Time never seemed to pass cohesively in the Rift; what felt like minutes might be an hour, and what felt like hours might have been only minutes. Maybe it was the dismal landscape, or the strange electric storms in the distance, or just the oversaturated Chaos that seemed to cling to everything and everyone within it.

Axinite’s volunteers had split up into many groups after he’d shared with them all information he could provide. No one had been permitted to leave on their own, and Axinite had firmly encouraged everyone to be overprepared.

Hubris had already lost them so many soldiers; he didn’t want this rescue mission to turn into a tragedy, too.

He had departed into the Rift, himself, though seemed wary to take any teams with him. Three hours and forty two minutes into the search, everyone was sent coordinates and a small note from the General King:

‘He’s in the area. Something’s wrong. Please come prepared.’

And so, he stood, and waited. His energy signature was easy enough to follow for anyone who was otherwise having trouble navigating the Rift. He stood outside the opening to a narrow path that lead between two towering cliff faces.

Axinite had summoned his weapon, a great axe with a large chip in the blade, and seemed to be leaning against it as he waited.

Quote:
Axinite has sent the same message to every volunteer who joined him in the search! No one would have been permitted to search in the Rift without going with a team, and all vulnerable members of the Negaverse would have been paired with a team that could ensure protection. You can handwave this or roleplay arriving as a group; you may choose to RP exploring the Rift prior to this if you are interested, but this is not necessary! Prompts will be posted every 48 hours to allow everyone to participate. You do not need to have participated in the Information ORP OOCly to participate in this ORP, but you must at least handwave that ICly you were involved in the meeting and are a part of the search party.

This will be a Battle ORP; dice roll mechanics will be implemented for narrative effect but are not vital to defeating the boss.

If you are interacting with Axinite, please make sure to quote The Space Cauldron! When posting in this thread, please include your character’s name in bold font at the top of their post!

This ORP will go on for ~two weeks! If you have any questions, please PM The Space Cauldron! The associated Concept Contest will end on March 7th and the winner will be announced before the end of this ORP!

Captain Bloodstone
Bloodstone didn’t know the names of the others he and Carnallite were with during the initial part of the search. He didn’t bother to ask, and he didn’t really care once they were summoned by a message from General King Axinite. Bloodstone already had his weapon at the ready, but made sure not to lose track of Carnallite in the changing landscapes of the Rift.

So far they’d been lucky. They hadn’t come across anything too unsavory, but now that the General King wanted them there, he could only assume there was something big waiting for them.

“Still bored?” he asked over his shoulder to Carnallite. There weren’t many things to do while they searched, except scare off smaller youma. And they weren’t there to be social.

___________________

General Jet
Jet made a face as he and his group consisting of at least Aquamarine and Seraphinite arrived at the location the General King called them to. The narrow path could at least mean any large youma couldn’t get in, but he was concerned that any youma wanting to get out would cause more issues.

“Probably a good time for those earrings…” Jet looked to Aquamarine, having already asked him to hold off on using the special set he had that would allow them to communicate to each other more effectively than with speech. In the meantime, he looked around to see if Rigel was trailing close behind with any of the other senshi he knew.

He didn’t bother asking if Axinite had been to this area of the Rift before. He knew the Rift could change, could play tricks on them. Jet would just assume that Axinite hadn’t, which meant they were best to be as prepared as possible, as the General King had already suggested.

“You think they’ll be okay?” Jet asked to Seraphinite, glancing over his shoulder to the corrupted senshi. He didn’t want to task Seraphinite to look after them, but he also knew this was already dangerous.

Corrupted Sailor Taenite
Although Taenite would have preferred to stay at Axinite’s side to make sure the man didn’t get himself killed, he followed orders (a bit reluctantly) and found a couple of other senshi who he could hang out with during their search.

“Have you tested your magic out on anyone yet?” Taenite asked his blond companion of the two. “Cymophane, right? I’ve tried out my magic in a training room, but I’ll admit it, I’m still pretty new.”

Even though his main goal was to make sure he got the promotions Axinite said he would get if he worked hard enough, Taenite figured talking to others wouldn’t hurt. At least one of his group was friendly. The other looked like he would rather not be there.

Corrupt Eternal Kamacite
Kamacite would only rather not be there because some white haired senshi decided to take up all of Cymophane’s attention, and could possibly distract him and put him into unnecessary danger. For three hours and forty two minutes already.

How he ended up watching over this other new Negaverse Senshi, Kamacite had no idea.

