Ikaika 1
He sat in lotus pose, humming peacefully when a racket outside his door disturbed him to thr point where he almost unseated the orchids he kept in a special nook.
He scrambled to the door to see a very distressed Kaiko, who had some fetching seaweed and a branch stuck through his hair.
"Whats wrong?" He asked, greatly disturbed at the whole thing.
"Are you okay?" His voice cracked and rose an octave.

Kaiko leaped into Ikaika's house.
"Hide me, they have come for me. I don't want to go back Ikaika I had no life there, they were so over bearing." He was hyperventilating now, home was nothing so much more than a trap, he couldnt go back yet he wasnt old enough to be immune to their whim. If they found him they would trap him until he was off an age to marry off. Ugh it was so heartless it made him sick.

Ikaika 2
Ikaika was so startled that his feelers stick straight out from his face in shock. He grabbed Kaikos arm and took him down the hall to a bedtoom, he moved the bed and opened a hole, lifting a grate hidden under a floorboard.
It was specious, "You will fit, dont worry. From the outside you cant tell. Go."
He tucked Kaiko away and went to look busy by doing thr dishes.

Kaiko held his breath as he got into the man pocket underneath the bed. He did not particularly like super tight space all that much. Where he was from truly nasty things liked to hide in similar holes but he repeated to himself over and over that it was Ikaika and he trusted Ikaika very much.
He listened aptly to the going on of the house. Just Ikaika washing dishes for the moment.

Ikaika went to the door to see a bunch of moakai who looked an awful lot lkke kaiko, not much variation between the family members all were royal purple or blue.
"Have you seen another Moakai around?"
"Sorry I haven't, might be up the coast though, the storms tend to push peooke up against the northern coast." That ought to lead them off. It looked like his friend lived with the snob mob.
"Kaiko," he hissed, "What in the hell was that?"

Ikaika helped him up when they were sure the group had fully left.
"My family is not exactly normal. They want to use my as marriage fodder to further their position down below. But I hate the whole game, the gossip the priss the elitism, its all so stressful!"
"I will never be good enough for them but they will sell my hide to the highest bidder."

" Or to whoever has the most power huh? Man, I am so sorry you are going through that. My own parents passed away and left me an orphan at pretty young age, but something I have had a lot of is freedom. I get to choose whatever I want to be." He patted Kaiko's shoulder. He admired the other boy in so many ways. He felt the need to protect him, no one else had bothered to keep up a friendship with him.

He looked at Ikaika with tears trying to form in his eyes. He had never had a proper protector before thatvwas what he had run away innthr first plave. He missed home, he kissed his room and his bed but the constant bickering and nitpicking had always been too much for him and he refused to go back to thst life. He found himsekf mid panic attack grabbing on to ikaika's bicep and clinging there.

Ikaika gently got to his knees and cradled Kaiko as best he could patting thr other boys hair. He was sure that no one had ever seen Kaiko this vulneravle and he was honored that his friend had trusted him.
Kaiko would rather keel over than show weakness in front of anyone he did not trust and he did not trust many.
" I won't let anyone hurt you Kaiko. You are safe here, you will always be safe here."

Kaiko woke up hours later with a terrible hangover type feeling from crying so much the night before. Anxiety was a crippler but it hadn't bee as bad the moment he had crossed Ikaika's threshold. He felt safer here than anywhere else on earth.
He looked down and realized he had been using Ikaika as a pillow. He had never had a friend close enough for sleep overs and he kind of liked the companionship.

Ikaika's leg had long since fallen asleep, so when Kaiko moved it filled with pins and needles. He grimaced but didn't make a noise, their eyes met and something passed between them in that moment. He continued to lay sprawled, rendered helpless until he could again feel his feet.
"I am sure they have gone, up to check the coast. Next time you should stand up to them. They can't force you to do anything."
It rankled him that his friend was being hunted.

Kaiko got up off the floor, stiff and sore but feeling much better for the nap than without it.
"I uh, thank you. If they know where I am they will physically drag me back to my parents. It is easier to hide, you wouldn't consider moving to a free area would you?"
Why did he have to have such a shitty childhood?
"I'm sorry for all the trouble." hopefully the menehune wouldn't kick him out.

"Don't look so ashamed, what kind of amily maintains such control over their children? No wonder you looked so pinched when we first met. Things have to change Kaiko, you cannot run for forever."
He wanted to help, he just wasn't sure what he could o. Kaiko risked capture every time he was outside. Going to Oba wasn't really and option. It was too hot. the sea likely boiled with searchers if they were desperate enough to start searching lands.

He looked down feeling ashamed of his cowardice. he could tell Ikaika was conglicted. He did not regret running away or he never would have met ikaika or the other awesome people in town. He had asked all the market people to keep his presence a secret. So far they had all kept their word and the few coins he could offer them for their assistance.
He didn't have anything to say. It was all he could do to keep hiding like this, his parents were so all powerful.

Ikaika lifted Kaiko's chin up gently, "Don't worry we will get through this."
He could see the defeat in the other boys' eyes. he couldn't let that stand.
"You will be free just avoid them until you are an adult and during that time, train yourself well."
"Make them not want to challenge you."
