At the risk of being berated even more by Baldy, Shun had gone ahead and signed himself up to be a teacher's assistant for 3DMG work. He personally needed more practice with moving around in the gear, and figured this might be a decent way of actually managing that. At least, that was his hope.

The large trees loomed nearby, and several enormous humanoid shadows could be seen deeper within. The course was set and ready. It just needed people to come and run it, now.

While he waited for others to show up, he adjusted his straps and made sure his equipment was in its proper place. The clipboard he had been given was set aside for the time being.

Quite frankly, he didn't think he could really use that right now anyway. His level of literacy was still... really damn low. He'd figure out what to do with that later. Maybe it wasn't really needed either. That'd be nice.

Marching down the path to the area with trees, two twin boys made their way to the shade with pleased expressions on their faces. Today was going to be an exciting day for sure! Jeong had slept rather well last night and felt rested and ready for action! Arriving in front of Shun, he grinned and looked for the equipment to put on.

"We're here for the 3DMG session!" He proclaimed, figuring the TA already knew that but it was good to verify things. Wondering if Shun was a prodigy with the gear, he noticed the guy still had trainee patches on his jacket. Wow that was pretty cool that he could teach a small course like this! Truthfully Jeong wasn't sure if this counted as extra credit or not but he was going to go through with it regardless. He hoped to practice now and be ready for the real class coming up. There were many faces he wanted to impress!

"So, uh, how do you put this on?" First step to success was admitting you didn't know what you were doing right?

Hehe the Ryom twins have arrived! Yama probably won't have time to post for a few hours or until tomorrow so just pretend like Hwan is there too!

It wasn't too long before the first two people arrived. He didn't recall seeing either of them in the actual 3DMG course awhile back, but he did not really think much of it at the time.

"You've come to the right place, then," he quietly answered the one who spoke. He was going to be content with just silently waiting for more people to arrive, but the boy ended up asking him a rather concerning question.

Shun furrowed his brow at this. If he didn't know how to put it on, then he likely didn't have any experience whatsoever with the gear.

With a sigh, he went on and removed his equipment, then demonstrated how to get everything back on.

"Are you certain you want to do this? If you have no experience yet, this will likely be more difficult for you than the others," he pointed out.

Shakuntala looked up to the big a** trees and the glints of sunlight filtering through the canopies. Her maroon eyes were following the cascading of silhouettes through the treetops and their quick descent. She was to be one of them if she could only work up the courage to actually press the trigger on the hand grips, release the grapple, and take to the air. While she had passed the mandatory class, the copper-skinned girl had messed up more than she bargained for, and this truth was a slender thorn in her side. Of course, she never expected to prevail at everything, but it was a little disheartening that most of her friends were good or even great at it and she was left to stare in awe at the sidelines.

She ran a finger down the metallic surface of the gear at her hips and let out a sigh. Okay, she was going to do this. She was going to release the grapple, steady her stance, and not batter herself amongst the branches. She was going to perfect maneuvering with the 3DMG just as she had mastered riding horses. She was going to enter into the corps and earn herself a name in the military and return home just to prove to her mother that she could live without her guidance. Yes, she could do this. Nothing was standing in her way. Nothing was-

Gurk.

Suddenly, Shakuntala felt her tummy hurt. A sloshing dip that caused her to crumble in on herself and groan from her nervousness. She couldn't do this.

Not yet, anyway.

"It'll be fine! I'm good at picking things up quick! And for the rest, that's why you're here to teach, right?" Jeong-jae flashed a thumb's up to Shun. He didn't know the other male very well, having only seen him in passing once or twice, but thought he looked like a quiet and cool guy. This would test his patience and see if he was forgiving or easy to rile up, not that Jeong was trying to piss him off by sucking at this. He was still trying to make friends around the campus and so far hadn't succeeded in adding anyone to Team Ryom. Larisa didn't count because Hwan and him had agreed they'd both worked on her for it and she didn't seem aware she was on the list yet.

"How bad can it be? Ha-" The twin laughed before noticing a figure near the trees fall to the ground and hold herself. Was that Shakuntala?! Worried by her lack of words, his eyes grew wide and he hoped she wasn't hurt. Maybe this really was going to be dangerous! Still he wasn't going to back out now! Especially when someone should go check if she was okay.

