Name: Kaiko Ekewaka (strong current in the sea, the protector or guardian of riches or wealth) Race: Moakai Gender: Male 3 Base Traits:
Leadership Strength Kindness Enjoys Life Stubborn Devious Clever Hunter
Personality: Leadership - this will develop more as he reaches stage 2, currently trying to be completely free of his parants for a while.
Strength - he has a strong mind and a strong body, when push comes to shove he can get it done either way.
Kindness - He has many feels, he likes helping the young and being an advisor where he can to develop them into all that they can be. He listens to everyones story and tries his best to come to a good outcome, when he is not able to do that he feels like he let others down.
Enjoys Life - what is the point of existing if you can't simply enjoy it, he wished his parents would sit back and enjoy themselves for a change, instead of trying to control the families lives to within an inch of his sanity, he thinks they have been in the dark deeper caves for too long.
Stubborn - the apple did not fall far from the tree here either, if he is pointing in an opposite direction good luck, he had likely done the research and the foot work to arrive at that conclusion.
Devious - for the most part he uses his intelligence for the greater good BUUUT don't piss him off cuz he will hold a grudge and make you pay for it if he gets the chance, all is fair in love war and pranking.
Clever - the same kind of clever used to describe the velociraptors in jurrassic park, an almost ancientness that has stuck through his bloodline despite the hysteria that somehow skipped him
Hunter - he is focused on his goals and lives for the excitement of the hunt. Weather it be to see or capture an animal, thing or person he is down for the challenge.
Description: Red eyes, the dark rich blue scales and hair, hair is long and very very straight. Will be the maximum height allowed at 6'5 when he is fully mature with a well muscled body. Maybe a tad less muscle than this but this shaped on the torso. Hair Clothing: A more natural looking version of this, dark and bright green plantlife if possible(as close to this as allowed looking for a bit of contrast. Linko Oh and please not the hat yikes no XD Accessories: an orca whale tooth with Dark blue and forest green beads. History: Kaiko was part of a somewhat more dignified family than normal, many expectations have always been placed on him as his family is very ambitious. His parents were part of an arranged marriage and he was the result of a fortuitous bloom of real love between the pair. Kaiko got the stately pressence of his mother with the charisma of his father, his parents have rediculously high hopes for him in the future. He is intelligent and well schooled in nature and reading currents and tides, his parents nicknamed him prince of the sea. But what he felt with the ocean was always more than the shallow title. (pun not intended but feel free to laugh). The ocean has always held such a deeper meaning for him, he is a part of it, he is in no way its lord or master, it was always in control. He naturally gravitated toward the spiritual end of the spectrum and having some freedom to come up with his own way to show respect and worship he is very satisfied with that part of his life.
His parents continue to try to push him to social outings for most of his early life, until he can somewhat avoid it as a prentice. He uses his spirtuality as an excuse to escape their clutches to the boundaries of where it was comfortable to be. He wants to explore the seas. His explorations have brought him to the shallower end of the matorian sea and this is where he stays to escape the cloistered life at home. His parents continue to search for him and he has no doubt that they will find him one day and try to drag him back home. He does not look forward to it but doesn't dwell on it either. He missed home but couldn't stand the extreme pressure and drive of his parents for him to be perfect.
He is exceedingly curious about the earthings and aishans catching snippets of news or information or gossip from those that have ventured forth. He is also curious but to a lesser degree about his fellow kahikinians.

So Ikaika was chosing the sword to protect him. Where were a swordsman's weak points? Was there a way that Kaiko could be just as dangerous close and far away so that he could help out his friend when the time came to battle for his freedom? Freedom, what did it meant to him that there was someone out there willing to risk his neck to save him? To put it all on the line so that they could enjoy adventures and really have a freedom to move about in a world in such a way that he would not be concerned about being captured, potentially collared when his parents got a hold of him this time to be dragged back to his well appointed cave which was basically a cell done up in fetching decor. A candy coated pile of algae slime if he had ever seen one.
Well it meant the world. Ikaika was the defender and protector. Kaiko was the noble. But there were noble arts that his talents led him too. He was not bad with magic. But he felt there was a more noble course, that of the blade. Not the giant blades that Ikaika wanted to weild, those were far to ungainly, might as well be using a club no, but smart and dexterous fingers lent themselves to another blade. A smaller, sharper more cunning blade that made his heart light up to think about. Yes the bladesong called to him. Throwing knives and daggers could be hidden and still the cold presence of the metal leant steel to any resolve. Like that which would be needed when they made their stand against his besotted family. No doubt they had found and even more objectable, milksop bride for him. There were no terrors in the deep any more. Too cultured and refined. When he took a mate, if ever he wanted a strong one so that their children would not be cowed as he was as a child.
He was still scared by the memories of feeling helpless and unheard. His parents to focused on other things besides making him an obedient creature. Thankfully his tutors back then had been made of stronger stuff, they disaproved of how he was being treated but did not wish to loose their jobs so they in their own devious way had made him smarter, critical thinking was issued at every project and strategy had been inlaid into his bones. He was a weapon in all but hand and he wanted to amend that mistake by training with knives so that he could best protect Ikaika's back. Everyone would notice the huge menehune but not everyone would see the 2nd shadow.
