Ikaika 1

"You want to go where?"

Ikaika asked quite sure that either he had heard wrong or that he was going mad. He looked at Kaiko, really looked at him.

"I thought you would not risk getting caught."

Kaiko's family had shown hi what they were willing to do to their son and he was not impressed. He was so confused.

Kaiko 1

"I don't want to go home-home. I'm not going to knock on the door and shout 'you win!' It's the wrong season for searching, at this point in the year they are too focused on social events and inching up increments at a time to a better station in life."

He wasn't bitter. He was savage. The tyranny had kept him from the abyss for so long that he felt the unresistable need to break in under their nose and claim and ancient birth right that risked being denied him. Sometimes you had to do something to teach yourself that anything was possible if you tried hard enough.

Ikaika 2

"Well so long as ou are sure there is no risk to you."

He was Kaiko's friend, so it was only up to Kaiko to decide what to do. Ikaika would support him. Family was ever a sticky subject in life it seemed. He still craved one though. People to have your back no matter what, the places where you belonged. He wanted to belong.

Kaiko 2

"You were right I can't cower for forever.' He missed the deep, the familiar blackness.

"My family is ancient, there are tradions and rituals that i was taught that my parents have forgotten, I don't intend to forget them. I want to show you."

Ikaika was his only friend up here, partially because he wanted to keep a low profile.

He was also starting to feel trapped but safe and the safety had made him bolder.

Plus what he wanted to do was really cool, dangerous yes but cool.

"I'll tell you the tales on the way."

Ikaika 3

What followed was one of the longest, darkest and most interesting trips. He never thought that he would venture back to where Ahio was from. He could not say that he missed the darkness, but it was okay, even almost fun when you had a guide. he didn't feel so vulnerable with Kaiko's strongly quiet form beside him. If anything he felt protected.

Thus they were deep in the wilds when Kaiko stopped them. So far they had evaded detection.

Kaiko turned to Ikaika, here was the most special place for his people. An ancient tradition for this noble line on his Mother's side, not that that mattered much in particular. they had forgotten but he had gotten ito his Mother's history books and seen all of the ancient knowledge laid out before him. He had even carved both of them a Jade pendant that represented the spirit that guided them.

"I don't know if you wanted to join me in this. this is the ancient right of passage for my Mother's family, forgotten for many generations. It is dangerous and somewhat terrifying."

he could not guarantee his safety.

Ikaika 4

So it was dangerous then, or Kaiko wouldn't look so concerned, well fortune favors the brave.

"Yeah, I'll do it, for you." Being a part of Kaiko's family wouldn' be a bad thing.

"What is it we are doing anyhow?" he asked. He couldn't see much of anything just faintly the ruins.

Something flashed in the dark and his hackled rose a bit.

"What are they?" They looked like the scary serpents on the really old maps.

Kaiko 4

"They are the Nahii. This is their chosen nesting ground. My families crews is a nahii for a reason. It was said if you came at the right time, the New Long Moon, applied the glows with paint to your skin and performed a dance that you learn from the eel itself you have the chance to make a friend for life."

Of course if you didn't you risked getting quite an awful bite if not worse. But why terrify him it was very rare.

Ikaika 5

"Huh," the legendary longfish and he was gong to go face to face with this thing and dance with it. Proceeding to hoping it didn't eat his face.

No pressure. Well he had come this far anyway.

He stepped forward to paint the glow gel on his face, it was surprisingly oily and bound well to his skin. Once he felt he ha a pleasing pattern he swam over to a green and lime green female.

He watched her movements avidly and then did his best to mimic here.
He paused and watched politely as he finished.

He'd held his breath as the eel seemed to assess him. Eventually she swam out of her den to swirl around him, seeming not to hurry but actually she was moving quite quickly in comparison to anything that he could achieve.

Kaiko watched joyfully as the Nahii chose to accept his friend. She was a beautiful female as well. they made a very handsome pair and now it was his turn to complete his brithrite.

He took a deep breath and swam into what looked like a cathedral cavern. Nahii's heads were poking out of their holes as they seemed to share the latest gossip with each other before going out on the New Moon Hunt. There was a particularly handsome red tinted male who was dark grey in body. Kaiko watched his dance then did his fmaily proud with a flawless imitation gained through years of concentrated practice. It paid off as the male exited his cave to swim around Kaiko. It was a good sign of trust.

He grinned from ear to ear, they had passed!

Ikaika 6

In his side vision Ikaika noticed that Kaiko completed the ritual as well and with a very handsome Nahii.
Good thing this had been an ancient tradition or it may not have held. Must be something to do with the eel's heritage.
Wildlife was so fascinating. The eel moved fluidly around him occassionally nudging and bumping into him like she was a gentle pet and not a maneater.

He slowly reached out a hand to stroke her head. So beautiful, so dangerous.
She vibrated under his arm, was this the eel version of purring? Cute!
"Wow I am so glad we did this!" he hissed at Kaiko.

Kaiko 6

"I know right?" For the first time ever in living memory he was truly excited about something without worrying about his family. It was the best figt the Nahiis could have given.
He also looked at Ikaika with a lot more respect. This boy was brave wow. Even followed along on her crazy ideas.

He was so fortunate to have such a good friend.
Ikaika was his rock, his one stationary peice. Everything else seemed to whirl about in chaos but not Ikaika.
Kaiko had come to depend on him for many things, not least of which a companino with which to share his life.

Ikaika 7

Ikaika could see the jou on Kaikos face and that made all the hooplah and travel worth it. this was more like it, only happy.
He still wasn't a big fan of the dark though.
Despite this he felt comfortable here, like it was sacred.
Magic did sometimes work in odd ways, perhaps this was one of those places. Then he ondered if maybe the Nahii were drawn here because of that.
Maybe he would make a decent beast charmer.

Kaiko 7

It felt good to be home for a bit. To have the world stutter to a stop for once. It was a huge relief to be back in the familiar, it also felt a little weird but hey if he was allowed to get tastes of home it was better then staying alone somewhere no on would look for him.
Well no one except Ikaika. He was pretty sure Ikaika would follow him if he asked.

He never wanted this moment to end He swam over to his friend, lovestruck eel swimming leisurely behind him.
Kaiko put his hand on Ikaika's shoulder.

"Thank you for being here, not sure I would have had the courage."

Ikaika 8
"You would have believe me, you are one of the bravest people I know."
Kaiko had had to face the disappointment of the thing he himself wanted the mot, a family.
Ikaika also felf in many ways like Kaiko had become his family in the interlude of weeks and moths they had allowed them to have drama free.
It meant everything to Ikaika at that time to have someone that stayed around, didn't disappear.
There was at least someone to wake up to.