"Hey, are you alright?" Leading the others over to her, Jeong crouched beside her and began to look for blood or vomit to see what'd happened. He waited for her to explain before they could take further action to offer first aid if they needed it. Hwan had had first hand experience giving her some earlier in their survival class but it sounded like that'd ended badly so maybe he'd better do it or Shun.

Shun was right to be concerned as the two twins looked over the gear curiously and watched him demonstrate attaching it. It was clear they'd never done or seen this before. But Hwan looked more than enthusiastic to give it a try. He wanted to be ready for the real class, nay, the real Survey Corp and the only way to rise to the top of the class would be to start now. To safely see the vast mysterious world out there, he had to master this gear and truly understand it's every subtlety.

"Difficult is my middle name!" He thumped his chest in a salute of sorts, trying to impress Shun with his cleverness until he realized maybe that had made more sense in his own head than out loud. "Err, I mean, we'll give it 200%. Challenges make us stronger, yeah?" There, that had gone a bit better. He picked up pieces of the gear and began to strap it to himself, trying to follow what Shun had showed them. For the parts he couldn't remember, he snuck a few glances at the TA to determine what went where and eventually managed to get it on correctly after some trial and error.

Jeong heard the girl go down before he did and Hwan watched as his brother darted off to provide aid. It looked to be Shakuntala and immediately he was worried. The girl had give off a vibe of uncertainty when he'd worked with her in Survival Training but physically she'd seemed sturdy and capable. All that horse riding and the typical military training seemed to have modeled her into a fine soldier. So what was she doing on the ground?

The memory of leaning down to kiss her popped up in his mind followed by the flash of pain that had come soon after and he decided to leave her be. He didn't think she'd want him touching her again for a while.

"Maybe we should give them a moment." An awkward laugh escaped him. "So, any tips for a beginner? Bad habits to avoid learning?"

Shakuntala squeezed her eyes hard as she keeled forward, leaning against a tree to keep herself steady. Slowly, she pried one of eyelids open to look upon a face she was familiar with, but had no desire to interact with. She was unsure which twin it was, but to herself, both were equally bad. She was quick to try and wave them from her company, mumbling something about that she was fine and she could handle herself just fine. All lies, of course, but anything to get the maybe-Hwan-maybe-Jeong away from her.

Slowly rising to standing, Shakuntala gave a small stumble, and concentrated her eyes on him. Were the Ryom twins triplets? Because right now, she was seeing three of them. "I... I-I'm just fine," she insisted, dipping her chin several times at his inquiry. Pointing a hand to the gear at her hips, she held up the hand grip next, and added, "J-just going for some p-practice- Gurk."

Her nervousness bubbled up again. Swallowing thickly, Shakuntala repressed her desire to throw-up. There's nothing to get upset over, Shakuntala! she rebuked herself mentally. Use of the 3DMG isn't as scary as you make it to be!

Seeing Shakuntala arriving, Shun soon furrowed his brow as she did not look all too well at all. He tilted his head slowly, watching her. One of the twins went to go see if she was alright, and he let him handle her while he turned his attention to the other. For the moment, he quirked his brow at the boy's response.

"...Right."

He watched Jeong work on getting his gear on, then gave a quick inspection to make sure everything was in place. Having the gear set improperly would likely be incredibly dangerous.

"Don't try to fight your momentum. Work with it," he advised. He wasn't really sure how else to explain it, especially to someone who hadn't done any of this before.

"Once Shakuntala recovers, we'll get started with the practice."

It was painful to see someone in such a state and he wondered why she was doing this to herself. Glancing back over to Shun, Jeong debated on calling the man over for help but decided to give Shakuntala a few more minutes before they took her to the nurse for the day. Maybe it was just nerves getting the better of her and it'd pass once she calmed down. If she allowed herself to calm down, that is. Moving into action, he reached forth and gently grabbed her to hold her steady. It would be dangerous for her to try flying through the air in her current condition if she was having to hold onto trees to stay upright.

"Tala, let's sit for a minute and breathe, okay?" Easing her to sit back down on the ground, Jeong took a seat in the grass beside her. He wasn't sure if his company would help or not but by making it a shared thing he hoped she wouldn't feel embarrassed about needing this extra time. Taking in a deep breath for her to copy, he rubbed her back lightly, a motion he used to do to comfort Yoon Su. It seemed a natural inclination of his and by the time he'd realized he was doing it, Jeong felt too awkward to suddenly stop.

