As she felt an Order aura far too close for comfort, Namaka sighed. This is what I get for being cocky and leaving through the damned entrance gates instead of a mirror, she thought. Still, as she headed away from the aquarium gates, she had to admit that something like this would have happened sooner or later.

At least the aura itself didn't feel insanely strong, so there was a decent chance that if she had to fight, she wouldn't have her a** completely handed to her.

And if this person decided to lecture and judge, Namaka wouldn't just passively take the abuse. Not again and not when she knew she'd been doing absolutely nothing wrong.

Keiko couldn’t deny that she was starting to really enjoy this whole…magic thing. Honestly, she didn’t know why she had bothered to ignore it for so long when it was so utterly fun to jump around and do crazy feats that could obviously never come true in real life.

She felt something different and paused, going still for a moment. Hadn’t that been what the other senshi had said? Feeling things?

Suddenly, Keiko wanted to know just who she was feeling. Wanted to befriend whoever it was. Wanted to figure out why whoever it was felt…felt different than Miyamoto did.

With a laugh, the senshi leapt off of the building she had been standing on, and executed a fantastic midair somersault, landing with her hands up in front of a very pretty girl in a dark outfit. “Ta-da! I hope that you’re proud of me, I not only didn’t crash into you, but I knew that you were there! I’m Keiko!”

She looked so utterly pleased with herself, holding a hand out, eager to meet this other magical individual.

It was all that Namaka could do to not screech in shock as a strange senshi suddenly somersaulted out of nowhere to land with a gymnast's grace right in front of her. Blanching, her hand went up to her chest as if to try and calm her now racing heart. Where on earth did the White Moon find so many crazy girls?

Don't judge, babe. You're trying to find a way to be one of those haole...

And the girl, Keiko? looked so happy with herself to boot. Since she wasn't at all sure that she was safe yet, she tried to think of something to say and finally fell back on a slightly wobbly, "Umm... yay?"

It wasn't the wittiest thing to say, or probably the most enthusiastic, but Namaka felt the universe owed her a pass on this one given how badly she'd had her wits startled out of her.

Maybe she should try again, just to be polite.

"Err... c-congratulations?"

Oh goddammit.

Keiko grinned and looked utterly and completely proud of herself. “How come your outfit looks so much cooler than mine does…I mean, not temperature wise, but it looks a hell of a lot cooler temperature than the last senshi I met.” She looked over the girls’ outfit again. “So…what’s your name? What are you the senshi of? Why are you in darker colors? Where can I sign up for darker colors?”

She knew she was asking far too many questions far too quickly, but she felt so…excited. “I’m…actually really proud of myself that I could feel you. The last guy…he made it such a big deal because I didn’t feel him and I felt kind of stupid but…” Keiko shrugged. “What can you do, right?”

The other senshi looked to be about her age and she hesitated. “…Have you been doing this long? Can you give me any tips on how to be better, do you think? I won’t lie…the cat that got me into this, I…I mean I listened and all but…” She shrugged. “I kind of just…didn’t bother actually doing anything for the longest time…but then it got hot, and I discovered the joys of jumping around like some crazy super hero.”

The cheerful onslaught of questioning interspersed with random observations was quickly becoming too much. Namaka, in spite of the steps she'd taken to be more outgoing and less, well, wild animal shy was now in the middle of her own sort of personal hell. And she couldn't say anything because Keiko just seemed so damned happy.

Still, in spite of how close her was to total shut down from overload, one thing pierced the panic. Jerking her head back as if she'd been slapped, the senshi of sharks stared at the girl as if she'd sprouted a third arm before hissing, "Are you ******** crazy? You don't ever want to sign up for darker colors! Don't you know anything?"

She struggled with her own admittedly limited understanding of how the other side worked. Wait, didn't Keiko mentioned a cat? Cats had something to do with senshi popping up. Searching her memory for any scraps of information, she thought that she'd heard that these cats were supposed to explain how things worked.

Clearly that was not the case. Or whichever cat Keiko had dealt with had been phenomenally stupid.

"Did this cat of yours tell you anything? Didn't they warn you? ******** sake, this other senshi should have warned you..."

Feeling horrified all while soaking in the sheer ridiculousness of a purportedly evil senshi teaching a white moon how to be safe managed to keep Namaka from completely dissociating. And here was this poor senshi so happy and proud that she'd sensed an aura. It was all too damn much.

Holding up a hand even as she closed her eyes to give herself a moment to regroup mentally, she answered what she could automatically.