He would protect Ikaika in turn and they would both make it out of this free men, with family who he need not worry about doubting. Ikaika had not come out of his own childhood without fantastic scars on his psyche. Loosing one's parents apparently did that, though Kaiko had a feeling he would not have much emotion to spare for his own if something happened to them. He would be relieved of a tyranny that had started the moment his poor egg had hatched to the two madly powerhungry nobles. His mother saw what he could buy her and his father saw a political pawn to be used at his own disgretion. Having a child gave them prestige but not joy.
He would not live his life like that, he swore. His would be a life of movement and growth and real bonds, real love, real everything. No more the fakeness of the Deep Court, where everybody secretly knew all of the secrets of everyone else and considered how best to use them to manipulate the others to stand or raise their favor.

Class Quest
Kaiko was inside cooking when he noticed all the moakai outside. He turned, excellent. At least he was in the right place. All the knives lived in the kichen, he had a lot and he was so reaady. "Leave, tell my parents. I am a free man. They stole my childhood, I will not let them steal my adulthood in the same careless manner. Do not come closer."
A knife flashed into his hand as if from nowhere. Kaiko smiled. The guards kept advancing. Knives whizzed by his assailants, thudding into the walls.
"That was your only warning."
Reddish eyes blazing and with only one quick entry point, Kaiko could hold the house indefinitely. His friend was all he cared about and he knew they wouldn't hurt him. That would cross a line not even his parents would risk.
So he purposely pushed Ikaika out of his mind and blade danced for his life. In the end with many, many cuts and knicks the soldiers gave up and went to inform his parents. They were not paid enough for this. One of them had almost lost an eye.
They showed up as he knew they would. Setting foot for the first time on land for this auspicious occasion to get to the isolated cove where Ikaika and Kaiko had built their house. It was salt water but the water entry was too rocky and sharp to swim through, something that had been calculated when they moved here.
His parents refused to admit they had lost before they had even started. He was too old and on foreign soil, not much they could do.
"Mother, Father, so nice to see you."
"Don't act like you are surprised we are here, boy," his Father growled.
"He knew we were coming dear, he got that smart mouth from you." His mother took this moment to needle both his Father and himself. It was her specialty.
Kaiko sighed, even here they bickered. They didn't look as scary as they squinted out at him.
He bared his teeth. This would be the end of the torment. There would be no more wallowing in worry. His only concern fighting to come to the fore was where was Ikaika?
Had they actually done something to him?
"Where is my friend? The one who also lives here."
"Well, fortunately our soldiers knocked him out, before he could take any more of them. I must say he really took this seriously. Silly boy." High praise coming from his Father.
His mother looked at his face. "He is healthy, just out cold." A least she saw how Kaiko felt. he was sort of proud that Ikaika had impressed his Dad.
Kaiko continued to glare at them, maintaining his edge, not letting them see any weakness, besides his very real concern for Ikaika.
Friends thankfully they would not trouble, as it would hurt their blessed reputation but when the conflict was in your own family any measures neccessary were used to save face. "Go, I do not want you here, you are not welcome." He moved his arms in a shooing motion.
"You think it is so easy to escape us?" His Mother asked, the sneer on her face most unbecoming.
"Hah, so you admit that my old home was a prison I had to escape from, bold to do in public don't you think?" He nodded his head at the townsfolk who didn't seem to appreciate the intrusion. Someone must have seen Ikaika fight and warned the town. Some foragers came out this far. And the two sea goers were much liked among the other villagers.
His mother actually hissed at him, he was impressed. His Father hushed her and straightened his finely tailored coat.
"When you are ready to apologize, come home." His Father said before turning his Mother away and retreating.

Blurb:
Kaiko was able to prove that when it really matters, he can stand up to any fear that stands in his way. In his eyes he has won completely and utterly. Rewarded for the effort he is determined to really embrace the new life he had created for himself. Parent and worry free. He was also able to be concerned for Ikaika but focus on the task at hand.
Hakuna matata.
His renewed vigor brightens his community who have come to support him as one of them.

