Hobbies:
"Time for Doctor Kitty!" – Nicodemus prides himself on being the best possible bedside companion when someone's under the weather. This has a lot to do with his life prior to 'awakening' for the first time. He used to be part of a non-profit program dedicated to bringing kittens and puppies to the hospital as an effort to reduce patients' stress, especially children. Sadly, the program's funding dried up, and a series of unfortunate events left Nico fending for himself on the streets. But he never forgot how good it felt to make a child's day brighter by giving them some nuzzles and licks. So, he started taking to finding little ways he could sneak into the hospital - a neglected door here, a trash chute there - so he could continue his second most important mission in life: helping people feel better! They don't even have to be hospital bound; a crying child on a street corner is just as good. It's gotten him into plenty of trouble, and the hospital staff itself is sort of torn on whether he's a sweetheart or a more persistent pest than any roach. (Nico would say the later clearly just aren't cat people and their opinions shouldn't be trusted, thank you.)
”I ship it.” – Nico is a regular Cupid, if you ask him. If he catches a hint of what he thinks is “chemistry” between two people, he will do anything and everything in his power to try and make them see how completely perfect they are for each other. This includes mystery letters, flowers left in mailboxes from “secret admirers”, missed phone calls to each other, the works. Are they dating someone else? Too bad; seriously, how can these guys not see how perfect they are for each other? If anyone tries to discourage him, Nico can and will just laugh it off and keep right on going with his matchmaking exploits because clearly he knows better – until he finds another pet couple to nurture.
He’s a poet, and he didn’t even know it. – Actually no, he totally did know it. Nico is obsessed with poetry, and more than happy to share his passion with the unsuspecting masses - it usually comes as either a mish-mash of things he’s read or things he’s composed himself. The things he’s come up with have a special place in his heart, and he takes great pride in them. To be honest, they are completely awful; just don’t tell him that. (He’s a sensitive artist you know!) He also gets into moods where he tries to say -everything- in rhyme, which usually last about as long as his word bank and patience hold out. (Unsurprisingly, this annoys a lot more people than it inspires.)
Virtues:
Extroverted – TO THE MAX – In a lot of ways, Nico is a bold cat. He says what he thinks no matter how anyone else might feel. He reads his poetry with pride, even if it’s about the same caliber as an overly dramatic twelve year old (maybe worse). He doesn’t shy away from people, even if he faced some less than kind people after becoming a stray. He does not fear rejection, and if anything it just encourages him to try harder. As a guardian, he does not let his small stature get in the way of standing on the front lines to help defend his senshi to the best of his ability. Who says a lover can’t also be a fighter?
Heart on his Back Sleeve - Nico doesn't do secrets; he's the type of cat where you never have to sit there and guess what he's thinking. When he's sad, he cries. When he's angry, he yells. When he's happy, he's all smiles and laughter. He's hopeless when it comes to lying, and he doesn't like the taste of talking behind someone's back. In short, he means what he says, he says what he means, and feels what he feels. Even if this can be a detriment at times, his open approach and honesty tends to be refreshing in a war where people don't know who they can trust anymore.
Gray skies are gonna clear up...! - If you know Nico, Nico probably loves you. If Nico loves you, then odds are when you're feeling even a little down, he's going to be there with bells on (maybe literally) to come and cheer you up. He can't stand to see people he cares about angry or sad, and he will go to almost any length to try and be there for them to set their world straight again. Of course, sometimes this doesn't work out; some people need space, not an overly ambitious cat fussing over them. Nico doesn't get that; in those cases, he does more harm than good and tends to get his feelings hurt. But it doesn't mean that he'll give up on them.
Flaws:
Impulsive - If you didn't catch on already, sitting down and thinking things through is not Nico's strong point. He does and says things without much, if any, regard for himself or others. He always means well, of course - that doesn't make it any less hurtful, or any less dangerous when it comes to throwing himself into the line of fire. He's a small cat with more experience cuddling than scratching and biting, and let's face it: like many of Nico's good intentions, he tends to do more harm than good when it comes to combat.
Stubborn - Some people say old dogs can't learn new tricks; if they met Nico, they might give the dog another try. No matter how many mistakes he makes, whether it's trusting the wrong person, trying too hard to cheer someone up, or even getting himself hurt, Nico just doesn't learn. If he's put in the same position again, he'll take the same exact approach he did the first time, and he won't understand why people get aggravated with him. Hethinks he's doing the right thing, and so he can't be bothered to change his approach - and good luck trying to talk to him about it. He might be fluffy and sweet, but he's more hard headed than a bull.
Sensitive - At the same time, Nico gets extremely upset when people don't like him or what he does. Say one bad thing about his poetry, and he probably will curl in a ball somewhere and cry. Snap at him, and he'll probably sulk about it for a long time afterwards. Nico's rarely just a "little" sad or a "little" mad - when someone says or does something he finds to be hurtful or offensive, and he will let it completely debilitate him. Even if it doesn't take much to distract him or bring him back from his "dark place", the fact that it can happen anytime, anywhere, at the drop of a hat is more than inconvenient, it's a liability.
*Character Note: Oral Fixation – Nico’s favorite might be chicken nuggets (especially dinosaur nuggets), but he’ll eat just about anything, anytime. Seriously. It doesn’t even have to be food. He’s got some old scars buried under his belly fur from an unfortunate incident involving a ribbon when he was younger. The worst part is, he just doesn’t learn; he’d happily do it again if someone left him to his own devices with a tasty looking ribbon long enough. He’s prone to nibbling bits of dirt, grass, and any little bits of anything that might be left on the carpet – while he’s mid-conversation. He licks tables, gnaws on books, chews on phones and remotes; you name it, he’s been there. He doesn’t even seem to realize he’s doing it most of the time. He might give a little n** if someone tries to get between him and his little ‘snacks’, but he’s easily dissuaded, forgetting about it almost as soon as he starts – and moving right on to the next thing. (Needless to say, he complains about belly aches a lot.) |
