Trainees may have seen odd-looking flyers plastered around. Taped to the barracks, pinned to the mess hall, littered around the training grounds. Each one is painstakingly written in pretty, flowing, flowery script and decorated with hand-drawn flowers and hearts. ❀PEACE GARDEN❀

Always open, come and go as you please! In a distant corner of the training grounds there's nestled a tiny little garden - if you could even call it that. It's kind of sad-looking, quite honestly, but the intention is obvious even if nothing is growing. The little patch of land is bracketed by a rickety little fence that appears to be nothing more than a few planks of wood wired together. It's got no irrigation, but there's a well about half a mile away, and a handful of buckets piled up just outside the fence. It's obvious that this garden is in need of serious help. A man is nearly always there, hovering around and humming a little tune to himself. All newcomers are greeted in exactly the same way (whether they like it or not). It quickly becomes obvious that this man is Mr. Terry Tuggle. "I know it doesn't look like much, but with a little time, a little love, and a lot of positive thinking, well, I think we'll have a fantastic garden on our hands in no time at all! You're probably saying to yourself, 'Well, Terry, that seems like a lot of work!' - and friend, you would be absolutely correct!! But hard work is soothing to the soul, and brings us closer to our comrades!" Terry looks very passionate. He looks so passionate, in fact, that he might burst into tears at any given moment. "First, we have to work on a fence. That's priority number one!! Once we get the fence built, we can work on clearing the land and tilling the earth!" He pauses and twirls his mustache with a flourish. "We've gathered enough wood, now we've just got to build the fence! Tell your friends!!" Quote: Welcome to the Peace Garden, Stage Three: Painting the Fence!The wood has been gathered, and the fence has been built! Now we need to paint the fence in order to prevent it from rotting away!! •If anything vulgur is painted on the fence, the trainee who is caught (and you will be caught) will no longer be allowed to participate in the Peace Garden, at least until Terry Tuggle decides you have earned that right back.
•Any trainee caught (and... let me repeat, you will be caught) will then be given latrine duty on a very, very permanent basis.
•Any trainee caught (you gonna get caught) will also be taken on as Terry Tuggle's pet project, and they will be seeing a lot more of him whether they want to or not.
Everyone who participates at least once will be entered into a raffle for a dye ticket!

Was this a joke? Blinking at one of the floofy posters at the barracks, Jeong-jae considered the possibility of whether or not someone was about to unleash one of the greatest pranks ever. Curious to find out, he made way to the southern grounds and glanced around to see if anyone else was headed that way as well. What he found when he arrived... he did not expect.
"Are you... Terry?" The man beamed and introduced himself (as according to the first post) and the asian boy wondered if he was dreaming the whole thing or not. What use was a garden going to be? He supposed it'd be nice if it helped their food supply but the military already had a working plan for that. Flowers weren't good for much more than decorations and that was fine for back home but seemed frivolous here. Then again, it could set the scene for a romantic encounter later... or at least be a funny story to share with Hwan-jae. He liked meeting new people and this man was certainly an interesting, and weird, character.
"You know what? I'll do it! Be right back!" And with that Jeong-jae went off to find some wood.

Yesenia tilted her head at the flyer. A garden? What? What's the point in that? She began to walk away, then paused. What if there were lemons? And it wasn't as if she had anything better to do - Amalia was off couriering, and she wasn't invited. She shrugged and began to walk over to the "garden". ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- And a "garden" it was, if you were feeling generous. It was clear that it needed some serious work. Still, though, the prospect of fresh sour food drew her attention. As Terry droned on, Yesenia began to zone out before her attention caught back on. "Wood, got it! Be right back~!" And so she was off to collect wood. Rolling for: 7/29/14 Wood gathered: 7 Hey, old man!" She called out as she approached with an armful of wood. "There gonna be lemons in this garden?"

He'd spotted Jeong-jae trotting on ahead and hurried to finish his duties to catch up to his brother. When he got to the destination though, he was thoroughly confused. Why had they gone to the stupid peace garden thing? Honestly, it looked pretty terrible. But maybe if they helped this weirdo, they'd get a boost in rep and girls would think they were cute or whatever.
"So where's Terry? Wait, you're Terry?" After seeing the posters around the barracks, for some reason he had expected the person behind this effort to be a woman. Hwan-jae tended to assume things like that even if he really ought to have known better. Still, he'd committed to the job now and he would give it a go!
"Don't worry, Tugs, I'll bring back plenty!" Dashing off after his twin, he caught up to him quickly and attacked him with an aggressive hug from behind, hoping to knock him over. Served the guy right going off on his own and not inviting him!

Larisa's dorm room was more or less spotless, with perhaps the exceptions of whatever personal messes her roommates might have made. She'd deliberated over cleaning those, too, but had finally decided that would be a major overstepping of bounds. So it was as clean as she could get it, which should have been a good thing, but what it really meant was that there was nothing else for her to do to de-stress at the moment. Maybe that was why she finally gave in to curiosity to see just how peaceful the Peace Garden might be.
It was...not what she expected. Wincing a little at how terrible the poor little not-quite garden was, she looked around for Terry. That was another dose of unexpected, complete with a helping of alarm that the man might just burst into tears at any moment. Well, she'd wanted some busy work to take her mind off things, right? Maybe this was just what she'd been looking for, after all!
"I see, so we need to build a fence...I'll find as much wood as I can!" As she hurried off, she noticed some other trainees around, but figured she could talk to them after she finished her task if they were still there.

