replied and bowed his head to the dragon. "I am sorry that it's not much," in a quieter voice, "seems we are using more then normal in the Weyr." He placed the bucket down next to the other one and looked at Tereth.

"How often do you oil him?" Besides wanting to know for his possible dragon, it could help him find out about the missing oil and clear up some rumors.

"Ah, that's fine," S'ren said, looking over to see how much had been brought. "That should be enough to finish up for today at least. I'll go and grab some more later to have on hand." He had heard the more than normal remark, but that didn't really surprise him. With all of the extra dragons here from Benden now it wasn't unusual for there to be a bit more oil usage. Although really it would be preferable for them to use their own oil, but that was neither here nor there.

"Not too terribly often," S'ren replied to the question. "Mostly just preventative maintenance on occasion against dry patches. He needed oiling much more frequently when he was growing."

There is an itch below my right wing, Tereth remarked, momentarily interrupting the conversation. And on my left flank.

Well I can't be in two places at once, silly, S'ren replied, giving his dragon an affectionate pat on the side as he moved over to get his flank. "Would you mind helping me oil him a bit? He has an itch under his right wing, but I can't grab two itches at once."

The dragon turned a multifaceted orb onto the Candidate expectantly, raising his wing a bit for ease of access.

He nodded his head, it made sense for how much and how often. "I am not sure how much will be there later. Seems each time I go there is some extra gone."

He looked to the Brown as the dragon moved his wing. "Just use my hands with him?" Saykiro asked as he started to dip his hands into the oil. "Sir, can I ask you something? I just have this funny feeling and I am not sure if I should follow my instincts about it." His concern was in his voice. "It seems like I am just imagining it, but..." He let his voice trail off, unsure of how to go about explaining it.

"Yes, hands are fine. What did you wish to ask?" S'ren replied, continuing to work on the patch on Tereth's flank. The Brown was quite pleased with the attention, and lifted his right wing just a bit higher to indicate that the boy should get to the spot more quickly. "But...?" S'ren pressed when the boy stalled. the brownrider couldn't help but wonder just what this Candidate was so concerned over. Did it have anything to do with the Benden Healers perhaps?

The dragon rumbled in response to that train of thought. There had been much trouble about the Weyr since their arrival.

He lifted his hands up to the area and began rubbing the oil in. As Tereth rumbled, he continued on. "It just something that seems silly, but I keep feeling like more oil is being used. The only problem is, its so little its like daily usage." He rubbed a little harder at the spot. "I feel like it is important because of all the other rumors I have heard."

He looked to S'ren, "Am I wrong to be feeling like this?"
PostPosted: Wed Jul 21, 2010 8:58 pm

Well, if it was actually as little as 'daily usage' amount it then really did seem a silly thing to be concerned about, but it was only natural that they should have different perspectives on the matter. "With everything that has been going on around here, it is understandable to be more concerned about things that you might not have otherwise noticed," the brownrider replied, moving on to a new spot on Tereth's flank. "If it is really something that's nagging at you, I would suggest you keep a close watch and gather more information. Perhaps look into some of those other rumors that have been concerning you and find out if there is actually any truth in them."

Tereth greatly enjoyed his itches being addressed, and the Brown quickly relaxed into the oiling. That felt nice.

Thought about what S'ren said as he continued rubbing Tereth. "I.. I think I will do that. Thank you." He worked on the spot til his flit came by. With an oiled finger he rubbed the gold flit between the eyes. She crooned at the Brown dragon, as in thanks for needing oil.

S'ren smiled as the gold flit appeared and took her place with her master. "I see you have a little beast of your own," he remarked conversationally. "What is her name?"

Just then the Brownrider's own flit blinked into existence next to him, carrying a small tunnel snake proudly in her mouth. "Ah, there you are, Ruby. I was wondering where you had gotten to." The flit gave a muffled chirp in greeting before resuming her usual post upon her human's shoulders. "Um, please don't eat that thing while you're on me." Pouting, the small crimson fluttered over to a large nearby rock instead to eat her freshly caught treat.

Hello, there, Tereth said in greeting to the little gold.

"Ah, yeah, that I do. Her name is Ishbel." He watched the riders flit pop in. Ishbel chirped at the crimson, inquiring about more tunnel snakes. Her little eyes took in the brown and she hovered in front of him. "I believe I might have spoiled that one." Saykiro said chuckling at the antics of his flit

The Brownrider chuckled. "Easy enough to do."

At the gold's inquiry, Ruby let out another muffled chirp and gladly offered up part of her tunnel snake to share. Even if it was just a small one, she wouldn't mind at all sharing the meet with another of her kind.

With S'ren and the Candidate working together, the two were able to finish up the little bit of oiling that Tereth needed rather quickly. "Thank you for your help today," the black-haired rider remarked appreciatively. "I'll be sure to grab some extra oil later. Hopefully you can enjoy a bit of freetime yourself before moving on to your other chores." The Brownrider remembered his own Candidacy days quite well, and with all that was going on currently he didn't doubt they were all being run ragged. Still, should the day come that he impressed a dragon, the youth likely wouldn't find himself any better off on the workload.

Ishbel chirped and went over to share. It was always nice to make new friends.

"Well, maybe towards the evening I will have some spare time. It was a pleasure helping." Saykiro patted Tereth, "Thank you, brown Tereth. See you around S'ren."
