It was a regular day at home, except he was for once the only one there. Everybody else had things to do and places to be. Sometimes this was a great thing, the quiet being so different than the regular boistrous noise at the house. Some of the kids were old enough to move out at anytime, he thought Kala might have already found a place he was eyeing but Kaiko was not entirely sure. Well, he might as well read some of his book if this was what it was to be, plus there was an extra chill in the air which oddly was not associated with any storm in particular. It must be a long draft come down from Zena by some sort of windy round about route. Odd that it would reach all the way down here in the tropics but Zena was a force of its own and travelers had reported nasty blizzards.
He was so very glad that they did not have to deal with nasty old blizzards. He was used to the cold, the depths of the sea were after all vary cold as were the currents around his original homelands but just because he was used to it, didn't mean that he had to like it.
A wind pulled at the door and frame of their home. He didn't care. Today was a day for rest and relaxation and he had no where to be. Although he did start the fire to keep the chill off the place. A modest flame should be enough, they usually used it for cooking but he thought it would add to the ambience quite nicely as well.
It was an odd thing, quiet. Sought after and feared. A moment of peace in an otherwise busy and boisterous world. Once he finished a few chapters he toddled out to check on his garden and cover any plants that he thought might benefit from a little protection from the heartless weather that was so uncommon to the area. Some plants were more hardy than others but almost all of them didn't really appreciate a sudden drop in temperature just like the folk around. From the few he saw walk by on the beach they had many more layers than normal and he himself was eager to return to his holding and his book and maybe some hot soup. That sounded good. Maybe after that he would have a nap. There was little else to do once the garden was seen too. He loved the outdoors but it always made him appreciate the indoors more and because he kept up on his chores he could afford some extended time indoors.
He even put a mud mask on his face and then read his book. Oh the height of luxury and leisure. He was so very content. Not a stress in the world except the vague worry about his children wherever they were. They were all old enough now that had faded to a dull throb as well as opposed to when they were small and vulnerable still. His eldest daughter even had daughters of her own and it was anyone's guess as to when she would have more. He supposed this was the fate of parents whose kids had grown up. He felt that now he and Ikaika might just have time to travel and reawaken their love for each other that which had never faded but they had had more family time than alone time and it was starting to become more frequent which was very nice.
He yawned realizing he had nodded off for a bit and washed the mud off of his face. Then he decided to plant a few seeds and start them near ish the fire so that they would stay warm if this odd cold spell lasted longer than anticipated. Not that the cold spell here had been anticipated at all.
There was just something magical about planting a seed and after a few days watching it germinate and grow into a baby plant and every day or few days after that there was something new. A new leaf, the first bud, the first flower the first fruit and the size overall. Sometimes there would be new bugs and pollinators which would attract things such as birds as well. Everything was interconnected, interwoven and he realized on some scale that everything around him was interacting with this cold front in its own individual way.
