Time of Legend - Malie is utterly fascinated with the old legends and myths of the world. Most particularly those civilizations that didn't know the White Man until the 1400s or so. It doesn't matter if it is a story about the ancient gods or the ancient times equivalent of Bloody Mary. If it is an old story, Malie will eat it up.
One of Nature's Percussionists - For some people, drumming is an art form. Malie is one of those people. She's been drumming since she was tiny and she adores keeping the beat for dancers using her own Hawaiian drums. Which is not to say that she won't try other percussion instruments. She's currently debating learning to beat the bodrhan. And after that, maybe she'll find a class that will teach her the proper way to beat the tom toms. And if there is no drum in sight and Malie's been sitting long enough, pencils and pens quickly become drum sticks and any available flat surfaces becomes her drum.
Soap Making - Malie was introduced to the fine art of making soap at home by a lovely lady who was a vendor for the stuff at a local Renaissance Festival. Ieni was only about 10 at the time, but the knowledge that people could do that fascinated her. After a rushed lesson in what she would need and what to do, Ieni sweet-talked her parents into driving her to the local craft supply store and funding her first efforts. In the five years since, Ieni has gotten good at mixing glycerin soap-base, scents, dyes and other additives together. Every week she makes a new batch, often saving the results to give away as presents or to simply give the bathroom a little decorative zing. It's fun, it's relaxing and it's something she can do without a grownup hovering over her.
Virtues:
Cool Logic - Very little ruffles Ieni's feathers. And it is nigh impossible to pull her into a heated argument. No, Ieni prefers the path of logic and reason over emotion. And she refuses to let emotion cloud her logic. She will keep herself apart, quietly observing and weighing all the information before she'll hazard an opinion. So far, it's kept her on an even keel in the world of school politics.
Nurturing Heart - In spite of personal circumstances, Ieni has a big heart and heaps of loving compassion to share. And the greater part of that love is given directly to children her own age or younger. She will rarely form a nurturing bond with an older kid or adult, but in this case, it is usually due said older person have development issues that makes them more childlike (and in her mind, making them harmless). Adults can't be completely trusted to watch out for kids (or childlike adults), so Ieni's taken it upon herself to do the watching. In the case of children, she keeps an eye on them to make sure no odd bruises or behaviors go unquestioned. And in the case of the occasional adult or big kid, Ieni simply gives them the attention and love that they don't often get from their own families. If Destiny City was Neverland, Ieni would be Wendy. She's got a lot of love to share and so many people need a little mothering.
Calmly Capable - In spite of her youth, Ieni seems to posses an inborn knack for knowing just what to do when things go pear-shaped. Once, when she was in the car with her adoptive parents, she was witness to a terrible car crash. As her parents pulled over and stood by dazedly, trying to figure out what to do, Ieni opened the trunk, found the emergency flares and promptly began to light them and set them out around the overturned vehicle. If she sees someone hurt in the schoolyard, she will check on them and make sure help is sent for. Of course, there are times when she simply has no idea how to help. For those times, she will unerringly go find the nearest, (mostly) trustworthy adult and make sure they are aware of the situation.
Flaws:
Bottle it Up - Sometimes, one of the side effects of being so seemingly calm and quiet on the outside if that the inside is a roiling mess of turmoil. Ieni is a long time master in the art of bottling up any and all negative emotions. Sometimes, not even beating furiously on her drums can release the pent up anger and frustration of the day. Ieni just keeps bottling it up and clamping it down to the point where she reaches the implosion/explosion point. And once she reaches that point, every little thing grates on her nerves. She becomes twitchy, irritable and prone to barking out her words. And if this continues, well.... her last explosion involved her parents being called to the school to help the playground attendant pry Ieni's hands and teeth from kid who hadn't heeded her warning to leave her alone and go away.
Subverted Humility - Before she was given to stateside relatives to raise, Ieni spent the first eight years of her life being subjected to daily emotional and psychological abuse at the hands of the spoiled and bitter woman that was her biological mother. As a result of this, what would have been, in a normal child, simple modesty has become self degradation elevated to a near art form. Ieni is simply not good enough either in her eyes or as she supposes in the eyes of the world. Yes, of course she has skills. Even a monkey can be taught skills. And some days, Ieni feels herself envying that monkey its talent and ability. As a result, she's gained something of a reputation for being ungracious and ungrateful when confronted by praise or compliments. Her continued protests that anyone and everyone can and will do something better than her has also started to gain her a reputation of being a bit of an emo or a drama llama amongst her peers. Who wants to hang out with someone who constantly beats themselves up, after all?
Stunted Trust - Chances are, no matter how close you are to Ieni, she is never, ever going to fully trust you. Being abused by your own mother tends to do that. Especially when it takes so long before someone sees the abuse and moves in to help. Ieni will show you care and love and friendship, but there is always going to be the moment of wincing away if you go to hug her. That pause and wild animal stare as she tries to decide whether or not you're going to hurt her too. Please don't take it personally, Ieni simply doesn't trust anyone.
PHYSICAL DESCRIPTION
Eyes: BRIGHT Pinkish-Purple
Hair: Waist length, straight coffee-n-cream colored hair with aquamarine/turquoise streaks, usually worn in a low side ponytail with a cute flower barrette (just not that red color) hiding the band.
Face: Skin a tiny bit darker than her hair, dark freckles smattering across the nose (and possibly other body parts), oval shaped face, full lips, average ears. Typically wears a very faint pink lip gloss.
Clothes: N/A - School Uniform for Meadowview. She does wear a white puuka shell choker and small brightly colored earrings (two on each ear). When not in school, she prefers casual, comfy clothes. Senshi: Sailor Namaka, Super Senshi of Sharks
Challenge: You're gonna need a bigger boat!
Attacks:
Sailor Scout Attack: Dentricle Dam
This attack can be cast twice times per battle and last for approximately 15 seconds. The radius is confined strictly to Namaka as it gives her skin a magical overlay that resembles the tooth-like roughness of a shark's skin. Great for close, hand-to-hand combat. Terrible for anything long range. Effects would be like having sandpaper punched or kicked into one's body and scraped against the skin. Somewhat painful, but not debilitating.
Super Sailor Scout Attack: Frenzied Jaws
This attack can be cast a maximum of once per battle and lasts 20 seconds. The radius spreads out a bit more to encompass Namaka and one opponent (about 3-5'). As before, Namaka is covered in a magical overlay similar to shark's skin. However, this time the overlay is accompanied by the sensation of ghostly shark bodies knocking into Namaka and her opponent. Effects are the same as above in regards to Namaka's dentricle "skin" however, mild bruising is now possible due to the ghostly sharks.
Eternal Sailor Attack: Breaching Jaws
Namaka can cast this once per battle and it lasts for approximately 30 seconds. Radius is again 3-5' and encompasses Namaka and her target. However, unlike the above attack, she cannot move once it is cast and she must be within arms reach of the target, preferably holding them somehow. Once cast, the target becomes the subject of an energy attack from below their feet that resembles a Great White shark's breaching attack. The target is knocked off of their feet, shaken, battered and "bitten". Mild cuts and mild to moderate bruising are common.