He kept his arms crossed over his chest, more for warmth than as a defensive gesture. Kamacite was already nervous about being called to Axinite’s position. This was no time to be fooling around and chatting about magic. They were there for a job. Hopefully one where they would all make it out alive.

Corrupted Sailor Ferris

She needed to do her job. That was important, and the senshi reached for Cafetite's hand immediately as she followed the other woman. And now? Now the corrupt stayed close, eyes taking everything in. The spark she'd had felt smothered and blocked and Ferris wasn't sure what to do... But being near others made her anxiety easier to deal with. She didn't want to be alone, and she didn't know any oither way to handle it than to perhaps cling.

She looked around slowly, though, trying to work out what in the area might be causing problems, wondering if "Feldspar" needed help, or a hug. She could try to be less of a shambling mess of loneliness to help someone who needed it, she supposed! Still....

"You don't think something hurt them do you?" Ferris asked, frowning.

Lt. Peridot

This was new.

Peridot was confident -- not in her weapon, that was an embroidery hoop - but more in her stilettos, if she needed to hammer the heel into an opponent. Stilettos were the real deadliest weapon and she knew how to use them. And as much as she considered performing her singing routine for a more social gathering of Negaverse agents, today called for business and focus, and the extroverted cheer she offered her fellows was replaced by the reason she was bound to succeed. There was a target, now was the time to find it.

Peridot hummed a moment, looking to Athenite as she prepared to move out and offered a neutral expression, motioning with a perfectly manicured hand to the other woman calmly.

"So, shall we work together? Far more efficient to cooperate, I would think." She offerted. She wanted to offer, and not assume. There was room for some decorum, after all.

Lieutenant Eveite

Eveite had only barely made it to the gathering beforehand and had time to grab a single pastry before she was herded off into a group to go and explore the rift. She had only just finished looking at the coding projects of one of her classes, so she was tired and trying to find... whatever it was in the Rift that they were looking for. Another Lieutenant?

But it felt like they had barely begun and the General-King was already telling them where to go and that they had found the Lieutenant, making her wonder if they really needed to split into groups in the first place. Though she did raise an eyebrow at the something's wrong part. From what she had heard of the Rift, she wasn't sure what was supposed to be right especially when they were trying to find someone that they hadn't been able to locate for a while. Seemed a bit silly, but she wasn't one to say that sort of thing out loud.

She came with her small group and saw that there were a few that had already made it. Well, at least it wasn't just her and the General-King here! That would have been awkward!

Lieutenant Carnallite

Carnallite arched a brow and met Bloodstone with an otherwise flat expression.

Bored? No, not really. There may not have been much in the way of action for their group so far, but the Rift itself was an intriguing sight. She would have liked to explore longer. Surely there was much more to see, and much more to encounter than the feeble youma they’d dealt with thus far.

She eyed the General King but said nothing to him, glancing at his axe, her bland expression tinged with suppressed jealousy.

Carnallite had her own weapon drawn, but it likely wouldn’t do much. A plastic boomerang was practically useless against any foe.

Fortunately, she didn’t need a weapon to defend herself.

“Speak for yourself,” she muttered to Bloodstone.

---

General Aquamarine

The Corrupt Senshi could all rot down here, as far as Aquamarine was concerned. The fact that they had to be anywhere near them was a travesty. He ignored them as much as he could and was purposefully rude to them when ignoring them wasn’t feasible. Jet could play friendly all he wanted; Aquamarine had no such intention.

At Jet’s suggestion, Aquamarine summoned his new pair of earrings, passing one to Jet but keeping the other for himself.

“Don’t put it on until we go through,” he said.

He had no idea what could be down the path between the two cliff faces and didn’t want to start using any of the earrings’ power until it was necessary to do so, especially if they were going to be down here for several more hours.

Which seemed likely. How long had it been already?

---

Corrupt Sailor Cymophane

Cymophane was perfectly capable of splitting his attention between two people, thank you very much. He was very good at multitasking.

Smiling at Taenite, he said, “Not on anyone, no, but I used the training room, too, just to see what it does.”

He had no idea how powers were chosen, if something in the universe decided what sort of magic they should have, or if it was all by pure chance. Or was it their starseed? Did Kamacite mention something about their starseeds? They were important, he knew that much.

“I’m pretty new, too,” Cymophane admitted. “I only joined in the last week or so.”

