/It wouldn’t be a star festival without a meteor shower! Right on time, a beautiful array of shooting stars graces the night sky. Most meteor fragments appear to be little white or yellow lights streaming across the sky, but if you watch closely enough you may find that some of them seem to be pink, blue, and even purple in color. The scientists have reported that it’s just different components burning up as they enter the atmosphere, but there’s something undeniably magical about it.

Bundled into her favorite lightweight hoodie and striped kneesocks, Ieni sat perched on the highest point of the roof of her home that could be safely got to. Beside her, on a worn and frayed towel, lay a little radio set to the news channel that had promised to cover the meteor showers. Laying back, she rested her head against her crossed arms. The night sky was so beautiful and this would be the first year she’d watched the meteors by herself. Her parents had left for the week to visit family and left Ieni in glorious solitude.

She thought it said a great deal for her personal growth that she was able to be alone without freaking the ******** out. She still had trouble getting out and peopling, but it was getting better bit by bit.

And why she was thinking about that when she had meteors to admire was beyond her. Sternly wrenching her mind from gloomy paths, she re-focused on the stars above and let out a happy squeal as a pale yellow streak split the sky for a moment. It was starting! Turning quickly, she clicked on the radio and grinned as the newsanchor on duty began to speak. He was very good, she thought. He explained what was happening in easy to understand words for the idiots at home. THough her eyebrow shot up a little when he mentioned pink and purple meteors being spotted. That wasn’t normal, was it? Of course, he had a perfectly sound scientific explanation, but something in her soul rebelled. She knew very well that magic was a real thing. Therefore, she’d look at the appearance of funky colors as a magic thing.

Throwing herself back, she cheered as more streaks began to fill the sky. Soon enough the sky was thick with streaking meteors and she got to see firsthand those oddly colored meteors. Yes, she thought in delight, this is magic. As the shower went on, she saw blue, pink and purple mixing in with the classic white and yellow. She’d given up on listening to the news or even caring whether or not the neighbors could hear her crows of sheer happiness.

After a few moments, a thought struck her and she dug into her pocket for her phone and turned on the camera. Holding it above her head with both hands, she filmed the shower, ignoring how tired her arms got as time passed. She was going to keep filming this until it was over or her arms fell off. Maybe she’d upload it later and email a copy to her dad. She thought he might enjoy that.

As the shower continued, she noticed that the meteors began to thin out, gradually vanishing much like how they’d appeared. Well, that was all right. She had a fairly decent length video to remember it by. As the meteors stopped one by one, Ieni yawned and tucked her phone away. She’d upload in the morning and email her parents.