"We'll practice in a second. After we stretch!" It occurred to Jeong-jae that things were going to only get harder from this point in their military career. Survival class had been an easy start but there were other skills, much more difficult ones, that he had yet to learn. Mastering these skills would require lots of extra practice, especially if they did not come naturally to you. He needed to be careful about respecting people's pride when they were feeling low like this, clutching their mouth and hiding their fears. He came up with the excuse of stretching to help stall for a little more time for Shakuntala to calm down without outright stating that she must be feeling weak. They wouldn't have the luxury to stretch when out beyond the walls but that didn't matter right now.

"I haven't actually tried this yet. Is it sort of like reins?" The gear sat on his hips and the triggers were honestly more gun like but in theory (at least to him) the pair of ropes to control sat in both hands like reins. Swinging through the trees was nothing like horseback riding but maybe by bringing up horses, Shakuntala would get her mind to settle onto a topic she was more comfortable with again. Their conversation at the peace garden had told him she was really only here for horses so it was obviously her life passion. Giving her a relaxed smile, he slowly lowered his hand from her back and let it rest behind her on the ground, letting him lean to help support her body if she fell backwards or needed it. Having a had a partner through all of his life, Jeong knew how important it was to lean on friends when things were bad.

He made no move to start stretching until she was ready.

Larisa careened down the path towards the trees, slowing to a sudden stop only once she'd reached Shun and Hwan. She paused a moment to catch her breath, making it more than obvious that she'd run full speed all the way there, and then straightened to glance everyone over with a frantic air. There were the twins and Tala- she frowned a moment, concerned, but one of the twins seemed to be looking after her. Which just left Shun. She didn't know this trainee, but...he had a clipboard! She took an eager step towards him. "Is this the class for the 3d maneuver gear? Are beginners allowed? Because I haven't been able to take the full course yet, but I saw the notice about this one and um."

She paused again, eyes flicking out to the treetops and then to Hwan as he pulled on pieces of gear, and when she looked back to the TA there might as well have been stars in her eyes for all the hope in the look. "Please, I want to learn too!"

Another beginner had arrived. This session may be rougher than he expected. Letting out a sigh, Shun nodded slowly. The infirmary may get a little busy once they were finished for the day.

"If you're willing to risk it and face the challenge...very well. I am not liable for any injuries you receive in practice, however," he stated, putting that out there right now.

Shakuntala put up no qualms this time. Her head was spinning a mile a minute and any guidance out of her current state was better than none. Despite her reluctance to being touched in such a familiar manner, she ignored her uncertainty, and settled down to the base of the tree with Jeong-jae by her side. She rested her chin on the crest of her knee and took a huffy breath that came out more like a pant than a soothing attempt of getting air in her lungs.

Turning glossy eyes towards the black-haired male, she mimicked his slow rhythm of breathing; the air sailing in and out of her lungs with each expansion of her chest. She jumped a bit at the sudden hand on her back making circles against her jacket, but did not attempt to nudge it away. Much to her chagrin, it was actually soothing, despite the hand belonging to, in her opinion, a not-so trustworthy body. Her opinion of the twins (whichever one it was) was slowly altering itself a bit when he didn't try anything funny on her. Just giving her time to relax is all she ever asked for.

She raised her head an inch and nodded it. "S-stretches... Stretches sound good," she replied to him. She didn't rise to the occasion yet, however. The copper-skinned girl remained in her curled-up pose and simply continued to breath, remembering that she had no one to prove her skills to and that, again, the 3DMG wasn't going to kill her. It took a bit of persuasion from her. Switching to the topic of horses was definitely a wise move in this case.

Shaking her head at Jeong, Shakuntala muttered, "Nn-nothing like it." There was truth in her words because, to her, it was much, much more worse. Riding a horse was a steady talent with the participant grounded to the earth. Of course, falling of a mare or stallion was a painful accident considering their height, but the riding itself was a pain one situated themselves to with constant practice. The gear was much different; all senses had to open, awake, and alert. One false move could batter a person terribly or, under the worst conditions, die. This caused Shakuntala to shiver as she tried to describe it. "It... I-it's like flying," was the best way to put the feeling in words. "Y-you feel free, but at the same time, y-you're, um, you have to stay s-safe..."

