Aukai Oceansoul

Springtime Shapeshifter

Ikaika 1

It was a stormy fall day and there were bucked upon buckets of water streaming down on all sides of their house. Kaiko was doing his best to ignore it with a nose in his book. Ikaika was enjoying the power of the storm and wondering where their daughter was.

Lightning arced overhead followed by the loud boom of thunder.

They had seen storms like this before.

Kaiko 1

It was getting to the best part in the story. The heroin and hero having finally been united after a long and tiresome quest spent in separate caravans. Romance was as ever his guilty pleasure, it reminded him of when he and Ikaika were younger.

He was so immersed in his reading he barely registered the powerful storm outside besides for the lovely ambience it gave.

Ikaika 2

He gazed over at Kaiko adoringly. The male had never left him, was always his consistent companion with those sexy red eyes of his.

Ikaika strode over and ran his hands down the other male's chest, while nuzzling into his ear and neck. "You are too beautiful, did you know that?"

"Have you perhaps considered having more children?" Akea was old enough now to be on her own and Ikaika sorta missed having someone smallish to take care of.

Kaiko 2

"Mmrrppphh?" He made a noise, that turned out to not be a word at all. Ika was distracting him, but what a distraction it was.

"Were you by chance reading my mind oh devoted one?" He tugged playfully on a dreadlock, and tilted his neck over for Ikaika to access better.

"Is it the storm or do you miss having food flung onto the walls by a screaming toddler?"

Truth be told he had been feeling somewhat similar recently. Like their little fledgling was leaving and there should be another egg in their nest.

Ikaika 3

"I'd like to blame it on the storm, but we both know that it is a little more than that."

They were enjoying their time together but eventually they might get well a little lonely.

"Do you want to go on some adventures first or would you be willing to start trying right away?" They had both always wanted more kids but they had put their all into raising Akea.

Kaiko 3

"Hmm, what kind of adventures?" He asked playfully. Was there somewhere his mate wanted to go? Was he getting bored?

There was no warning, suddenly water was spilling in the windows and his precious library of books was ruined. Water continued to poor in. Kaiko stood in a rush and grabbed Ikaika's hand before they wrestled the door open, it took two.

"What is going on?" He yelled out in the storm as they were swept toward the sea with tons of debris. "MY BOOKS!" he howled into the storm that raged overhead.

Ikaika 4

All at once he was ejected into pure melee. He latched a strong hand onto Kaiko's waistband, hell if he was going to let his smaller mate be torn away from him. Kaiko was the most precious thing in his life.

"I got you." He resignedly looked back at the frame of their house as it popped and disentegrated in the wave.

"Its a monster of a flood, on the plus side I can build you a library wing now!" He shouted back. So long as they kept out of the way of the debris field they would be okay.

Kaiko 4

"The house! All of Akea's old things!" Kaiko's heart was breaking. He had loved that small log home, it had been cozy and just enough for three people..now it was gone. One of his cups floated by and Kaiko snatched it and held it to his chest to paddle with the other hand. At least he had something that wasn't broken yet.

He was angry and growling by the time the water deposited them in the ocean.

"Fling flanging storm!"

Ikaika 5

He smirked at the curse word. It was the one Kaiko used around Akea so as to not be so crass.

"We can rebuild, salvage and replace what was lost, I'm just glad that Akea is gone right now. One less person to worry about."

He would do right by Kaiko and build him and even better house.

"Not all is lost." He gave Kaiko a very wet kiss on his forehead and held the other male.

Kaiko 5

He clung to Ikaika like he had never clung to anyone else in his life. This was what it was to be a mate. To have someone who would be there for you no matter what.

He buried his head into Ikaika's broad chest, tracing the menehune's tattoos with his eyes.

He cried until he could not anymore and shuddered to a halt.

Ikaika 6

He held Kaiko close and then swam them to shore, his mate drifting along in his wake.

"We will send word to Akea as soon as we find a place to sleep for the night, I hope the flood didn't wipe out the town too. We are on the outskirts after all.

He was tired and would be hungry very soon. "It is all going to be okay."

Tomorrow they would start cleaning and assessing, today he couldn't bear to look at it.

Kaiko 6

They found an Inn for the night and did their best to forget why they were there.

It worked until the next day when they came back to the house late and started to clean up what they could.

They found a few precious relics of their life but his precious books were basically soup now.

Oh well, an excuse to make a serious visit to the book store.

There was not much of the house that was salvagable and most of it went into the refuse pile.

"Tell me there is a silver lining to this."

Ikaika 7

"Well, we can make the next house bigger, so we can enlarge our family. I'll build you a library and a green house/sun room add on. A bigger kitchen but still a cozy living area, made of similiar wood. The question is do we move in case of another freak flood and if so where would we go?"

Closer or further from town? That would be up to Kaiko, Ikaika trusted his judgement.

Kaiko 7

He thought for a while in the remains of their old house.

"Well there is that waterfall, no one even knows it is there besides us. Might be really cool to have a house there?"

There was enough room certainly and there was less risk of flash flood. They could always move again if they didn't like it.

"Yeah lets rebuild by the waterfall, I can see us watching it on the veranda during coffee."
