Personality: Jeong-jae is a mischievous guy who loves running around and getting into trouble with his brother Hwan-jae. Playful and clever, he likes to have fun and look for new ways of doing things. Out of the twins, he is the slightly more responsible one and is able to be reasoned with if they're going overboard or there is a safety concern. That said, he still tends to get caught up in his brother's curiosities and will go along with him unless stopped.
Jeong-jae can come across as careless in the way he presents himself. While the twins are friendly for the most part they can also seem a bit closed off at times as well. This does not happen often but when it does, they can be intimidating to approach even if it's unintentional. They are social butterflies that can work their way into most crowds but are often on the move so it is understandable if some characters think them detached at times. They are fairly adaptable around different personalities and have no qualms starting a fun rivalry or teasing people if they figure out their target will tolerate it. Charming in a cute sort of way, Hwan-jae is considered the more refreshing one but Jeong-jae is generally the more observant of the pair.
His main negative trait is that he can be ungodly stubborn at times. Because he's the kind of guy who will read up on things or investigate information when it's relevant to him, he forms opinions on what is best and sticks to them. If you try to persuade or force him to change his mind he becomes a wall and becomes irritable. It is possible to prove him wrong and when faced with evidence he'll back down but still sulk. He also holds grudges when people wrong him or the people he cares about. He is the type to willingly admit he's interested in the gossip if he ever overhears anything and is a very nosy guy when it comes to the personal lives of his friends or public figures.
History: Born to a loving family in the quaint town of Bindau inside Wall Maria, the Ryom family was always a noisy one. With a strong sturdy father who did manual labor around the town with odd jobs and a butcher mother, the family lived in general comfort and rarely had to miss meals. While not exactly middle class they stayed above the poverty line and were able to provide their children with a healthy life. Two twin boys, Jeong-jae and Hwan-jae came first and taught not only their parents but the town the importance of patience. When Yoon-su came along everyone was prepared for her to chase her brothers' backs and that was exactly what she did.
Hwan-jae often spoke of venturing to other cities but it was never an option for the family to relocate. Jeong-jae was curious too but less vocal about it as he could see the strain on their parents whenever it was brought up. He did his best to distract his brother by thinking up crazy things to do in their small town instead. When he had any free time separate from Hwan-jae, Jeong-jae would spend it researching new projects or ideas of what to do next. While not exactly the most book-smart fellow, he did his best to understand what he could and would improvise when it came to the parts that confused him. This technique had mixed results and usually ended up with yet another dangerous tale to share.
When the twins turned seventeen a terrible storm hit Bindau. In the chaos of it all a large tree fell and crushed the Ryom house, killing their parents. Unable to support themselves, the townsfolk took in the orphans at this point and tried to help them recover but it was clear this was only a temporary solution. Jeong-jae managed to convince a farmer to hire him to help in the fields to earn a little money but it wasn't much and it forced Hwan-jae to stay in the village in case Yoon-su needed them during work hours. Struggling to get by, Jeong-jae wracked his brain for a new plan as he toiled out in the blazing sun. Everyday he'd come home to see his once lively and delighted siblings look glum and lost and he couldn't stand it. Things needed to change now or they'd spend the rest of their lives here and lose the spark they'd had. He decided to relocate the family to Trost where Aunt Won-jin supposedly lived. It'd been years since they'd seen her and she mostly communicated with their parents through letters. Following her last addressed letter, they spent their inheritance to immigrate through Wall Rose and headed to Trost with high hopes.
After a month long search it was clear they had no clue where she was and needed to figure out a new plan fast. Won-jin had actually moved to Chlorba since her last letter and simply hadn't notified the family yet. With their savings gone, the boys had to find a way to make money and weren't prepared to go job hunting in the busy city. Jeong-jae's admittedly short experience with farming landed him a part time gig with a farmer in the city but once again it wasn't nearly enough to support the three of them. After another month of working while Hwan-jae checked out their options the two decided to look into joining the military. Yoon-su was too young to join and thus couldn't live in the dorms with them so it was decided to send her to a boarding academy in Trost. Hoping the better education would help her reach a better life they set up a payment plan with the academy and agreed to visit her when they could. Trost is only a day's travel from their new lodgings so it's easy for them to head over when they have time.
Other:He is aware they are difficult to tell apart and tries to wear his tie undone to help people sometimes. Usually he'll start off the day looking perfectly identical and then change it once they've finished their prank/trick or whatnot. Sometimes Hwan-jae will fix it back for further mischief. Jeong-jae claims to be the older twin as well so it's a mystery which one truly is!
Jeong-jae likes learning new things and meeting new people. When he sees something he considers interesting or complex he'll try to check it out and/or ask questions about. He also enjoys sports and games with his brother and likes to compete against others. He's a bit of a foodie as well and can be bribed into doing things if promised more complicated or delicious meals (that he okays). Jeong-jae isn't very good at sewing or small detailed crafts but hopes to make friends with someone who is so they'll fix his clothes that he often tears while goofing around with his brother.