He glanced at Kamacite, offering the both of them another smile. “Watch out for Kamacite’s magic, if things start going downhill. He could blind you.”

LT. Atheneite

The rift was a bit awe inspiring for Atheneite. The area was soaked in chaos and there were great thunder storms in the distance. She had always liked thunder storms. Something about the way they blacked the sky and gave only the briefest glimpse of light with their lightning strikes was truly captivating. She wanted to explore this landscape. She would do it some day, when she could come back on her own. But for now she had a job to do.

Atheneite summoned her baton to her hand tossing it up and catching it, getting a feel for the weight of the brass object. It was no weapon, at least not what Atheneite would consider a weapon, not like the generals and captains had. But it was better than nothing, although she was definitely not opposed to using her fist if need be. She swung her baton a few times stretching out before what she presumed, or rather hoped, would be a series of intense battles.

She hadn't fought any chaos entities since she had been awoken as an officer and even then it had only been one small youma. She was excited to see what the rift had to throw at her. A wide and wicked grin broke on her face just thinking about what was to come.

She looked at her would be partner. She didn't trust her, she didn't trust anyone but she was willing to at least put her faith into this woman to not stab her in the back. "That sounds like a good plan, two is better than one." She looked out at the land again. "So any thoughts on where we should begin?"

Captain Sylvite

Being in an organization like the Negaverse for a couple years had really helped Sylvite appreciate things like delayed gratification and the long game, at least in theory.

In reality, she was not anywhere close to patient.

The first hour or so of the search had gone okay. Her attempts to be really serious and focused had lasted all of about ten minutes, and when nothing too dangerous happened after that, she'd let herself chill out a little bit. While no lost agents had shown up yet, she did find some cool stuff, like a really, really big crystal, and a youma that looked like it had peacock feathers on it or something, and that was gave her something to stare at for a while, and something to scribble down notes about while they walked.

Then the sugar from the snacks wore off, and after that even the Rift scenery kinda started to blur together. Sylvite lolled and lagged, but she did at least keep walking without complaining.

She was determined to be a good enough soldier to do that.

She jumped when the communicator finally when off, but actually kinda smiled when she saw that the coordinates weren't too far.

"Ooh! They found something," she said.

Corrupt Eternal Cybele

Cybele was used to long hunts, and critical situations, and even the dimness and the other persistent oddities of Negaspace. It was difficult to track here, partially because the heavy Chaos that pulsed through the very ground here swallowed up any auras that might have been around, and partially because she was constantly looking over her shoulder, making sure that none of the youma were drawing too close.

Perhaps the General-King had talked to them beforehand. Nothing tried to eat her, but she was still wary.

She gave the search her best effort, given the circumstances. She was fast enough to cover ground relatively quickly, and she found several crystal caves and odd grottoes that certainly could have hidden someone, although they all happened to be empty.

Someone else must have found something, because the tablet went off.

General Lopezite

Lopezite had gone with a small group to explore the Rift; he and Alpersite might have been good enough on their own but he wasn’t going to risk something happening to him. They’d had an uneventful exploration when they received the message from Axinite, and an equally uneventful trip to the coordinates he provided.

He could feel other energy signatures in the area, but to him they felt distorted. Like Negaverse Agents, like people he knew, but far away and warped. The closer they got to the coordinates, the more normal they felt, and even as a General he felt a strangeness at what the Rift did to him.

What it could do to anyone who could be stuck down here for too long.

“Stay close,” he said for the umpteenth time, as they approached Axinite and the growing crowd.

Axinite looked at the group as they arrived, seeming relieved to see their numbers growing. He had been concerned that they would have found trouble while in the great expanses of the Rift but everyone that arrived seemed to do so in good condition, and he’d had few reports back that anyone had encountered any hardships.

He lingered for a few moments as the group joined him, and assessed their condition before he asked more of them.

His tablet was tucked away and he spoke to the group in a low, steady voice despite the unease he felt.

A strange, crystal sheen coated the cliff faces between the gap. They wouldn’t be able to pass as a large group, but two or three at a time seemed reasonable to pass with a bit of shoulder space between them.

Axinite’s gaze shifted from within the shadows of the narrow pass to the rocky terrain around them, like he was looking for something. Briefly, in the distance, it looked like something unnatural moved, but when it flickered from sight he just turned his focus back to the group.

“Everything I’m picking up seems to be coming from in here. But something,” he paused, briefly distracted again, and then continued, “Isn’t sitting right with me. I don’t think this is safe.”