"Namaka. Sharks. It is good to take pride in accomplishments. Please do not tell me who this other senshi you met was because right now, I'm afraid that I would try to slap the smile off his face if I ever met him for doing you such a ******** disservice."

Deep breaths. She could do this. She could be helpfu. This would help prove that she could be just a heroic as Corvus and her own suspected sister.

"Please do not take this the wrong way. I am not good with people and you're... kind of an overwhelming lot right now. Sensing auras is not a toy or a game. It can help keep you safe. If the other senshi you met wore mostly white, you need to consider how he felt compared to me. Any senshi in dark colors like me are bound to Chaos. This does not make us all bad. Some are worse than bad. But you need to be careful. Or you will end up very dead or worse. So, you asked what can you do, yes? You can learn and be smart and careful."

And here was the part where Namaka wanted to turn and run away, but she forced herself to keep on, silently pleased that her voice only cracked a little.

"Can you fight? Do you have an idea how to protect yourself? Trust me, it's going to be very important the longer you are out as a senshi. You seem like a very nice person and you are one of the few from your side who hasn't attacked me on sight. So, I would like to make sure you survive this crazyass s**t."

Keiko paused and gave a sheepish smile. “Ah, I’m sorry…Namaka? I didn’t mean to overwhelm you. It’s just…kind of fun to talk about things, you know?” She bit her lip after a moment and shrugged. “Ah. Not really. I have magic, the cat told me that much. I haven’t gotten a chance to use it or anything, and he talked about…you know, enemies and what not but…”

The senshi shrugged. “I haven’t met anyone that seems like an enemy. What about you? Can you fight? Are you strong? Have you been doing this for a while?”

She paused and took a step back, drawing in what she hoped was a deep, calming breath. “I’m sorry, I’m getting excited again…but sharks? What a cool thing to have for a power!” Keiko was earnest with her words, and her pale eyes sparkled with curiosity. “Do you have tips on keeping yourself safe? Protecting yourself?”

Smiling a little wanly, Namaka listened carefully and wasn't sure which feeling was the stronger. Despair over how little Keiko had been told or complete rage at how little Keiko had been told. Granted, she was a s**t fighter and had done her best to not become engaged in fights. But she had still fought. She had used her magic offensively. And right now, she was the best chance Keiko had at surviving another night.

Terrifying thought.

"Thank you," she murmured. "I try very hard, but sometimes I freeze up. I promise I am not being intentionally rude. So, first tip. Not every enemy will appear as what they really are. A lot of Negaverse officers can be very charming and sweet, but they are rotten straight through. You can be polite and even friendly, but don't greet everyone you meet as a long lost friend. Oh, and please stand like this?" she said, showing Keiko a stance that allowed her to keep her center of gravity balanced. She didn't like what she felt she had to do, but if she gave too much warning, she was afraid that Keiko wouldn't take it as seriously as she should.

"I'm... strong enough I suppose. There are others in the Court who are much stronger than me. Ah, sorry. I am a Dark Mirror senshi. It sounds cooler than it really is. I can walk through mirrors to places I am familiar with and I can summon wraiths to steal energy. I do not like to do that, though and when I have to I try to find someone awful who deserves to have a little energy siphoned away. And I never kill. Others do, have and will though."

For a moment, Namaka wished she knew more about the Negaverse senshi. But at least she knew they had holes in them that weren't natural. She would have to thank Oort sometime for teaching her that much.

"The Negaverse has senshi as well. As far as I know everyone calls them corrupt. And they're very easy to spot. Their auras feel wrong and they have what look like cracked holes here," she pressed her fingertip against Keiko's forehead. "and here," she concluded, pointing to her chest. "And the negaverse officers can summon weapons to fight with. Please trust me that you do not want to meet them. I do not recommend someone trying their best to murder you with a utter knife just for the crime of existing."

She didn't really want to admit that it had been years since she'd joined the Court, so she glossed over that. It was easier to smile and preen a tiny bit over her sphere of influence. Sharks were pretty cool.

"As far as protecting myself, I try my best to not get close enough to be grabbed. My magic right now makes that kind of impractical though. And if you're fighting a stronger officer, they know how to teleport, so it is good to be quick on your feet. And always, always keep in mind where you want your punches to land. Dentricle Dam!"

Even as she called up her magic, she was closing the distance and swinging with he fist for the other senshi. Thought she was deliberately aiming for Keiko's shoulder and pulling her punch hard. She didn't want to hurt the other girl after all. She just wanted to startle her into defending herself. It was, after all, the quickest and easiest way to teach.