Axel wasn't terribly interested in gardens or gardening or huggles or flowers or whatever the notice was about. He was curious, though, and when he showed up to see what the rest of the trainees were up to he was immediately informed that there were chores to do.
Well, okay. Axel was always up for chores.
At Harry Huggle's orders, or maybe Terry Tuggle's orders (it was hard to keep the name straight in his mind), Axel wandered off to look for wood. He gathered up a mighty armload and trucked it back to the garden, setting it down carefully with the rest of the wood.
Axel picked a splinter out of his palm as he studied the heaps of wood already gathered. His mission was accomplished for the day, though it was clear they were going to need a lot more wood before the fence could be built.

"There will be lemons! Limes! Apples, oranges! All of the flowers you could hope for! Which means we might be lucky enough to see butterflies, or maybe hummingbirds. Fruits, and vegetables, too, fresh from the earth!! What's your name, trainee! You've got... let's see here. Seven pieces of wood? That's not too bad! I'm very proud of you. Don't you love the thrill of accomplishment?! I know I do. Here, take this!" Terry removed one of the flowers from his hair. A pretty white blossom, big and fat and full of petals. Tucking it behind her ear, he gave a loud laugh and twitched his mustache. Quote: Yesenia may now roll 1d20 and 1d10 each day that you roll for her during the wood gathering event of this thread!

Shakuntala didn't know much when it came to the farming aspect of life. Admittedly, she grew up in a life of slight grandeur surrounded by meat and decent cooking (though she still will never be fond of her mother's unique style of dish). But as she headed to the Peace Garden, never before would the girl think herself not jealous of them. Watching others at their backbreaking work made her come to realize some of the training at the encampment weren't as bad in comparison.
Shakuntala listened to the man intently. Obviously, he needed help, and she was sure to lend a hand. She had some reservations about doing so though. A day without Velvet and a ride was like a day without water to quench one's thirst. She decided to let it go (for now) and help this man (for today) and practice her riding in the morning (or later that eve). Bending at the back, she began to gather whatever wood she could find. Any lent hand is a good one, no?

Yesenia's mouth watered from the prospect of fresh lemons. She saluted in what had to be her most perfect form yet at Tuggle. "You got it, sir!" She ran off to collect more wood.

Returning with two armfuls of wood this time, she set them down and went off in search of even more wood. Lemons lemons lemons~

Rennati didn't know what to think when she saw the flyers for Peace Garden other than it sounded nice! What kind of garden was it going to be though? A flower garden or food garden? Either way, she thought it sounded nice. It would be somewhere nice to get away to in her free time. Maybe she needed to go see if she could help!
Once she arrived, she noticed there were already quite a few trainees there helping, but the very emotional Terry Tuggle seemed to really want her help still. So, Ren nodded her head to the excitable man and wandered around looking for some wood. It seemed she was looking where everybody else had already gathered, though, because she could only find one lousy peace of wood. And the only reason she found that was because her foot got stuck in a hole causing her to trip and that's when she saw a small piece hidden under some grass. She looked way more embarrassed as she placed her one piece of wood on the stack than she did about her fall. "I'm gonna go find some more..." she said softly, to no one in particular.

It seemed like they were going to need a lot more wood than what had already been gathered, so Larisa dutifully set out to find more. Hopefully it wouldn't be too hard to find, now that more and more trainees were showing up to help. Maybe she could go further out in her searches to keep from going over the same ground as the others? It was something to consider, at least! Noticing Rennati as she started out, she lifted a hand to wave at her roommate.

"See I waited for you this time." Rolling his eyes as Hwan-jae came into view, the twins were back with more wood. Last time had resulted in Hwan knocking him to the ground with his face colliding with all the damn wood he'd retrieved. Not wanting to suffer that again, Jeong-jae had opted to give his brother an extra five minutes of running late.
"We've brought you some more wood! Say, are we supposed to also be helping with putting the fence up?" Wondering if the project had already been starting, Jeong-jae dropped his latest pile off and wondered if he should be learning how to make a fence.

Rolling for: 7/10/14 Wood gathered: 20 "Maggot, no sassbacks allowed!" Hwan-jae did his best to roar back at his brother with his best Santos impression. It matched well in volume but nothing would measure up to the intimidation factor the bald man had down to an art. The dark haired boy walked by his brother's side and put down an admittingly small amount of wood. He'd gotten distracted on his last run playing with a hunk of it like a practice sword until Jeong had started returning.
"Yeah, do you want us to try and fix up the wired parts?" He managed to hide a grimace after looking at the current state of the 'fence' that Tuggle had started himself. Hwan was no engineer or builder but even the idiot Ryom twins could put together something better than that, right? Probably not but the boy was prideful enough to believe so.

Rennati's meager armload did not go unnoticed by Terry, and before she could slink off to gather more wood, he quietly drew her aside for a small chat. "If you believe in yourself, trainee, there isn't anything that you can't accomplish. When I was a boy, I never thought that I might be in the military! And look at me now!!" He rifled around in the giant man-purse he wore slung over one shoulder. "Here. I want you to have these." 'These' were a pair of brightly-knit kitten-patterned socks. Blue yarn faded to green - and the kittens were bright yellow with little pink beads for eyes. "I made them myself. Don't ever give up!" He gave the trainee a gentle pat on her shoulder before swanning off to mingle with the others. Nilah44 Rennati can now roll 2d20, thanks to the power of friendship and hand-made kitten socks!!!