The giant claw marks in the nearby rocks, or the cliff faces, was probably indication enough.

“...I’d like to stay out here for a moment and make sure everyone arrives safely. If you go ahead, don’t do so alone, please.” He nodded towards the path, and it was clear that he wanted to get this done with as quickly as possible.

He gripped his axe so tightly the weapon nearly seemed to strain and his eyes narrowed beyond the crowd, into the distance again.

Captain Bloodstone: 4 + 1 = 5

Bloodstone didn’t miss the way Carnallite glanced at Axinite’s weapon, and he absolutely agreed with her that a better weapon would be best for everyone. He had an even more pathetic weapon before, but the one he had now made up for it.

He almost wanted to go hunting for that Knight whose dog tried ripping off his leg. Once Carnallite had more power, they would have to go together and let her take out her frustrations on some dumb mutt and its owner.

Glancing up at the cliff face, Bloodstone wasn’t too sure about charging into what was surely death. Letting the idiots that decide to charge in meet their demise was probably the easiest way to earn new promotions anyway.

He cast a glance in Carnallite’s direction, as though to see what her thoughts on the matter were. They couldn’t exactly read each other’s minds, but they knew each other well enough that they might as well be able to. Weapon in hand, he made his way down the path as ordered.

_____________________________

Corrupt Eternal Kamacite: 2 + 2 = 4

Kamacite frowned as they were faced with going into some narrow path where there had obviously been something monstrous clawing at the rock. He reached out to grab hold of Cymophane’s arm before he could head in too quickly. It was bad enough that there were plenty of new Negaverse Senshi there, he didn’t want Cymophane to end up being bait.

Which… that was essentially what Negaverse Senshi were.

“Stay with me,” he asked his friend, hoping that despite Cymophane’s bright smile and cheerful attitude, he wasn’t letting his guard down. They would go down the path as ordered, but with great caution.

_____________________________

General Jet: 10 + 2 = 10

Jet waited just long enough to hear General King Axinite’s plans, before turning to head down the path. If there was a youma there, then it better get out of the way. Once upon a time Jet would have agreed that he was reckless, but at the moment there was a mission and a time limit on getting the missing Lieutenant out safely. They couldn’t risk standing around, waiting for a good opportunity.

Rigel, you’re good keeping an eye on the others?” Jet asked over his shoulder, knowing how dangerous it would be for Corrupted Senshi to face off against any kind of youma. They were there on a rescue mission, after all, and Jet had no desire for there to be any casualties.

“We’ll scout ahead,” he said, deciding for Aquamarine what they would do. He glanced over to Seraphinite to see if he would be heading in as well, although Jet personally thought it would be better if Generals drew out whatever was hiding.

We already talked about this. You might not like them, but they’re beneficial fighting the White Moon, Jet thought to Aquamarine as he clasped the earring in place and drew his weapon from subspace as they proceeded down the path.

Corrupted Sailor Taenite: 1 No Bonus

Taenite flashed a winning smile at Cymophane, pleased to know he wasn’t the only new one there. But it looked like he was being dragged around by the grumpy looking pretty boy with the long black hair, so Taenite took the opportunity to check in with the General King.

“Smart, keeping to the back,” Taenite, said with a low voice and purposeful wink at the General King. “You’ll probably need help with the other stragglers, so I’ll stick around too I think. With your permission, of course, boss.” He didn’t want to disobey orders, but he also knew a good opportunity when he saw it.

Besides, he was a brand new Senshi, and fighting a big bad would be a horrible idea.

(Rolls will be mashed into next post because... y'know.)

Lieutenant Cafetite

Cafetite was somewhat relieved that Ferris reached for her hand first, because her Mama Duck urges were kicking in and she had to fight the urge to hold the Corrupt's hand and lead her along the whole time. Even if Ferris was looking around, her attention remained on the sad, shy Corrupt. The question she asked was a good one, and Cafetite wasn't entire sure she could sugarcoat the possible outcome. "I feel like General-King Axinite wouldn't be quite this tense if there wasn't something dangerous around, but..." She paused as she tried to go over what Axinite had said. "He's still alive. He just can't be called back for some reason."

Paracelsian had a way of slipping in and out of his mind when he wanted to kill time. Yes, he should have been more careful in the Rift, but after a chunk of time, his processes just kind of fuzzed over as the crystal sheens in the darkness blended together.

He remained near Sylvite for the majority of the trip, but was running out of things to say. They found something, all right.