Quote:
Sailor Scout Attack: Dentricle Dam
This attack can be cast twice times per battle and last for approximately 15 seconds. The radius is confined strictly to Namaka as it gives her skin a magical overlay that resembles the tooth-like roughness of a shark's skin. Great for close, hand-to-hand combat. Terrible for anything long range. Effects would be like having sandpaper punched or kicked into one's body and scraped against the skin. Somewhat painful, but not debilitating.

She felt a rush of affection from this other senshi…Dark Mirror Senshi? She wasn’t completely sure what that meant, but still. Namaka was very nice, so it honestly didn’t really matter in Keiko’s mind.

Taking the stance was easy enough, and the senshi continued to listen, nodding every few seconds as she tried to take in everything that her new friend was saying. “…So, pretty much…stay away from these Negaverse people, huh? I…a butter knife though? That…doesn’t sound completely scary. But weapons themselves…that doesn’t sound…great at all.”

Keiko found herself getting lost in thought as she began fretting about these Negaverse people and the idea of being attacked with weapons…just for existing? It sounded mad.

Namaka was saying something else though, and as Keiko tried to pull herself back to full attention, she saw that the other girl…was…attacking her.
“Wait! Wait, what?” The punch collided with her shoulder…and it felt…strange. Like Namaka could really use some lotion. “I thought we were going to be friends what…” Oh. No. She was being taught how to defend herself. Taught that…even people who were friendly could be…well.

Not.

“Freeze!”

Keiko drew in a deep breath, using her magic for the first time and blowing a torrent of cold at the other senshi. “I can defend myself too! You’ll see.”

DaisyMilk
Keiko draws in a deep breath after saying the name of her attack and blows it out, towards an opponent. The breath comes out a pale, icy blue and can travel as far as five feet away, in a cone that is five feet wide. The attack can only effect one person, and that person will feel a sharp, bitter cold as though they have been outside in sub freezing temperatures for a little too long. Once struck by the cold breath, the feeling of freezing lasts for thirty seconds.
This attack can be used twice per battle.

For a moment, the dismay in Keiko's eyes made Namaka want to curl up into a ball and apologize for eternity. She'd gone too far and now the other senshi hated her and everything was ruined forever. And for the briefest moment, she was convinced that Keiko was too shocked to try anything back.

And then.

Stumbling back and feeling as if she'd been dunked in a snowbank in her skivvies, Namaka shivered and heard her teeth chattering.Holy gods and she'd been afraid Keiko would be defenseless....

It felt like ages until warmth came back into her limbs. Rubbing her arms a little, Namaka glanced over at Keiko and began to laugh in tired delight.

"Holy ******** hell," she said between bursts of laughter, "And you thought sharks was cool? Girl, my magical sharkskin is nothing compared to what you can do. And you don't even have to be super close for it to be effective do you? Jesus."

Sitting abruptly, she hid her face behind her hands for a moment, afraid that laughter would turn into hysterical tears given all the emotions racing through her at the moment. Okay. So. Keiko wasn't helpless, but she was awfully trusting. And she had enormous potential to be power. Therefore, neither the Court nor the Negaverse could ever get their hands on her.

"You can, indeed, defend yourself and I'm grateful, though I'm sorry for testing you like that, but I had to make sure. So many senshi seem so vulnerable and you're so friendly. You'd be such an easy target for someone who wanted to corrupt you and all they'd have to do is catch you and I wouldn't be able to sleep worrying about you. Forcible corruption is... not at all fun from the little I've been told. I don't think you'd enjoy it."

She was rambling. Pulling her hands from her face, she made herself look Keiko in the eyes.

"It's okay if you hate me now," she said. "But I had to make sure you weren't totally helpless. As long as they can't grab you, I think you have a good chance of walking away from bad encounters. You'll keep your starseed, all right."

That last was delivered with an odd sort of tired pride.

"If you were of the Court, I'd say let's go get a drink now and we could power down and toddle off, but since you're not, we'll have to improvise. I know an ice cream shop that doesn't give a damn about what the patrons wear as long as the money is good and I always carry a bit of cash on me when I'm like this. So," she said, standing up and stretching, "you in?"

Keiko grinned, looking pleased with herself and nodded. “So…I’m glad that the magic works, and I odn’t hate you at all!” She hesitated and reached out, taking Namaka’s hands in her own. “…I want to be friends, so yeah of course I’m in for ice cream!” She felt warm inside, and it had nothing…or at least little to do with the temperature of the evening.

“…I’m glad that we got to meet. And I hope that we can be friends for real one day, I think that would be fun.”

Plus…it would be so good to have someone who could help her learn the ropes of just what was going on.

She would keep going towards auras that she felt in the night…it had been a very good plan this time.