After getting her worries out a bit, that's when Shakuntala felt she was good enough to stand. She didn't stumble this time, but she did rise at a snail's pace. The gear made a metallic clatter as she was standing straight. Looking to Jeong-jae, she said, "A, um, a f-few stretches and then we c-can, um, start."

Blonde loops bobbed into view and instantly Hwan's day brightened. He'd taken to Larisa well and considered the cheerful girl a good friend and fun person to be around. She reminded him a little of Yoon-su though she was much older and more responsible. The tree-climber had the same charismatic aura and kind eyes though. Somehow it was hard not to smile when Larisa was around.

Worried eyes watched as his brother gently guided Shakuntala to the ground where the two sat for a while. What was wrong? Was she ill? He hated to admit it but he had developed a bit of a soft spot for the shy girl after working together in class and hated to see her like this, seemingly struggling to breath and stay on her feet. She rose as if in slow motion and he could see Jeong watching over her patiently and he knew the other boy was better at comforting and gahhh but he couldn't shake the feeling something was wrong.

"I'm going to check on them." He gave Larisa and Shun a polite nod before walking towards the trees where the two talked quietly. Jeong rose after Shakuntala and began to stretch out his limbs slowly like a cat just waking up. He met his brother's eyes questioningly to silently ask if things were under control or not. Picking up on the new activity, Hwan joined in the same poses once he was close enough to talk to them.

"Good morning, Tala! Did you visit the horses this morning?" He didn't know a thing about her daily schedule but there was one topic that the timid girl always lit up over. "After some training here, maybe we could head there together and practice some riding." Giving the girl something positive to look forward to might help propel her through the crumminess of the 3DMG class. He swallowed tensely before speaking again, wondering if this had been what was bothering her.

"Sorry about what happened in Survival. I was a jerk." He bowed his head to her in apology, nervous that the trauma of him being there after moving too fast on her was causing her to panic and back out of the class. He honestly hadn't meant to scar the girl and somewhat doubted it was the problem but wanted to cover that base just in case. Shakuntala was a nice girl and he kind of regretted screwing that up. He'd been kind of selfish.

"If it's me, I can give you some space and come back another time." A faint embarrassed emotional flush painted his cheeks at the memory of his obnoxious behavior. Hwan liked to have fun but recognized that he could get out of control sometimes. Hopefully it wasn't too late to repair the damage, he really did like her.

"Flying..." Jeong glanced at Shakuntala's profile as she looked uncomfortable at the mere thought of the gear. She appeared to be calming down but still struggling to be ready for the class. He understood what she was trying to say about the difference but was surprised by her choice of words as well. Surely she felt like flying on the back of a horse as well? The type of freedom was likely different but the rush and momentum was something she indirectly controlled. Jeong wouldn't argue that both types of traveling were similar beyond that. They both rose to their feet to begin stretching and Hwan came over.

"If you need us to leave, we can come back another time." The twin waited to let his brother finish what he'd come over to say and then added on in agreement. He didn't think Shakuntala would ask them to head out but it was good to offer, he felt. He hadn't done anything to upset her (to his knowledge) but he did share a face with Hwan and if she still held the incident against him... The two shared in their triumphs and mistakes together, thanks to the things that bonded them.

"Or we scouts can stick together and help each other out." He'd learned her ambition from the chatting at the Peace Garden and felt like she would need all the support she could get. There were still many questions about her past, concerning what she'd said that one night at dinner, and he knew she needed some positive encouragement. Once they left these walls, they'd be in charge of protecting each other and he'd only be able to do that if everyone had the confidence to believe in themselves and trust to be able to rely on each other.

Shun raised his brow as he heard Jeong mention scouts. So it seemed that the twins were planning on joining the legion as well, unless he was misunderstanding that. He went ahead and started to explain what the plan was for today.

"I'll let you recover a little while longer, but I'll go over today's tasks. We'll begin with a few warm up laps through the trees," he started before holding up the triggers on the blades, "..For the beginners, you shoot out the wires with these."

A part of him still wondered if he should be allowing the beginners in here. Hm. Oh well.

"Three laps to get us started. And do try to go around the trees, not into them," he added flatly.