Gardening Solo He scented the air and water that morning with his coffee and determined that the time of the Matorian storms that had been a constant seasonal thrum from the time they had landed here were done. It was time to attend the garden and clear out all the nasties that had accumulated through the push and pull of mighty winds and storms. Their garden had once only been under the water but now it was double tiered with gardens above and below. It had become his biggest hobby, especially once the kids were grown up enough to look after themselves. A few of them and Ikaika helped but the garden brought him the most joy. It reminded him of all the memories with Akea when she was small and those of packing his other babies around and doing chores in the soil. There was something just so rewarding about it and he couldn't quite put his finger on it. He enjoyed his coffee with his family but was already distracted with planning and what he needed to do. Brush both above and below would have to be cleared from the beds. Some of it was old garden material that had not been ousted during the after season clean as a place for critters to hibernate through the storms. He worked with nature not against it. Although the gardens were so big that they usually didn't get everything cleared up anyway. Breakfast went by in a blur and then he was out there in the yard pulling branches and piling them up out of the way, on land to burn so he could use the ash later and in the water to provide nesting spaces for his favorite fish that tended to hang around their lands. It was hard work and he had to take breaks once in a while but the result was well worth it. He got to see what all of his land would look like in preparation for the planting season. It was little different above as below. Just different forces at work, wave instead of wind. Once that was done and the land brush piles burned. He took the ashes and manure from the nearby beast ranch and well rotted seaweed and amended all of the above sea beds, the fish would have done the work for him already below as he had let them graze on leftovers last year and what went in eventually had to come out. This whole process took a few days to get to all the places he needed to. He had no trouble sleeping at night as it was a lot of effort during the day for a body used to vegetating somewhat through winter. Soon enough though his muscles were worked in and the job got that much easier. Family helped him out where they could but he always took pride in doing the brunt of it.
Next on the docket was his favorite part, he had spent the winter collecting and trading different kinds of seeds. He maintained that a gardener's garden was as individual as their taste in music or a fingerprint. Unique to that place and those people. That thought always made him smile. A garden fingerprint of their family. Akea had a similar garden but hers was curated as per her taste and slightly different again from his. He got out his hoard of seed packets and spread them over the kitchen table. Sometimes he pulled them out in winter just to look at them as even doing that made him happy and brightened the boring stormy days where they were all locked inside for the passing of one gale or another. There was only so many books one could read end to end before they got bored and he had reached his limit a few weeks ago in fact. The pile of unreads sat in shame by his chair at the hearth his cozy blanket lay draped and forlorn but it was at last seed planting time and his heart was full of gladness not caged energy for a change.
First he sorted the seeds into two piles, the ones he wanted to grow that year and the ones he didn't. His family knew not to interupt him too much during this process at it took his whole concentration up. It was a ritual a compulsion he could no more not garden as he could choose to just loose his mind. Next came the what do I have room for sorting which was always much much harder to do. A gardener's constant problem and vex, besides weather of course and predators was that they never ever had enough room for what they wanted to do. It was a long standing running joke in their gardening community of Matori. He smiled thinking about it as he went through the painstaking process of whittling down those he wasn't quite as excited about as others. This of course was the key to pulling through the boring days of caring for plants for months before they bore fruit. Although every day there was always something new to be found in the garden, whether that be a new leaf, a bud a flower or a developing fruit. It was quite different of course from harvest days when you could finally enjoy all the labor you put in. It was not a significant amount of work for smaller gardens but it had to be consistant which for some people was quite hard. Other days that were more inclement in weather required more work than calm days where you could water and go, or weed and go if it rained. Eventually he had his collected whittled down to what he could actually plant, plus a few spares in case one crop or another failed early, the other extras of which he could always bring to the market which in turn helped buy more seeds for next year. It was good to try and get your hobbies to somehow pay for themselves or at least to help them offset the cost of doing them. However gifts were something else entirely the cost of that simply being eaten by good will and the joy itself of gift giving. Next was the actual planting of the seeds, which was just about as fun as picking them out. He preparred quite a few seed trays and started them all by hand. A painstaking process to some but it made him happy to have everything laid out just like he wanted with everything in its proper place and well labeled. Some folks didn't use labels but the thought of that tried to drive him crazy along with a bit of fascination he was a label everything type person when it came to gardening so that you might discover something new if that was a thing. Gardens visited by fiesty pollinators always had a chance of intercrossing. Once all the seeds were in there was really nothing to do but wait for them to germinate which took a few days at the earliest. This did not stop him checking them once a day even when they were first planted just to see what was coming along and to start building the habit of checking every day which was very important. He did not plant everything at once but started with the hardiest and over the next few days and weeks he would plant the others. Some took a long time to get going and others preferred to be placed right in the ground and not transplanted at all. Something about picky/delicate root systems and the like.
After a few days of waiting which might he add felt like 3 years, there were new little seedlings poking up out of the soil, some still in the swan necked phase of emerging from the seed and others fully leafed out with seed leaves and smiling in a very green way up at him. Every time he saw new seeds he got a rush of happy feelings like they were also his children. Something his real children might not have appreciated had they known feeling themselves somewhat superior to simple plants. He took care of the seedlings checking them once or twice and day and watering them when they needed it. Soon they grew into hearty young plants that could be hardened off. This was done to protect the small plant as it was moved outside the house to harsher conditions outside in the case of above water, the sun and below the harsher waves and movement. This did nothing to protect from the plant eaters which awaited this time in the spring hungrily and always watching with bit doe or fish eyes. Once the plants had slowly been exposed to outdoor conditions they were ready to be placed in the garden. This was both very rewarding and very nervewracking and he put physical barriers around his plants to protect them from the aforementioned predators. 1506
